I will be analyzing the cover of Rolling Stone magazine, which features Green
Day. The first thing that will be noticed is the band. Their costume is used to
show how they are now successful, with a tie but how they are still true to the
Punk ethic as he stills looks a bit ‘rough’ and DIY. The lead singer and the
drummer both have coloured hair, which also links into the punk style. The
typography looks simple but bold and it stands out, this could link to the raw
punk attitude towards music as it doesn’t use much but it stands out and makes a
statement. The bright background colour could have been used in the same way
as the font; it is bright and simple but catches the attention of the audience, as it
could be argued Punk Rock does. This front cover as a whole could be seen as
minimalistic and almost hoe made by some as a lot of the original punk
magazines were.
