13. What can I do now to prepare for the
college admission process?
• Visit the website of EVERY college you are
considering applying to.
• Go to the admission page or click on
“prospective students”.
• Find out the requirements and steps involved
in their admission & scholarship application
process.
• Set goals that will lead you to being qualified
and ready to apply one year from now.
14. HERE ARE SOME EXAMPLES
OF WEBSITES FOR
SCHOOLS IN OUR AREA.
19. • We suggest that you narrow your search down to 5-10 your junior
year.
• Paperwork can be overwhelming and it can be costly to apply to
numerous schools.
• However, if a school is a real possibility, do not hesitate to apply.
• You may be surprised at scholarship money offered by some private
schools. It can often make the final cost more competitive.
• Your choice may come down to finances. In the spring of your
senior year, you will receive award letters from each school to
which you applied. You and your parents can compare offers and
make a decision that is best for your family.
20. Requesting Transcripts
• Transcripts should be requested two weeks in
advance on www.parchment.com by YOU, the
student.
• No phone calls or email requests.
• A request sent by a college or Common App will
not suffice.
• Transcripts must be “official” (mailed by the
school).
• We only send transcripts. We do not send other
types of records (blue slips).
• Free until you graduate! Final is $5 plus fees.
• Mrs. Dozier, registrar, handles all transcript
requests.
21. Who is Mrs. Dozier?
She is our very busy, hardworking registrar.
22. PARCHMENT.COM
https://youtu.be/tXkxLcFfC9A
• Do not request “Self View”. Make sure you
uncheck this box.
• If you need an unofficial copy of your transcript, it
may be printed from iNow Home
Portal/Chaklable.
• Be aware that, for now, Parchment will refer to us
as Walker High School.
23. Need more help with that?
• Where is the Career Center?
Across from the
library…
24. Submitting ACT Scores
• You must submit official test scores.
• While we do have an ACT label when you send
your scores to us, that is not an official score.
• If you did not include the school on the list
when you signed up to take the test, you may
pay a fee to have your score sent to additional
schools. This is called an Additional Score
Report. You will do this from your account at
www.actstudent.org.
25. What else can I be doing?
• Join CLUBS!
• Seek out LEADERSHIP ROLES!
• Participate in COMMUNITY SERVICE!
• STUDY! Junior year is vitally important. Your
GPA that you will submit on most applications
will be set at the end of your junior year.
• Have your parents fill out the FAFSA Forecaster
to predict how much financial aid you will
qualify for. https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa/estimate
