2. HISTORY
• The Ronald McDonald House was developed in Philadelphia in 1973
• Lexington branch opened in December, 1984
• ”Fred Hill, a member of the Philadelphia Eagles football team learned that his
daughter had leukemia. During the course of her successful treatment, Hill and
his team members and management asked what they could possibly do to help
the children’s hospital. The idea of a place for children’s families to stay was born
at that time. The Eagles football team worked together with the local
McDonald’s stores to raise funds, and eventually a home was opened in
Philadelphia. That House became the first Ronald McDonald House in the
country.”

• “Our Mission. The mission of RMHC is to create, find
and support programs that directly improve the
health and well-being of children and their families. A
world where all children have access to medical care,
and their families are supported and actively involved
in their children's care”
4. WHY THE RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE?
• CLD 230 Community service project
• My group and I cooked a dinner for the
families staying there the Saturday
before Easter
• It was a great experience and I plan to
volunteer there again in the future
5. FORMS OF NEW MEDIA
• The Ronald McDonald House uses all forms of new media including
Facebook, Twitter, Instagram as well as having their own website and
often Television Commercials

• As well as Lexington’s Ronald McDonald House having their own
personal Facebook, website, and commercials due to the local sport
teams
6. EFFECTIVENESS OF NEW MEDIA
• The Ronald McDonald House has been extremely effective
with their use of new media tools having reached millions
of people around the world. Making it capable for families
in need to get in contact with them
• Their use of new media also helps the rmhc raise millions
of dollars each year to help run their facilities
7. REFLECTION ON FORMS OF NEW MEDIA
• I believe that the Ronald McDonald House takes
full advantage of their use of new media tools.
From social media to television commercials, the
rmhc has marketed itself very well.
