of the structure is 756 feet. When the pyramid was first built it was covered in a beautiful smooth
white limestone, but over time the limestone casing was stripped from the pyramid taking away

with manmade constructions. But before towering skyscrapers, grand hotels, and modern chapels
came into existence, the world was bejeweled with ancient forms of engineering. Two of the more
popular constructions from the ancient world include Stonehenge and the Egyptian pyramids at
Giza. These incredible megaliths are seemingly very different, but share various similarities, and
both help archaeologists gain insight to the religious beliefs and socio–political organization of the
people who constructed them. Although Stonehenge and the Pyramids are both marvels of the
ancient world, the differ from each other in many ways. While the construction for both began
around the same time period – construction for Stonehenge began around 3100 BCE (Dr. Senta

30 inches. In this artwork, molten glass and acid–free paper are used to represent Giza, a series of

Thousands and thousands of workers, who technically were not slaves, instead were indentured
slaves, came together and over the course of the next 23 years created this wonder. As is tradition
and custom of ancient Egypt, Pharoahs began constructing their own Pyramids as soon as they took
the throne. This of course provided the laborers and indentured slaves with a building frame and
structure to continue on. Using copper chiseling tools does not seem farfetched as people of that era

The way the pyramid, and the many pyramids built after it, was built is not known today, although
there are many theories, such as they had moved the massive stones, weighing

We may never know how they had actually built the pyramids, but we can theorize.

were originally covered in limestone and topped with gold to reflect the sun's rays, creating a
majestic sight in the name of the pharaohs. Outside of Khafre's mortuary temple lies the Great
Sphinx of Giza. At sixty five feet in height, it is still one of the largest single stone sculptures in the
world. While the Great Sphinx was meant to represent a pharaoh, likely Khafre himself, the sphinx
in general was representational of the intelligence of humans with the strength of a lion and closely
associated with the sun god Ra, further lending credit to their great pharaoh.

It took twenty to thirty years to make the Pyramid and it was finished in 2550 B.C.E.("Mysteries
of"). The Pyramid was said to have had 100,000 people or more working on it, but now scientists
say that it was only about 30,000 people that worked on it ("Mysteries of"). It was built in 2550

The Ancient Difference Both the Mayan and Egyptians constructed one of the most greatest and
well known tourist site of today's generation. (Shneiderman) The Mayan pyramids were built on
Yucatan peninsula in Central America or what is now Guatemala. While the pyramids of Giza were
built in Egypt. (Travel Guide) The Mesoamerican pyramids or in other words Mayan pyramids were
built around 300 B.C. and 500 A.D. On the other hand according to Gustafson the pyramids of Giza
were built around 2550 B.C. to 2490 B.C. (Shneiderman) Since the pyramids of Giza were built
west of the Nile River, this created a space of isolation for the sculptors to build each pyramid.
Similar for the Mayan pyramids they did not have the desert, but they had the jungle to create the
