The Maribyrnong River Bank
There are places in the west that we pass daily which seem forever destined to remain a mystery or
curiosity – like the cluttered yellow barbershop on Williamstown road, the 'Museum of Printing' on
Geelong Road, or even the old Greek op–shop in Spotswood – but Footscray 's Heavenly Queen
Temple need not be a mystery any longer.
Most recognisable for its 50 foot gold statue overlooking the Maribyrnong River which is visible
from trains on the Sydenham line, The Westsider recently visited for the birthday celebrations of the
royal deity herself, and was given the grand tour (and a tasty pork bun) by Society President Mr
William Tsang.
The Maribyrnong River bank began its transformation into Australia 's largest Chinese temple with
the acquisition of the unused land wedged between the river and the railway line previously
designated a "100 year flood" area, meaning no building could be undertaken for fear of potential
flood damage. With the land–raising project complete, the foundations were in place for the current
temple and grand entrance gate, with the complex awaiting completion of left and right wing
buildings, plus an additional temple at the rear over the coming years.
To its worshippers, the temple is a celebration of the goddess Mazu – the protector of sea travellers
– but it also stands as a testament to the resilience of the Chinese people who journeyed to Footscray
and surrounds via troubled Vietnam in the 1970s and '80s. It is also home to four other deities –

Mckenzie Falls Gorge Trail Case Study
The Mckenzie Falls Gorge Trail won the AILA 'Landscape Architecture Design Award' and the
'People's choice award' in 2014. About 250 Km west of Melbourne, the volcanic plains of Victoria's
Western district hosts a geologically significant area called the Grampians National Park. The
Grampians National Park is an unprotected bushland well known among hikers and rock climbers.
The Mckenzie Falls is one of Victoria's largest falls and is the site to the reconstructed Mckenzie
Falls Gorge Trail by Hansen Partnership and Parks Victoria.
A major bushfire ruined about 50 percent of the park in 2006, followed five years later by a flood
that damaged a significant amount of the park's infrastructure, particularly along the Mackenzie
River. The floods ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Parks Victoria did not dictate a rigid brief but instead asked Hansen Partnership to create a 'unique
experience' for the visitors. (Ricardo, 2014)
ACCESS
There was very little existing site material available, the designers documented the site walking and
mapped the area from scratch to propose possible path alignments along the way. Rather than
crossing the river below the falls and leading up to the ridge–line as it did before, the path would
take visitors through the base of the valley, as close to the river as possible. (Ricardo, 2014)
To minimalize the linearity of the project heavier and more visually dominant elements were
discarded. Thus the presence of the trail is not always constant and it blends in with the
surroundings. The bridges and the elevated walkways meander through a cool microclimate created
by a field of fallen rocks lying next to an escarpment wall.
"We wanted the bridge to follow the escarpment wall and gave instruction to make sure the rock
wall was always within arm's length." explains Anton Malishev, senior landscape architect at
Hansen Partnership. The shape of the bridge thus is not

Cultural Hegemony In The American Dream
Peter Carey has applied the motif of "the American Dream" to illustrate the issue of cultural
hegemony, and the potential consequences of it in terms of a specific nation's cultural identity. The
outcomes of cultural hegemony may appear if a society is heavily affected by another one and
endeavours to adopt its culture in the pursuit of a better life. In American dreams, Carey depicts
idealized utopian scenario and corresponding loss of townspeople's cultural identity – this fantasy of
the "American dream" emerges like one of the story's main motifs. Parallel to their mystification of
the American way of life, the people of a place called Bacchus Marsh develop a negative attitude
towards their own town, being dull and insignificant, as depicted in the words of the narrator's
father: "nothing more than a stopping place. Somewhere on the way to somewhere else" (Edelson).
The exact location of the Carey's remote, no one–wants–to–live–in town is unknown, even though
there are some indications that it is in rural Australia. Carey uses figurative language and magic
realism to achieve a sense of hidden meaning. Some toponyms really exist, like the fictional Bald
Hill and actual ones with the same purpose of serving as lookouts – "On Bald Hill are half a dozen
telescopes through which the Americans can spy on the town..." (Edelson). The situational irony
takes the reader to the opening of the story and the narrator's depiction of the locals at the Roxy –

Ellison Onizuka Major Accomplishments
Ellison Onizuka was an Asian American astronaut that worked on the Discovery and Challenger
missions. He was born on June 24, 1946 in Kealakua, Hawaii. As a child he picked coffee beans to
make money for his family. He went to the University of Colorado and was in their Air Force ROTC
program and studied aerospace engineering. Ellison Onizuka impacted space exploration by
becoming the first Asian American in space, working on the IUS on the Discovery mission, and the
tragic fate of the Challenger mission. Onizuka's first major accomplishment was becoming the first
Asian American in space. "Onizuka became the first Asian American in space in January of 1985
when he joined the crew of the Discovery for the shuttle program's first Department of Defense
mission" (Encyclopedia.com, 2018). Onizuka was the type of person that never forgot where he
came from. He remembers being a little kid in Hawaii and dreaming of becoming an astronaut. He
feels he can have an impact on the next generation of young Hawaiians and minorities around the
world. That they can become something even when the odds seem low. "The trip made him the first

The Mid West region is about 200 km north of Perth and surrounding by growing economic regions.
The Mid West region is a central point between the Pilbara, Kimberley. Although traditionally Mid

Introduction
The Yarra Valley is the oldest wine region in Victoria, located in the north–east of Melbourne and
just over an hour drive from Melbourne CBD. The name of the Yarra Valley was given from the
region that is surrounding the Yarra River, which runs and originates for approximately 90
kilometres east of Melbourne's business district and towards one of Victoria's famous tourist
attractions, Port Phillip Bay. The valley covers a very large area consisting of Yarra Ranges National
Park located in the east and Kinglake National Park which is located in the west. The valley further
consists of many towns such as Coldstream, Lilydale, Yarra Glen, Dixons Creek, Seville, and

The Relationship Between The Pre Plant Nitrate N And...
gure 1 shows the relationship between the pre–plant nitrate–N and relative yield of wheat. At the
Australian level, the CV90 of 47kg N/ha has a narrow CR90 of 43–51kg nitrate–N/ha. However
when the data is presented in terms of states, Queensland, Victoria and South Australia, differences
between CV90 and CR90 are evident. The lowest CV90 is Queensland with 43kg nitrate–N/ha,
followed by South Australia with 55kg nitrate–N/ha and the highest value is for Victoria at 62kg
nitrate–N/ha. Corresponding to the CV90 values are the CR90 values with Queensland 39–48kg
nitrate–N/ha, SA 50–61kg nitrate–N/ha and Victoria 47–82kg nitrate–N/ha. Whilst Queensland and
South Australia have similarly narrow CR90 values, Victoria's CR90 is wider. This indicates many
high–yielding trials producing Ymax in excess of 4 or 5t/ha and a similar number of low–yielding
trials, averaging 5t/ha. The r value for each relationship was as follows: 1–2t/ha, 0.36; 2–3t/ha, 0.45;
3–4t/ha, 0.38; 4–5t/ha, 0.69 and >5t/ha, 0.63.
From Figure 3, increasing in–crop rainfall has resulted in a trend of small increases in soil nitrate–N
kg/ha demand for Queensland and South Australian data. Against the trend is the Queensland
>250mm value which showed a decline in value to 36 nitrate–N kg/ha from the previous 200–
250mm demand for 44 nitrate–N kg/ha. In contrast, the South Australian wheat data has continued
to use higher soil nitrate–N values, of 53 nitrate–N kg/ha at 350mm, without any decline at

Transportation Advantages And Disadvantages
The type of transport that an individual uses daily not only affect themselves, but also the wider
community. There are many factors that are likely to affect how an individual makes decisions.
Some decisions are made rationally, others are not. In the past decade, both cities of Greater
Melbourne and Perth are being affected by people's transportation choices. The rapid increase in
population across Australian cities, especially Melbourne and Perth means that the government is
looking for solutions to reduce problems such as raising levels of pollution, congestion and travel
time. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) the residential population of Greater
Melbourne has increased by 2.1% and Greater Perth has increased by 1.6%, during the period of
June 2014 to June 2015 (2017). Consequently, this steep increase in population means that the
transport infrastructure in both cities is being put under increasing pressure. Therefore, to cope with
the rising population, both cities have expanded their public transportation network. In the year of
2015–16 in Perth, 6,850 Transperth train services were run weekly (Public Transport Authority
2017) and in Melbourne there are over 2,200 week day services and more than 3000 services during
the weekends (Metro Trains Melbourne 2017).
As seen in the graph above, both Perth and Melbourne are showing strong trends of growth.
Furthermore, the steep incline in Perth from 2007 can be explained by the opening of the Mandurah
train line in 2007. From 2006, Melbourne is showing a rapid growth, this is because in the 2006
Commonwealth games occurred in Melbourne (Changing Transport 2012). Moreover, both cities
also experienced population growth therefore this may account for the public transport growth.
Private transportation such as cars are very popular with the Australian public. Around 76% of all
vehicles accounted for in 2013 were passenger vehicles (ABS 2014). Cars have become increasingly
affordable and offer greater mobility therefore more Australians are choosing them over public
transportation (ABS 2014). By analysis Australian Bauru of Statistics data social research company
McCrindle found that two in three Australians drive to work or study

The Contribution Of Victoria Claflin Woodhull
Victoria Claflin Woodhull was born on September 23rd, 1838 in Homer, Ohio. She was an
extremely talented and gifted individual who received little to no education throughout her lifetime.
She did not attend school until much later, when she was about eight or nine years old. Nevertheless,
Victoria knew at a very young age that it was her destiny to accomplish great things. She was
typically admired by women because of her courageous acts of individualism. She was fearless and
was not afraid to stand up for what she believed in which was shocking at the time, because
women's issues were not taken into consideration. She was truly a remarkable and a powerful figure
during the 19th century in the United States. She is notably recognized for being the first woman in
history to run for president in the United States in 1872, as well as the first woman to ever address
Congress regarding women 's suffrage in 1871. She was a passionate feminist, an advocate for equal
education for women, civil rights, she supported women 's right to vote, and believed that women
should have the right to be in control of their own lives and have the freedom to make their own
decisions. She also believed in the concept of "free love", which gave women the freedom to marry,
divorce, and have children if they so pleased without the government, or anyone else for that matter,
controlling them or telling them what to do in their situation. "Victoria had vowed to become a

Victoria's Secret has stores worldwide. In north America, the number of stores has been consistently

How Is Victoria Woodhull Blood Martin Successful
Victoria Claflin Woodhull Blood Martin, Victoria Woodhull for short, started out as a young girl
with very little, who wanted much. She is most well–known for being the first woman to ever run
for President of the United States of America. As well as being a Presidential canidate for the 1872
election, she was also a women's rights leader, a businesswoman, and a medium. She lived a very
controversial life, from being the breadwinner of her family, to being thrown in jail. She was a
radical reformer, she believed in self–governing, and that all women have the right to choose what's
best for them, and in some cases, if that meant being a prostitute, then that was perfectly fine.
Victoria was a fire–cracker. She became very involved in everything she believed in. In this paper I
intend to summarize breifly the life of Victoria Woodhull, while also discussing her views on self–
governing, the impact she made on the women's suffrage movement, and also the obstacles she
encountered through this turmoilous journey.
Victoria Claflin was born September 23, 1838 in Homer, Ohio. She was the daughter of Buck
Claflin and Anna Claflin. In her later years she had painted her childhood as white picket fence,
perfect home, but, in reality it was far from it. Her dad was the town's crook, and her mother was
looked at differently because of her ability to speak with spirits, a talent that Victoria found she also
had. From a young age she possessed great leadership skills. Her nickname was "the

A biome is a large geographical area of distinctive plant and animal groups, which are adapted to
that particular environment. The climate and geography of a region determines what type of biome
can exist in that region. Major biomes include deserts, forests, grasslands, tundra, and several types
of aquatic environment. As can see on the topography map, The Goulburn has two Biomes:–
1. Grassland in central, northern, west and south–west of the region and 2. Temperate forest in the
south–east.
What is grown in the Goulburn.

The Jan Juc – Torquay region is experiencing growth greater than the Victorian average (SurfCoast,

demographic gives rise to the concern of overdevelopment without significant consideration given
to open space and natural system requirements. The localities natural environment is the core of the

Downtown Victoria Architectural Analysis
Downtown Victoria is filled with a great deal of architectural structures that vary in style from old
Eurocentric to modern. As you walk the streets of Downtown Victoria it is hard not to notice the
beautiful Eurocentric inspired buildings that make you feel as if you are touring an old city in
Europe. Although many of the more unique buildings are small, they display plenty of character
through their colours, shape and materials. Victoria has modernized some aspects of its architecture
but it has managed to keep many of its aged and Eurocentric inspired buildings that capture
Victoria's character. As I roam the streets of Downtown Victoria what catches my eye instantly are

I took a sunny afternoon to take a walking tour of Downtown Victoria and there were various
buildings that gave me different feelings as well as having my mind make connections to buildings
I've seen elsewhere. First being 560 Yates Street's Oriental Building, where I was reminded of a
New York City style apartment which was short, made of rustic red brick, displaying rounded
window followed by having that tinted brown giving it that old and dirty look. Then there was a
sudden switch as I came across 1675 Douglas Street's Terasen Gas Building. The Terasen Gas
building was very generic and modern office looking building. This type of building was one where
if you came across a photo of it, you wouldn't be able to pin point where it came from, meaning it
could be anywhere in the world. The last and top favourite building that struck out to me was
Centennial Square's City Hall building. This building was my favourite for various reasons one
being able to capture that Eurocentric feel that happens to be one of my favourite styles of buildings.
It also really captured the eye with its bold red brick colour and unique shape; it's almost impossible
to miss. The outstanding thing about Victoria is the fact that its kept so many of its older structures
and is still able to give the small city character. Often with big cities there is constant

Chisholm Essay
Your Involvement
Federal Electorate
Chisolm: The electorate of Chisholm is named after Caroline Chisholm (1800–1877). She was a
noted social worker and advocate for immigration of New South Wales. She helped newly
immigrated women in New South Wales to find shelter, dispersed the unemployed to the country so
that they could find work and improved the conditions for workers in goldfields in Victoria.
The current sitting member for Chisholm is Anna Burke. She is a member of the Australian Labor
Party. She has been serving the electorate of Chisholm since 1998 and served as a Speaker for the
House of Representatives during the 43rd Parliament. In 2005, Burke moved a Private Member's
Bill in the Federal Parliament to create a 'Do Not Call' list to protect people from unwanted

Recently, Burke declared that she supports same–sex marriage, which takes the lower house to 75

agriculture, coastal communities, and infrastructure. 27. The species and places depend on intricate
ecosystems, and even small changes to the climate can disrupt the delicate balance of nature. 28.
Stop cutting down trees, cutting down trees is the prime reason of the climate change shocking,

Social Foundry Case Study
Business Overview
History
The Social Foundry was established as a pilot program in March of 2016. With one participant being
sourced from the Working for the Dole program. During this time, this participant has been
employed working 25 hours per week learning carpentry and woodworking skills. In October of
2016 the Social Foundry obtained its Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status and became a
registered public benevolent institution. In late November 2016, a Development Manager was
employed to start the process of generating funding for this new venture. This role expanded quickly

Please refer to (app. 5), the Social Foundry proposition directly tackles this problem by offering an
alternative pathway to further education and workplace training.
Over time we see our model being able to be replicated in numerous forms in many regions
throughout Australia. Currently our focus is limited to woodworking and carpentry, long term it
could be expanded into manufacturing, I.T., customer service, agriculture or food services just to
name a few.
The Social Foundry aims to focus on the needs of the Kyneton community located in the Macedon
Ranges. However, having access to the train line the scope of our demographic can reach as far
south as Gisborne and Castlemaine to the north.
Shortly the Social Foundry will be hiring a Head of Operations who will be overseeing the
mentoring program for our participants. We will also be establishing a strong presence in the centre
of Kyneton establishing a workshop where goods will be produced. This area will also act as a
community resource where we have partnered with Moto Bean Coffee Roasters. We will be creating
a place in Kyneton where young people will be trained in skills and be able to sell the goods they
produce. These goods will be for sale in this area where the public are welcome to

The Garbage Problem Of Victoria Bc
The purpose of the memorandum is to inform about the garbage problem in Victoria BC. Also
discuss the importance of the landfill diverse and some solutions for Camosun College. Baila
Lazarius from Business Vancouver magazine, says that according to Metro Vancouver estimated that
250,000 tonnes of food scraps enter landfills each year. The food waste produces greenhouse gas
methane that contributed with the global warming. It costs 109$ per tonne according to Albert
Shammes director of waste management for the City of Vancouver.
The amount of garbage humans throw away is rising fast and it will not change without
transformational changes in how we use and reuse materials.
With the purpose of build conscious about this topic, in the past 2 weeks ago in November 24 as a
project in my economic class, we went to the Hartland landfill in #1 Hartland Avenue. In the landfill

when the garbage and recycle are separated, the garbage is placed in hectares that later of time to be
compacted for a car, it is cover with sawdust or wood power. On the other hand the recycle are
separated in container by the staff and later sell it to companies. With the found they get from sell

Victoria Woodhull: The Women's Suffrage Movement
Victoria Woodhull was a leader for women's suffrage during the 1970s and made the charge on
numerous issues she believed that could solve the sexual immorality in the United States. She
continued her campaign for women's suffrage, but she was widely considered as a negative symbol
of the women's suffrage movement. Woodhull's views were considered radical as she declared free
love and wish to completely overhaul the idea of marriage (Friskin, pg. 94). Her radical views also
resulted in accusing numerous men and sometimes women of adultery and other crimes to destroy
their reputation and prove the sexual immorality of the country (Friskin, pg. 94). While her crusade
of bringing injustices to the public, it caused many of her supporters such as the American Women
Suffrage Association to revoke their support for Woodhull. Woodhull would later be used as an
example for the anti–suffragist as her radical views and scandals surrounding her created a picture of
what women suffrage could result in. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After Woodhull's mother sued her second husband, the case later revealed the shady background
behind Woodhull. It was revealed to the public that Woodhull had two husbands under the same roof

the center of controversy as she wished to change the idea of marriage and many critics saw this as
shameful for a woman established this idea (Friskin, pg. 94). Most of Woodhull's decisions were

The War Without The Culper Spy Ring
Espionage means nothing if no one can get the information obtained by informants. So, the Culper
Ring had to come up with secretive, yet effective ways to quickly transmit information to General
Washington. Their techniques evolved over time and in response to problems, and could only be so
secure, as time was of the essence for encoding, sending, and decoding each message, and they were
extremely important, according to Brian Kilmeade, who claims that historian Morton Pennypacker
"knew the Americans would not have won the Revolutionary War without the Culper Spy Ring"
(Kilmeade and Yaegers, preface). However, despite these innate, as well as the unforeseen problems,
they still succeeded in sending messages through two kinds of encoding. ... Show more content on

For the beginning of the Culper Ring, Caleb Brewster was a perfect person for that job. He even
offered extra benefits by not only have "enthusiastically agreed to ferry messages to Connecticut
[but] even offered to add his own observations to the reports headed to Tallmadge" (Kilmeade and
Yaeger 56). Some time later, as the Culper Ring grew, they gained another asset that offered similar
services to Brewster. Robert Townsend has joined as a courier, to Washington's great delight. He
offered benefits of being a courier that would follow the route from Manhattan to Connecticut,
which passed through Brooklyn. Brooklyn was a place Washington knew the British valued highly,
so any information that could be ascertained from his courier spying passing through would be very
valuable. However, this method was not without it's downfalls, the most obvious being that the
courier was not like an encoded message, they could be easily found and searched either as a regular
part of British security efforts or as a targeted person. This was avoided by the courier about as
much as it could be. Woodhull even "found himself favoring the lower–risk route of the Brooklyn
ferry as he once again began making his regular trips" after his recruitment (Kilmeade and Yaegers
45). Just such a thing happened when a message written by Washington was intercepted before
getting to Tallmadge. The message had many red flags for the British. It referenced "a particular,

Victoria Woodhull In The 1800's
As the first female to run for presidency in 1872, Victoria Woodhull defied the stereotypes that
society has placed on the female gender in the 1800's. At the era where women were not allowed to
speak their minds, complain, or even have any desire for independence, she was able to create a
standing for those without a voice. From creating her own radical publication to the establishment of
the Equal Rights Party, Woodhull was known to be quite a bold and outspoken person. But in a
society where a woman's opinion was viewed to be unrealistic and unimportant, she was often
disregarded; even so this did not drag her down as she aimed to change the world.
Victoria, along with her sister, established the Woodhull and Claflin's Weekly in 1870. There,

George Washington Secret Six Analysis
George Washington's Secret Six presents the somewhat untold story of the Culper spy ring. The ring
was formed after the death of Captain Nathan Hale who was Washington's first spy, in the aftermath
of his death Washington decided that he would do everything in his power to keep his spies from
meeting an unfortunate demise. With the help of Major Benjamin Tallmadge, the roots for the
Culper spy ring were laid. The ring was designed to keep the identities of the members a secret at all
costs. The Culper ring operated out of British occupied New York where all the members were
generally considered to be loyal to Britain. The ring's members were Abraham Woodhull, Robert
Townsend, Caleb Brewster, James Rivington, Benjamin Tallmadge, Austin Roe, and Agent 355.
They communicated using clothesline messaging, dead drops, invisible ink that only reacted to a
secret chemical, code names, and coded messages. The ring successfully brought light to Benedict
Arnold's treason, the British plan to ambush French troops as soon as they landed, as well as
keeping accurate information on troops and ships in New York. The ring only suffered the loss of
one member, this was outstanding considering that the ring was quite large and operated in British
controlled New York. Given the effectiveness of the ring, the Continental army might have been
defeated if the Culper Spy Ring didn't exist.

Vancouver Island Eco Initiatives : Request For Proposal...
The proposal, "Vancouver Island Eco Initiatives – Request for Proposal VIEI–11–02", is a written
by the student, Sarah Smith, with the intent of implementing a platform to sell second hand goods.
The goal of students selling their second hand goods is to raise environmental awareness be
recycling of goods and generate economic support for the students attending Camosun College.
Given the objectives of the proposal, some modifications should be made in order to improve the
clarity of the intent. Such modifications are:
Further and clarification of the explanation of the proposed idea
Identification of any potential drawbacks and consequent predicted solutions
Further exploration of more aspects of implementing the idea
Under the assumption that these recommendations are taken and corrected, it is expected that the
proposal will then be ready for appropriate consideration.
Adjustments to the way in which the proposed idea is explained will improve the overall clarity and
goals of the proposal. Further explanation is required for the basic operations of the proposal. When
the student suggests that the students receive the funds raised by the second hand sales in the form
of bursaries, it leaves the reader wondering if the intent is to have an individual bursary awarded to
each student who participate or is there 16 general bursary for all the funds of the sales. In the first
case, who will be responsible for the allocation and distribution of the individual bursaries? In

Short Speech On Tiaras
Almost every princess, both in fairy tales or in real life, they're always identified by their crowns
and tiaras. Although, it is no longer common for the royals to wear their crowns everywhere they go,
so here are some of this generations princess wedding tiaras.
CATHERINE, DUCHESS OF CAMBRIDGE
She is considered to be a real–life Cinderella when she married the prince of Great Britain, Prince
William. However, she didn't really have a rough life unlike Cinderella but despite the fact that she
belonged to a upper–middle–class family, she is still a commoner. She met the prince at the
University of St. Andrews when they were still studying there in 2001. They got married in April of

King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia which makes her Princess of Sweden as birth and is the first
in line of succession.
In 2010, she got married with Daniel Westling in Stockholm Cathedral. They now have two

Being the only royal born princess on this list, a Princess Victoria has the widest collection of tiaras
among them. The very first crown she wore was when she turned 18 and her parents gave her a
sapphire and diamond crown, which she last wore in 2007. The next one is the Diamond Bandeau
that looks like an extremely fancy headband. And then there's the Queen Josephine's Amethyst Tiara
which was actually turned into a necklace. Princess Victoria's signature crown is the Baden Fringe

This notion is represented hand in hand with the romanticisation of the bush through the glorified
characterisation of 'The Man', exemplifying him as the perfect bushman and more importantly as an
underdog. The described imagery of,
"Stripling on a small and weedy beast",
Denotes the Man as the underdog, however, he carries all the attributes idealised of Australian. This
is shown through the personification of:
"And the stock–whips woke the echoes, and they fiercely answered back"
The poem heroistically connects the romanticism of the bush and landscape to the historically
referenced obsession with the underdog. That, and the previously mentioned social context define
the values, assumptions and voice of the poem and of Australia at that time, one that shows courage
and perseverance even in the face of adversity – a constituently elemental voice.
Kath Walker's poem 'Municipal Gum' (written in 1960) is a representation of the struggles of the
Aboriginal people, shown through an active, responsive voice reflective of the values and
assumptions and the context during that time. Entrapment, displacement and suffering are
accentuated by the use of literary and poetic devices, and combined with the social context, form the
changed voice of the poem. Displacement is represented starting with the juxtaposition of the title.

'Municipal Gum' immediately introduces the idea that a gum tree, a natural object should not be

Should Greyhound Racing Be Banned Across All States Across...
A couple of years ago, Australia watched on from their tellies as 'Four Corners' unraveled the
darkest of secrets in modern day greyhound racing. We exposed the gruesome sport for what it is, a
lower class 'Melbourne Cup' which sends a clear and undeniable statement that the GRV
(Greyhound Racing Victoria) have a lack of motivation and desire to fix the sport. The allegations
that live baiting is used during training and the corruption surrounding the policing of the sport,
further supports the idea that greyhound racing should indefinitely be banned in all states across
Australia. Greyhound racing is completely out dated and will leave future generations puzzled at
why we encouraged the continuation of this disgusting sport.
Fear, a common misconception regarding the GRV. Greyhound Racing Victoria, an institution which
has no ethical values. The constant reminder which is apparent when discussing the lack of
motivation and desire to fix the sport, they so dearly cherish. The underwhelming reality of the
situation that they simply just don't care, or don't have the 'resources' to make an impact. Is the GRV
ready to take serious consideration of the recent events, and make a formal statement regarding the
live baiting training centers? Or is the Australian Government forced to ban the sport across all
states? I personally think that Greyhound Racing should be banned across all states because, the
industry once promised that they 'would do better' back in 2015, but enough is

The Comstock Era And The 19th Century
The Comstock Era was very important in the 19th century. It affected a lot of people good and bad
during this time. Also, many leaders were presented in this era such as Victoria Woodhull and
Tennie Claflin. However, some of these events still occur in current United States politics such as
"free love." Whether or not it's better or worse free love still continues and is brought up during
protests or conferences. In this essay, I will explain the Comstock era and the role Woodhull and
Claflin played in it. I will also talk about how free love is part of U.S. politics how it relates to
feminism in the 21st century. The Comstock era was when the Comstock law was passed in 1873
and was part of a campaign for legislating public morality. The purpose of this law was to stop the
trade in obscenity literatures and immoral articles. It also was towards birth control usage, abortion,
and human sexuality. If you were caught using it or selling it you would be sentenced to jail. Also,
during this time the industrial revolution was making a large number of jobs available to members
of both sexes, and women were taking advantage of this opportunity by entering the workforce in
large numbers. Victoria and Tennie were extremely active in the politics of the United States.

includes forest management and proper paper recycling, there is a change that an equilibrium could
be maintained of cutting trees and planting new trees.

Market Ratios Between Financial Year 2010 Essay
Market Ratios between Financial Year 2010 and Financial Year 2015 Harvey Norman's share
performance in the marketplace is unstable as you can see in Table __ and Fig __. Its Price per share
reduced from Financial Year 2010 which had a value of $15.2 to a low in Financial Year 2011 of
$7.6, before increasing to $17 in Financial Year 2015, its maximum was in the Financial Year 2013
with a whopping $23.5. Across this period Earnings Per Share (EPS) have averaged $0.18 which
again makes no difference as it was changing simultaneously. Earnings Yield suddenly had a
reduction, with shareholders in Financial Year 2015 theoretically paying $18.3 on Harvey Norman's
shares. Despite recent share gains and losses, Harvey Norman's Market to Book Value has improved
since Financial Year 2013, on the back of an increasing share price and lower book value. This
would imply that despite recent financial gains and losses investors are possibly expecting the
administration to be able to create value from Harvey Norman's assets and operations in the future.
4. SWOT ANALYSIS: SWOT is an abbreviation for Strengths, Weakness, Opportunities and
Threats which shows the company's performances for the whole year. SWOT Analysis is only used
when decision making situation arises and when a desired objective is well–defined. SWOT
Analysis of Harvey Norman provides a tactical SWOT analysis of the firm's dealings and
manoeuvres. The SWOT analysis of Harvey Norman can provide a competitive

The Maribyrnong River Bank

  • 1. The Maribyrnong River Bank There are places in the west that we pass daily which seem forever destined to remain a mystery or curiosity – like the cluttered yellow barbershop on Williamstown road, the 'Museum of Printing' on Geelong Road, or even the old Greek op–shop in Spotswood – but Footscray 's Heavenly Queen Temple need not be a mystery any longer. Most recognisable for its 50 foot gold statue overlooking the Maribyrnong River which is visible from trains on the Sydenham line, The Westsider recently visited for the birthday celebrations of the royal deity herself, and was given the grand tour (and a tasty pork bun) by Society President Mr William Tsang. The Maribyrnong River bank began its transformation into Australia 's largest Chinese temple with the acquisition of the unused land wedged between the river and the railway line previously designated a "100 year flood" area, meaning no building could be undertaken for fear of potential flood damage. With the land–raising project complete, the foundations were in place for the current temple and grand entrance gate, with the complex awaiting completion of left and right wing buildings, plus an additional temple at the rear over the coming years. To its worshippers, the temple is a celebration of the goddess Mazu – the protector of sea travellers – but it also stands as a testament to the resilience of the Chinese people who journeyed to Footscray and surrounds via troubled Vietnam in the 1970s and '80s. It is also home to four other deities – ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Mckenzie Falls Gorge Trail Case Study The Mckenzie Falls Gorge Trail won the AILA 'Landscape Architecture Design Award' and the 'People's choice award' in 2014. About 250 Km west of Melbourne, the volcanic plains of Victoria's Western district hosts a geologically significant area called the Grampians National Park. The Grampians National Park is an unprotected bushland well known among hikers and rock climbers. The Mckenzie Falls is one of Victoria's largest falls and is the site to the reconstructed Mckenzie Falls Gorge Trail by Hansen Partnership and Parks Victoria. A major bushfire ruined about 50 percent of the park in 2006, followed five years later by a flood that damaged a significant amount of the park's infrastructure, particularly along the Mackenzie River. The floods ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Parks Victoria did not dictate a rigid brief but instead asked Hansen Partnership to create a 'unique experience' for the visitors. (Ricardo, 2014) ACCESS There was very little existing site material available, the designers documented the site walking and mapped the area from scratch to propose possible path alignments along the way. Rather than crossing the river below the falls and leading up to the ridge–line as it did before, the path would take visitors through the base of the valley, as close to the river as possible. (Ricardo, 2014) To minimalize the linearity of the project heavier and more visually dominant elements were discarded. Thus the presence of the trail is not always constant and it blends in with the surroundings. The bridges and the elevated walkways meander through a cool microclimate created by a field of fallen rocks lying next to an escarpment wall. "We wanted the bridge to follow the escarpment wall and gave instruction to make sure the rock wall was always within arm's length." explains Anton Malishev, senior landscape architect at Hansen Partnership. The shape of the bridge thus is not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Cultural Hegemony In The American Dream Peter Carey has applied the motif of "the American Dream" to illustrate the issue of cultural hegemony, and the potential consequences of it in terms of a specific nation's cultural identity. The outcomes of cultural hegemony may appear if a society is heavily affected by another one and endeavours to adopt its culture in the pursuit of a better life. In American dreams, Carey depicts idealized utopian scenario and corresponding loss of townspeople's cultural identity – this fantasy of the "American dream" emerges like one of the story's main motifs. Parallel to their mystification of the American way of life, the people of a place called Bacchus Marsh develop a negative attitude towards their own town, being dull and insignificant, as depicted in the words of the narrator's father: "nothing more than a stopping place. Somewhere on the way to somewhere else" (Edelson). The exact location of the Carey's remote, no one–wants–to–live–in town is unknown, even though there are some indications that it is in rural Australia. Carey uses figurative language and magic realism to achieve a sense of hidden meaning. Some toponyms really exist, like the fictional Bald Hill and actual ones with the same purpose of serving as lookouts – "On Bald Hill are half a dozen telescopes through which the Americans can spy on the town..." (Edelson). The situational irony takes the reader to the opening of the story and the narrator's depiction of the locals at the Roxy – "for years we have watched ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As a child he picked coffee beans to make money for his family. He went to the University of Colorado and was in their Air Force ROTC program and studied aerospace engineering. Ellison Onizuka impacted space exploration by becoming the first Asian American in space, working on the IUS on the Discovery mission, and the tragic fate of the Challenger mission. Onizuka's first major accomplishment was becoming the first Asian American in space. "Onizuka became the first Asian American in space in January of 1985 when he joined the crew of the Discovery for the shuttle program's first Department of Defense mission" (Encyclopedia.com, 2018). Onizuka was the type of person that never forgot where he came from. He remembers being a little kid in Hawaii and dreaming of becoming an astronaut. He feels he can have an impact on the next generation of young Hawaiians and minorities around the world. That they can become something even when the odds seem low. • 13. The Relationship Between The Pre Plant Nitrate N And... gure 1 shows the relationship between the pre–plant nitrate–N and relative yield of wheat. At the Australian level, the CV90 of 47kg N/ha has a narrow CR90 of 43–51kg nitrate–N/ha. However when the data is presented in terms of states, Queensland, Victoria and South Australia, differences between CV90 and CR90 are evident. The lowest CV90 is Queensland with 43kg nitrate–N/ha, followed by South Australia with 55kg nitrate–N/ha and the highest value is for Victoria at 62kg nitrate–N/ha. Corresponding to the CV90 values are the CR90 values with Queensland 39–48kg nitrate–N/ha, SA 50–61kg nitrate–N/ha and Victoria 47–82kg nitrate–N/ha. Whilst Queensland and South Australia have similarly narrow CR90 values, Victoria's CR90 is wider. This indicates many high–yielding trials producing Ymax in excess of 4 or 5t/ha and a similar number of low–yielding trials, averaging 5t/ha. The r value for each relationship was as follows: 1–2t/ha, 0.36; 2–3t/ha, 0.45; 3–4t/ha, 0.38; 4–5t/ha, 0.69 and >5t/ha, 0.63. From Figure 3, increasing in–crop rainfall has resulted in a trend of small increases in soil nitrate–N kg/ha demand for Queensland and South Australian data. Against the trend is the Queensland >250mm value which showed a decline in value to 36 nitrate–N kg/ha from the previous 200– 250mm demand for 44 nitrate–N kg/ha. In contrast, the South Australian wheat data has continued to use higher soil nitrate–N values, of 53 nitrate–N kg/ha at 350mm, without any decline at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Transportation Advantages And Disadvantages The type of transport that an individual uses daily not only affect themselves, but also the wider community. There are many factors that are likely to affect how an individual makes decisions. Some decisions are made rationally, others are not. In the past decade, both cities of Greater Melbourne and Perth are being affected by people's transportation choices. The rapid increase in population across Australian cities, especially Melbourne and Perth means that the government is looking for solutions to reduce problems such as raising levels of pollution, congestion and travel time. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) the residential population of Greater Melbourne has increased by 2.1% and Greater Perth has increased by 1.6%, during the period of June 2014 to June 2015 (2017). Consequently, this steep increase in population means that the transport infrastructure in both cities is being put under increasing pressure. Therefore, to cope with the rising population, both cities have expanded their public transportation network. In the year of 2015–16 in Perth, 6,850 Transperth train services were run weekly (Public Transport Authority 2017) and in Melbourne there are over 2,200 week day services and more than 3000 services during the weekends (Metro Trains Melbourne 2017). As seen in the graph above, both Perth and Melbourne are showing strong trends of growth. Furthermore, the steep incline in Perth from 2007 can be explained by the opening of the Mandurah train line in 2007. From 2006, Melbourne is showing a rapid growth, this is because in the 2006 Commonwealth games occurred in Melbourne (Changing Transport 2012). Moreover, both cities also experienced population growth therefore this may account for the public transport growth. Private transportation such as cars are very popular with the Australian public. Around 76% of all vehicles accounted for in 2013 were passenger vehicles (ABS 2014). Cars have become increasingly affordable and offer greater mobility therefore more Australians are choosing them over public transportation (ABS 2014). • 17. The Contribution Of Victoria Claflin Woodhull Victoria Claflin Woodhull was born on September 23rd, 1838 in Homer, Ohio. She was an extremely talented and gifted individual who received little to no education throughout her lifetime. She did not attend school until much later, when she was about eight or nine years old. Nevertheless, Victoria knew at a very young age that it was her destiny to accomplish great things. She was typically admired by women because of her courageous acts of individualism. She was fearless and was not afraid to stand up for what she believed in which was shocking at the time, because women's issues were not taken into consideration. She was truly a remarkable and a powerful figure during the 19th century in the United States. She is notably recognized for being the first woman in history to run for president in the United States in 1872, as well as the first woman to ever address Congress regarding women 's suffrage in 1871. She was a passionate feminist, an advocate for equal education for women, civil rights, she supported women 's right to vote, and believed that women should have the right to be in control of their own lives and have the freedom to make their own decisions. She also believed in the concept of "free love", which gave women the freedom to marry, divorce, and have children if they so pleased without the government, or anyone else for that matter, controlling them or telling them what to do in their situation. She is most well–known for being the first woman to ever run for President of the United States of America. As well as being a Presidential canidate for the 1872 election, she was also a women's rights leader, a businesswoman, and a medium. She lived a very controversial life, from being the breadwinner of her family, to being thrown in jail. She was a radical reformer, she believed in self–governing, and that all women have the right to choose what's best for them, and in some cases, if that meant being a prostitute, then that was perfectly fine. Victoria was a fire–cracker. She became very involved in everything she believed in. In this paper I intend to summarize breifly the life of Victoria Woodhull, while also discussing her views on self– governing, the impact she made on the women's suffrage movement, and also the obstacles she encountered through this turmoilous journey. Victoria Claflin was born September 23, 1838 in Homer, Ohio. She was the daughter of Buck Claflin and Anna Claflin. In her later years she had painted her childhood as white picket fence, perfect home, but, in reality it was far from it. Her dad was the town's crook, and her mother was looked at differently because of her ability to speak with spirits, a talent that Victoria found she also had. Although many of the more unique buildings are small, they display plenty of character through their colours, shape and materials. I took a sunny afternoon to take a walking tour of Downtown Victoria and there were various buildings that gave me different feelings as well as having my mind make connections to buildings I've seen elsewhere. First being 560 Yates Street's Oriental Building, where I was reminded of a New York City style apartment which was short, made of rustic red brick, displaying rounded window followed by having that tinted brown giving it that old and dirty look. Then there was a sudden switch as I came across 1675 Douglas Street's Terasen Gas Building. The Terasen Gas building was very generic and modern office looking building. This type of building was one where if you came across a photo of it, you wouldn't be able to pin point where it came from, meaning it could be anywhere in the world. The last and top favourite building that struck out to me was Centennial Square's City Hall building. This building was my favourite for various reasons one being able to capture that Eurocentric feel that happens to be one of my favourite styles of buildings. • 56. Victoria Woodhull In The 1800's As the first female to run for presidency in 1872, Victoria Woodhull defied the stereotypes that society has placed on the female gender in the 1800's. At the era where women were not allowed to speak their minds, complain, or even have any desire for independence, she was able to create a standing for those without a voice. From creating her own radical publication to the establishment of the Equal Rights Party, Woodhull was known to be quite a bold and outspoken person. But in a society where a woman's opinion was viewed to be unrealistic and unimportant, she was often disregarded; even so this did not drag her down as she aimed to change the world. Victoria, along with her sister, established the Woodhull and Claflin's Weekly in 1870. There, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 58. George Washington Secret Six Analysis George Washington's Secret Six presents the somewhat untold story of the Culper spy ring. The ring was formed after the death of Captain Nathan Hale who was Washington's first spy, in the aftermath of his death Washington decided that he would do everything in his power to keep his spies from meeting an unfortunate demise. With the help of Major Benjamin Tallmadge, the roots for the Culper spy ring were laid. The ring was designed to keep the identities of the members a secret at all costs. The Culper ring operated out of British occupied New York where all the members were generally considered to be loyal to Britain. The ring's members were Abraham Woodhull, Robert Townsend, Caleb Brewster, James Rivington, Benjamin Tallmadge, Austin Roe, and Agent 355. They communicated using clothesline messaging, dead drops, invisible ink that only reacted to a secret chemical, code names, and coded messages. The ring successfully brought light to Benedict Arnold's treason, the British plan to ambush French troops as soon as they landed, as well as keeping accurate information on troops and ships in New York. The ring only suffered the loss of one member, this was outstanding considering that the ring was quite large and operated in British controlled New York. Given the effectiveness of the ring, the Continental army might have been defeated if the Culper Spy Ring didn't exist. George Washington's Secret Six was constructed by Brian Kilmeade and Don Yeager. Kilmeade is a political ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This notion is represented hand in hand with the romanticisation of the bush through the glorified characterisation of 'The Man', exemplifying him as the perfect bushman and more importantly as an underdog. The described imagery of, "Stripling on a small and weedy beast", Denotes the Man as the underdog, however, he carries all the attributes idealised of Australian. This is shown through the personification of: "And the stock–whips woke the echoes, and they fiercely answered back" The poem heroistically connects the romanticism of the bush and landscape to the historically referenced obsession with the underdog. That, and the previously mentioned social context define the values, assumptions and voice of the poem and of Australia at that time, one that shows courage and perseverance even in the face of adversity – a constituently elemental voice. Kath Walker's poem 'Municipal Gum' (written in 1960) is a representation of the struggles of the Aboriginal people, shown through an active, responsive voice reflective of the values and assumptions and the context during that time. Entrapment, displacement and suffering are accentuated by the use of literary and poetic devices, and combined with the social context, form the changed voice of the poem. Displacement is represented starting with the juxtaposition of the title.

  • 67. Should Greyhound Racing Be Banned Across All States Across... A couple of years ago, Australia watched on from their tellies as 'Four Corners' unraveled the darkest of secrets in modern day greyhound racing. We exposed the gruesome sport for what it is, a lower class 'Melbourne Cup' which sends a clear and undeniable statement that the GRV (Greyhound Racing Victoria) have a lack of motivation and desire to fix the sport. The allegations that live baiting is used during training and the corruption surrounding the policing of the sport, further supports the idea that greyhound racing should indefinitely be banned in all states across Australia. Greyhound racing is completely out dated and will leave future generations puzzled at why we encouraged the continuation of this disgusting sport. Fear, a common misconception regarding the GRV. Greyhound Racing Victoria, an institution which has no ethical values. The constant reminder which is apparent when discussing the lack of motivation and desire to fix the sport, they so dearly cherish. The underwhelming reality of the situation that they simply just don't care, or don't have the 'resources' to make an impact. Is the GRV ready to take serious consideration of the recent events, and make a formal statement regarding the live baiting training centers? Or is the Australian Government forced to ban the sport across all states? I personally think that Greyhound Racing should be banned across all states because, the industry once promised that they 'would do better' back in 2015, but enough is ... • 78. The Comstock Era And The 19th Century The Comstock Era was very important in the 19th century. It affected a lot of people good and bad during this time. Also, many leaders were presented in this era such as Victoria Woodhull and Tennie Claflin. However, some of these events still occur in current United States politics such as "free love." Whether or not it's better or worse free love still continues and is brought up during protests or conferences. In this essay, I will explain the Comstock era and the role Woodhull and Claflin played in it. I will also talk about how free love is part of U.S. politics how it relates to feminism in the 21st century. The Comstock era was when the Comstock law was passed in 1873 and was part of a campaign for legislating public morality. The purpose of this law was to stop the trade in obscenity literatures and immoral articles. It also was towards birth control usage, abortion, and human sexuality. If you were caught using it or selling it you would be sentenced to jail. Also, during this time the industrial revolution was making a large number of jobs available to members of both sexes, and women were taking advantage of this opportunity by entering the workforce in large numbers. Victoria and Tennie were extremely active in the politics of the United States. Between the two sisters, there are a lot of firsts. Its Price per share reduced from Financial Year 2010 which had a value of $15.2 to a low in Financial Year 2011 of $7.6, before increasing to $17 in Financial Year 2015, its maximum was in the Financial Year 2013 with a whopping $23.5. Across this period Earnings Per Share (EPS) have averaged $0.18 which again makes no difference as it was changing simultaneously.
