2. Who Are They?
Alexisonfire (pronounced "Alexis on fire") was a five-piece, Juno-winning post-hardcore band that
formed in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada[2] in 2001. The band consisted of George Pettit (vocals),
Dallas Green (guitar, piano, vocals), Wade MacNeil (guitar, backing vocals), Chris Steele (bass
guitar), and Jordan Hastings (drums, percussion).
They describe their music as "the sound of two Catholic high-school girls in mid-knife-fight" (a
reference to their song "A Dagger Through the Heart of St. Angeles", also the inspiration for their
debut album cover art). When the band came out of the underground like an "utterly captivating caraccident-in-progress" in late 2001, it was enough to impress critics as well as earning their self-titled
debut album a gold certification in Canada. (Wikipedia)
3. Their Rise to Fame
Alexisonfire grew into what they are
today because of their ability to use
social media. Recognizing that it was in
fact the fans which gave them
everything they have. In the Early days,
most of what they were was an online
sensation through the site Myspace
which grew their fan base beyond the
Niagara region and across Ontario
Even after they became a
nationwide hit, Alexisonfire
continued to grow and this
reflected in their online
activities with the creation of a
website that was uniquely
theirs…
4. Simply because of the timing
of their coming about,
Alexisonfire was able to
benefit greatly from streaming
sites and online radio stations
such as Last.fm and Myspace.
It Skyrocketed their popularity
because these sites doubled
as a social media platform
where friends could share
music that they have listened
to with one another.
5. TheOnlyBandEver
After their success, Alexisonfire was one of the first bands of their
generations to actually create their own personal website –
www.theonlybandever.com. This became both a means of
communication to their fans as members of the band would write
posts and updates on tours and just overall messages to their fans. It
also would become their means of making money as they set up a
store in which to sell merchandise.
6. Enter you text
Facebook has become a major community for the band and its fans.
Today, this is the new way in which the band interacts with its fans.
Offering comments and information on their activities and what they
are planning on bringing forth in the future. Though they have
disbanded, they still acknowledge their fan base and work to deliver
more content through their Facebook page.
7. Dallas Green – City and Color:
The Singer/Guitarist of
Alexisonfire Dallas Green
Decided that he would do a
side folk album under the
name of City and Color. He
experienced great success and
by 2010 He told the band that
he wanted to leave and in
secret they began to create
their fifth and final album. The
album would not be released
and shortly after Alexisonfire
announced their intent to
break up. In the statement,
George Pettit cited Dallas
Green's departure from the
band to focus solely on City and Colour, Wade MacNeil's departure to join
another band, later revealed to be as the new vocalist for Gallows, and other
personal issues among the remaining members as reasons for breaking up.
8. The Final Days:
By 2013, Alexisonfire had grown from an Indie hometown talent to a world wide
Hit with fans from all over North America Australia and the UK.
In December 2012–15 months after the band's breakup announcement—
Alexisonfire embarked on their international, farewell tour with stops in Canada,
UK, Australia and Brazil, originally announced to be a nine-date tour. Due to
demand, the tour was later extended to 15 dates.

interpretations of songs spanning the band's previous four albums.
On December 25, 2013 the band released their vinyl box set on their website

9. How do they Fare With Debra
Eckerling’s social media tips?
10. Find your audience:
I believe that in this case, Alexisonfire
follows suit with Eckerling’s guide.
Alexisonfire knew their audience and they
used that knowledge to connect with
them through various social media
platforms. From creating their own
website to being involved with some of
the most popular music streaming sites
and communication sites such as
Myspace, Facebook, twitter, and Last.Fm
11. Post Meaningful, Sharable
content:
The Band Shared on its website as well as
its Facebook and twitter pages updates for
concerts and any new productions in the
making. In fact it was solely with Facebook
messaging and posting that they were
able to inform fans of the final additions
to an extended Farewell tour. In this sense
I believe they achieve what Eckerling is
speaking of.
12. Engage your current fans:
Even though they have been broken up for
over a year now, Alexisonfire still
continues to post new material for their
fans. They have recently created their own
YouTube channel from which they are
posting video blogs about various songs
and videos that they have released with
explanations behind them (all of which are
linked to from their Facebook and
website)
13. Continue the Social Push?
The website www.theonlybandever.com is
no longer a space solely for
communication news and events and that
makes sense because they are no longer
together. However they now have the site
purely for the selling of merchandise and
pushing their products. In this way they
are still able to “hand out swag” from
their website by putting forth free
material linking to their
products
14. Post consistently?
There is a constant Posting on their
Facebook page and also their twitter.
From simple thoughts to information on
merchandise and any future releases, the
band is in constant contact with their fans.
Considering that they have been “oput of
the business” for over a year now, it is
interesting to see that they are still able to
keep alive their relationship with their
fans through social Media.
15. Ultimately, Alexisonfire has
Fit the model set out by
Debra Eckerling. In fact
there could be an argument
made for the validity of her
model as it seems to have
worked wonders for this
group of kids from St.
Catharines. The even
greater argument would be
toward the fact that
Alexisonfire’s success and
rise in the music industry
was attainable Because
they had such a strong
online presence and social
relationship with their fans.
