MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Bluegrass is to
create and support programs that directly improve the health and well
being of children and to strengthen families by keeping them together
in times of medical need.
Home Website-
http://rmhclexington.com/
WHY?
• RMH is a non profit organization who’s goal is to assist families with
children facing medical problems.
• Their main service is providing families housing while their kids are
being kept in the hospital. The housing is free and designed for
families that don’t have the money to get hotels to be close to their kids.
• They serve any family that is using the hospitals in Lexington and fit
their criteria of a family in need. There are various RMH locations
around the World all on the same mission.
HISTORY
• The idea of homes for families of hospital patients was founded in
Philadelphia, PA, in 1973
• Fred Hill – Philadelphia Eagle- found out his daughter had leukemia.
• Throughout her medical process, Hill and the Eagles organization
continue to find ways they could help the children’s hospital. This is
where the idea of a place to stay for the family was born.
• The eagles team worked together with the local McDonald’s Stored to
raise funds.
• First RMH was founded in Philadelphia.
• Fayette county understood the need in the area. UK athletics assigned
1.43 acres. With committed Volunteers and fundraising they built a 17
bedroom house that opened debt free in 1984
• Served over 25,000 families. Across 38 states and 10 foreign countries.
VOLUNTEER
• The House is completely run by donations and volunteers.
• I started volunteering a year ago- great connection.
• Beth White- Site Manager – Awesome, super helpful and nice.
SOCIAL MEDIA
• Website- very up to date and helpful
• Instagram -3,142 followers and only 6 posts… last in 2013. Although
tags and hashtags are still getting them publicity through there.
• Twitter- Global RMHC account- but no true local account.
• Linkd In profile – Minimum News
• Email Newsletter is used.
USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA
• The website and E-news letter is where they get out all of their
information.
• Not a lot of activity to promote what they are doing. The mission
statement is clear in all of the bios of the Social media accounts.
• The tags and posts of volunteers is the best representation of the work
they do and publicity for them. The rest is word of mouth.
OLD MEDIA
• The email list could be considered old media.
• They recently took away the letter mailing list.
SUGGESTIONS
• Hire someone to handle the social media news. It is a very relevant and
easy way to get the awareness out.
• Youtube- Hire a videographer to make compilations of events and
family success stories to put on the websites and YouTube channel
• Encourage the families and volunteer groups to continue to shout out
RMH, or tag them. Continue to get there name out.
