A Survey Report On Uber
Uber was founded to fill a need to get people where they need to be, without using a traditional taxi
service. "To passengers, Uber is essentially synonymous with taxis, and to drivers, it's basically a
referral service." (Time, 2014) Uber is owned by Travis Kalanick, who co–founded the business in
2009 with Garrett Camp, originally known as Ubercab.) Anyone needing local transportation can
request a ride through their application, available on iOS, Windows, and Android devices, which
sends the request to all drivers in the area. An available driver claims the job, then use their personal
vehicle to transport the customer. Upon completion, the driver and passenger complete a survey
detailing the job. Currently, Uber operates in 58 countries, and 300 cities worldwide, almost
guaranteeing that there is a driver available near you. At the end of 2014, Uber had over 160,000
drivers, acting as private contractors for the company. The company was designed to be, basically, a
head for many contractors to operate under, taking a percentage of the money made by the
contractors. However, this design was flawed from the beginning, because the service design failed
to account for the greed of people. There is quite a difference between employees and contractors in
regards to employment law. This includes benefits that a company must provide for employees, such
as workmen's compensation and FMLA that it is not required to provide for private contractors. In a

Introduction
On 25 June 1950, North Korea forces launched a surprise invasion on South Korea under the
command of Kim Il–sung and the North Korean People's Army. During this time, the North Korean
People's Army forced through the 38th parallel and pushed through the unprepared Republic of
Korea forces to the Southeast Pusan peninsula. The approximately 125 mile defensive perimeter was
where United Nation forces withdrew to by August, 1950 and held that Southeast position of the
peninsula. While UN forces were outnumbered, commanders were in search for a new course of
action that would help skew the war in favor of them. It was then General of the Army Douglas
MacArthur first envisioned his plan for what would become the Battle of Inchon. Inchon is located
in the Northwestern corner of modern South Korea and was a key location for the North Korean
forces. Inchon, located just 25 miles west of the nation's capital, Seoul, was a key location for North
Korean resupplies . Friendly intelligence and air reconnaissance observed that there were two major
supply lines that were along the two major highways coming from both the northeast and northwest.
It was through these two major supply lines that North Korean forces were able to then disseminate
supplies throughout the South Korean peninsula and ultimately down to the Pusan area in the
southeast corner. Because Inchon

Gen Macarthur Leadership Traits
The leader during the Battle of Inchon is easily identified by the success of Gen MacArthur, and his
boldness in not letting Operation Chromite ail to persist in an endeavor or undertaking from his
peers or even the President. Douglas MacArthur served his county for 52 years, meaning he was not
raised in an Army of his generation, but of those of the past. He was trained as a Cadet at the United
States Military Academy, West Point. He was first in his class to graduate in 1903. His leadership
style compares to that of his father Major General Arthur MacArthur Jr. GEN MacArthur was just
not successful and effective during the Korean War; this was who he was as a leader in battle.

The Allied Force Operational Level Joint Functions During...
Following their success in North Africa, the Allied decision to invade Sicily was an appropriate next
step towards defeating Axis powers. Operation HUSKY, the first phase of the Italian campaign,
supported the Allied strategic goals of opening Mediterranean shipping lanes, diverting German
forces off of the Eastern front and encouraging Italy to exit the Axis. HUSKY resulted in Allied
Forces securing the island, despite leadership failures and the ineffective coordination of joint
functions at the operational level. A two part analysis of the Allied Force operational level joint
functions during Operation HUSKY follows. The first will evaluate the joint function of command
and control using the three attributes of mission command from joint doctrine: commander's intent,
mutual trust, and understanding. The second will evaluate the integration of two of the remaining
joint functions using the definition of integration from joint doctrine. The Joint Force Commander
(JFC) utilizes command and control to exercise authority over assigned and attached forces within
his or her command. Command provides direction and motivation to individuals and units, whereas
control is the task of managing forces and the associated tasks required to accomplish the mission.
Effective command and control successfully balances the art of command with the science of
control and strengthens the commander's ability to make and execute decisions. Mission command

The North Korean People 's Army
At 4:00am on June 25, 1950, the North Korean People's Army (NKPA) crossed the 38th parallel in
force and invaded South Korea with the objective of unifying the two Koreas into a single
communist nation. General Douglas MacArthur would once again prove his value as a military
commander with his conception of Operation Chromite, which directed how the UN forces would
respond. MacArthur's unique gift in recognizing strategic opportunities, along with America's ability
to quickly gather military assets and counter in force, were key to the success of the Operation
Chromite landings at Inchon and turning the tide of the Korean War.
From the moment their invasion began, NKPA experienced success against the UN forces, led by the
United States and sent in to assist the South Korean Army. However, UN troops, all of which were
now under the command of General MacArthur, were literally overwhelmed at the onslaught of the
well–equipped and experienced NKPA. By the end of July, UN forces had been driven into a small
area in the southeast portion of the Korean Pennisula around the Port of Pusan (present day Busan).
With the NKPA at their front, and the Sea of Japan at their back, UN forces were in dire straight and
running out of options. Only the visionary mind of General MacArthur conceptualizing and
executing Operation Chromite could avoid a military disaster and save South Korea.
Although the NKPA appeared in control of the conflict, MacArthur recognized the strain placed on

U.s. Military 's Security
The 21st century came accompanied by different worldwide security's challenges. In this complex
environment the U.S. must be able to use efficiently all instruments of power to defend the national
interests. Now than ever the U.S. military power must be prepared to defeat the enemy using air,
land, and sea. Thus, the transition of troops from the sea to the shore will remain an essential way to
achieve a position of advantage over the forces hostile to U.S. interests. Frequent concerns of other
countries related to improvement of anti–amphibious and amphibious operations highlight the
importance of these kind of warfare in the future conflicts. Today's concern is not about the
possession of amphibious capabilities, but about the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Finally, the Marines Corps effort to improve amphibious capabilities instead to be seen as a way to
develop the U.S. ability to project power, it is seen as another method to preserve the service 's
relevance.
At the same time, the request of American citizens for "zero casualties" is playing its separate role in
the detriment of amphibious warfare. The history of 20th century showed that amphibious assault is
typically a very difficult and risky operation, it is governed by a violent character that bring a high
casualties rate. Moreover, in our day, when achievement of surprise during landing is almost
impossible due to enemy 's intelligence capabilities, and when enemy has sophisticated weapon
systems, to go ashore became much more dangerous. The fear of commanders for potential
personnel and equipment loses conditions the exclusion of amphibious operations from the list of
preferable options.
Another factor that has affected the development of amphibious operations is the reduction of
defense budget. The Marine Corps along with other services has managed the reduction in funding
by cutting capacities. Many procurement programs, capabilities, and force structures were under
severe examination. The fiscally restrained environment associated with the questioned relevance of
amphibious operations hit severely amphibious forces that are

A Brief Look at Igor Sikorsky
Igor Sikorsky widened the field of aviation throughout his life with inventions that caught the
interest of the world. In the early 1920's, after successfully building a four–engine biplane, Sikorsky
began his work on amphibian aircraft. The aircraft proved to be versatile with its ability to take off
and land on an airstrip or in the water. Sikorsky increased the size and maximum range of his
designs until producing the S–42 Flying Clipper. His line of amphibian planes became the precursor
to commercial transoceanic flight. He played an important role in both the introduction of
amphibian aircraft and its transition into commercial aviation. Sikorsky also contributed heavily to
the development of the helicopter and research of rotary flight design. His design concept that had
one main lifting rotor in combination with a smaller rotor to counteract torque is still used in modern
helicopters. The helicopters maneuverability and ability to lift off vertically allowed it to fly into and
out of terrain not fit for normal aircraft. He designed the R–4 which became widely produced and
utilized by the military mainly for delivery of supplies and search and rescue. The company he
began in New York, now called Sikorsky Aircraft, produced the S–70 Black Hawk helicopter in
response to the Army's need for a durable transport helicopter in 1972. Sikorsky Aircraft
manufactured over 900 aircraft for the Army by the end of 1989 and a family of helicopters spawned

The Army And Marine Corps
Sun Tzu's military acumen resonates in the current discussion of the Marine Corps' preparedness to
conduct forcible entry. The Army and Marine Corps saw significant successes utilizing forcible
entry and amphibious operations in the Pacific during WWII and the Korean War. The landing at
Inchon was "arguably the Corps' greatest amphibious success" (Cancian, "Preserving Amphibious
Capabilities in a Time of Austerity, 2012). Led by General MacArthur, Inchon remains the legacy by
which future amphibious operations are compared against. However, it is important to recognize that
in the past 60+ years since Inchon, the modern militarization of both state and non–state adversaries
has transformed the battlespace to utilize warfare across multiple domains. This transformation
requires a forthright Sun Tzu–like comparison of Marine Corps capabilities, and the perspicacity to
recognize that our current posture along with a traditional approach to amphibious warfare is no
longer effective at countering our enemies. Given the challenges that exist across the domains of
military operations, this paper will demonstrate how based on the current concepts and amphibious
capabilities, the U.S. Marine Corps is less prepared to conduct forcible entry operations than we
were during the landing at Inchon, and subsequent liberation of Seoul. The transformation in
military thought towards employment of forces across multi–domain operations battlespace is based

The Effects Of Cars On The Current World
Majority of the world's population can't even stand a world without cars; I boldly support that t;
development of automobiles has really influenced the world positively. Whether some people love
or hate vehicles, a fact that we have to admit is that vehicles play a major role in our lives and it has
influenced the world positively. However, there are negative effects of motor vehicles that I ca
refute, but generally the positive impacts outweigh the negative effects of automobiles in the current
world (Erjavec, 2013). Development of vehicles has entirely changed our perception about the
world and shaped the manner in which we imagine things, the world is like a global village to all of
us and all the credit goes to the early inventors and those who came with the idea of motor vehicle
development. Development of vehicles has changed some of the human cultures and behaviors, we
even have books, articles and documentaries about the automobile inventions and all these are
evidence of on how we cherish vehicles because they have truly helped us and they are still helping
us. Songs, poems and several movies have been acted about the development of vehicles, the fast
and furious episodes of movies uses cars to race, and if we analyze the movie well we realize they
tend to showcase different types of cars, engine capacity and their speed. Motor vehicles are the
backbone of other forms of transport, without motor vehicle we can't have air, rail and water
transport. For

Synthesis Essay – General Douglas MacArthur

Air Force Senior Noncommissioned Officer Academy
GENERAL DOUGLAS MACARTHUR
Often times when people talk about General Douglas MacArthur, they tend to think of a great
military leader of the World War Two (WWII) or the Korean War. General MacArthur once said, "A
true leader has the confidence to stand alone, the courage to make tough decisions, and the
compassion to listen to the needs of others. He does not set out to be a leader, but becomes one by
the equality of his actions and the integrity of his intent." General Douglas MacArthur, also known
as Mac, was a Visionary Leader that not only shaped the outcome of the Korean War but Japan as
well. However, he was not the most Ethical Leader to serve in the United States Military, which led
to him being relieved of duty by President Truman in 1951. In this paper we will review not just
how he was a visionary but at times unethical and how I relate those leadership traits to my own.
VISIONARY LEADERSHIP
General MacArthur was truly a visionary leader. He had the ability to see what needed to be done
and set plans for accomplishing it. One week after the start of the Korean War General MacArthur
had his Chief of Staff start considering an amphibious assault to take out communication in Seoul
("Concepts:," n.d.). Before Mac was able to get approval and conduct his operation he had to
overcome strong objections to his desired incursion site

The Pros And Cons Of Helm Warfare
Some people deem amphibious warfare to be a way of the past never to be seen again in modern
warfare. Large scale amphibious warfare has not been utilized by the US in decades. Most of the
ingress and egress that has occurred in recent conflict was conducted by aviation platforms. As an
expeditionary naval force one of the core capabilities of the United States Marine Corps is
amphibious warfare. Because of the Marine Corps stake in amphibious warfare, the relevancy of the
organization has been questioned. Although the US has not utilized large scale amphibious
operations in decades, the relevancy of the Marine Corps will remain concrete through 2030 and
beyond based on the possibility of amphibious operations and the proven competency of ... Show

capabilities and doctrine. The sea based MAGTF is capable of deploying Marines rapidly to conduct
amphibious operations and destroy any and all enemy forces ashore. There are two ways that that
Marine Corps ensures that it meets these strategic requirements. One is to have the capacity to
support joint forcible entry operations. The second is the availability for security cooperation,
presence, and crisis response forces. The Marine Corps continuously evaluates this capacity and
availability based on the minimum force of operationally available amphibious ships. The Marine

Summary Of Operation Simultaneity
(1) Simultaneity: The most significant use of simultaneity during Operation CHROMITE is the
simultaneous attack in the north and south. The amphibious forces landed at Inchon and moved
inland toward Seoul, Eighth Army at Pusan launched a supporting attack against the more than 12
enemy divisions. This was truly a joint effort as elements from all four services were utilized in both
the north and south. (2) Depth: This was achieved by combing several schemes of attacks. In
conjunction with this, they used close air support to provide depth into the enemy's area and
additional demands on his forces. Lastly, they initiated an Information Operation (IO) campaign
against the enemy by dropping tens of thousands of psychological warfare leaflets

Essay On Marine Corps Footprint
With the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq coming to a close, the Marine Corps has found itself reverting
back to its maritime traditions. As the Marine Corps footprint continues to shrink in Iraq and
Afghanistan, Marines will find themselves aboard ships once again and serving their primary role as
the Nation's force in readiness. This leaves many questioning what the Marine Corps' future role in
irregular warfare will be. In the words of former Commandant General James T. Conway, "We must
be a two fisted fighter – able to destroy our enemy formations with our scalable air–ground–logistics
teams in major contingencies, but equally able to employ our hard earned irregular warfare skills
hones over decades of conflict" (Conway). It is not yet time for the Marine Corps to hang up those
boots! The Marine Corps can and will continue to serve as a key component of irregular warfare as
it will continue to train and improve irregular warfare tactics to aid those nations with struggling
governments from being overtaken by insurgencies/terrorist groups. As displayed during the

He also ordered that the 6th Marines would serve as a reserve force, which would leave the 2nd and

traditional Marine Corps fighting doctrine. The traditional doctrine called for a 3–1 superiority in
order to have a successful amphibious landing and Holland Smith's plan only had 2–1 superiority
over the enemy. After proposing such a plan, Holland Smith was put in charge of the frontal charge
that would be carried out in Tarawa. With this command, he proceeded to request the need for 100
more amtracs on top of 75 troop carrying amtracs that the 2nd Division Marines already had. This
request did not go over well with the commander of the South Pacific Amphibious Force, Admiral

vehicles they already possessed would be sufficient based on the tides. The stubborn man General

Conduct Forcible Entry Operations During The Korean War Essay
The current amphibious concepts and capabilities of the US ensure that we are better prepared to
conduct forcible entry operations than we were during the landing at Inchon, and subsequent
liberation of Seoul. Amphibious concepts, such as seabasing, amphibious command and control
(C2), and the Expeditionary Strike Group (ESG) allow forces to project power across domains.
Proof of concept exercises like Bold Alligator continue to refine our amphibious capability to
provide flexible, scalable, responsive forces that can conduct a multitude of missions. Inchon,
during the Korean War, highlights the benefit of maneuver warfare and joint operations. However,
security operations, intelligence, and speed were deficient during Operation CHROMITE. World
War II demonstrated a lack of preparedness to conduct amphibious operations in the Pacific by the
US and Great Britain. The Pacific Campaign and Inchon prove the need to maintain a professional
amphibious force and the importance of concepts like seabasing, C2, and the ESG in amphibious
operations. Applying the concepts of seabasing, C2, and the ESG in joint exercises with platforms
such as Maritime Prepositioning Force, multipurpose amphibious assault ships (LHD), Landing
Craft Air Cushion (LCAC), AV–8B Vertical/Short Take–Off and Landing (VSTOL) jets, and MV–22
tilt rotor aircraft ensure that we are better prepared to conduct forcible entry operations than we were

Landings Were Been Around Since The Revolutionary War
Amphibious landings have been around since the Revolutionary War. The main purpose has always
been for landings; in order, to position soldiers for an assault on a city. Amphibious assaults,
however, have never actually been executed until World War 1. During that time a need for a
thorough amphibious assault doctrine was not needed because amphibious landings were not carried
out to assault the enemy on the beachhead, and landings were usually met with little resistance. One
of the first and foremost amphibious assaults occurred during World War 1. This amphibious
operation is known as the Battle of Gallipoli, which ended as a major failure for the Australian and
New Zealand Coalition forces, or ANZAC forces. The Battle of Gallipoli ... Show more content on

The ANZAC had to control the Dardanelles by capturing the Gallipoli peninsula from Turkey, in
order to capture Constantinople and control the Strait of Bosporus. 2 However, the amphibious
assault on Gallipoli was a major disaster for the ANZAC and its allied forces. Many mistakes were
made because the ANZAC did not plan the amphibious assault well. The first mistake that was made
was that the ANZAC landing forces landed one mile north of the landing site. 3 This was a problem
because the landing force would have to change their course of direction, in order to get to the
correct landing site, which would waste precious time. This was also a problem because the
direction they were going to land at was an area with open cliffs rather than the open beach and
countryside that was intended. Further, the ANZAC forces did not adequately plan, how efficiently
they were too move off the beachhead, which poised as a potential kill zone. The initial problem was
that getting out of the landing crafts was problematic.4 The terrain under the shore posed a problem
for many soldiers getting off the beaches because it slowed them down. Many ANZAC soldiers
drowned or died disembarking their landing crafts. The ANZAC troops crowded the beaches, once
they landed. The ANZAC soldiers could not exit the beaches because not only were the beaches
chaotic with the amassed troops but also the maps that the ANZAC soldiers were outdated and were
utterly useless. In addition,

So the concept of sea based forward presence, capability to respond any crisis is essential to United
States. Capability of the amphibious operations has been significantly increased since Inchon
landing. As we mentioned above cutbacks of the Marine Corps and political situation that not
excepting large scale amphibious operations, instead of preparing large ground war in European
theater of war, capabilities of amphibious operations was inadequate. As we seen from the history of
Inchon landing, General MacArthur created force of 70000 marines, reserves and soldiers as well as
261 strong fleet of American and United Nations vessels. In nowadays, according to its forward
presence and crisis respond concept, United States have great capabilities to conduct amphibious
operations. After budget increases in 1980's, Marine Corps started their modernization plan of

Walcheren, a small Dutch island at the Western end of the Beveland Peninsula was the setting for
one of the most underrated but critical engagements of the second world war. The summer of 1944
had saw a series of almost unprecedented successes by allied forces in northwestern Europe. The
Normandy landings in June had been followed by the breakout from the beachhead and an advance
of some 300 miles eastward across France to the low countries. By early October the tempo of
operations had slackened. The attempt in September to jump the lower Rhine at Arnhem (Op
MARKET GARDEN) with airborne troops had failed. It looked as if the battlefront would remain
west of the Rhine for the winter and that the war would last well into 1945.
The key to the supply problems was the port of Antwerp, captured with its dock facilities only
slightly damaged in September 1944. It was 50 miles from the sea and could not be used by the
allied shipping until the heavily mined Scheldt estuary had been made safe, but the Allied eyes were
on the Rhine crossings at Arnhem, not the lower Scheldt. By mid October the allies held most of the
mainland forming the southern bank of the estuary, but the Germans still held the island of
Walcheren, which guarded the port entrance. It was a matter of urgency for the allies to use Antwerp
as the supply problem threatened the to curtail the allied plan of prosecuting the war on a wide front.
As winter weather might be expected to start anytime, the decision was

The North Africa Conflict
While analyzing the North Africa conflict, a combination of service capabilities would be required
to achieve the desired end state of deterring and if necessary, the defeat of Algerian guerilla
aggression to prevent regional and global destabilization. Taking into account the current military
landscape that exists today, a joint task force (JTF) would be the ideal military response of the
United States and collation partner's while utilizing the regional military assets. Intelligence
suggests guerilla forces are capable of a full scale offensive into Morocco in less than 36 hour
notice, bringing the factors of time, force and space into consideration. The United States Air Force
controls and operates numerous satellites for global positioning, missile warning, communication
and meteorological purposes along with reconnaissance aircraft. Through a combination of satellite
imagery and reconnaissance aircraft, identifying and collecting intelligence on guerilla military
targets and movements would be the first objective in the conflict. Once targets are identified,
bombing campaigns could commence from regional Air force bases in the Area of Operations (AO),
softening up guerilla forces in advance of the next stage of the military engagement, the ground
campaign. Air force tankers such as the HC–130, KC–135 and KC–10 would need to be deployed to
offer in flight air refueling for the F–15, F–16, F–22 and A–10's departing from regional Air force
bases. The Air Force also

American vs. Japanese Automobiles Essay
Getting a car is an intricate process as there are so many factors to consider. Factors that can be
daunting if proper research of the vehicle are not done. Everyone wants to make the most of what
they pay for and wants to make sure that his or her car is of the best quality. There are a quite few
makes of cars available with quality guaranteed but two of the major would be the American and
Japanese made cars. Both are excellent car builders and provide good fuel efficiency vehicles that
are cost efficient. However, there are some facts and details that can influence buyers to choose one
make over the other, this includes: performance, reliability, and resale value.
Some American made cars are not built with the elegance of the Japanese ... Show more content on

Japanese cars have the incentive of having an accelerated performance system that gives their cars
more power under the hood and therefore increases the speed. They tend to have a longer life span
and repairing them is just as equal with the American made cars.
When it comes to reliability, for some reason, American cars are known for being unreliable.
However, those who think that way probably live in the past. We know that American cars built 30–
40 years ago, do not usually reach the 200k–mile mark, while the Japanese cars were hitting 250–
300k. However, in this modern age, many of the American cars are reaching 200–250k miles easily.
Also, most companies have lemons and recalls. Like, the 2006 Ford Fusion has a strut leaking
problem and the 8th Gen Civic has a notorious tranny problem. Both American and Japanese cars
have problems but some people still rely on Japanese cars. They believe that these cars are still
reliable compared to the other one. That is the fact.
Resale values are determined by taking into consideration the equipment and options of a vehicle,
the mileage, the condition, and the geographic area where the vehicle has been driven. It also
pertains to what made and model of the vehicle is. Which is why many are aware that American cars
compared to Japanese cars have less resale value. Both are somehow having the same features and
specs however; Japanese cars tend to last longer because of its quality and how it is made.

Critical Reasoning And Battle Analysis
Critical Reasoning and Battle Analysis: The Battle of Inchon
SFC Anderson, Phillip
SLC Class 15–004, 5th Platoon
ABSTRACT
Intelligence gathering and collection in the United States has significantly increased over time. This
paper examines how intelligence reporting and pre–mission planning was crucial to the success of
the United Nations involvement at The Battle of Inchon during the Korean War. By examining how
intelligence played a role in this battle, you will be able to understand why it is important to gather
and collect intelligence prior to every mission executed. Intelligence collection should be the
baseline for all military operations. Inchon Landing has an ample amount of actionable intelligence;
collected and disseminated appropriately we will discuss how it played a role in a low probability
mission accomplishment to the last great amphibious assault in history. This paper provides detailed
explanations on why The Battle of Inchon was a success and what could have been the outcome had
it gone the other way.
Keywords: Inchon, mission planning, strategic preparation, valuable intelligence
THESIS STATEMENT
The landing at Inchon during the Korean War was a strategic turning point for the securing of the
southern Korean capital of Seoul. Had it not been for mission planning, strategic preparation, and
valuable intelligence gathering by the Army, Air Force, Marines, and Navy, the Battle of Inchon
would not have been a success. If

Perception Matters Analysis
Perception Matters An alliance known as the Coalition formed during the Napoleonic War period in
Europe to combat the rising French hegemony. Coalition forces consisted of the four of the many
major powers during this time period, Prussia, Russia, Austria, and Great Britain. Within this
alliance, each nation that was involved was committed to fighting a common enemy, put was
motivated to do so by different reasons. Of these reasons, one country, in particular, stood out
among the other countries involved, Great Britain . Great Britain was seen as a country motivated
only by self–interest and one who calls upon its allies to wage its wars. Author Michael Duffy
supports this assertion in his article titled "Britain as a European Ally, 1789–1842" when he quotes
Lord Grenville in stating, "We are represented as making war, and inciting all other nations to join

Gill. This chapter relates directly to the assertion made by Duffy in the fact that Britain was limited
to amphibious attack. To elaborate, when Gill states, "Great Britain would launch an amphibious
attack on Holland in late July..." this would be one of the first times he referenced such an attack.
Reason being is that the logic used in the book would fall in line with what Duffy stated in that such
an attack is costly and time–consuming. Therefore making such an attack rare. Duffy's main theme
of perception can also be found in this chapter when Gill finishes the above statement with, " but the
expedition, undertaken almost entirely for London's interests, turned into a fiasco and provided no
assistance to the Austrians." Within this quote, the perception of the Austrians is being taken because
this attack did not accomplish anything of value for

However, by their nature, periphery operations, especially in unlimited war, fail to attack the
enemy's center of gravity and therefore, usually fail to inflict "grave" damage to the enemy. In rare
cases where sufficient forces are available, such as the Allied invasion of NW Europe in WWII,
truly "grave" damage can be sufficiently inflicted. But this situation is not "usually" the case.
Employing amphibious forces also carries a significant risk that damage to one's own forces will be
disproportionate with that inflicted upon the enemy. The Spartan Hoplite invasion of Sphacteria
provides an extreme example where the invading force was isolated and destroyed. A similar
example is the British WWI invasion of Gallipoli. Although not completely destroyed, the invading
force was isolated on the beachhead and severely mauled. Requirements for troop replenishment and
resupply created a festering sore that drained Britain's war effort on a secondary front removed from
Germany, the primary enemy. Damage to the Turkish forces was not "grave" and was certainly out
of proportion with the cost in any case. The allied invasion at Anzio in WWII was another similar
example of disproportionate cost/benefit, at least in its initial stages. Finally, embarking upon an
amphibious invasion often means opening a second front. Such a move can have good or bad
strategic consequences that impact the relative value of any injury caused to the foe.

Admiral William F. Halsey in response to seeing the damage inflicted upon Pearl Harbor by the

Colonel Joseph H. Alexander, in his book Utmost Savagery describes he battle of Tarawa as a
gruesome seventy–six hour battle, "which took the lives of six thousand human beings in a space of
three hundred acres – the identical size occupied by the Pentagon building and its parking lots." The
battle began in the early morning of November 20, 1943, as the United States Invasion fleet lay off
the coast of Betio, the island projected to attack among the Tarawa Atoll. There were 18,000 marines
sent to the attack on Tarawa and this seemed to be a more than sufficient number to easily secure the
island. The United States forces encountered many problems though as they started storming the
island on November 20. As the U.S. landing crafts attempted to invade the beaches of Betio, the
tides were too low for a number of the heavier boats to freely navigate to shore. On the morning of
the attack, the tide level never reached the four feet above the reef that was necessary to allow
landing craft to land properly. Instead, the tide rose to at most one foot above the reef. The reefs that
surrounded the island were now acting as another defense force for the Japanese and the American
forces were significantly slowed in their attack. Many heavier landing crafts were only able to

Joint Operational Warfare
According to Milan Vego in, Joint Operational Warfare: Theory and Practice, he defined Operational
Art as, "a component of military art concerned with the theory and practice of planning, preparing,
conducting, and sustaining campaigns and major operations aimed at accomplishing strategic or
operational objectives in a given theater." (p. I–4) Even though I am not in the business of defining
the term Operational Art, I would still suggest amongst all of the various definitions that I have read
this one definition by Vego appears to be practicable and serves its purpose well. For any military
action, there must be planning, sustaining, executing of a mission such that theater objectives are
met. In other words, a belligerents Center of Gravity must be identified through means of military
and policy actions to obtain success.
This paper will explore the concept of technology, eliminating the operational art as one of the
intermediate components to military art with a focus on amphibious assault. It is not well ... Show

The United Kingdom put its defense under review and decided to reduce the money burden their
Royal Navy put on the British people (White paper, p. A–2). It was considered by their leadership
that smaller platforms of ships like destroyers and frigates could handle littoral combat if needed.
So, the United Kingdom decided to phase out the HMS Intrepid and the HMS Fearless (White
Paper, pp.10–11). This of course didn't work out well because the United Kingdom ended up going
to war with Argentina in 1982. Through insurmountable odds, the United Kingdom's Royal Navy,
was able to piece its navy back together and make ships ready for one of the best maritime

The Role Of Transportation And The Economic Health Of...
we may not yet be living in an age of flying cars, as predicted in the 1985 film Back To The Future
II, but the rise of smartphones and other new technologies is creating a reality that is arguably as
exciting and almost as far–fetched.
Experts agree that economic and demographic changes, technological advances and environmental
concerns are fundamentally altering the transportation landscape. "It's a very dynamic time," said
Robert Puentes, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution's Metropolitan Policy Program
thinktank. "There's a focus on a tighter connection between the role of transportation and the
economic health of cities and its impact on people."

"The most sustainable places to live are those places that have multi–modal transport systems,"
Puentes said. "You can't be a global competitive city if you don't have a robust transportation
network."
Here are three of the key trends that experts predict will shape the transportation industry over the
coming years.
Connectivity
The rise of ride–sharing services like Uber and Lyft – essentially taxis booked at the click of a
smartphone button – and apps like Waze, which uses real–time traffic data to find the quickest
routes for drivers, is dramatically changing how people get around, and affecting the very way in
which traffic moves through a city.
Communication between riders and drivers, between different vehicles and between cars and
infrastructure is bringing transportation into a new era, according to Allan Clelland, senior vice
president at Iteris, a company developing new transportation technology.
Google buys Waze map app for $1.3bn Read more
The impact of these new apps could be broad. For one thing, ride– and car sharing could facilitate a
drop in private car ownership, especially among young people, who tend to prefer using multiple
modes of transportation.
According to a recent study from the UCLA's Institute of Transportation Studies, vehicle travel has
declined among millennials – individuals born roughly between the early 1980s and early 2000s –
compared to previous

In 1943 the British and American Allies shared a common language and a common enemy, but they

British Prime Minister, wanted to fight in the edges of the Axis territory and exploit the soft

The compromise nature of strategic decision to conduct Operation Husky clouded commander's

They did not ensure close proximity between subordinate commands to support planning,

their own diverging commander's intent causing incomplete understanding which transformed
Husky into a competition between Allies instead of an opportunity to deliver a decisive blow to the
Axis by trapping the German and Italian Armies on Sicily, possibly changing the trajectory of the
war. (site) The biggest obstacle facing the Allies Joint Operations was the lack of trust among the
senior subordinate commanders. Based on his initial impression of the U.S. Army during Operation

Scuba Technology Has Made A Tremendous Difference
SCUBA technology has come a long way since its primitive beginnings. From the days of when
Alexander the Great ruled ancient Greece, to the current combat divers in modern military's around
the world, SCUBA technology has dramatically increased the effectiveness and capabilities of any
maritime force. Focusing on tactical applications, the development of new and improved units, as
well as looking at how training has developed over the years, we can see how SCUBA technology
has had such a significant and positive impact on the effectiveness of maritime warfare. To start,
SCUBA technology has made a tremendous difference on how the U.S. Military tactically employs
its soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines in combat and in peacetime situations. The tactical
applications used by the U.S. Military have developed since the inception of the first underwater
divers during the middle of the nineteenth century. Back then, U.S. Navy Divers were limited
mainly to salvage and repair of ships, construction work, and some minor military operations in
their field of work. In today's world, U.S. Navy Divers are expected to "perform diving salvage
operations, participate in various construction and demolition projects, execute search and rescue
missions, support military and civilian law enforcement, serve as technical experts for numerous
special operations units, provide security, communications, and other logistics during expeditionary
warfare missions in the Navy. (Become a Navy Diver)"

strategic change was more critical to the development of contemporary international security than
the interwar period between World War II's end and the rapid communist advance across the 38th

How Technology Changed Cars Changed Over Time?
How has technology in cars evolved over time?
Technology in cars is important because cars are driven by all kinds of people throughout most of
their lives. People use their cars to travel near or far distances. You basically use your car to go
where ever you want, so wouldn't you want the technology in them to improve? There are three
main features when it comes to cars that I think are most important to consumers. Those features are
safety, performance, and comfort. All three of these come together to provide a better driving
experience.
Even though a balance of all of those things are important, some people look for different things

Later on in the early 1900's, the first steel body was invented. This was made for increased
durability and safety, and was also more efficient to use. In 1908 ford made the model T. It could be
purchased for a price of $825, which would roughly equal $8,000 dollars now. That's still considered
extremely cheap for a brand new car. Now a days to get a brand new car, you would need at least
around $13k, and that's for very low models. However, even having a car back then was an extreme
luxury. The model–T had a 4–cylinder engine which produced about 20hp and could hit a top speed
of 40mph. That is actually really fast for those days. Even though it's barely faster than a horse, it's
obviously more comfortable.
When it comes to transmission, the model T had a 3 speed. It was really 2 speeds, and one of the
gears was used for reverse. The model T was a real–wheel–drive vehicle, which means that the
engine sends all the power to the rear wheels using the drive shaft which connects to the rear axle.
This wasn't always the best because a lot of the weight was in front of the car due to the engine. This
means the rear wheels wouldn't always have the best traction if the road was wet. Nowadays there
are rear–wheel–drive cars with 50/50 weight distribution and different types of traction control to
prevent the rear wheels to lose traction.
The suspension for the Model–t allowed a great deal of wheel movement to cope with the dirt roads

Marine Corps Leadership Essay
From the birth of the Marine Corps Marines have found themselves operating in various
environments from North America to Asia. Days of fighting a clearly identified enemy in
conventional warfare have given way to adversaries using irregular weapons and tactics in irregular
warfare. Operating against irregular threats can pose many issues; to be successful, Marines must
apply leadership traits – specifically, Marines must be sure to develop their knowledge and
judgement. The remaining leadership traits can be used to bolster knowledge and judgement.
Irregular threats have proven themselves to be dynamic and complex. Marines will have to
recognize these dynamics and complexities in order to evaluate them and ultimately make sound
decisions. It is apparent that these threats are not going away anytime in the foreseeable future.
Leaders at various levels have recognized this and are drafting references to ensure success in

A Survey Report On Uber

  • 1. A Survey Report On Uber Uber was founded to fill a need to get people where they need to be, without using a traditional taxi service. "To passengers, Uber is essentially synonymous with taxis, and to drivers, it's basically a referral service." (Time, 2014) Uber is owned by Travis Kalanick, who co–founded the business in 2009 with Garrett Camp, originally known as Ubercab.) Anyone needing local transportation can request a ride through their application, available on iOS, Windows, and Android devices, which sends the request to all drivers in the area. An available driver claims the job, then use their personal vehicle to transport the customer. Upon completion, the driver and passenger complete a survey detailing the job. Currently, Uber operates in 58 countries, and 300 cities worldwide, almost guaranteeing that there is a driver available near you. At the end of 2014, Uber had over 160,000 drivers, acting as private contractors for the company. The company was designed to be, basically, a head for many contractors to operate under, taking a percentage of the money made by the contractors. However, this design was flawed from the beginning, because the service design failed to account for the greed of people. There is quite a difference between employees and contractors in regards to employment law. This includes benefits that a company must provide for employees, such as workmen's compensation and FMLA that it is not required to provide for private contractors. In a landmark case in ... • 3. The Battle Of Inchon Landing The Battle of Inchon Landing WO1 Ryan P. Hoover Warrant Officer Basic Course 02–14 CW3 DATE Introduction On 25 June 1950, North Korea forces launched a surprise invasion on South Korea under the command of Kim Il–sung and the North Korean People's Army. During this time, the North Korean People's Army forced through the 38th parallel and pushed through the unprepared Republic of Korea forces to the Southeast Pusan peninsula. The approximately 125 mile defensive perimeter was where United Nation forces withdrew to by August, 1950 and held that Southeast position of the peninsula. While UN forces were outnumbered, commanders were in search for a new course of action that would help skew the war in favor of them. It was then General of the Army Douglas MacArthur first envisioned his plan for what would become the Battle of Inchon. Inchon is located in the Northwestern corner of modern South Korea and was a key location for the North Korean forces. Inchon, located just 25 miles west of the nation's capital, Seoul, was a key location for North Korean resupplies . Friendly intelligence and air reconnaissance observed that there were two major supply lines that were along the two major highways coming from both the northeast and northwest. It was through these two major supply lines that North Korean forces were able to then disseminate supplies throughout the South Korean peninsula and ultimately down to the Pusan area in the southeast corner. Because Inchon ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Gen Macarthur Leadership Traits The leader during the Battle of Inchon is easily identified by the success of Gen MacArthur, and his boldness in not letting Operation Chromite ail to persist in an endeavor or undertaking from his peers or even the President. Douglas MacArthur served his county for 52 years, meaning he was not raised in an Army of his generation, but of those of the past. He was trained as a Cadet at the United States Military Academy, West Point. He was first in his class to graduate in 1903. His leadership style compares to that of his father Major General Arthur MacArthur Jr. GEN MacArthur was just not successful and effective during the Korean War; this was who he was as a leader in battle. • 7. The Allied Force Operational Level Joint Functions During... Following their success in North Africa, the Allied decision to invade Sicily was an appropriate next step towards defeating Axis powers. Operation HUSKY, the first phase of the Italian campaign, supported the Allied strategic goals of opening Mediterranean shipping lanes, diverting German forces off of the Eastern front and encouraging Italy to exit the Axis. HUSKY resulted in Allied Forces securing the island, despite leadership failures and the ineffective coordination of joint functions at the operational level. A two part analysis of the Allied Force operational level joint functions during Operation HUSKY follows. The first will evaluate the joint function of command and control using the three attributes of mission command from joint doctrine: commander's intent, mutual trust, and understanding. The second will evaluate the integration of two of the remaining joint functions using the definition of integration from joint doctrine. The Joint Force Commander (JFC) utilizes command and control to exercise authority over assigned and attached forces within his or her command. Command provides direction and motivation to individuals and units, whereas control is the task of managing forces and the associated tasks required to accomplish the mission. Effective command and control successfully balances the art of command with the science of control and strengthens the commander's ability to make and execute decisions. Mission command advances command and control ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. The North Korean People 's Army At 4:00am on June 25, 1950, the North Korean People's Army (NKPA) crossed the 38th parallel in force and invaded South Korea with the objective of unifying the two Koreas into a single communist nation. General Douglas MacArthur would once again prove his value as a military commander with his conception of Operation Chromite, which directed how the UN forces would respond. MacArthur's unique gift in recognizing strategic opportunities, along with America's ability to quickly gather military assets and counter in force, were key to the success of the Operation Chromite landings at Inchon and turning the tide of the Korean War. From the moment their invasion began, NKPA experienced success against the UN forces, led by the United States and sent in to assist the South Korean Army. However, UN troops, all of which were now under the command of General MacArthur, were literally overwhelmed at the onslaught of the well–equipped and experienced NKPA. By the end of July, UN forces had been driven into a small area in the southeast portion of the Korean Pennisula around the Port of Pusan (present day Busan). With the NKPA at their front, and the Sea of Japan at their back, UN forces were in dire straight and running out of options. Only the visionary mind of General MacArthur conceptualizing and executing Operation Chromite could avoid a military disaster and save South Korea. Although the NKPA appeared in control of the conflict, MacArthur recognized the strain placed on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. U.s. Military 's Security The 21st century came accompanied by different worldwide security's challenges. In this complex environment the U.S. must be able to use efficiently all instruments of power to defend the national interests. Now than ever the U.S. military power must be prepared to defeat the enemy using air, land, and sea. Thus, the transition of troops from the sea to the shore will remain an essential way to achieve a position of advantage over the forces hostile to U.S. interests. Frequent concerns of other countries related to improvement of anti–amphibious and amphibious operations highlight the importance of these kind of warfare in the future conflicts. Today's concern is not about the possession of amphibious capabilities, but about the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Finally, the Marines Corps effort to improve amphibious capabilities instead to be seen as a way to develop the U.S. ability to project power, it is seen as another method to preserve the service 's relevance. At the same time, the request of American citizens for "zero casualties" is playing its separate role in the detriment of amphibious warfare. The history of 20th century showed that amphibious assault is typically a very difficult and risky operation, it is governed by a violent character that bring a high casualties rate. Moreover, in our day, when achievement of surprise during landing is almost impossible due to enemy 's intelligence capabilities, and when enemy has sophisticated weapon systems, to go ashore became much more dangerous. The fear of commanders for potential personnel and equipment loses conditions the exclusion of amphibious operations from the list of preferable options. Another factor that has affected the development of amphibious operations is the reduction of defense budget. The Marine Corps along with other services has managed the reduction in funding by cutting capacities. Many procurement programs, capabilities, and force structures were under severe examination. The fiscally restrained environment associated with the questioned relevance of amphibious operations hit severely amphibious forces that are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. A Brief Look at Igor Sikorsky Igor Sikorsky widened the field of aviation throughout his life with inventions that caught the interest of the world. In the early 1920's, after successfully building a four–engine biplane, Sikorsky began his work on amphibian aircraft. The aircraft proved to be versatile with its ability to take off and land on an airstrip or in the water. Sikorsky increased the size and maximum range of his designs until producing the S–42 Flying Clipper. His line of amphibian planes became the precursor to commercial transoceanic flight. He played an important role in both the introduction of amphibian aircraft and its transition into commercial aviation. Sikorsky also contributed heavily to the development of the helicopter and research of rotary flight design. His design concept that had one main lifting rotor in combination with a smaller rotor to counteract torque is still used in modern helicopters. The helicopters maneuverability and ability to lift off vertically allowed it to fly into and out of terrain not fit for normal aircraft. He designed the R–4 which became widely produced and utilized by the military mainly for delivery of supplies and search and rescue. The company he began in New York, now called Sikorsky Aircraft, produced the S–70 Black Hawk helicopter in response to the Army's need for a durable transport helicopter in 1972. Sikorsky Aircraft manufactured over 900 aircraft for the Army by the end of 1989 and a family of helicopters spawned from variations of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. The Army And Marine Corps Sun Tzu's military acumen resonates in the current discussion of the Marine Corps' preparedness to conduct forcible entry. The Army and Marine Corps saw significant successes utilizing forcible entry and amphibious operations in the Pacific during WWII and the Korean War. The landing at Inchon was "arguably the Corps' greatest amphibious success" (Cancian, "Preserving Amphibious Capabilities in a Time of Austerity, 2012). Led by General MacArthur, Inchon remains the legacy by which future amphibious operations are compared against. However, it is important to recognize that in the past 60+ years since Inchon, the modern militarization of both state and non–state adversaries has transformed the battlespace to utilize warfare across multiple domains. This transformation requires a forthright Sun Tzu–like comparison of Marine Corps capabilities, and the perspicacity to recognize that our current posture along with a traditional approach to amphibious warfare is no longer effective at countering our enemies. Given the challenges that exist across the domains of military operations, this paper will demonstrate how based on the current concepts and amphibious capabilities, the U.S. Marine Corps is less prepared to conduct forcible entry operations than we were during the landing at Inchon, and subsequent liberation of Seoul. The transformation in military thought towards employment of forces across multi–domain operations battlespace is based on the current threats ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. The Effects Of Cars On The Current World Majority of the world's population can't even stand a world without cars; I boldly support that t; development of automobiles has really influenced the world positively. Whether some people love or hate vehicles, a fact that we have to admit is that vehicles play a major role in our lives and it has influenced the world positively. However, there are negative effects of motor vehicles that I ca refute, but generally the positive impacts outweigh the negative effects of automobiles in the current world (Erjavec, 2013). Development of vehicles has entirely changed our perception about the world and shaped the manner in which we imagine things, the world is like a global village to all of us and all the credit goes to the early inventors and those who came with the idea of motor vehicle development. Development of vehicles has changed some of the human cultures and behaviors, we even have books, articles and documentaries about the automobile inventions and all these are evidence of on how we cherish vehicles because they have truly helped us and they are still helping us. Songs, poems and several movies have been acted about the development of vehicles, the fast and furious episodes of movies uses cars to race, and if we analyze the movie well we realize they tend to showcase different types of cars, engine capacity and their speed. Motor vehicles are the backbone of other forms of transport, without motor vehicle we can't have air, rail and water transport. For ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Synthesis Essay Synthesis Essay – General Douglas MacArthur MSgt Court Sartain Air Force Senior Noncommissioned Officer Academy GENERAL DOUGLAS MACARTHUR Often times when people talk about General Douglas MacArthur, they tend to think of a great military leader of the World War Two (WWII) or the Korean War. General MacArthur once said, "A true leader has the confidence to stand alone, the courage to make tough decisions, and the compassion to listen to the needs of others. He does not set out to be a leader, but becomes one by the equality of his actions and the integrity of his intent." General Douglas MacArthur, also known as Mac, was a Visionary Leader that not only shaped the outcome of the Korean War but Japan as well. However, he was not the most Ethical Leader to serve in the United States Military, which led to him being relieved of duty by President Truman in 1951. In this paper we will review not just how he was a visionary but at times unethical and how I relate those leadership traits to my own. VISIONARY LEADERSHIP General MacArthur was truly a visionary leader. He had the ability to see what needed to be done and set plans for accomplishing it. One week after the start of the Korean War General MacArthur had his Chief of Staff start considering an amphibious assault to take out communication in Seoul ("Concepts:," n.d.). Before Mac was able to get approval and conduct his operation he had to overcome strong objections to his desired incursion site ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Large scale amphibious warfare has not been utilized by the US in decades. Most of the ingress and egress that has occurred in recent conflict was conducted by aviation platforms. As an expeditionary naval force one of the core capabilities of the United States Marine Corps is amphibious warfare. Because of the Marine Corps stake in amphibious warfare, the relevancy of the organization has been questioned. Although the US has not utilized large scale amphibious operations in decades, the relevancy of the Marine Corps will remain concrete through 2030 and beyond based on the possibility of amphibious operations and the proven competency of ... As the Marine Corps footprint continues to shrink in Iraq and Afghanistan, Marines will find themselves aboard ships once again and serving their primary role as the Nation's force in readiness. This leaves many questioning what the Marine Corps' future role in irregular warfare will be. In the words of former Commandant General James T. Conway, "We must be a two fisted fighter – able to destroy our enemy formations with our scalable air–ground–logistics teams in major contingencies, but equally able to employ our hard earned irregular warfare skills hones over decades of conflict" (Conway). It is not yet time for the Marine Corps to hang up those boots! The Marine Corps can and will continue to serve as a key component of irregular warfare as it will continue to train and improve irregular warfare tactics to aid those nations with struggling governments from being overtaken by insurgencies/terrorist groups. The traditional doctrine called for a 3–1 superiority in order to have a successful amphibious landing and Holland Smith's plan only had 2–1 superiority over the enemy. After proposing such a plan, Holland Smith was put in charge of the frontal charge that would be carried out in Tarawa. With this command, he proceeded to request the need for 100 more amtracs on top of 75 troop carrying amtracs that the 2nd Division Marines already had. This request did not go over well with the commander of the South Pacific Amphibious Force, Admiral Kelly Turner. Admiral Turner thought that requesting and moving 100 additional landing vehicles would be a logistic failure and did not see the need for them as he believed that the amount of vehicles they already possessed would be sufficient based on the tides. • 38. Conduct Forcible Entry Operations During The Korean War Essay The current amphibious concepts and capabilities of the US ensure that we are better prepared to conduct forcible entry operations than we were during the landing at Inchon, and subsequent liberation of Seoul. Amphibious concepts, such as seabasing, amphibious command and control (C2), and the Expeditionary Strike Group (ESG) allow forces to project power across domains. Proof of concept exercises like Bold Alligator continue to refine our amphibious capability to provide flexible, scalable, responsive forces that can conduct a multitude of missions. Inchon, during the Korean War, highlights the benefit of maneuver warfare and joint operations. However, security operations, intelligence, and speed were deficient during Operation CHROMITE. World War II demonstrated a lack of preparedness to conduct amphibious operations in the Pacific by the US and Great Britain. The Pacific Campaign and Inchon prove the need to maintain a professional amphibious force and the importance of concepts like seabasing, C2, and the ESG in amphibious operations. Applying the concepts of seabasing, C2, and the ESG in joint exercises with platforms such as Maritime Prepositioning Force, multipurpose amphibious assault ships (LHD), Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCAC), AV–8B Vertical/Short Take–Off and Landing (VSTOL) jets, and MV–22 tilt rotor aircraft ensure that we are better prepared to conduct forcible entry operations than we were during the landing at Inchon, and subsequent liberation of Seoul. ... • 40. Landings Were Been Around Since The Revolutionary War Amphibious landings have been around since the Revolutionary War. The main purpose has always been for landings; in order, to position soldiers for an assault on a city. Amphibious assaults, however, have never actually been executed until World War 1. During that time a need for a thorough amphibious assault doctrine was not needed because amphibious landings were not carried out to assault the enemy on the beachhead, and landings were usually met with little resistance. One of the first and foremost amphibious assaults occurred during World War 1. This amphibious operation is known as the Battle of Gallipoli, which ended as a major failure for the Australian and New Zealand Coalition forces, or ANZAC forces. The Battle of Gallipoli ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The ANZAC had to control the Dardanelles by capturing the Gallipoli peninsula from Turkey, in order to capture Constantinople and control the Strait of Bosporus. 2 However, the amphibious assault on Gallipoli was a major disaster for the ANZAC and its allied forces. Many mistakes were made because the ANZAC did not plan the amphibious assault well. The first mistake that was made was that the ANZAC landing forces landed one mile north of the landing site. 3 This was a problem because the landing force would have to change their course of direction, in order to get to the correct landing site, which would waste precious time. This was also a problem because the direction they were going to land at was an area with open cliffs rather than the open beach and countryside that was intended. Further, the ANZAC forces did not adequately plan, how efficiently they were too move off the beachhead, which poised as a potential kill zone. The initial problem was that getting out of the landing crafts was problematic.4 The terrain under the shore posed a problem for many soldiers getting off the beaches because it slowed them down. Many ANZAC soldiers drowned or died disembarking their landing crafts. The ANZAC troops crowded the beaches, once they landed. The ANZAC soldiers could not exit the beaches because not only were the beaches chaotic with the amassed troops but also the maps that the ANZAC soldiers were outdated and were utterly useless. Walcheren, a small Dutch island at the Western end of the Beveland Peninsula was the setting for one of the most underrated but critical engagements of the second world war. The summer of 1944 had saw a series of almost unprecedented successes by allied forces in northwestern Europe. The Normandy landings in June had been followed by the breakout from the beachhead and an advance of some 300 miles eastward across France to the low countries. By early October the tempo of operations had slackened. The attempt in September to jump the lower Rhine at Arnhem (Op MARKET GARDEN) with airborne troops had failed. It looked as if the battlefront would remain west of the Rhine for the winter and that the war would last well into 1945. The key to the supply problems was the port of Antwerp, captured with its dock facilities only slightly damaged in September 1944. It was 50 miles from the sea and could not be used by the allied shipping until the heavily mined Scheldt estuary had been made safe, but the Allied eyes were on the Rhine crossings at Arnhem, not the lower Scheldt. By mid October the allies held most of the mainland forming the southern bank of the estuary, but the Germans still held the island of Walcheren, which guarded the port entrance. It was a matter of urgency for the allies to use Antwerp as the supply problem threatened the to curtail the allied plan of prosecuting the war on a wide front. Japanese cars have the incentive of having an accelerated performance system that gives their cars more power under the hood and therefore increases the speed. They tend to have a longer life span and repairing them is just as equal with the American made cars. When it comes to reliability, for some reason, American cars are known for being unreliable. However, those who think that way probably live in the past. We know that American cars built 30– 40 years ago, do not usually reach the 200k–mile mark, while the Japanese cars were hitting 250– 300k. However, in this modern age, many of the American cars are reaching 200–250k miles easily. Also, most companies have lemons and recalls. Like, the 2006 Ford Fusion has a strut leaking problem and the 8th Gen Civic has a notorious tranny problem. Both American and Japanese cars have problems but some people still rely on Japanese cars. They believe that these cars are still reliable compared to the other one. That is the fact. Resale values are determined by taking into consideration the equipment and options of a vehicle, the mileage, the condition, and the geographic area where the vehicle has been driven. It also pertains to what made and model of the vehicle is. Which is why many are aware that American cars compared to Japanese cars have less resale value. Both are somehow having the same features and specs however; Japanese cars tend to last longer because of its quality and how it is made. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In rare cases where sufficient forces are available, such as the Allied invasion of NW Europe in WWII, truly "grave" damage can be sufficiently inflicted. But this situation is not "usually" the case. Employing amphibious forces also carries a significant risk that damage to one's own forces will be disproportionate with that inflicted upon the enemy. The Spartan Hoplite invasion of Sphacteria provides an extreme example where the invading force was isolated and destroyed. A similar example is the British WWI invasion of Gallipoli. • 67. The Key Attributes Of The Allies ' Command And Control... In 1943 the British and American Allies shared a common language and a common enemy, but they disagreed on the war's grand strategy. (site) General George Marshall, Army Chief of Staff, wanted to conduct a cross channel invasion bringing the fight directly to the Germans. Winston Churchill, British Prime Minister, wanted to fight in the edges of the Axis territory and exploit the soft underbelly of Southern Europe. (site) These strategic differences culminated in the Sicily Campaign, where the Allies' command and control function, in many cases, proved to be inadequate to consistently integrate joint functions at the operational level, as it failed to ensure all senior leaders adhered to the three key attributes for Mission Command and, ... The compromise nature of strategic decision to conduct Operation Husky clouded commander's intent and limited its strategic objective of capturing the island, securing the Mediterranean and pressuring Italy's commitment to Axis war efforts. (site) But realistically, the Americans wanted a dress rehearsal for the invasion of France and the British wanted an initial step toward exploiting the Axis's "soft underbelly". (site) Operationally, General Eisenhower and General Alexander failed to clarify the strategic ambiguity and provide clear operational intent during the planning of Husky. They did not ensure close proximity between subordinate commands to support planning, integration and coordination. These deficiencies led the senior subordinate commanders to develop their own diverging commander's intent causing incomplete understanding which transformed Husky into a competition between Allies instead of an opportunity to deliver a decisive blow to the Axis by trapping the German and Italian Armies on Sicily, possibly changing the trajectory of the war. (site) The biggest obstacle facing the Allies Joint Operations was the lack of trust among the senior subordinate commanders. Based on his initial impression of the U.S. Army during Operation Torch, General Alexander did not trust General Patton's 7th Army to carry the main effort during Husky. In fact, Alexander constructed the OPLAN to limit the American ground forces to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 71. Joint Force The United States, throughout the course of its history, has attempted to steady the dynamic global climate in eras of strategic change. Examples of this abound: post–World War I, the post–Vietnam Cold War, and even the current post–long war environment. However, it is arguable that no era of strategic change was more critical to the development of contemporary international security than the interwar period between World War II's end and the rapid communist advance across the 38th parallel that initiated the Korean War. Yet similarities exist with our current age, and one would be remiss to discount the invaluable experiences garnered during such a transformative period in global history. • 75. How Technology Changed Cars Changed Over Time? How has technology in cars evolved over time? Technology in cars is important because cars are driven by all kinds of people throughout most of their lives. People use their cars to travel near or far distances. You basically use your car to go where ever you want, so wouldn't you want the technology in them to improve? There are three main features when it comes to cars that I think are most important to consumers. Those features are safety, performance, and comfort. This was made for increased durability and safety, and was also more efficient to use. In 1908 ford made the model T. It could be purchased for a price of $825, which would roughly equal $8,000 dollars now. That's still considered extremely cheap for a brand new car. Now a days to get a brand new car, you would need at least around $13k, and that's for very low models. However, even having a car back then was an extreme luxury. The model–T had a 4–cylinder engine which produced about 20hp and could hit a top speed of 40mph. That is actually really fast for those days. Even though it's barely faster than a horse, it's obviously more comfortable. When it comes to transmission, the model T had a 3 speed. It was really 2 speeds, and one of the gears was used for reverse. The model T was a real–wheel–drive vehicle, which means that the engine sends all the power to the rear wheels using the drive shaft which connects to the rear axle. This wasn't always the best because a lot of the weight was in front of the car due to the engine. This means the rear wheels wouldn't always have the best traction if the road was wet. Nowadays there are rear–wheel–drive cars with 50/50 weight distribution and different types of traction control to prevent the rear wheels to lose traction. The suspension for the Model–t allowed a great deal of wheel movement to cope with the dirt roads of the time. The suspension ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
