Baking Soda Hypothesis
When baking soda and vinegar mixes, a chemical change occurs. So how much baking soda, added
to 10mL of compound vinegar( CH3CooH), will cause a film canister to shoot the furthest? I
thought the answer to this question was 15mL of baking soda will shoot the lid of the film canister
the furthest because there will be a longer reaction with more baking soda which will propel it far.
This change happens because of they both have reactivity that causes the chemical change and
shoots off the lid. The independent variable is the amount of baking soda and the dependent variable
is how far the lid shoots. The amount of compound baking soda( NaHCO3) varied during several
tests to see how far the lid would shoot from the end of the table to the back wall. Evidence that this
reaction has taken place is the change in odor, color, and the appearance of gas or bubbles.
Materials:
Vinegar
Baking soda
Film canister
Paper towels
Measuring tools
Goggles
Methods:
1. Pour out 10mL of vinegar into the film canister, it should fill up about one fourth of the canister.
2. Put your of baking soda and pour it out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think the reason for this is because we put less paper towel in the canister which allowed more gas
to build up, causing a more forceful and farther shot. This would make sense because the gas made
by the vinegar and baking soda mixing is what caused the lid to fly off. 15mL would not leave
enough room for enough gas to be produced to shoot very far and 3mL would not cause a big
enough reaction to shoot the lid extremely far, so that's why in between those two numbers, 9mL,
was the best for shooting the lid the farthest and why my hypothesis was

This allows your body to digest food easier and more thoroughly which promotes nutrient
absorption by the body and overall health. Apple cider vinegar can also help you feel fuller which
will help you eat less and take some of the strain off of your digestive system. It is also been shown
to help regulate blood sugar levels which promotes weight loss and lowers the risk of diabetes. One
study also showed that regular supplementation with apple cider vinegar reduced body fat,
triglyceride levels, and was effective for overall weight loss. It is a great weight loss supplement and
an easy way to fight obesity.
Helps Prevent Cancer
Apple cider vinegar slows the growth of cancer cells and possibly even kills cancer cells. The results
of studies have been somewhat contradictory on this subject but many possibilities are mentioned.
Some think that the acetic acid in vinegar could be the cancer fighting ingredient. Others have
proposed the pectin found in apples as well as polyphenols as possible anti–cancer ingredients. The
true source is still a mystery but preliminary evidence has shown that apple cider vinegar is useful in
the prevention of some forms of cancer.
Improved Cholesterol Levels and Blood Pressure
A preliminary study performed in rats has shown that apple cider vinegar can significantly reduce
cholesterol in the body. Since the

Baking Soda Rocket Lab Report
Do you know what happens to the atoms during the reaction of baking soda and vinegar, in a bottle?
Well, the vinegar and the backing soda exchange atoms. According to research vinegar and baking
soda react to each other, so if the procedure goes correctly the rocket should launch correctly. But, if
the cork went on the bottle to slow the rocket might not launch at all. For you to completely
comprehend this experiment you need to understand reaction, velocity also kinetic energy
In this experiment there needs to be a chemical reaction. Also there needs to be atoms, "Baking soda
and vinegar react with each other because they exchange atoms" ( UCSB Science Line ). Their also
needs to be a chemical compound for baking soda and vinegar. The chemical compound for baking
soda is NaHCO3. Also the chemical compound for vinegar HCH3COO. They react because baking
soda is a base and vinegar is a acid that will dissolve in water. ... Show more content on

So when the shoot of the rocket, on the ground takes off there will be some things that affect the
velocity. Onething that will affect the velocity are pebbles on the ground. Another thing that might
affect the velocity, is if the launch takes place on a hill or not, because it would gain speed but if we
launch it up a hill then it will slow the velocity down. And lastly, if there was a crack in the ground
and someone filled it with tar, that will make a little of the speed slow down because it is a little
bump. "Rapidity or speed of motion; swiftness" is velocity. ( definition.org ) One reason that the
speed of the rocked slowed down was because of gravity pushing down on the bottle rocket. In the
very beginning the rocket will be going fast but then it will be slowing down because all of the fuel
is being used and also because of

Balloon 6 Balloon Experiment
The lab we did required multiple similar steps, with small variations between them. To begin, we
weighed out separate amounts of baking soda (NaHCO3) for separate test tubes. We had 6 test tubes
labeled 1 through 6. Each test tube held 0.180g, 0.350g, 0.520g, 0.700g, 1.000g, and 1.700 g of
baking soda respectfully. We also used six balloons to each hold a certain amount of vinegar
(CH3COOH). Each balloon held 10 ml of vinegar. We used the balloons as a way to get the vinegar
into the test tubes by fixing the balloon over the mouth of the test tube, being careful not to let the
two materials inside mix. This was the beginning of our lab.Our hypothesis was that balloon number
5 would be the largest balloon due to the nearly even ratio of baking soda to vinegar, we were
proven wrong through the experiment. Balloons 1 through 3 had an excess of vinegar, which means
that all baking soda was dissolved. Balloons 4,5 and 6 had excess baking soda, which means that the
vinegar was unable to dissolve all the baking soda. Balloon 6 was the largest balloon. ... Show more

to see if any baking soda was left behind. A good technique to utilize would be to take pictures of

What Makes A Plastic Out Of Milk?
Introduction Can you make plastic out of milk? Is it even possible? It's true! Milk can be made into
plastic. How? Well, all it takes is hot milk and a little bit of vinegar. The main protein found in milk
is casein. First this student needs to find out how both plastics are formed, whom was their inventor,
what are both plastics used for. There is a lot of background information of casein plastic and
regular plastic that needs to be found. So lets get started.
Casein
Casein is a dairy protein and represents almost 80% of all proteins found in cow's milk. Casein has a
very abundant pool of amino acids, almost equivalent to whey protein, which is a byproduct of
cheese. When casein is ingested, it forms a curdle in the stomach which has a slow effect on the rate
of gastric emptying, which changes the rate of amino acids absorbed into the bloodstream. With the
slow and steady flow of the amino acids follows a prolonged yet low rate of MPS. Which makes
casein the protein supplement to take when going to sleep or when going through prolonged periods
without the opportunity to refuel. Practically like whey protein, there are innumerable standard
choices when it comes to casein supplements. Milk protein and calcium caseinate are the most
common casein supplements. Nevertheless, micellar casein is the most effective. Micellar Casein is
to slowly release protein supplements. These are the highest of protein supplementation.

Acidity The Natural Way
Acidity The Natural Way Stomach acids are essential for the digestion of food. Increased secretion
of acids in the stomach gives rise to acidity. Acidity is manifested by several uncomfortable
symptoms such as burning and pain in the chest and stomach; nausea; bitter taste in mouth; vomiting
and discomfort in the stomach. Acidity, been one of the commonest digestive complaints. At some
point in our lives, we have all suffered from these symptoms. Acidity is generally stimulated by
consumption of spicy foods, junk food, carbonated drinks, fried foods, chocolates, stress or lack of
sleep. Obesity, pregnancy and other medical conditions may also give rise to acidity. Irrespective of
the reason, acidity can prove to be an uncomfortable experience. There are several natural remedies
that work wonders in keeping acidity at bay and also in providing relief from acidity. Though,
chronic acidity complaints may require proper medications. Some of natural remedies are as
follows:– Bananas They prove to be an effective antidote for acidity, as it has a high pH value. More
the pH value, lesser are the symptoms of acidity. Banana further, enhances the production of mucous
by the stomach lining which reduces the harmful effects of acidity. The high fibre content of banana
decreases the recurrence of acidity. Apart from banana, watermelon and cucumbers too are effective
against acidity. Consumption of overripe bananas during an attack of acidity is even more beneficial.

For this experiment, we used three different types of vinegar (distilled white, white wine, and
champagne) to test the acetic acid within each. Our experiment was aimed to test the amount of
acetic acid within each type of vinegar and compare it to the amount listed on each bottle. Our
research question was, what type of vinegar contains the most acetic acid? The phenolphthalein
indicator turned a light pink color to indicate when the acidic solution turned neutral due to the
addition of titrant. The goal of this experiment was to test the acetic acid within each bottle to see if
our data matched the value listed on the bottle.

water. To start the experiment, we added 1.5 ml of the first vinegar sample into a volumetric flask

sodium hydroxide found in the buret to calculate the difference in volume following the titration.
Next, we placed the beaker under the buret. After, we started to let the sodium hydroxide leak out of
the buret and swirled the Erlenmeyer flask while under the buret. When the pink color begins to

Essay On Sushi
The first thing to realize is that Sushi doesn't mean raw fish it actually refers to a dish of vinegared
rice served with various fillings and toppings. Sushi was originally invented as a means of
preservation when fermented rice was used to store fish for anything up to a year. This was known
as narezushi, and in fact the rice was thrown away and only the fish consumed. A later variant called
Nama nare zushi, invented in the 16th Century, introduced the idea of using vinegared rice, which
was consumed instead of being thrown, away and is still enjoyed today particularly in Japan's
ancient Capital Kyoto.
Sushi is said to have originated in China between the 5th and 3rd centuries BC as a means of
preserving fish and salt. Narezushi, the original form of sushi has been made in Southeast Asia for
centuries and nowadays there are still traces of it in some parts. Narezushi appeared in Japan in the
8th century and still survives today in the form of food such as carp sushi. Narezushi was primarily
a means of food preservation and each Japanese religion developed its own version and those days
so she was eating during feast days and festivals and was also an integral part of the celebration.

Other ways you can get this nail problem is constantly wearing fake nails. A weak immune system,
lots of swimming in indoor pools. Diabetes, over 40 years of age, wearing closed shoes constantly
like runners, causing trauma to a nail.
Some people are just more prone to nail fungus than others. It also runs in families, if your mother
or father had it, chances are you will too.
It doesn't matter how you get it, once you have it, it's a real pain trying to find a cure for nail fungus.
The only way you can get rid of it is to allow the nail to grow out, it will not clear up on its own.
The nail has to grow out, and you treat the nail as a new nail is growing. Once the new nail has
grown, it still doesn't mean you are in the clear, continue to treat the nail to prevent the fungus
coming back.
There is no quick and fast way for nail fungus to heal.
Don't be fooled by some of the products available. They are quite expensive and you will end up
buying the product a few times, as you wait for the new nail to grow.

The attractants like apple cider vinegar, wine, or tequila contain acetic acid molecules and hence the
fruit flies are attracted to them.
Apple Cider Vinegar Fruit Fly Trap:
I can bet, you will hear the name of apple cider vinegar traps every time, someone talks about fruit
fly traps.
Apple cider vinegar is one of the most popular attractants used in fruit fly traps. Fruit flies have a
great affinity towards apple cider vinegar. To use it as a lure in fly traps – Mix a cup of apple cider
vinegar with 3 – 5 drops of dish soap.
Dish soap breaks the surface tension of the attractant and causes the trapped flies to sink as soon as
they come in contact with the lure.
Another important tip is that – Heating the apple cider vinegar in the microwave for about 10 –15
seconds before using it, makes it more effective. Household vinegar is composed of diluted acetic
acid with water.
When the vinegar is heated, the water molecules evaporate, thereby increasing the concentration of
acetic acid in the mixture. Doing this releases more of the vinegar's fragrance and hence attracts
more fruit flies.
Apple cider vinegar can be used with any of three traps mentioned

(ascorbic acid), and salt. Other chemicals that were used to do this experiment were vinegar, and
Iodine 2 Solution. The equipment used to do this experiment was red litmus paper, and 5 test tubes
per group. After all materials were gathered, we then had to do five different tests to determine what
the powder material does. The first test was to see what the powder materials do in water. We had to

The Vitamin C turned to a red/orange color with no physical/chemical reaction. For the salt the
solution turned to an orange color with no physical/chemical reaction. With the Alka–Seltzer, the
solution turned to a brown color with no reaction as well. Last but not least, the Baking soda turned
to an orange/brown color with no reaction.
In the last test, we had to test out a mystery powder (powder A, B, C), in its own separate test tube,
in order to solve the Sherlock Holmes Mystery. Our group had powder C. When we mixed water in
the mystery powder, it did not dissolve. When the litmus paper was put into the test tube it turned
blue. When the vinegar was mixed it bubbled/foamed up. When we mixed the iodine solution, there
was no reaction and the solution turned to a dark brown/black color. When we mixed in the baking
soda there was no reaction and it turned to an even darker color. In conclusion, after we had tested
the mystery powder, we had to solve the mystery of who stole Jamal Jackson's iPad. There were four
suspects which were, Ruby, Ima, Manly, and Beau, who were seen at the time the iPad disappeared.
I then cancelled out all the common powders that had no comparison to the mystery powder. The
flour, vitamin C, and salt did not have any comparison which left only the Alka–Seltzer and the
baking soda. The comparisons of the Alka–Seltzer and the baking soda were very similar. They were

Vinegar Experiment
Objective The purpose of this experiment was to use stoichiometry to calculate the volume and
percent yield of CO₂ produced from a reaction of acetic acid (vinegar) with baking soda.
Procedure
First the balloon was weighed on its own, and its mass was 2.8 grams. Then the container with the
sample of baking soda was weighed and its mass was 14.0 g. The baking soda was then placed into
the balloon and the mass was 6.4 g. Lastly, the container minus the baking soda was weighed in
order to be used to calculate the mass of the baking soda on its own, and the empty container's mass
was 10.3 g. In the final step of measuring the mass of the baking soda the amount of moles in the
balloon was calculated by dividing the determined mass in grams (3.7g) by the molecular weight of
NaHCO₃ (84.01 g) to get .004 moles of baking soda. Next, the volume of vinegar was measured
using a graduated cylinder. The amount of vinegar measured was 49.8 mL and then poured into an
empty bottle. To find the mass of vinegar in the soda bottle the density equation used. The density of
vinegar (1.01 g/mL) was multiplied by the volume of vinegar measured (49.8) to get the mass of
vinegar (50.3 grams). Next, the moles of just acetic acid in the bottle were calculated. Vinegar is 7%
acetic acid so the mass of vinegar was multiplied by .07 to determine the mass of CH₃COOH in
grams. Then the 3.52 g was divided by the molar mass of CH₃COOH (60.04 g) to get 0.059 moles of
CH₃COOH in the soda bottle. In

Fermented Products That Are Be Marketed Globally Essay
There are several fermented products that are currently marketed globally. Vinegar is a well–known
product that is utilized in many ways. Various types of vinegars exist worldwide and they vary in
taste, form, and practical use. These factors have been traced back to ancient times within various
cultures. Vinegar has been used as a food preservative, condiment, and a home remedy that has been
used for centuries (Mas et al. 2014). In 1732, the Dutchman Boerhaave noted that the "mother of
vinegar" was a living organism, although he did not specify the role of this organism in the process
of acidification (Mas et al. 2014). Later, it was determined that this process was known as
acetification. Vinegar is produced industrially by two main methods, a slow process involving static
surface acetic acid fermentation and a fast submerged fermentation process (Nanda et al. 2001). The
raw materials, such as sorghum, rice, wheat, grapes, or apples, determine the outcome of the vinegar
(Chen et al. 2016).
In the United States of America, especially the south, many household cleaning products and
integral food additives contain vinegar or its derivatives. What is it about vinegar that makes it such
a dynamic compound? Unlike water, it is bitter to the palate, and in its purest form cannot be
consumed or even handled without proper safety gloves, goggles, and lab coat. Otto and Ebner,
1959 report that the earliest known compounds of vinegar were created via the fermenting processes

Most people who suffer from acne go out and spend good money on common over–the–counter

slow down the healing of acne, and irritate your skin, causing farther breakouts. When an acne
product has 20 ingredients listed on it, it can be hard to know if one of those ingredients is actually

How is Apple Cider Vinegar made?
Apple cider vinegar is obtained by the fermentation of apple cider or apple must which is made from
crushed organic apples. Just for your information, fermentation means an act of conversion. Organic
apples have some kind of bacteria and yeast on their skins. So when they are crushed, you get pure
apple juice with a mixture of bacteria and yeast.
After which you leave it to mature for a while. During this process, sugar in the apple cider is
broken down by yeast and bacteria which turns into alcohol. It's more like a brewing process which
eventually turns into vinegar after a second fermentation.
If you don't have all the time or resources to make one at home, you can easily purchase ACV from
any departmental stores. First of all, make sure you get the organic ACV with the labels saying 'With
the Mother' with an ideal acidity (pH) level of five to seven. This means that it is in raw and pure
form characterized by dark, cloudy, web–like bacterial foam which is brownish in

Vinegar Lab
Introduction & Research: In this lab I are used agar combined with alkali and placed in vinegar to
simulate how long it takes cells with a larger surface area to volume ratio to transport a material in
and out of their cell. In the lab I will answer the following: Why are cells so small? What aspect
determines how big a cell can be and still function?
For a cell to obtain substance, the substance needs to go across the cell membrane. The volume of
the cell determines its metabolism. Cells with large volume need more materials for them to survive
because they have a large surface area.Cells use diffusion to get materials in and out the cell. Cells
that have a large surface area can diffuse more materials in their cells.
Hypothesis:

The diffusion occurred because the alkali in the agar cubes reacts to the vinegar causing the the
cubes to turn yellow from green. The lab displayed how cells would diffuse materials in their
membrane. The agar with largest ratio sized at 0.5 centimeters changed colors at 1.33 minutes while
the agar with the smallest ratio with size of 2.0 centimeters changed colors at 38.2 minutes. This
data supports my hypothesis because it shows that agar smallest ratio took the longest time for it to
change colors. From my observations of the agar in the vinegar, I can conclude that cells with a
smaller surface area to volume ratio would be less efficient at diffusing materials than a cell with a
larger one. I can infer that cells are small because it is efficient for the cell to get materials in and out
of the cell and to carry out their processes while in larger cell their processes would take a longer
time because the cell has more

How Much Acetic Acid Is in Vinegar?
The chemical makeup of certain acids and bases that are not managed reacted properly can be
harmful and a result of improperly measured acids and bases. This could have a negative effect on
humans pertaining to different liquids that could be consumed or physically hazardous to the body.
However, due to decades of research in the department of science, it can be confirmed that ideas like
the HSAB Principle and the Lewis Principle help categorize acids and bases between being harmful
or not and secondarily help humans be more cautious, according to professor Tse–Lok Ho.1
However, experimental these measurements can be specified and determined through titrations.
According to Jakub Ederer and other researchers, titrations have quick and determinable results and
do not require a lot of money and are commonly used for acids.2 The Lab Manual provides an
experiment that includes a titration to determine the moles of acetic acid (HC2H3O2) in a specific
amount of vinegar.3 To follow through with this experiment, the acid–base reaction has a known
molar concentration of NaOH solution that reacts with an unknown molar concentration of acetic
acid to make water and NaC2H3O2, resulting in a titration. Before the initial trial titration, a
thorough cleaning procedure of the buret and materials was necessary to ensure there is no
contamination of other chemicals or solutions. The buret was washed out with soap, tap water, and

INTRODUCTION OF GROUP Plants are one of the most complex organisms; how they grow is
very complex and it is important to see how they grow to even how they die. We first had to propose
a question and test it to see if it was profound enough to test. Our group decided to see how different
chemical substances affect radish plants, and which substance will kill the plant fastest. We planted

Listerine Treatment
Listerine is a proven method to treat lice; it is effective due to its content of alcohol, eucalyptol,
thymol, and menthol and methyl salicylate. These ingredients are toxic for the lice, but safe for the
user. This procedure eliminates the bonding agent that lice eggs stick to on the hair shaft. Treat the
affected by washing followed by toweling and drying the hair. Massage the Listerine into the child's
head and hair this is the safest way to avoid eye contact. The next step is covering the head with a
plastic cap or towel. Leave the treatment on the child's head overnight or for a few hours. Comb the
hair out with a lice comb, and shampoo the hair after. Normally infected condition is resolved with
one use, but you can repeat the treatment again if you are concern there might be remaining nits.
Vinegar Treatment Vinegar is widely used for various purposes, and is highly effective in treating
head lice. The child hair should be shampooed and towel dried as normal, and followed by equal
amounts of white vinegar and water. This solution should be massage in to the head gently. The
mixture acts as a dissolving agent eliminating the dead lice, and removing any remaining nits. An

The Effects Of Acid Rain On Plants
Abstract
Acid rain is a current issue due to the potential danger it could pose to plant life in the case that it is
harmful to plants. In this lab, it was determined whether or not acid water was harmful to red radish
plants, and in doing so, established the possible effects of acid rain on plants. It was hypothesized
that the acid would take all nutrients from the soil, therefore harming the plants. In this lab, three
plants––two experimentals and one control––were monitored after receiving either acid water or tap
water. After the experiment was conducted, it was plain to see that the plants were affected
negatively by the acid water, as the plants to receive the acid water immediately showed symptoms
of nutrient deficiencies, therefore proving the hypothesis. As such, acid rain was proved to be a
danger to the environment, as it destroys nutrients in the soil, therefore killing the plants. Without
efforts to minimize acid rain, it could potentially destroy the ecosystem.
Introduction
The purpose of this lab is to determine whether or not acidic water affects the growth of red radish
plants. Vinegar with a similar acidic pH as acid rain was used to water plants to simulate the effects
of acid rain which is a current problem.. The pH used was 3.5. In comparison, the tap water was a
pH of 7, a neutral liquid. By simulating acid rain and observing how the vinegar affects the plant, it
will be possible to come to a conclusion about how acid rain may affect crops.

of moles = molarity x volume
The acetic acid content of a vinegar may be determined by titrating a vinegar sample with a solution
of sodium hydroxide of known molar concentration (molarity).
Acid + Base –> Salt + Water
CH3COOH (aq) + NaOH (aq) –> CH3COONa (aq) + H20 (l)
At the end point in titration, stoichiometry between both the solutions lie in a 1 : 1 ratio.
Calculating the molarity of acetic acid in vinegar:

Making Apple Cider Vinegar So Healthy?
What is Apple Cider Vinegar?
The process for making apple cider vinegar begins by first mashing up ripe apples. Next, special
bacteria and yeast are added into this mash, and it is fermented into alcohol. Lastly, more bacteria
are added in that make acetic acid form. The mixture is strained, so that only a liquid remains, and it
is officially vinegar.
What Makes Apple Cider Vinegar so Healthy?
The acetic acid is what causes the bitter flavor that most people associate with this liquid. It is also
one of its most important health properties. However, other health attributes are also found in the
bacteria and cultures that that are added into it. Some cheaper types of apple cider vinegar purify the
liquid until it is clear. This kills the healthy bacteria though. The organic types that still have the
bacteria and cultures in it usually appear more cloudy.
What are its Benefits?
Apple cider vinegar is one of the healthiest cleaning products available. It sanitizes and disinfects
surfaces just as well as products containing harsh chemicals. It can clean carpets, clothing, floors,

heartburn if your esophageal sphincter is weak or too relaxed. Or, if food or stomach acid "burps"
back up into your esophagus. All that moving and shaking with too much spicy foods, acidic foods,
sodas, coffee, chocolate and alcohol in your gut may be the catalyst. But ACV could help improve
acid reflux if you're not taking medications, and with minimal risk. A study from Arizona State
University found that raw or unfiltered apple cider vinegar may help prevent heartburn. It's
generally safe to consume a small amount of apple cider vinegar before your workout, but it should
be diluted with water suggests HealthLine. You can also add a little raw honey to the mix to help
improve the taste.
Weight loss may be accelerated
When it comes to losing weight, ACV has always been a go–to remedy prior to

The Effect Of Diffusion On A Controlled Environment
Introduction:
Diffusion is defined as a type of passive transport and is the movement of particles across the
membrane of the cell. There are three types of diffusion. They are simple diffusion, facilitated
diffusion and osmosis. The type of diffusion that this experiment focuses on is osmosis. Osmosis
can be demonstrated in a controlled environment. A controlled environment is an environment in
which the conditions have specifically set by the experimenter. And vice versa, an uncontrolled
environment is one in which the conditions are not manipulated. Osmosis can be defined as the
movement of water across a semipermeable membrane. As mentioned in the article that was
excerpted from, "High flow porous membranes for separating water from ... Show more content on

Corn syrup converts over to a mixture of six Carbon, twelve Hydrogen and six Oxygen in addition
to one hydrogen and two oxygen which is shortened to the formula of C6H12O6 + H2O. The last
solution , isotonic, will be actually be demonstrated by all three solutions including the water, corn
syrup, and apple cider and white vinegar. This due to how all three solutions will become a
equilibrium, or balance in particles because of osmosis. But in order to perform this experiment the
shell of the three experimental eggs must be removed before the eggs can be placed in their
substances. This is done when calcium carbonate breaks down it creates carbon dioxide, water, and
calcium acetate thus dissolving the calcium carbonate shell. In which this information is vital in the
way that it must be done in order to conduct this experiment correctly. Therefore the research
question that is to be evaluated is "What is the effect of osmosis on cells in a controlled
environment?" This research question was significant to the researcher due to the fact that osmosis
is an essential in order to aid in research for the detection of new remedies for infectious diseases.
Additionally the hypothesis tested in this experiment will furthermore investigate the effect of
osmosis in a controlled environment. Osmosis is proven to be able to move across a semipermeable
membrane throughout this forthcoming experiment. In a controlled

Limiting Reactant Lab Experiment Using Baking Soda and...
Baking Soda and Vinegar: Limiting Reactant Lab
Background
The limiting reactant of a chemical reaction is the substance that places an upper bound on the
amount of product that the reaction can produce. The limiting reactant places this upper bound
because the reaction must stop once all of the limiting reactant is consumed. If the relative amount
of reactants is altered, then the limiting reactant may change accordingly. For example, a balanced
chemical equation of a certain reaction specifies that an equal number of moles of two substances A
and B is required. If there are more moles of B than of A, then A is the limiting reactant because it is
completely consumed when the reaction stops and there is an excess of B left over. ... Show more

5.Position gas collecting hose so it runs from reaction vessel through gas collecting box to opening
of the graduated cylinder. The idea is that any gas coming through the tube will rise in the graduated
cylinder and displace the water in it.
6.Record the amount of air, if any, in the top of the graduated cylinder.
7.Quickly add the vinegar to the reaction vessel and stopper the opening.
8.When the reaction is completed, record the volume of gas in the graduated cylinder. Record
observations about which reactant was the limiting reactant.
9.Repeat the procedure with a new mass of baking soda. Before beginning, rinse the reaction vessel
with water. Refill the graduated cylinder with water. Check water level in collection box so it has
room for the water from the graduated cylinder.
10.Clean up: Rinse reaction vessel, empty collection box, dry table as needed, cleanup up any
baking soda spills..

Baking Soda Hypothesis

  • 1. Baking Soda Hypothesis When baking soda and vinegar mixes, a chemical change occurs. So how much baking soda, added to 10mL of compound vinegar( CH3CooH), will cause a film canister to shoot the furthest? I thought the answer to this question was 15mL of baking soda will shoot the lid of the film canister the furthest because there will be a longer reaction with more baking soda which will propel it far. This change happens because of they both have reactivity that causes the chemical change and shoots off the lid. The independent variable is the amount of baking soda and the dependent variable is how far the lid shoots. The amount of compound baking soda( NaHCO3) varied during several tests to see how far the lid would shoot from the end of the table to the back wall. Evidence that this reaction has taken place is the change in odor, color, and the appearance of gas or bubbles. Materials: Vinegar Baking soda Film canister Paper towels Measuring tools Goggles Methods: 1. Pour out 10mL of vinegar into the film canister, it should fill up about one fourth of the canister. 2. Put your of baking soda and pour it out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I think the reason for this is because we put less paper towel in the canister which allowed more gas to build up, causing a more forceful and farther shot. This would make sense because the gas made by the vinegar and baking soda mixing is what caused the lid to fly off. 15mL would not leave enough room for enough gas to be produced to shoot very far and 3mL would not cause a big enough reaction to shoot the lid extremely far, so that's why in between those two numbers, 9mL, was the best for shooting the lid the farthest and why my hypothesis was ... The results of studies have been somewhat contradictory on this subject but many possibilities are mentioned. Some think that the acetic acid in vinegar could be the cancer fighting ingredient. Others have proposed the pectin found in apples as well as polyphenols as possible anti–cancer ingredients. The true source is still a mystery but preliminary evidence has shown that apple cider vinegar is useful in the prevention of some forms of cancer. • 5. Baking Soda Rocket Lab Report Do you know what happens to the atoms during the reaction of baking soda and vinegar, in a bottle? Well, the vinegar and the backing soda exchange atoms. According to research vinegar and baking soda react to each other, so if the procedure goes correctly the rocket should launch correctly. But, if the cork went on the bottle to slow the rocket might not launch at all. For you to completely comprehend this experiment you need to understand reaction, velocity also kinetic energy In this experiment there needs to be a chemical reaction. Also there needs to be atoms, "Baking soda and vinegar react with each other because they exchange atoms" ( UCSB Science Line ). Their also needs to be a chemical compound for baking soda and vinegar. The chemical compound for baking soda is NaHCO3. Also the chemical compound for vinegar HCH3COO. They react because baking soda is a base and vinegar is a acid that will dissolve in water. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So when the shoot of the rocket, on the ground takes off there will be some things that affect the velocity. Onething that will affect the velocity are pebbles on the ground. Another thing that might affect the velocity, is if the launch takes place on a hill or not, because it would gain speed but if we launch it up a hill then it will slow the velocity down. And lastly, if there was a crack in the ground and someone filled it with tar, that will make a little of the speed slow down because it is a little bump. "Rapidity or speed of motion; swiftness" is velocity. ( definition.org ) One reason that the speed of the rocked slowed down was because of gravity pushing down on the bottle rocket. To begin, we weighed out separate amounts of baking soda (NaHCO3) for separate test tubes. We had 6 test tubes labeled 1 through 6. Each test tube held 0.180g, 0.350g, 0.520g, 0.700g, 1.000g, and 1.700 g of baking soda respectfully. We also used six balloons to each hold a certain amount of vinegar (CH3COOH). Each balloon held 10 ml of vinegar. We used the balloons as a way to get the vinegar into the test tubes by fixing the balloon over the mouth of the test tube, being careful not to let the two materials inside mix. This was the beginning of our lab.Our hypothesis was that balloon number 5 would be the largest balloon due to the nearly even ratio of baking soda to vinegar, we were proven wrong through the experiment. Balloons 1 through 3 had an excess of vinegar, which means that all baking soda was dissolved. Balloons 4,5 and 6 had excess baking soda, which means that the vinegar was unable to dissolve all the baking soda. Balloon 6 was the largest balloon. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 13. What Makes A Plastic Out Of Milk? Introduction Can you make plastic out of milk? Is it even possible? It's true! Milk can be made into plastic. How? Well, all it takes is hot milk and a little bit of vinegar. The main protein found in milk is casein. First this student needs to find out how both plastics are formed, whom was their inventor, what are both plastics used for. There is a lot of background information of casein plastic and regular plastic that needs to be found. So lets get started. Casein Casein is a dairy protein and represents almost 80% of all proteins found in cow's milk. Casein has a very abundant pool of amino acids, almost equivalent to whey protein, which is a byproduct of cheese. When casein is ingested, it forms a curdle in the stomach which has a slow effect on the rate of gastric emptying, which changes the rate of amino acids absorbed into the bloodstream. With the slow and steady flow of the amino acids follows a prolonged yet low rate of MPS. Our experiment was aimed to test the amount of acetic acid within each type of vinegar and compare it to the amount listed on each bottle. Our research question was, what type of vinegar contains the most acetic acid? The phenolphthalein indicator turned a light pink color to indicate when the acidic solution turned neutral due to the addition of titrant. The goal of this experiment was to test the acetic acid within each bottle to see if our data matched the value listed on the bottle. To start the experiment, we added 1.5 ml of the first vinegar sample into a volumetric flask and filled the rest with distilled water, then moved it to an Erlenmeyer flask. Next, we added 3 drops of the 0.5% phenolphthalein solution to the flask. After, we set up the buret with the buret clamp and filled the buret with 0.1 M solution of sodium hydroxide. We then noted the starting level of the sodium hydroxide found in the buret to calculate the difference in volume following the titration. Next, we placed the beaker under the buret. After, we started to let the sodium hydroxide leak out of the buret and swirled the Erlenmeyer flask while under the buret. When the pink color begins to show up but quickly disappear, we slowed the buret to a drop by drop pace. When the solution turned a very light pink and stayed at that color, we stopped the flow of sodium hydroxide. • 19. Essay On Sushi The first thing to realize is that Sushi doesn't mean raw fish it actually refers to a dish of vinegared rice served with various fillings and toppings. Sushi was originally invented as a means of preservation when fermented rice was used to store fish for anything up to a year. This was known as narezushi, and in fact the rice was thrown away and only the fish consumed. A later variant called Nama nare zushi, invented in the 16th Century, introduced the idea of using vinegared rice, which was consumed instead of being thrown, away and is still enjoyed today particularly in Japan's ancient Capital Kyoto. Sushi is said to have originated in China between the 5th and 3rd centuries BC as a means of preserving fish and salt. Narezushi, the original form of sushi has been made in Southeast Asia for centuries and nowadays there are still traces of it in some parts. Narezushi appeared in Japan in the 8th century and still survives today in the form of food such as carp sushi. The attractants like apple cider vinegar, wine, or tequila contain acetic acid molecules and hence the fruit flies are attracted to them. Apple Cider Vinegar Fruit Fly Trap: I can bet, you will hear the name of apple cider vinegar traps every time, someone talks about fruit fly traps. Apple cider vinegar is one of the most popular attractants used in fruit fly traps. Fruit flies have a great affinity towards apple cider vinegar. To use it as a lure in fly traps – Mix a cup of apple cider vinegar with 3 – 5 drops of dish soap. Dish soap breaks the surface tension of the attractant and causes the trapped flies to sink as soon as they come in contact with the lure. Another important tip is that – Heating the apple cider vinegar in the microwave for about 10 –15 seconds before using it, makes it more effective. Household vinegar is composed of diluted acetic acid with water. When the vinegar is heated, the water molecules evaporate, thereby increasing the concentration of acetic acid in the mixture. Doing this releases more of the vinegar's fragrance and hence attracts more fruit flies. Apple cider vinegar can be used with any of three traps mentioned

  • 31. Vinegar Experiment Objective The purpose of this experiment was to use stoichiometry to calculate the volume and percent yield of CO₂ produced from a reaction of acetic acid (vinegar) with baking soda. Procedure First the balloon was weighed on its own, and its mass was 2.8 grams. Then the container with the sample of baking soda was weighed and its mass was 14.0 g. The baking soda was then placed into the balloon and the mass was 6.4 g. Lastly, the container minus the baking soda was weighed in order to be used to calculate the mass of the baking soda on its own, and the empty container's mass was 10.3 g. In the final step of measuring the mass of the baking soda the amount of moles in the balloon was calculated by dividing the determined mass in grams (3.7g) by the molecular weight of NaHCO₃ (84.01 g) to get .004 moles of baking soda. Next, the volume of vinegar was measured using a graduated cylinder. The amount of vinegar measured was 49.8 mL and then poured into an empty bottle. To find the mass of vinegar in the soda bottle the density equation used. The density of vinegar (1.01 g/mL) was multiplied by the volume of vinegar measured (49.8) to get the mass of vinegar (50.3 grams). Next, the moles of just acetic acid in the bottle were calculated. Vinegar is 7% acetic acid so the mass of vinegar was multiplied by .07 to determine the mass of CH₃COOH in grams. Then the 3.52 g was divided by the molar mass of CH₃COOH (60.04 g) to get 0.059 moles of CH₃COOH in the soda bottle. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Fermented Products That Are Be Marketed Globally Essay There are several fermented products that are currently marketed globally. Vinegar is a well–known product that is utilized in many ways. Various types of vinegars exist worldwide and they vary in taste, form, and practical use. These factors have been traced back to ancient times within various cultures. Vinegar has been used as a food preservative, condiment, and a home remedy that has been used for centuries (Mas et al. 2014). In 1732, the Dutchman Boerhaave noted that the "mother of vinegar" was a living organism, although he did not specify the role of this organism in the process of acidification (Mas et al. 2014). Later, it was determined that this process was known as acetification. Vinegar is produced industrially by two main methods, a slow process involving static surface acetic acid fermentation and a fast submerged fermentation process (Nanda et al. 2001). The raw materials, such as sorghum, rice, wheat, grapes, or apples, determine the outcome of the vinegar (Chen et al. 2016). In the United States of America, especially the south, many household cleaning products and integral food additives contain vinegar or its derivatives. What is it about vinegar that makes it such a dynamic compound? Unlike water, it is bitter to the palate, and in its purest form cannot be consumed or even handled without proper safety gloves, goggles, and lab coat. Vinegar Lab Introduction & Research: In this lab I are used agar combined with alkali and placed in vinegar to simulate how long it takes cells with a larger surface area to volume ratio to transport a material in and out of their cell. In the lab I will answer the following: Why are cells so small? What aspect determines how big a cell can be and still function? For a cell to obtain substance, the substance needs to go across the cell membrane. The volume of the cell determines its metabolism. Cells with large volume need more materials for them to survive because they have a large surface area.Cells use diffusion to get materials in and out the cell. Cells that have a large surface area can diffuse more materials in their cells. Hypothesis: If ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The diffusion occurred because the alkali in the agar cubes reacts to the vinegar causing the the cubes to turn yellow from green. This data supports my hypothesis because it shows that agar smallest ratio took the longest time for it to change colors. From my observations of the agar in the vinegar, I can conclude that cells with a smaller surface area to volume ratio would be less efficient at diffusing materials than a cell with a larger one. I can infer that cells are small because it is efficient for the cell to get materials in and out of the cell and to carry out their processes while in larger cell their processes would take a longer time because the cell has more ... Improves digestion – Apple cider vinegar is useful for people suffering from digestive problem and stomach issues like reflux, bloating and indigestion. This benefit of apple cider vinegar is because of the presence of pectin in it. Pectin creates fibrous materials which breaks up diarrhea and also coats the lining of colon which prevents intestinal spans. To achieve this benefit, it is advisable to take one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar before each meal. Boosts Energy– Apple cider vinegar is rich in potassium and enzymes. Because of this, consumption of apple cider vinegar can result in awakening feeling, the same one that we get from sipping caffeine. Cerumen or an ear wax is the yellowish substance produced in the ear canal, which is secreted by the cerumen glands located in the ear. Its role is to keep the interior of the ear safe from dust, dirt and bacteria. However, most people consider it unnecessary and unclean, so they regularly clean the ears. In most cases, people use ear sticks to clean the ear wax, but you must know that they are not effective– on the contrary, they only push the bacteria inside the ear. In addition, you should also know that the excess wax is removed naturally by chewing or swallowing. At times, it can lead to unpleasant problems such as headaches, sinus problems, ear pain, ... This is a science that brings together biology and chemistry. Biochemistry focuses on processes happening at molecular level, what's happening inside our cells, studying components like proteins, and lipids and organelles. It looks at how cells communicate with each other. Through the comprehension of specific idea about biochemistry the experiment of the "naked egg" can be understood. Prior experimentation, the history of the egg, and vinegar allows for the important concepts of the "naked egg" to be applied through biochemistry. When carbon dioxide is absorbed by seawater, chemical reactions occur that reduce seawater pH, carbonate ion concentration, and saturation states of biologically important calcium carbonate minerals. This is called ocean acidification, OA for short. Carbon pollution is warming the climate, but it is also making oceans more acidic. Oceans absorb about a quarter of the carbon dioxide, humans produce this by burning fossil fuels each year, that is changing their basic chemistry. This can be bad for creatures in the ocean that have calcium carbonate in their shells or skeletons, this includes mollusks, crabs, and corals. Those creatures are having a hard time living as the sea is changing because of the acidic water, it makes it harder for them to grow their shells. • 60. The Effects Of Acid Rain On Plants Abstract Acid rain is a current issue due to the potential danger it could pose to plant life in the case that it is harmful to plants. In this lab, it was determined whether or not acid water was harmful to red radish plants, and in doing so, established the possible effects of acid rain on plants. It was hypothesized that the acid would take all nutrients from the soil, therefore harming the plants. In this lab, three plants––two experimentals and one control––were monitored after receiving either acid water or tap water. After the experiment was conducted, it was plain to see that the plants were affected negatively by the acid water, as the plants to receive the acid water immediately showed symptoms of nutrient deficiencies, therefore proving the hypothesis. As such, acid rain was proved to be a danger to the environment, as it destroys nutrients in the soil, therefore killing the plants. Without efforts to minimize acid rain, it could potentially destroy the ecosystem. Introduction The purpose of this lab is to determine whether or not acidic water affects the growth of red radish plants. Vinegar with a similar acidic pH as acid rain was used to water plants to simulate the effects of acid rain which is a current problem.. The pH used was 3.5. In comparison, the tap water was a pH of 7, a neutral liquid. By simulating acid rain and observing how the vinegar affects the plant, it will be possible to come to a conclusion about how acid rain may affect crops. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Baking Soda and Vinegar: Limiting Reactant Lab Background The limiting reactant of a chemical reaction is the substance that places an upper bound on the amount of product that the reaction can produce. The limiting reactant places this upper bound because the reaction must stop once all of the limiting reactant is consumed. If the relative amount of reactants is altered, then the limiting reactant may change accordingly. For example, a balanced chemical equation of a certain reaction specifies that an equal number of moles of two substances A and B is required.
