4. The SeniorSchoolThe SeniorSchool
•In 2008 we changed the structure of the Senior School
to include Years 6-8.
•We introduced a Specialisation programme to offer the
students a greater variety of non-core curriculum
experiences to meet Year 7/8 year level requirement.
•Between 2008-2014 we have continued to adjust and
modify the Senior School programme to ensure it offers
a variety of relevant opportunities.
•We introduced other initiatives to improve the teaching
and learning in the Senior School including new
technologies.

At Kohimarama School, like all schools in New
Zealand, we implement the National
Curriculum.
This curriculum is divided into seven areas:

• Continued group teaching of Reading and Writing
• Current focus on advancing standards in Writing
•Increased student engagement with technology e.g.
blogs, websites, interactive boards, online resources,
Google Docs and the trial of mobile devices in
classrooms.
•Develop programmes that respond to the needs of 21st
Century learners i.e. SOLO, collaborative learning
• Availability of Mathletics to all Snell students
• Continue to develop our oral language programme
through prepared and impromptu speeches and debating

•Participate in a biennial theatre production that involves
every students in the team. This is part of our Performing Arts
programme.

production which involves all students in Year 6 to 8. The
school production provides a variety of opportunities for
our pupils to develop and enhance their creative skills.
