Aseptic Technique 1
Aseptic technique Michele Pearson, Leah Christine Silver, and William Jarvis Purpose Aseptic
technique is employed to maximize and maintain asepsis, the absence of pathogenic organisms, in
the clinical setting. The goals of aseptic technique are to protect the patient from infection and to
prevent the spread of pathogens. Often, practices that clean (remove dirt and other impurities),
sanitize (reduce the number of microorganisms to safe levels), or disinfect (remove most
microorganisms but not highly resistant ones) are not sufficient to prevent infection. The Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that over 27 million surgical procedures are
performed in the United States each year. Surgical site infections are ... Show more content on

Despite this careful scrub, bare hands are always considered potential sources of infection. Sterile
surgical clothing or protective devices such as gloves, face masks, goggles, and transparent eye/face
shields serve as barriers against microorganisms and are donned to maintain asepsis in the operating
room. This practice includes covering facial hair, tucking hair out of sight, and removing jewelry or
other dangling objects that may harbor unwanted organisms. This garb must be put on with
deliberate care to avoid touching external, sterile surfaces with nonsterile objects including the skin.
This ensures that potentially contaminated items such as hands and clothing remain behind
protective barriers, thus prohibiting inadvertent entry of microorganisms into sterile areas. Personnel
assist the surgeon to don gloves and garb and arrange equipment to minimize the risk of
contamination. Donning sterile gloves requires specific technique so that the outer glove is not
touched by the hand. A large cuff exposing the inner glove is created so that the glove may be
grasped during donning. It is essential to avoid touching nonsterile items once sterile gloves are
applied; the hands may be kept interlaced to avoid inadvertent contamination. Any break in the
glove or touching the glove to a nonsterile surface requires immediate removal and application of
new gloves. Asepsis in the operating room or for other invasive procedures is also maintained by

How Stress Management Techniques And Relaxation Methods...
When examining which topic I should choose for this final paper I had to do a lot of thinking and
figure out which topic would be most relevant to me. This was a challenging question for so many
of these topics could relate to me and I would have a lot of information towards them. I narrowed it
down and decided to pick the topic of stress management. Specifically, how stress management
techniques and relaxation methods can help patients suffering from chronic pain. How effective are
these tactics? How do they compare to traditional pharmacological approaches to pain management?
I believe that this is an interesting topic and have learned a lot about myself in regards toward stress
management and different types of coping techniques. This is a paper that is very informative and
beneficial in many ways for it has helped me examine the health benefits of the different types of
stress management techniques.
When examining my life I had to figure out how does this topic relate to me, but then I realized that
this does not relate to me, but it relates to someone who is near and dear to me. This person who I
am talking about is my mother and she has actually been going through chronic pain after she had an
accident and this has affected her life for almost 5 years now. I will explain what had happened to
my mother and where she is today. It was about 5 years ago and my mother, father, and brother were
at a car dealership waiting to get our car fixed, so this was a basic routine

Aseptic Technique And Culturing Bacteria
MATERIAL and METHODS:
Aseptic Technique and Culturing Microbes(1) experiment was followed as stated in the lab manual
from Clinical Microbiology Class C–453. Aseptic technique was initiated at the beginning of each
experiment. Starting by cleansing the work surface with disinfected wipes to prevent cross
contamination each time. Utilizing the gloves and personal protective equipment assisted in
maintaining a pure culture during the series of experiments. The first step, was to grow the yeast and
bacteria cultures. The materials used for the Aseptic Technique Experiment(1) were: test tube rack, 5
mL nutrient broth tubes, pipettes, a lit tea light, Fleischmen's rapid yeast pack, E. Coli tablet and the
S. epidermidis tablet. Started by activating the yeast, by placing the content of Fleischmen's yeast
bag in a disposable cup. Then added approximately 60 mL of warm tap water into the disposable
cup. To assist in mixing the two items, I carefully swirled the cup. Once the mixture was combined,
it then was left alone for around 10 minutes or until it was frothy. Each nutrient broth tube was
labeled with the correct name of the microorganism that was cultured in that tube and dated. The S.
epidermidis was selected first, to be cultured. Taking one of the 5mL nutrient broth tube in one hand,
the pipette in other hand. The cap was removed with the same hand that had the pipette. Utilizing a
lit tea light, like a bunsen burner, I flamed the mouth of the nutrient

My Expeirences with the Foot-in-the-Door Phenomenon
As a class we have covered numerous concepts, theories and techniques in chapters six, through
eight and eleven in our textbooks and in class lectures. The concept in which has intrigued me so far
in the semester of social psychology is the foot–in–the–door phenomenon. The foot–in–the–door
phenomenon is described in our textbooks as "the tendency for people who have first agreed to a
small request to comply later with a large request" (Virginia Commonwealth University, 2013). It
can be understood as asking someone (i.e. friend, family member, co–worker or stranger) agreeing
to do a small service for you then later they are more willing to agree to a larger favor that you ask
of them. Most of this phenomenon is based on how you present the first small request to the targeted
person. Your initial attitude follows the behavior. The foot–in–the–door phenomenon is a persuasion
strategy used to manipulate someone to submit to your requests. It starts off as an insignificant
gradual process and before you know it you are giving a lot of support or service to someone
without noticing it right away. This technique is seen regularly in public organizations like charities.
An example would be a charity would ask the public to sign a petition or wear a button to support
the organization. After this small request the campaigner then goes back after a week (give or take)
and asks for a donation. The person then feels obligated to give to the charity after submitting to the

Argumentative Essay-Dance Is A Sport
Dance is a Sport
Is dance a sport? A sport is an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or
team competes against another or others for entertainment, dance is just that, but others consider it
an art or even just a halftime show. Dance teams in high schools do not get funded as much as other
sports and they get very little to no recognition at school or even on big sports channels. Dance
meets the requirements to even be an Olympic sport. Dance should be considered a sport as much as
other athletics.
First of all, there is very little funding that goes into dance, considering it is a sport and needs to be
equal to the other athletics. At Madisonville North Hopkins High School the dance team starts out
the season with only the remaining money that the team raised the previous season, it is different
from other sports. For example, football was given $9,500 this year to start out the season. Another
major issue is that the dance team has to practice in the lobby, ... Show more content on

Have you ever heard dance talked about on the big sports channels announcing that a team won the
regionals competition, or that they are advancing to Nationals? No, because many do not think about
the competitive aspect of dance, they only think about the stereotypical ballerinas. Usually the only
accounts of dance that people witness is at halftime during a game. Dance does not have a weekly
event scheduled for it like soccer, basketball, or other high school or college sports teams, which is
another reason why many don't see it as a sport. The only events that dance has is big competitions
that usually happen on the weekends. In dance, you can compete against large groups, duets, or even
soloist. They also do not think about the time and hard work that is put into the sport. Dance
requires strength, endurance, and coordination. It takes a lot of practice to be a strong dancer, just as

Essay About Adolescents Et La Societe Face Au Numerique
CHAPITRE 2 : ADOLESCENTS ET LA SOCIETE FACE AU NUMERIQUE A. Implémentation

Community's Reaction to the Fire in Yackandandah Forest in...
Embers
Campion Descents' play "Embers" examines the connection between individuals and the community
as they react to significant events. The communities' residents' reaction to the fire in yackandandah
forest, The story of the Blue Duck hotel ... and the kangaroo and the story of danny and don ... and
the horses. Campion uses a wide range of techniques such as repetition, Irony, alliteration and
Imagery/onomatopoeia.This is also shown by quotes from Campion's interview by the abc on the
2003 Victorian bushfires.
The connection of the community and individuals is shown by Campion in The Communities'
residents' reaction to the fire in yackandandah forest.'Skinny, Slippery Path' (pg 41) is the use of
alliteration by campion to show how dangerous the experience of a bushfire real is and the things
they would have to overcome to be able to save themselves and others they cared about. Campion
also uses Repetition 'Burn me hands because it doesn't work, it doesn't work like it does in the
movies.' (pg 41) this conveys that they done what they need/had to do to save the animals that the
cared dearly as her plan did not work according to her plan. An additional example of this would be '
Then as that roar got closer you couldn't hear a thing' (pg 42) this is alliteration, of the word 'roar'
which show that the fire was very loud and dangerous as it came closer to them in the
mineshaft. This shows that no matter how dangerous the situation got the community would do there

Analysis Of ' On The Waterfront '
"On the Waterfront" was photographed in such a captivating way. Boris Kaufman had a vision ahead
of his time. Many scenes in the movie are understood, not just through the script, but from the
cinematography as well. Three scenes in particular catch my eye. It is the artistic style and flare of
conveying the same idea in multiple mediums. The first scene is when Terry and Edie are on the
rooftop at Joey's pigeon coup. This scene portrays the moment in which I believe was the catalyst
for Terry that lead him to be truthful to Evie and stand up to Friendly. The second scene that I will
speak about is when "Kayo" Dugan is killed. When the preacher is giving his speech to all the
longshoremen. That speech was a testament of one man speaking out for what he knew was right.
The third scene that I will choose for this essay is where Terry walks to Friendly's dock office. After
the fight, Terry's march to work puts you on the edge of your seat. Each scene has depth that few
movies achieve. The first scene is the rooftop scene with Terry and Evie. The whole scene is shot
with natural light. Kaufman begins the scene with a long shot of the rooftop. Terry is waving a long
stick with a rag at the top of it to call back the pigeons to the coup. I believe Terry waving the "white
flag" was an implied surrender to Evie's love and the truth of what really happened to Joey. Even
though, Terry is still conflicted afterwards, this is his first step toward standing up to the Friendly
and his

The Use Of Aseptic Techniques For An African American...
Introduction In this lab, a biopsy will be retrieved from a surgeon who has a probable cause that the
patient might have Ewing's Sarcoma. The patient will be an African American male, between the
ages of 10 and 20. The biopsy will not be performed individually but by the surgeon due to there
being certain location of incision in order to minimize any complication in future treatment. Once
the biopsy is obtained rom the surgeon, aseptic technique should be used in order to minimize any
contamination of the specimen. Since the tissue being extracted form the body, time will be of an

The well being of the patient will be on the factors of the location of the tumor and where the
sarcoma has spreads. Locations and Symptoms of Sarcoma The tumor doesn't have a specific
location of origin; therefore occurring anywhere in the body, most often staring in long bones of the
legs, arms, chest, the pelvis, skull or the flat bones of the trunk. It is also common that the tumor
often spreads (metastasizes) to the lungs, other bones, bone marrow, and soft tissue, such as
cartilages and nerves. It is normally seen that about one–third of the children with Ewing's sarcoma
has spread through the body during the duration of the diagnosis. The symptoms form Ewing's
sarcoma is pain, swelling, stiffness, or tenderness of the bone or the surrounding tissue. There may
also be a lump near the surface of the skin that may feel warm and soft to the touch. The patients
may also have a fever that does not go away. The sarcoma may cause weakening of the bone with
the tumor, resulting in the integrity of the bone, thereby having the bone break due to a very minor
injury. Types of Ewing's Sarcoma Ewing's Sarcoma comes in several different forms: Ewing
sarcoma of bone, Extraosseous Ewing sarcoma, Peripheral Primitive Neuroectodermal tumor
(pPNET), and Askin tumor. [3]The most prominent type is Ewing's sarcoma is of the bone, having a

Aseptic Technique Essay
This essay it will explain the Aseptic Technique and how it is used to prevent the spread of infection
in wounds. It will also give a personal experience of performing the technique.
Hart (2004) states the principle of Aseptic Technique is to prevent the spread of micro organisms to
wounds and to protects the nurse and patient from healthcare–associated infections (HCIA). The
technique used for less invasive procedures such as intravenous drugs and wound care is the Aseptic
No–touch Technique (ANTT) (Pratt et al 2007).
The key aspects of this skill are consent, preparation and prevention. The nurse must obtain consent
from the patient and explain the procedure. The patient must be made comfortable and placed in a
suitable position ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I found my first introduction to ANTT interesting. I enjoy practical sessions and find it a good
source of learning. When being shown ANTT I thought that the Donning/wearing of gloves may
cause problems due to cross contamination, however once tried I found the process relatively
simple. Very quickly I adjusted to the process and refrained from touching hair/clothes
The purpose of the ANTT is to protect the patient and nurse from infection and to prevent the spread
of pathogens. This can have a huge effect on the recovery rate of the patient. HCIA can mean a
longer stay or readmission to hospital and in some cases lead to disability or death (Hart 2007). This
information suggests that the ANTT is not being carried out correctly and Department of Health
(2005) support this by stating that 9% of patients contract HCAI's per year in UK hospitals.
I recognise that with my own experience it can be quite easy to cause cross contamination, correct
hand washing is vital as it is one of the main cause for the increase of infections in hospitals. I
thought that washing your hands was quite straight forward until I used the ultra violet light and saw
the places that I missed. I now practise the seven stages of hand washing ensuring I clean my hands
correctly reducing the risk of cross contamination.
I know that with continued practice I shall carry out the ANTT confidently and without making
mistakes, remembering to dispose of items correctly. I have also

Is Dance A Sport Essay
Is dance a sport? Many people right now are thinking "How is the harlem shake or the cupid shuffle
a sport?", but that is not what we are talking about, we are talking about dance sports and teams.
"But Sport is in the name DANCESPORT" is what some are saying now, but many still don't accept
this kind of dance as a sport yet. There are two sides to this argument, those who are for dance as a
sport are usually those who are in a dance sport or are educated in the subject. While those who are
against it as a sport tend to not be part of a dance sport or just don't know what they are truly talking
about. So why don't we delve into this argument. Let's start with the definition of a sport. Oxford

A Six-Step Writing Process
As high school students you write almost every day whether that is in the form of an essay, research
paper or a tweet on the Internet. What if I told you there was a simpler way to write that allows
information to be organized as well as presented better? The writing process consists of six main
steps. These six steps consist of pre–writing, drafting, revising, editing, proofreading and publishing.
Some of these steps are more prominent in the process, but as a whole these steps assist in the
creating of a clear and well–written paper. To help demonstrate the writing process in simpler way I
will relate it to something that is well known to most teenagers, that being food. Not just food but
also the process of preparing food in specific the process of creating a stir–fry. In the writing process
the first step consists of a pre–writing stage. Pre–writing can be explained in the form of an outline
or notes about the writing assignment you will begin shortly. In congruence with the pre writing
stage, creating a stir–fry uses similar procedures. So to start off the stir–fry process you must first
gather your ingredients. These ingredients can consist of a variety of meats to provide protein
including chicken, shrimp and beef. This step is just like in a paper when you gather the info for the
bulk of your paper, such as choosing the topic of the paper. By doing this first step in the writing
process as well as the cooking process you prepare yourself a guideline for the

Aseptic Techniques
Asepsis can be defined as the complete absence of bacteria, fungi, viruses or other microorganisms
that could cause disease. Aseptic techniques refer to a set of skills that are used to ensure any
environment being examined or dressed remains free from micro–organisms by not directly
touching the wound or any other surface that might come into contact with the wound (McFerran
and Martin 2008).
Sterilization techniques and effective hand washing technique also play a major role in maintaining
aseptic conditions. Aseptic techniques may be adopted in a number of environments including
surgery, community and ward based nursing. There are many procedures which require asepsis such
as inserting a catheter, suturing a wound (Aziz 2009) or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Depending on the type of wound this may include debridement, swabbing or using fluids to remove
debris and necrotic tissue. Some patients may even prefer to shower their wounds with tap water.
This should be discussed with the nurse as a preferred and more suitable method for irrigation, as
swabbing may damage fragile granulation tissue (Briggs 2008) as cited by Griffiths et al (2001).
Once the wound has been cleansed a new dressing appropriate for the type of wound should be
applied as quickly as possible to minimise airborne contamination (Pegram and Bloomfield 2010).
All equipment used in the procedure should be put in the waste bag provided and disposed of in an
appropriate bin.
The ANTT may be used by nurses when they are cleansing wounds or changing dressings. Wounds
healing by primary or secondary intention should be approached in the same manner whether the
wound is open or closed ensuring asepsis throughout. A solution that is non–toxic to the tissue is
used to remove debris, wound exudates and metabolic wastes, these processes are used to cleanse
the wound and help to promote wound healing (Briggs 2008). The ANTT should be adopted when
attending to surgical site wounds, pressure ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, leg ulcers and less superficial
wounds such as skin tears and scrapes where the integrity of the skin has been breached or

The Importance Of The Treatment Of Wounds
Question: 4.3– Discuss the importance for the treatment of wounds: 4.3 A. Sterile vs. Clean
technique As it was well stated by Barber et al (3) it may be difficult to determine whether to use a
clean technique or a sterile technique when dealing with the different types of wound one
encounters. As mentioned in the same article, it is important to consider the policies of the hospital.
The the type of wound, bone exposure and an immunosuppressed state would also require sterile
technique. Research has been done in order to determine which technique to use. The Agency for
Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) has emitted guidelines regarding that clean procedure
should be used in the context of pressure ulcers. On the other hand, the Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention (CDC) advise for use of sterile technique when dealing with surgical wounds. The
CDC also has provided healthcare workers with guidelines up to 48 hours after wound closure and
not for longer periods of time. The Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society 's fact sheet (4)
has brought some definitions and recommendations with regards to clean or sterile techniques to be
used in wound care. Table 3 outlines some of the reasons when clean or sterile procedures should be

How do the Literary Devices construct meaning in "The Visit"? The book "The Visit" is a play
which is composed by literary devices. All of the messages and ideas that this play contains are
expressed through literary devices, thus giving life to the major themes. Literary devices give
meaning to "The Visit" because they construct the main theme, which is money can corrupt

This change in people's character again contributes to the main theme, and gives meaning to it.
Furthermore, the setting is a fundamental literary device which forms the main theme and gives
meaning to "The Visit". This is because the setting paves out the environment and situation in which
Guellen is in from the beginning of the book. All throughout Act 1 the reader is given the idea of
how poor Guellen is and everyone is so humble and local. For example, how the train no longer
stops in Guellen, how people only buy cheap local brands at the shop and not imported, how they
accept Ill as dead for Claire's one million, how Ill is the most popular personality. These examples
all show how the town functions, and how they are desperate for money and are willing to commit a
moral crime in order to receive this money. The setting in the "The Visit" gives meaning to the play
because it fundaments how and why Guellen is the way it is and allows the reader to understand the
specific effects Guellen's history plays in the decision making, once Claire offers the one million
pounds. So, literary devices also give meaning to "The Visit" because they lay the base for the play
and how it develops. Finally, literary devices give meaning to "The Visit" because they comprise the
main theme, which is money can corrupt anything. Literary devices give meaning by creating the
bases of the play, and forming the main theme in wide number of ways. Literary devices are the

What are Aseptic Techniques?
Introduction
Aseptic techniques were practised by microbiologists in order to eliminate unwanted
microorganisms in their working environment, protecting those microbiologists from the potential
pathogenic microorganisms and preventing the contaminations of microorganisms to the working
environment (Henretig & King, 2008). One of the ways for practising of aseptic technique is the
sterilization of lab equipment such as glassware; liquids such as diluents can be sterilize using the
autoclave machine, which using moist heat or saturated steam for sterilization (Henretig & King,
2008).
The moist heat autoclave machine uses steam as an agent of sterilization. It is ideal for the
elimination of bacterial spores than using dry heat. The bacterial spores of bacillus
stearothermophilus using in this experiment is a thermophilic bacterium in which it's range of
optimum temperature of 55–60°C; when the autoclave machine was set to a temperature of 121°C,

Reflection of the Aseptic Technique Essay
During my community placement I was given many opportunities to dress wounds, replace catheters
and attend to PEG's, all of which are done using the 'Aseptic Technique'. For procedures such as
pressure sores, leg ulcers, simple grazes' removing drains or sutures, the 'clean technique' is used
which is a modified aseptic technique and aims to avoid introducing micro organisms to a
susceptible site and also to prevent cross contamination to patients and staff, it differs from an
aseptic technique, as the use of sterile equipment and the environment are not as crucial as would be
required for asepsis (Gough 2009).
The Aseptic technique is one of a number of procedures that contributes to preventing Health Care
Associated Infections (HCAI) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are a number of problems for community nurses, such as maintain a sterile field, being a lone
practioner, no dressing trolley and limited access to single–use sterile items. To some extent
contamination of the sterile field arises from a break in the aseptic procedure to perform wound
cleansing either because of the use of tap water or because irrigation systems such as pods or aerosol
canisters are not sterile on the outside (although the fluid it contains is sterile). The other major
constraint relates to having to place the sterile field on furniture within a patient's home rather than
on a clean trolley as it would be rather difficult for nurses to carry trolleys around in their cars.
There are a couple of things which are done to reduce the risk of contamination of the sterile field.
Firstly the sterile field is placed at a height which would prevent contamination of the field from
skin scales and fibres while changing a dressing and the sterile field should be ideally be placed on a
clean table, ensuring that the sterile packs are fit for purpose as Unsworth (2010) clearly states that it
is common for manufacturers to incorporate items in to the packs which should be available to the
nurse prior to opening the pack as packs contain aprons and gloves may appear to

A Brief Note On The Integrated Lab Class
Harish Singh
Pharm 858
Journal Reflection #3
In the first week of the Integrated Lab class focused on becoming familiar with HER during which
we learned how to navigate and access important patient information. EHR is utilized by all
healthcare professionals to document all therapeutic interventions. Documenting everything
efficiently and accurately ultimately leads to better patient care. I believe by being accustomed to
using and documenting in an EHR, pharmacy students can be better prepared when transitioning to
their APPE rotations. The second few weeks we spent time learning drug information research
techniques, Aminoglycoside dosing, abbreviated SOAP notes and vital skills Lab. In drug
information research, we were taught how to respond appropriately to a drug related question posed
by a health care professional. There was a class review of the appropriate resources to utilize while
formulating a response to the inquiry. Appropriate citing methods were also highlighted during that
session. Learning how to respond in a clear and concise manner while referencing appropriate
literature is a skill set indispensable to all healthcare professionals. During the last few weeks, we
did inpatient hospital simulation, IV room simulation and APPE Boot Camp. In Aminoglycoside
dosing case, we discussed PK/PD parameters of Gentamicin, tobramycin and Amikacin along with
their adverse effects and monitoring parameters. Given a case scenario, each student had to assess

how to take them off. I was thinking gloves?? Everybody knows how to put on gloves and take them
off. Then each of us got one packet of sterile gloves. When I opened them, I didn't like how they
were smelling. My teacher was telling us that it really matters if you are left handed and right

practicing on regular gloves. Assessment: Putting on gloves was easy because we practiced on
regular gloves first. The problem was how to open the packet. Gloves were packed

Waitrose Narrative Techniques
This analytical essay will be focused upon the narrative technique and on the use of symbols in the
short story Fusilli. The short story is part of Graham Swift´s collection called "England and other
stories". The short story is burdened in sadness and regret, which the main–character displays as he
constantly reconsiders his past actions in his hesitant attempts to figure out whether he could have
prevented his son becoming a soldier or even his son´s death.
The text depicts a couple´s struggling life after their son is killed in action in Afghanistan. The short
story consists of flashbacks from the main–person´s previous experiences which take place inside
the Supermarket Waitrose. The story is constructed by a specified narrative technique called
backstory, which means that the story precedes past events or background, which add meaning to
the current circumstances. Besides the story being depicted by past events in Waitrose, the story also
consists of the main–character´s present daily–routines and struggles after the death of his son –

A Historical Perspective On Anxiety Management Training Essay
In the article by Richard M. Suinn, of Colorado State University, titled "Clinical Practice, University
Research, and Students: A Historical Perspective on Anxiety Management Training" from The
American Psychologist, Suinn discusses the history and application of Anxiety Management
Training, AMT.
He first explains his development of AMT through is many years of educating at various
universities. Suinn first talks how he first "examined how anxiety influenced the relationship
between self–acceptance and acceptance of others and the association between anxiety and
identification" at Whitman College. (Suinn, 1995, p. 287) After many years of research he along
with one of his student, Hunter Hill, they found "that anxiety disrupts the trend for self–perceptions
to color evaluations of others and is significantly associated with low self–esteem." (Suinn, 1995, p.
287) While at Whitman he also conducted research with another student, Tom Smith, where they
hypothesized that is a correlation between high identification and low anxiety. However, this
hypothesis was proven to be wrong and they found no relationship between the two. Suinn, then
talks about his time at the University of Hawaii. Here, along with some of his students, investigated
if group desensitization or individual desensitization was more effective. It was found that they were
both equally affected, even more so they discovered that a briefer approach was just as successful as
a longer approach when reducing

Aseptic Technique
An aseptic technique ensures that only uncontaminated equipment and fluids come into contact with
susceptible body sites. It should be used during any clinical procedure that bypasses the body's
natural defences. Using the principles of aseptic minimises the spread of organisms from one person
to another.
An essential part of infection control is firstly identifying possible sources on infection, and
secondly the modes by which the infection might be spread. Any infection is caused by one of four
types of microorganisms, bacteria, viruses and protozoa. These organisms can be carried by both the
patients and the staff, and on any equipment used within the practice. They can also be transferred
outside the work place where patients may come

Analysis Of ' The Pearls On A String '
Out of all the amazing things I saw in the Pearls on a String, the one that I found the most interesting
was Akbar and 'Abd al–Rahim, from the Akabarmana (Book of Akabr, 1586–1589). It is amazing to
see how many different scenes can all occur in one piece. Overall, The Book of Akbar had multiple
outstanding pieces but the emotion in this particular page is what caught my attention. Although I
did not study the other pages as intensely as this one, it is clear to see that Abul Fazlt's technique is
spectacular throughout each and every page. This painting is historical, depicting a young Abdul
Rahim Khan–I–Khana being received by Akbar after his family was killed. A great story is told
throughout the entire book, although this particular image has more of an intensity to it. This page
functions as a devotional image in order to display the emotional trauma 'Abd al–Rahim must have
felt having all that he knew dragged from under him. This occurrence after royal bloodshed
subsequently sets a mood for the piece. Some of the painting is hard to depict, due to some men
appearing respectful and embracing while others appeared with contempt. This page is taller than
wide with a beautiful background paper designs. The placement of the piece is harmonious in every
way possible. In paying attention to the placement more emphasis is put onto the central area of the
painting. The frame compliments the shape of the piece allowing it to bring your focus back after

Essay on Aseptic Technique & Culturing Microbes
Aseptic Technique & Culturing Microbes Questions A. What is the difference between a bactericidal
and bacteriostatic agent? What is the difference between sterilization and disinfection? Control of
growth refers to the prevention of growth of microorganisms. This control is affected in two basic
ways: by killing microorganisms or by inhibiting the growth of microorganisms. Control of growth
usually involves the use of physical or chemical agents which either kill or prevent the growth of
microorganisms. Agents that kill cells are called cidal agents; agents that inhibit the growth of cells
without killing them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The goals of aseptic technique are to protect the patient from infection and to prevent the spread of
pathogens. Often, practices that clean (remove dirt and other impurities), sanitize (reduce the
number of microorganisms to safe levels), or disinfect (remove most microorganisms but not highly
resistant ones) are not sufficient to prevent infection. E. Describe three common forms of growth
that you are likely to see in a broth culture. Pellicle – mass of organisms floating in or on top if broth
Turbidity – organisms appear as a general cloudiness through the broth Sediment – mass of
organisms appears as a deposit at the bottom of tube F. What is the difference between an aerobe and
an anaerobe? Aerobes are organisms that grow only in the presence of oxygen. They obtain energy
from aerobic respiration. Anaerobes are organisms that grow only without oxygen; oxygen inhibits
or kills them. They obtain energy from anaerobic respiration or fermentation. G. Describe the
difference between facultative and obligate. Obligate means "by necessity". For example an
Obligate aerobe is an organism that cannot survive without oxygen, and an Obligate anaerobe, an
organism that cannot survive in the presence of oxygen. Facultative means "optional" or
"discretionary". For example, a Facultative anaerobe, is an organism that can use oxygen but also
has anaerobic methods of energy production. It can survive in either

Analysis of Characters, Conflict, and Symbolism in "A Good Man Is hard to Find"
The story "A Good Man is Hard to Find" is a fascinating story about a family traveling to Florida for
a family vacation. The story's main characters are the grandmother, the mother and a baby, the father
Bailey, and the two children June Star and John Wesley. On this trip the family has a run in with the
other characters The Misfit, Bobby Lee, and Hiram who are escaped convicts headed towards
Florida. O'Connor uses literary elements such as flashback and characterization to explore what it
means to be a good person. It appears as the only good person in the story is the person the
grandmother becomes through her struggle with the Misfit. O'Connor seems to ... Show more

The story seems to imply how the modern man becomes spiritual when faced with evil. The
grandmother seems to be unconcerned with the rest of her family: "'I know you wouldn't shoot a
lady!'"(441). She thinks she is a "lady" she shouldn't be shot. The grandmother is self–centered; she
did not even beg for the life of anyone in her family but her own. She is always the first to criticize
everyone but never looks at herself in a critical manner. The conflicts in this story highlight the
character's nature. The main fiction element in O'Connor's "A Good Man Is Hard to Find" is
symbolism. Most of the Symbolism in this story is masked behind a lot of foreshadowing: "They
passed a large cotton field with five or six graves fenced in the middle of it, like a small island"
(371). The number of graves foreshadows the death of each family member. Five or six represents
the uncertainty of whether at least one member of the family will survive or not. After the accident
the family waits for someone to come help them, ironically The Misfit, Bobby Lee, and Hiram pull
up in "a big black battered hearse–like automobile"(375). The Hearse by definition is a vehicle that
carries a coffin to a funeral. So, this is another image of death forthcoming, which foreshadows the
outcome of the family before The Misfit and his accomplices even get out of the car. In general
symbolism is an important element in this short story; many times it

The Rabbinic Approach : Genesis 11 : 1
The rabbinic approach is the rabbis and religious people's point of view on a story. Studying the
rabbinic approach can add to the understanding of Genesis 11:1–9 because rabbis compare texts to
other texts in the Tanakh or verses of a text. They look for the similarities to help us interpret the
story. This makes us compare characters or words said throughout the story. This helps us
understand the text better. For example, the rabbinic approach compares Genesis 11:4 with Genesis
11:2. the people built the tower to show independence from G!d and show they didn't need g!d
anymore. The rabbinic approach gets this interpretation from Genesis 11:3. This relates to Genesis 4
"Come let us build for ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the skies." They wanted to build
the tower themselves to how independence as the rabbinic approach points out. They thought that
they didn't need G!D anymore and building this successfully would prove that. But they did need
G!d everyone needs G!D. The rabbinic approach says Building the tower to show independence is
bad because they didn't any longer worship and except g!D. Everyone needs G!d and the fact that
they thought they didn't need G!D was bad because he is above us. This part of the rabbinic
approach will help us understand the story because it is a very helpful fact to know in understanding
the text when it. The lesson this part of the rabbinic approach teaches us to be loyal and respect G!d
as our G!D. In addition, we should

I Have A Good Idea Of My Stress
When it comes to wellness issues, I have always struggled the most with stress. I have always been
more prone to become stressed, due to my anxiety. Therefore, stress is a big obstacle in my life, and
it is something that I need to find a way to deal with, especially now that I have begun to attend
college. Because I have dealt with anxiety before, I have a good idea of my stress level. My stress
levels can become very high, and as a result, I have several ways of dealing with stress. As a result, I
am familiar with some of the techniques mentioned in the textbook. For example, exercising has
always been an effective stress technique for me. As mentioned in the textbook, performing
exercises such as running and walking on a regular basis has been an effective way for me to reduce
stress. However, the textbook has also introduced me to new techniques to help manage my stress,
as well as ways to improve techniques I already use. One of these new techniques is eating healthy.
Prior to reading the text, I never considered that my eating habits would affect my stress levels.
However, after reading through the text, I can definitely see how my eating habits and stress levels
affect each other. After evaluating my eating habits, I noticed that I do not eat healthy when I am
stressed. When I become stressed or have an important event coming up, such having a test or a

Criminal Investigators and Interrogations-Interviews
To find the truth in any interview/interrogation it takes a skilled and qualified investigator. Criminal
Investigators continue to learn every day. They find new techniques to approach an
interview/interrogation, they learn new ways to talk to people, and the success of their
interviews/interrogations depends on their ability to take what they learn and apply it. In order to
develop great interview and interrogation skills, one must be able to communicate well verbally and
non–verbally, be able to read body language, and know the facts of their case to be able to ask the
right questions. To be a successful Criminal Investigator, one needs to have great
interrogation/interview skills.
During interviews/interrogations a Criminal Investigator needs to listen and observe. Listening to
verbal behavior helps the investigator determine whether or not the individual is speaking the truth
or lying. When an investigator asks questions, it is crucial for them to watch how the individual
reacts to those questions. According to John Reid Associates, there are cues to look for and listen for
when conducting an interrogation/interview. Some cues are clearing of the throat, deep
breathing/sighing, and nervous laughing.
During interviews/interrogations, Criminal Investigators need to be able to read body language.
Body language is a key factor in determining if an individual is lying. When an individual is lying
they show signs indicating the question that was asked sparked an

Microcapsules Essay
Layer–by–Layer Approach for Making Microcapsules
Muhammad Faiz Omar (201308264)
4th December 2014
Abstract
The fabrication of hollow multilayer microcapsules in the beginning is initiated by layer–by–layer
(LbL) self–assembly technique of oppositely charged polyelectrolyte on colloidal template followed
by core decomposition. The main concept of microencapsulation is to protect the contents of
fabricated microcapsules from the harmful environment in which it is surrounded. In this literature
review, I shall outline the technique of microcapsules encapsulation employing LbL approach, lists
of polyelectrolytes and templates and application of microcapsules.
Introduction
Over the past decades, nanometre–sized or known as microcapsules have been benefited the
approach of Layer–by–Layer(LbL) technique due to the ability of tailoring their properties(e.g., size
, shape, colloidal stability, surface–functionality, composition) that are biocompatible and
biodegradable.1–3,10They are broadly used in many applications including food technologies,
cosmetics, textiles industry and pharmaceuticals. The LBL assembly of multilayers are
fundamentally built up by the alternating deposition of oppositely charged polyelectrolytes onto a
sacrificial template such that the charge oscillates between positive and negative with each layer.1,4
The establishment of nanocoatings using LbL assembly method distinguishes itself in its
intelligibility compared to the more conventional method. The

Surprised by Joy and William Blake’s poem, The Sick Rose...
William Wordsworth's poem titled "Surprised by Joy" and William Blake's poem, "The Sick Rose"
employs a range of poetic techniques to highlight the pain that love can create. On the other hand,
John Clare's poem titled "First Love" and Robert Burns's poem, "A Red, Red Rose" contrastingly
explore the theme of love as a positive to be celebrated. William Wordsworth's poem titled
"Surprised by Joy" is a sonnet which uses simile, personification, metaphor, emotive language and a
question to highlight the pain love can create. The poet uses the simile "impatient as the wind" to
emphasize the fact that life is like the wind, it comes and goes as it pleases. In this case, the "wind"
is used as a symbol for 'life'. "Silent tomb" is a personification which shows that his love, being his
daughter, is dead and cannot respond to him. The metaphor "have I been so beguiled as to be blind"
is used to highlight the grief and pain his daughter's death has caused him. "Grievous love" is an
emotive language which is used to show how much heartache and misery love can bring us when it
is lost. The question "how could I forget thee?" is used in this poem to stress the importance of his
memories of his deceased daughter which being the only thing that he has of her. The poet
successfully expresses his opinion on how much pain love can create through his use of various
poetic techniques. Similarly, William Blake's poem, "The Sick Rose" uses personification,
symbolism, oxymoron and rhyme to

washed my hands again. After leaving the patients home I discussed my practical experience with
the Nurse who informed me that I although I had carried out the procedure well it was actually
carried out using a clinically clean technique rather than the Aseptic Non Touch Technique as I had
thought. As I had used the same gloves to remove the dirty dressings from the leg ulcer and then
apply new sterile dressings I had not maintained the Aseptic Non Touch Technique. The Nurse
informed me that this was perfectly suitable for the procedure I carried out as the wound was still
kept as clean as possible and dressings and equipment used were sterile. Whilst carrying out the
procedure I felt confident with my practice of the dressing change using the Aseptic technique.
Although I was slightly nervous and self–conscious as I was aware that the trained Nurse was
observing me, I felt that this did not come across in my body language or my practice. When the
Nurse told me that I was not using the Aseptic Non Touch Technique I felt unsure of the whole
process which then led to me re–evaluating my practice within this area. The Lincolnshire

A Report On The Les Benefices Du Numerique

Aseptic Technique 1

  • 1. Aseptic Technique 1 Aseptic technique Michele Pearson, Leah Christine Silver, and William Jarvis Purpose Aseptic technique is employed to maximize and maintain asepsis, the absence of pathogenic organisms, in the clinical setting. The goals of aseptic technique are to protect the patient from infection and to prevent the spread of pathogens. Often, practices that clean (remove dirt and other impurities), sanitize (reduce the number of microorganisms to safe levels), or disinfect (remove most microorganisms but not highly resistant ones) are not sufficient to prevent infection. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that over 27 million surgical procedures are performed in the United States each year. Surgical site infections are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite this careful scrub, bare hands are always considered potential sources of infection. Sterile surgical clothing or protective devices such as gloves, face masks, goggles, and transparent eye/face shields serve as barriers against microorganisms and are donned to maintain asepsis in the operating room. This practice includes covering facial hair, tucking hair out of sight, and removing jewelry or other dangling objects that may harbor unwanted organisms. This garb must be put on with deliberate care to avoid touching external, sterile surfaces with nonsterile objects including the skin. This ensures that potentially contaminated items such as hands and clothing remain behind protective barriers, thus prohibiting inadvertent entry of microorganisms into sterile areas. Personnel assist the surgeon to don gloves and garb and arrange equipment to minimize the risk of contamination. Donning sterile gloves requires specific technique so that the outer glove is not touched by the hand. A large cuff exposing the inner glove is created so that the glove may be grasped during donning. It is essential to avoid touching nonsterile items once sterile gloves are applied; the hands may be kept interlaced to avoid inadvertent contamination. Any break in the glove or touching the glove to a nonsterile surface requires immediate removal and application of new gloves. Asepsis in the operating room or for other invasive procedures is also maintained by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Aseptic Technique And Culturing Bacteria MATERIAL and METHODS: Aseptic Technique and Culturing Microbes(1) experiment was followed as stated in the lab manual from Clinical Microbiology Class C–453. Aseptic technique was initiated at the beginning of each experiment. Starting by cleansing the work surface with disinfected wipes to prevent cross contamination each time. Utilizing the gloves and personal protective equipment assisted in maintaining a pure culture during the series of experiments. The first step, was to grow the yeast and bacteria cultures. The materials used for the Aseptic Technique Experiment(1) were: test tube rack, 5 mL nutrient broth tubes, pipettes, a lit tea light, Fleischmen's rapid yeast pack, E. Coli tablet and the S. epidermidis tablet. Started by activating the yeast, by placing the content of Fleischmen's yeast bag in a disposable cup. Then added approximately 60 mL of warm tap water into the disposable cup. To assist in mixing the two items, I carefully swirled the cup. Once the mixture was combined, it then was left alone for around 10 minutes or until it was frothy. Each nutrient broth tube was labeled with the correct name of the microorganism that was cultured in that tube and dated. The S. epidermidis was selected first, to be cultured. Taking one of the 5mL nutrient broth tube in one hand, the pipette in other hand. The cap was removed with the same hand that had the pipette. Utilizing a lit tea light, like a bunsen burner, I flamed the mouth of the nutrient ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. My Expeirences with the Foot-in-the-Door Phenomenon As a class we have covered numerous concepts, theories and techniques in chapters six, through eight and eleven in our textbooks and in class lectures. The concept in which has intrigued me so far in the semester of social psychology is the foot–in–the–door phenomenon. The foot–in–the–door phenomenon is described in our textbooks as "the tendency for people who have first agreed to a small request to comply later with a large request" (Virginia Commonwealth University, 2013). It can be understood as asking someone (i.e. friend, family member, co–worker or stranger) agreeing to do a small service for you then later they are more willing to agree to a larger favor that you ask of them. Most of this phenomenon is based on how you present the first small request to the targeted person. Your initial attitude follows the behavior. The foot–in–the–door phenomenon is a persuasion strategy used to manipulate someone to submit to your requests. It starts off as an insignificant gradual process and before you know it you are giving a lot of support or service to someone without noticing it right away. This technique is seen regularly in public organizations like charities. An example would be a charity would ask the public to sign a petition or wear a button to support the organization. After this small request the campaigner then goes back after a week (give or take) and asks for a donation. The person then feels obligated to give to the charity after submitting to the initial ... • 11. Argumentative Essay-Dance Is A Sport Dance is a Sport Is dance a sport? A sport is an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment, dance is just that, but others consider it an art or even just a halftime show. Dance teams in high schools do not get funded as much as other sports and they get very little to no recognition at school or even on big sports channels. Dance meets the requirements to even be an Olympic sport. Dance should be considered a sport as much as other athletics. First of all, there is very little funding that goes into dance, considering it is a sport and needs to be equal to the other athletics. At Madisonville North Hopkins High School the dance team starts out the season with only the remaining money that the team raised the previous season, it is different from other sports. For example, football was given $9,500 this year to start out the season. Another major issue is that the dance team has to practice in the lobby, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Have you ever heard dance talked about on the big sports channels announcing that a team won the regionals competition, or that they are advancing to Nationals? No, because many do not think about the competitive aspect of dance, they only think about the stereotypical ballerinas. Usually the only accounts of dance that people witness is at halftime during a game. Dance does not have a weekly event scheduled for it like soccer, basketball, or other high school or college sports teams, which is another reason why many don't see it as a sport. The only events that dance has is big competitions that usually happen on the weekends. In dance, you can compete against large groups, duets, or even soloist. They also do not think about the time and hard work that is put into the sport. Dance requires strength, endurance, and coordination. Embers Campion Descents' play "Embers" examines the connection between individuals and the community as they react to significant events. The communities' residents' reaction to the fire in yackandandah forest, The story of the Blue Duck hotel ... and the kangaroo and the story of danny and don ... and the horses. Campion uses a wide range of techniques such as repetition, Irony, alliteration and Imagery/onomatopoeia.This is also shown by quotes from Campion's interview by the abc on the 2003 Victorian bushfires. The connection of the community and individuals is shown by Campion in The Communities' residents' reaction to the fire in yackandandah forest.'Skinny, Slippery Path' (pg 41) is the use of alliteration by campion to show how dangerous the experience of a bushfire real is and the things they would have to overcome to be able to save themselves and others they cared about. Campion also uses Repetition 'Burn me hands because it doesn't work, it doesn't work like it does in the movies.' (pg 41) this conveys that they done what they need/had to do to save the animals that the cared dearly as her plan did not work according to her plan. • 17. Analysis Of ' On The Waterfront ' "On the Waterfront" was photographed in such a captivating way. Boris Kaufman had a vision ahead of his time. Many scenes in the movie are understood, not just through the script, but from the cinematography as well. Three scenes in particular catch my eye. It is the artistic style and flare of conveying the same idea in multiple mediums. The first scene is when Terry and Edie are on the rooftop at Joey's pigeon coup. This scene portrays the moment in which I believe was the catalyst for Terry that lead him to be truthful to Evie and stand up to Friendly. The second scene that I will speak about is when "Kayo" Dugan is killed. When the preacher is giving his speech to all the longshoremen. That speech was a testament of one man speaking out for what he knew was right. The third scene that I will choose for this essay is where Terry walks to Friendly's dock office. After the fight, Terry's march to work puts you on the edge of your seat. Each scene has depth that few movies achieve. The first scene is the rooftop scene with Terry and Evie. The whole scene is shot with natural light. Kaufman begins the scene with a long shot of the rooftop. Terry is waving a long stick with a rag at the top of it to call back the pigeons to the coup. I believe Terry waving the "white flag" was an implied surrender to Evie's love and the truth of what really happened to Joey. Even though, Terry is still conflicted afterwards, this is his first step toward standing up to the Friendly and his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hart (2004) states the principle of Aseptic Technique is to prevent the spread of micro organisms to wounds and to protects the nurse and patient from healthcare–associated infections (HCIA). The technique used for less invasive procedures such as intravenous drugs and wound care is the Aseptic No–touch Technique (ANTT) (Pratt et al 2007). The key aspects of this skill are consent, preparation and prevention. The nurse must obtain consent from the patient and explain the procedure. The patient must be made comfortable and placed in a suitable position ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I found my first introduction to ANTT interesting. I enjoy practical sessions and find it a good source of learning. When being shown ANTT I thought that the Donning/wearing of gloves may cause problems due to cross contamination, however once tried I found the process relatively simple. Very quickly I adjusted to the process and refrained from touching hair/clothes The purpose of the ANTT is to protect the patient and nurse from infection and to prevent the spread of pathogens. This can have a huge effect on the recovery rate of the patient. HCIA can mean a longer stay or readmission to hospital and in some cases lead to disability or death (Hart 2007). This information suggests that the ANTT is not being carried out correctly and Department of Health (2005) support this by stating that 9% of patients contract HCAI's per year in UK hospitals. I recognise that with my own experience it can be quite easy to cause cross contamination, correct hand washing is vital as it is one of the main cause for the increase of infections in hospitals. I thought that washing your hands was quite straight forward until I used the ultra violet light and saw the places that I missed. I now practise the seven stages of hand washing ensuring I clean my hands correctly reducing the risk of cross contamination. I know that with continued practice I shall carry out the ANTT confidently and without making mistakes, remembering to dispose of items correctly. I have also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. Is Dance A Sport Essay Is dance a sport? Many people right now are thinking "How is the harlem shake or the cupid shuffle a sport?", but that is not what we are talking about, we are talking about dance sports and teams. "But Sport is in the name DANCESPORT" is what some are saying now, but many still don't accept this kind of dance as a sport yet. There are two sides to this argument, those who are for dance as a sport are usually those who are in a dance sport or are educated in the subject. While those who are against it as a sport tend to not be part of a dance sport or just don't know what they are truly talking about. So why don't we delve into this argument. Let's start with the definition of a sport. Oxford defines a sport like this "an activity that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 25. A Six-Step Writing Process As high school students you write almost every day whether that is in the form of an essay, research paper or a tweet on the Internet. What if I told you there was a simpler way to write that allows information to be organized as well as presented better? The writing process consists of six main steps. These six steps consist of pre–writing, drafting, revising, editing, proofreading and publishing. Some of these steps are more prominent in the process, but as a whole these steps assist in the creating of a clear and well–written paper. To help demonstrate the writing process in simpler way I will relate it to something that is well known to most teenagers, that being food. Not just food but also the process of preparing food in specific the process of creating a stir–fry. In the writing process the first step consists of a pre–writing stage. Pre–writing can be explained in the form of an outline or notes about the writing assignment you will begin shortly. In congruence with the pre writing stage, creating a stir–fry uses similar procedures. So to start off the stir–fry process you must first gather your ingredients. These ingredients can consist of a variety of meats to provide protein including chicken, shrimp and beef. This step is just like in a paper when you gather the info for the bulk of your paper, such as choosing the topic of the paper. • 27. Aseptic Techniques Asepsis can be defined as the complete absence of bacteria, fungi, viruses or other microorganisms that could cause disease. Aseptic techniques refer to a set of skills that are used to ensure any environment being examined or dressed remains free from micro–organisms by not directly touching the wound or any other surface that might come into contact with the wound (McFerran and Martin 2008). Sterilization techniques and effective hand washing technique also play a major role in maintaining aseptic conditions. Aseptic techniques may be adopted in a number of environments including surgery, community and ward based nursing. There are many procedures which require asepsis such as inserting a catheter, suturing a wound (Aziz 2009) or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Depending on the type of wound this may include debridement, swabbing or using fluids to remove debris and necrotic tissue. Some patients may even prefer to shower their wounds with tap water. This should be discussed with the nurse as a preferred and more suitable method for irrigation, as swabbing may damage fragile granulation tissue (Briggs 2008) as cited by Griffiths et al (2001). Once the wound has been cleansed a new dressing appropriate for the type of wound should be applied as quickly as possible to minimise airborne contamination (Pegram and Bloomfield 2010). All equipment used in the procedure should be put in the waste bag provided and disposed of in an appropriate bin. The ANTT may be used by nurses when they are cleansing wounds or changing dressings. Wounds healing by primary or secondary intention should be approached in the same manner whether the wound is open or closed ensuring asepsis throughout. A solution that is non–toxic to the tissue is used to remove debris, wound exudates and metabolic wastes, these processes are used to cleanse the wound and help to promote wound healing (Briggs 2008). The ANTT should be adopted when attending to surgical site wounds, pressure ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, leg ulcers and less superficial wounds such as skin tears and scrapes where the integrity of the skin has been breached or compromised ... Sterile vs. Clean technique As it was well stated by Barber et al (3) it may be difficult to determine whether to use a clean technique or a sterile technique when dealing with the different types of wound one encounters. As mentioned in the same article, it is important to consider the policies of the hospital. The the type of wound, bone exposure and an immunosuppressed state would also require sterile technique. Research has been done in order to determine which technique to use. The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) has emitted guidelines regarding that clean procedure should be used in the context of pressure ulcers. On the other hand, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advise for use of sterile technique when dealing with surgical wounds. The CDC also has provided healthcare workers with guidelines up to 48 hours after wound closure and not for longer periods of time. The Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society 's fact sheet (4) has brought some definitions and recommendations with regards to clean or sterile techniques to be used in wound care. Furthermore, the setting is a fundamental literary device which forms the main theme and gives meaning to "The Visit". This is because the setting paves out the environment and situation in which Guellen is in from the beginning of the book. All throughout Act 1 the reader is given the idea of how poor Guellen is and everyone is so humble and local. For example, how the train no longer stops in Guellen, how people only buy cheap local brands at the shop and not imported, how they accept Ill as dead for Claire's one million, how Ill is the most popular personality. These examples all show how the town functions, and how they are desperate for money and are willing to commit a moral crime in order to receive this money. The setting in the "The Visit" gives meaning to the play because it fundaments how and why Guellen is the way it is and allows the reader to understand the specific effects Guellen's history plays in the decision making, once Claire offers the one million pounds. • 37. What are Aseptic Techniques? Introduction Aseptic techniques were practised by microbiologists in order to eliminate unwanted microorganisms in their working environment, protecting those microbiologists from the potential pathogenic microorganisms and preventing the contaminations of microorganisms to the working environment (Henretig & King, 2008). One of the ways for practising of aseptic technique is the sterilization of lab equipment such as glassware; liquids such as diluents can be sterilize using the autoclave machine, which using moist heat or saturated steam for sterilization (Henretig & King, 2008). The moist heat autoclave machine uses steam as an agent of sterilization. It is ideal for the elimination of bacterial spores than using dry heat. The bacterial spores of bacillus stearothermophilus using in this experiment is a thermophilic bacterium in which it's range of optimum temperature of 55–60°C; when the autoclave machine was set to a temperature of 121°C, pressure of 101kPa and it was operated for 15 minutes . Thus, the bacterial spores can be destroyed and eliminated in such conditions in the autoclave machine (Parija, 2009). The complete sterilization can be achieved if the parameters of the autoclave were followed. During the autoclaving process, bacteria were exposed to high temperature generated by the autoclave machine, high pressure was produced in order to produce a high saturated steam. The steam produced is expanded by the water volume of 785 times, thus a little volume of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Reflection of the Aseptic Technique Essay During my community placement I was given many opportunities to dress wounds, replace catheters and attend to PEG's, all of which are done using the 'Aseptic Technique'. For procedures such as pressure sores, leg ulcers, simple grazes' removing drains or sutures, the 'clean technique' is used which is a modified aseptic technique and aims to avoid introducing micro organisms to a susceptible site and also to prevent cross contamination to patients and staff, it differs from an aseptic technique, as the use of sterile equipment and the environment are not as crucial as would be required for asepsis (Gough 2009). The Aseptic technique is one of a number of procedures that contributes to preventing Health Care Associated Infections (HCAI) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are a number of problems for community nurses, such as maintain a sterile field, being a lone practioner, no dressing trolley and limited access to single–use sterile items. To some extent contamination of the sterile field arises from a break in the aseptic procedure to perform wound cleansing either because of the use of tap water or because irrigation systems such as pods or aerosol canisters are not sterile on the outside (although the fluid it contains is sterile). The other major constraint relates to having to place the sterile field on furniture within a patient's home rather than on a clean trolley as it would be rather difficult for nurses to carry trolleys around in their cars. There are a couple of things which are done to reduce the risk of contamination of the sterile field. Firstly the sterile field is placed at a height which would prevent contamination of the field from skin scales and fibres while changing a dressing and the sterile field should be ideally be placed on a clean table, ensuring that the sterile packs are fit for purpose as Unsworth (2010) clearly states that it is common for manufacturers to incorporate items in to the packs which should be available to the nurse prior to opening the pack as packs contain aprons and gloves may appear to ... A Brief Note On The Integrated Lab Class Harish Singh Pharm 858 Journal Reflection #3 In the first week of the Integrated Lab class focused on becoming familiar with HER during which we learned how to navigate and access important patient information. EHR is utilized by all healthcare professionals to document all therapeutic interventions. Documenting everything efficiently and accurately ultimately leads to better patient care. I believe by being accustomed to using and documenting in an EHR, pharmacy students can be better prepared when transitioning to their APPE rotations. The second few weeks we spent time learning drug information research techniques, Aminoglycoside dosing, abbreviated SOAP notes and vital skills Lab. In drug information research, we were taught how to respond appropriately to a drug related question posed by a health care professional. There was a class review of the appropriate resources to utilize while formulating a response to the inquiry. Appropriate citing methods were also highlighted during that session. Suinn, of Colorado State University, titled "Clinical Practice, University Research, and Students: A Historical Perspective on Anxiety Management Training" from The American Psychologist, Suinn discusses the history and application of Anxiety Management Training, AMT. He first explains his development of AMT through is many years of educating at various universities. Suinn first talks how he first "examined how anxiety influenced the relationship between self–acceptance and acceptance of others and the association between anxiety and identification" at Whitman College. (Suinn, 1995, p. 287) After many years of research he along with one of his student, Hunter Hill, they found "that anxiety disrupts the trend for self–perceptions to color evaluations of others and is significantly associated with low self–esteem." (Suinn, 1995, p. 287) While at Whitman he also conducted research with another student, Tom Smith, where they hypothesized that is a correlation between high identification and low anxiety. However, this hypothesis was proven to be wrong and they found no relationship between the two. Suinn, then talks about his time at the University of Hawaii. Here, along with some of his students, investigated if group desensitization or individual desensitization was more effective. It was found that they were both equally affected, even more so they discovered that a briefer approach was just as successful as a longer approach when reducing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of ' The Pearls On A String ' Out of all the amazing things I saw in the Pearls on a String, the one that I found the most interesting was Akbar and 'Abd al–Rahim, from the Akabarmana (Book of Akabr, 1586–1589). It is amazing to see how many different scenes can all occur in one piece. Overall, The Book of Akbar had multiple outstanding pieces but the emotion in this particular page is what caught my attention. Although I did not study the other pages as intensely as this one, it is clear to see that Abul Fazlt's technique is spectacular throughout each and every page. This painting is historical, depicting a young Abdul Rahim Khan–I–Khana being received by Akbar after his family was killed. This page functions as a devotional image in order to display the emotional trauma 'Abd al–Rahim must have felt having all that he knew dragged from under him. This occurrence after royal bloodshed subsequently sets a mood for the piece. Some of the painting is hard to depict, due to some men appearing respectful and embracing while others appeared with contempt. This page is taller than wide with a beautiful background paper designs. The placement of the piece is harmonious in every way possible. Analysis of Characters, Conflict, and Symbolism in "A Good Man Is hard to Find" The story "A Good Man is Hard to Find" is a fascinating story about a family traveling to Florida for a family vacation. The story's main characters are the grandmother, the mother and a baby, the father Bailey, and the two children June Star and John Wesley. On this trip the family has a run in with the other characters The Misfit, Bobby Lee, and Hiram who are escaped convicts headed towards Florida. The story seems to imply how the modern man becomes spiritual when faced with evil. The grandmother seems to be unconcerned with the rest of her family: "'I know you wouldn't shoot a lady!'"(441). She thinks she is a "lady" she shouldn't be shot. The grandmother is self–centered; she did not even beg for the life of anyone in her family but her own. She is always the first to criticize everyone but never looks at herself in a critical manner. The conflicts in this story highlight the character's nature. The main fiction element in O'Connor's "A Good Man Is Hard to Find" is symbolism. Most of the Symbolism in this story is masked behind a lot of foreshadowing: "They passed a large cotton field with five or six graves fenced in the middle of it, like a small island" (371). The number of graves foreshadows the death of each family member. Five or six represents the uncertainty of whether at least one member of the family will survive or not. After the accident the family waits for someone to come help them, ironically The Misfit, Bobby Lee, and Hiram pull up in "a big black battered hearse–like automobile"(375). The Hearse by definition is a vehicle that carries a coffin to a funeral. Studying the rabbinic approach can add to the understanding of Genesis 11:1–9 because rabbis compare texts to other texts in the Tanakh or verses of a text. They look for the similarities to help us interpret the story. This makes us compare characters or words said throughout the story. This helps us understand the text better. For example, the rabbinic approach compares Genesis 11:4 with Genesis 11:2. the people built the tower to show independence from G!d and show they didn't need g!d anymore. The rabbinic approach gets this interpretation from Genesis 11:3. This relates to Genesis 4 "Come let us build for ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the skies." They wanted to build the tower themselves to how independence as the rabbinic approach points out. They thought that they didn't need G!D anymore and building this successfully would prove that. But they did need G!d everyone needs G!D. The rabbinic approach says Building the tower to show independence is bad because they didn't any longer worship and except g!D. Everyone needs G!d and the fact that they thought they didn't need G!D was bad because he is above us. This part of the rabbinic approach will help us understand the story because it is a very helpful fact to know in understanding the text when it. The lesson this part of the rabbinic approach teaches us to be loyal and respect G!d as our G!D. In addition, we should ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 63. I Have A Good Idea Of My Stress When it comes to wellness issues, I have always struggled the most with stress. I have always been more prone to become stressed, due to my anxiety. Therefore, stress is a big obstacle in my life, and it is something that I need to find a way to deal with, especially now that I have begun to attend college. Because I have dealt with anxiety before, I have a good idea of my stress level. My stress levels can become very high, and as a result, I have several ways of dealing with stress. As a result, I am familiar with some of the techniques mentioned in the textbook. For example, exercising has always been an effective stress technique for me. As mentioned in the textbook, performing exercises such as running and walking on a regular basis has been an effective way for me to reduce stress. However, the textbook has also introduced me to new techniques to help manage my stress, as well as ways to improve techniques I already use. One of these new techniques is eating healthy. Prior to reading the text, I never considered that my eating habits would affect my stress levels. However, after reading through the text, I can definitely see how my eating habits and stress levels affect each other. After evaluating my eating habits, I noticed that I do not eat healthy when I am stressed. When I become stressed or have an important event coming up, such having a test or a paper due, I tend to skip meals like breakfast and lunch, and instead eat smaller snacks of foods such as candy ... • 65. Criminal Investigators and Interrogations-Interviews To find the truth in any interview/interrogation it takes a skilled and qualified investigator. Criminal Investigators continue to learn every day. They find new techniques to approach an interview/interrogation, they learn new ways to talk to people, and the success of their interviews/interrogations depends on their ability to take what they learn and apply it. In order to develop great interview and interrogation skills, one must be able to communicate well verbally and non–verbally, be able to read body language, and know the facts of their case to be able to ask the right questions. To be a successful Criminal Investigator, one needs to have great interrogation/interview skills. During interviews/interrogations a Criminal Investigator needs to listen and observe. Listening to verbal behavior helps the investigator determine whether or not the individual is speaking the truth or lying. When an investigator asks questions, it is crucial for them to watch how the individual reacts to those questions. According to John Reid Associates, there are cues to look for and listen for when conducting an interrogation/interview. Some cues are clearing of the throat, deep breathing/sighing, and nervous laughing. During interviews/interrogations, Criminal Investigators need to be able to read body language. Body language is a key factor in determining if an individual is lying. When an individual is lying they show signs indicating the question that was asked sparked an ... • 67. Microcapsules Essay Layer–by–Layer Approach for Making Microcapsules Muhammad Faiz Omar (201308264) 4th December 2014 Abstract The fabrication of hollow multilayer microcapsules in the beginning is initiated by layer–by–layer (LbL) self–assembly technique of oppositely charged polyelectrolyte on colloidal template followed by core decomposition. The main concept of microencapsulation is to protect the contents of fabricated microcapsules from the harmful environment in which it is surrounded. In this literature review, I shall outline the technique of microcapsules encapsulation employing LbL approach, lists of polyelectrolytes and templates and application of microcapsules. Introduction Over the past decades, nanometre–sized or known as microcapsules have been benefited the approach of Layer–by–Layer(LbL) technique due to the ability of tailoring their properties(e.g., size , shape, colloidal stability, surface–functionality, composition) that are biocompatible and biodegradable.1–3,10They are broadly used in many applications including food technologies, cosmetics, textiles industry and pharmaceuticals. The LBL assembly of multilayers are fundamentally built up by the alternating deposition of oppositely charged polyelectrolytes onto a sacrificial template such that the charge oscillates between positive and negative with each layer.1,4 The establishment of nanocoatings using LbL assembly method distinguishes itself in its intelligibility compared to the more conventional method. • 69. Surprised by Joy and William Blake’s poem, The Sick Rose... William Wordsworth's poem titled "Surprised by Joy" and William Blake's poem, "The Sick Rose" employs a range of poetic techniques to highlight the pain that love can create. On the other hand, John Clare's poem titled "First Love" and Robert Burns's poem, "A Red, Red Rose" contrastingly explore the theme of love as a positive to be celebrated. William Wordsworth's poem titled "Surprised by Joy" is a sonnet which uses simile, personification, metaphor, emotive language and a question to highlight the pain love can create. The poet uses the simile "impatient as the wind" to emphasize the fact that life is like the wind, it comes and goes as it pleases. In this case, the "wind" is used as a symbol for 'life'. "Silent tomb" is a personification which shows that his love, being his daughter, is dead and cannot respond to him. The metaphor "have I been so beguiled as to be blind" is used to highlight the grief and pain his daughter's death has caused him. "Grievous love" is an emotive language which is used to show how much heartache and misery love can bring us when it is lost. The question "how could I forget thee?" is used in this poem to stress the importance of his memories of his deceased daughter which being the only thing that he has of her. The poet successfully expresses his opinion on how much pain love can create through his use of various poetic techniques. Similarly, William Blake's poem, "The Sick Rose" uses personification, symbolism, oxymoron and rhyme to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 73. Evoking Freedom Study The Effects of "Evoking Freedom" Technique on Compliance Social influence and the power of social situations have always been central topics of inquiry for psychologists due to their impact on our everyday lives. Social influence refers to the ways in which people alter their attitudes, emotions, and behaviors of others. Every day, we encounter countless attempts by other people to influence us. Likewise, we try to influence others. Compliance is a kind of social influence in which an individual modifies his or her behavior in response to an appeal made by another person. Many studies have investigated effective means of increasing compliance rates. Gueguen, Silone, David, and Pascual (2015) were interested in exploring the effects of the ... If we had seen these effects, it would have also meant that we support the idea that when one is given the freedom to accept or refuse a request, he or she will be more likely to comply even with a request that is costlier for that ... • 75. reflection on aseptic technique Essay Reflective Log – Aseptic Technique In this reflection I am going to discuss a procedure that I have carried out whilst I have been on placement and the importance of infection control using the Aspetic Non Touch Technique (ANTT). The procedure I am going to discuss is a dressing change to a leg ulcer which took place during a routine home visit with the community nurse. I am going to use Gibbs Model of Reflection (1988), to reflect on the experience and evaluate my thoughts and feelings of the procedure, and to outline what I have gained from the experience for my future practice. After observing my mentor and other nurses performing various dressing changes using the Aseptic Non Touch technique (ANTT), and practicing the procedure ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once the dressings were securely on and the procedure had been finished, I removed my apron and gloves and disposed of them in the plastic bag, along with everything thing else I had used and then washed my hands again. After leaving the patients home I discussed my practical experience with the Nurse who informed me that I although I had carried out the procedure well it was actually carried out using a clinically clean technique rather than the Aseptic Non Touch Technique as I had thought. As I had used the same gloves to remove the dirty dressings from the leg ulcer and then apply new sterile dressings I had not maintained the Aseptic Non Touch Technique. The Nurse informed me that this was perfectly suitable for the procedure I carried out as the wound was still kept as clean as possible and dressings and equipment used were sterile. Whilst carrying out the procedure I felt confident with my practice of the dressing change using the Aseptic technique. Although I was slightly nervous and self–conscious as I was aware that the trained Nurse was observing me, I felt that this did not come across in my body language or my practice. When the Nurse told me that I was not using the Aseptic Non Touch Technique I felt unsure of the whole process which then led to me re–evaluating my practice within this area. • 77.
