2. DISTRIBUTION AND PRODUCTION COMPANIES
• We knew we were producing a film which if completed it would be catogorized as a small
independent film. So when looking a producer and distribution companies, it was small
independent companies which we were looking at. However in the end group 45 did not
use an already existing company, we produced our own. Our production company was
called “ Assano Productions” and our distributors was called “ Dragonfly Pictures”
3. COMPANY RESEARCH
• The Big six company producers are, Columbia pictures (which consist of Sony Pictures),
Warner Bros Entertainment, Walt Disney Pictures, Universal Pictures, 20 th Century Fox
and Paramount Pictures. The big 6 normally distribute films which generally have
extremely high budgets and films which have quite a large fan base. The recent
Hollywood production of Django would be a good example of this.
4. BIG VS SMALLS COMAPNIES
Because our thriller film would come under the category of small independent films, it
would be unlikely that the film would be distributed and produced by large companies. So if
I was to class „‟ Dragonfly Pictures‟‟ it would compare to a company along the lines of
Dogwoof pictures. If I was going to compare „‟Assano Productions‟‟ to an already existing
Production company, I will compare it to a production company which goes by the name of
coffee films. Dogwoof and Coffee films are both very small companies when compared
with other companies like the big 6. That is why they are ideal for our thriller filme
5. WHAT WILL SUIT OUR FILM AND WHY?
The film opening we produced will definitely need a small independent company no matter
what because the budget would be very small and it would not have a big fan base. Films
like ours would be promoted using the internet by using websites like: Facebook, Twitter,
Youtube, Vimeo. Also the type of audience we are trying to attract for our film would range
from 18 – 25 As I mentioned before. This also matches the ways of promotion because the
same age group are the number one users of the technologies I mentioned above. Because
our target audience and the techniques of promotion are so closely linked it would back up
why we should use a small company to distribute our thriller opening
