Traditional Schools Vs. Year-Round Schools
Would you rather be home playing video games or going on vacations during the summer or in
school? Year round schools are TERRIBLE. They spend way too much money, and they have to run
their AC all summer long. They have to pay a lot of money to keep bus drivers and other staff
members.
Year round schools are 230 days and traditional schools are 180 days. Year round schools have 9
weeks of school and then a 2–3 week break. Traditional schools have breaks near the holidays and a
2–3 month break in the summer. Traditional schools don't have to run there A/C all summer long.
Year round schools do because they have to go through the summer.
My first reason that I am against year round schools is that they spend way too much money. They

The Length Of School Calendar
Length of School Calendar For every problem there is a solution. However, no solution can be
found by running in three different directions. The same thing can be said about the current
education system in the United States. Everyone has his or her own way of "fixing" the current
program and everyone wants to solve it in a different manner. Recently, the main focus has been on
improving the United States standardized test score rankings among other countries. The country
has been scoring incredibly low for how developed we are considered to be. Several solutions have
been proposed: get rid of standardized tests all together, fire all teachers who students test low, or
implement a different school calendar. Clearly action needs to be taken ... Show more content on

It is clear that summer seems to be causing a huge gap in education. The students remember more
when they spend less time out of the classroom. This is why year round school is a better option for
students. A common misunderstanding of the year round school year is that the school has more
days than an original school year. In all actuality, students in both types of schooling only attend
around 180 days. The only difference is that students in year–round attend school with different
arrangement in breaks. It is called the "45/15 plan." This is allows students to spend 45 days in the
classroom and then take a 15 day break. By following this plan students do not forget as much
material they learn. There is not much time to forget it. Students take a short break from school and
then roll right from one grade to another. By students remembering more, teachers do not have to
spend weeks reviewing the material students should have remembered from the previous year. Year
round schooling adds on time to the learning year without literally added more time. Not only does
the year round school system improve memory recall for students, it also eases transitions for them.

Analysis Of A Long Way Gone By Ishmael Beah
Ishmael Beah was an ordinary twelve year old boy from Sierra Leone, until one night changed his
entire life. The author of A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy soldier is Ishmael Beah himself
because he wanted to portray his life journey for readers to understand what life is like for children
fighting to survive during warfare. Also, going through trauma is never easy, but however it's one of
the only ways people can learn from their mistakes and prevent them from happening in future
generations. It's best for people to speak up about their experiences like Elie Wiesel did in writing
Night so no one ever doubts anything that actually happen. This young teenage boy converts into
this cold blooded killer into a person committing himself to the survival of others Ishmael Beah
transformed from an ordinary twelve year old boy, into an enraged killing soldier and then to a man
that speaks up for children affected by these wars.
Much like 12 year old boys in our own culture, Ishmael, his brother Junior, friends Talloi and
Mohamed, lived the dream of performing in a rap group together. One evening, they left their
village help out a friend promote his local talent show. Once they arrived at the neighboring village,
the friends learn that their home had been attacked by rebels. "It was a typical aspect of being in the
war. Things changed rapidly in a matter of seconds. And no one had any control over anything. We
had yet to learn these things and implement survival tactics, which

There Should Be Year Round School Essay
Should schools be year round. Year round school could help in many reasons. It could help with
academic achievement. It could be horrible though, because it would ruin family plans. There have
been a ton of arguments about if this should be a thing or not. The whole country would be affected
in a terrific way and a horrible way, if the summer was removed, I would be on the pro side for
some certain reasons.
"Removing any sort of a long break from school can improve a child's academic achievement," The
Pros and Cons of year round school stated. If we took away break, then we would be more like a
genius and more people could go to college and get better jobs. People might not fail as much. Kids
would be able to get more scholarships. We would remember all of the things in school and be
smarter the next year. Kids would not be held back or have to go to summer school. It would help
the family because they might not have to pay for college and summer school. Kids could work
better in groups because they would be with those people during the year much longer than "Though
it may seem fun, a summer break can often lead to boredom," The Pros and Cons of year round
school stated. If we shorten our breaks, then we would be less bored all ... Show more content on

could plan on different holidays. Parents also work a ton in the summer. They wouldn't be able to

parents have the weekend as well. They could make plans then. Family doesn't need the summer to

Year Round School Advantages
The children that watch a lot of Tvs have lower grades, don't read as much and could have health
problems. In the summer they watch TV and don't get exercise. If you go to year round school you
won't have much time to watch TV. Year–round schooling is positive because it gives students more
frequent breaks to relax, it improves test scores, and there is no summer school.
Year–round schooling is unlike regular schooling in many good and bad ways. An example is how
schooling year–round will save time in school and outside of school. Due to the shorter summers
schooling year–round would make you have more frequent breaks and gives you time to shift their
way of thinking from less–active to sharp learning models! Sence schooling year round would not

Some ways they help the school is some schools use a "multi–track system" which the school is
divided into four tracks then 3 out of 4 tracks could be in school while the other track could be on
vacation and they switch out. The multi–track system helps overcrowded schools and stress of
having too many students. Another thing that helps the schools is portable room dividers that also
helps to solve overcrowding. The room dividers create more flexible space and it quickly changes
the look and use of any given space at any time. Finally the last way to help the school is to help the
achievement gap. The dropout ratings of schooling year–round are 2% but the dropout rate of
minority school is 5%! Schooling year–round has lower dropout ratings because they have less time
to adjust to being off of school.
Schooling year–round keeps kids on task, help retain information better and even if you don't get
time to work in the summer with minimum wage jobs, schooling year–round makes high school
graduates earn about $11,000 more per year than minority

How Calendars Can Be Long And Dreadful Enough For Those?
Schools seem to be long and dreadful enough for certain people, but others around the world find
school timing sufficient. Schools have two different types of calendars which each school around the
world follows one of the two calendars throughout the whole school year. The two types of school
calendars are the traditional school calendar and the year– round school calendar. People try so hard
to decide which school they should go to, but do not know because they know both calendars have
certain benefits and certain negatives. Some people think that all kinds of schools should just stick
to one schedule and it is the traditional school calendar or the year round school calendar. They want
their live to be easier on most students around the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some people say that the year–round calendar schools are better while other say traditional calendar
schools are better. As a student I think that the year–round schools might help certain people by
maybe not all.
Certain schools around the world use the year – round school calendar, which is not so popular,
because not everybody knows the benefits of the year – round school calendar. Year round schools
calendars are calendars which are somewhat similar to the traditional school calendars, because
Year– round school students go to school for approximately "180" days each year, which is the same
amount of school days the traditional calendar students go to school each year. Schools traditionally
run on a ten–month calendar, beginning in the late summer or early fall until late spring or early
summer, but the year– round schools changed that up a little and have students go to school
throughout the whole year. Usually in year–round calendar schools, students and teachers go to
school for certain amount of days and have a break after that, the most popular type is they go to
school for 45 days of school than have 15 days of break. Also, while traditional school calendar
students take two weeks off on winter break, year–round school students take three weeks off.
However, when traditional school students take off three months during summer break, year round
school students only take one month off because

Graduation Speech : Year Round Schooling
Year–Round Schooling The average school period is one hundred and eighty days with small breaks
in between and a three–month break during summer to ease students' minds and let them relax. The
Board of Education should make all schools in the United States year–round to increase educational
time and decrease the loss of knowledge over the breaks. It gives students the same time to relax and
plan family vacations periodically throughout the year, but never creates the stress of changing sleep
schedules that summer break changes. Not only is it a good way to enhance education, but it also is
better for planning family events, positive effects on budget, academic achievement, and could
decrease the absence rate of students. There is controversy over whether or not summer break makes
kids forget what they should have previously learned. Coming from myself, a senior in high school,
summer break is all about forgetting school and living it up during the duration of the break. This
causes teachers to have to pretest students to see what all they actually did remember and then go
over the same material trying to get them to remember. With year–round schooling you do not have
to worry as much about the loss of learning. The longest break with year–round schooling is three
weeks. Any break will causes some memory loss but the three month break that regular schooling
provides makes the chances not remembering material increase greatly. Year–round schooling,

Why We Should Not Year Round School
Year round schooling Is more beneficial than non year round schooling. Some think there should not
be year round schooling, but others think there should be year round schooling.Research shows that
there Is no change for learning In year round schooling, but however some research has shown they
learn way more. There should be year round schooling. Reason number 1: You will learn way more
than just 9 months of school. Reason number 2: It will increase more respect for teachers quickly.
Reason number 3: Students will be able to advance more quickly.
The first reason Is that you will learn way more than just having a 9 month calendar of schooling.
For an example you will be so use to the stuff you learned It's built In your head. Also studies have
found that disadvantage of students lose about 27% more of their learning because of the long
summer breaks, spring breaks, and winter. Plus having days days off. Students will be more
advanced to the next school year why? Well first of all you don't forget what you learned. It's gonna
have you prepared for college because of the grades that showed. In addition students may not like
year round schooling, but at least you're getting better at things you haven't understood before.

For an example the more time you see the students and teachers everyday you won't think of them
as a babysitter because the more and more you see them work It's just like okay there Is no point to
be rude. Also year round schooling offers to change the precipitation in the teachers. They won't be
so hard on the students. The most Important example of this reason Is teachers are taking the year
and their time to have these students be smart! (Filed Under: General Interest, Tagged With:

A Long Way Gone Analysis
"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere," wrote Martin Luther King Jr. in his letter
from Birmingham Jail. Ishmael Beah, author of the book A Long Way Gone speaks from
experience. He was plagued with a war in his home country, taking away his childhood and family.
This injustice caused him to have to fight in the war and resort to drugs to take away his mental and
physical pain. Similarly, in One Crazy Summer by Rita Williams–Garcia, Delphine and her sisters
struggle with the injustice that is not knowing their mother at the ages of eleven, nine, and seven,
and the injustice of being black during a time period when people are segregated because of their
color. Their father hesitantly flies them across the United States to see their mother that they haven't
met before, and who has secrets of her own. In both books, the children are forced to grow up faster
than they should and take care of themselves and others, and since they are children it is more
difficult to deal with the situations that are hard even for a grown person. When a person is forced to
start a new life because of an injustice, they are going to be nervous; but over time when they meet
people, they will gain confidence to speak out.
In order for someone to be able to gain confidence, he or she has to be comfortable with his or her
mental and physical state. Ishmael starts his journey scared and worried that his family is dead. He
struggles through the war hoping to eventually be reunited with his

Does Year-Round School Benefit Students?
¨With year–round schooling, my child is much happier and self–confident now, and I know she will
be well–prepared for the future,¨ said Savita Sanders. Year–round schooling does NOT mean that
there are more school days. There will always be 180 days. I believe that year–round schooling will
benefit students in many ways. These are three reasons why I believe that. The students won't forget
over summer, there will be more opportunities for vacations, and it makes ¨bearing with school¨
easier. Primarily, the students won't forget the information taught over the summer, and summers
aren't as long. In a traditional calendar, the summer break is long, so students forget, causing
teachers to review the previous year's information for the

The Pros And Cons Of Year-Round Schooling
"They do not view YRE as a calendar configuration for space, achievement, or enrichment, but
rather as a part of the transformation toward a philosophy of long continuous learning." (Guthrie).
One of the main purposes of Year–Round Schooling is to lower the break time between school
sessions. This causes children to have a better chance of retaining the knowledge that they learned
from the previous year (Wyoming Tribune Eagle). Year–round schools consist of the same amount
of school days, 180 days, the difference is that it is spread out over 12 months instead of the original

Since this is a controversial school schedule due to the shorter summer break, each school system
should have a string of schools (elementary, middle, and high school) try the schedule out for five–
years and track the improvement throughout the years. Teachers no longer feel as if they are on the
edge of a breakdown because of the new system. Since the teachers and students are in school for
nine weeks have a week of break, they can know look forward to up to two or three weeks of break.
With the cut down on the summer break to add to the other breaks throughout the year, students
have a better chance of retaining knowledge. It would be beneficial for schools to switch to the
year–round school schedule because the teachers are happier and not on the verge of a breakdown,
the breaks are longer, and the students retain the knowledge from the previous

Argumentative Essay: Year-Round Schools
Duke University once said, In many ways, year–round schools fit better with American lifestyles.
From the school year 1987–1988 to the school year 2002–2003, there was a 544 percent expansion
in the usage of year–round school implementations among the public schools of the United States.
Fortunately, the number is still growing. The United States' students are falling behind students in
other countries with our current style of schooling. Year–round school is a solution to that problem.
Most year–round schools have the same amount of days as traditional–calendar schools. The only
difference is how the way days are arranged so summer vacation is shortened and more spread out.
This way, fall, spring, and winter breaks are longer. Despite the fact that numerous individuals feel
that year–round school is a terrible idea that will ruin summer vacation, schools in the United States
should embrace a year–round school policy.

Should Children Forced To Be A Soldier?
A typical child is thought of as a innocent, gentle kid. Kids do no real harm, and is at their purest out
of their lifetime. Many people do not think that a child could be a soldier. The sad truth is, this is the
world we live in. A world where children are becoming soldiers. Children in Somalia and many
other countries are being forced into being a soldier. Not only forced , but being drugged,
threatened, and brainwashed. These kids are not kids anymore. They are forcefully being recruited
as weapons. Some parents are selling their children to get money. There are some that volunteer, but

Long Vacation Vs Year Round School
Nowadays, schools across the country tend to switch their schedule to a year–round curriculum,
which suggests that both teachers and students no longer have the traditional two months of summer
vacation. However, many proponents of an extended summer vacation contend that long vacation
each year is better for students. As the seemingly simple notion of several short vacations
throughout the year triggers a firestorm of debate, we need to understand the realistic effects of
several short vacations. If students have more frequent breaks, they can avoid the brain drain.
Several short breaks also make it easier to get a fresh start when necessary. Finally, I think that the
purpose for which long summer vacation was introduced is no longer exist.
First of all, frequent short break is the antidote of the dreaded brain drain that students experience
during the summer vacation. Most of the cases, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The traditional American school year consists of a nine month schedule requiring 180 days in the
classroom. This schedule was designed when America was still a largely agrarian country. At that
time, this system was established due to children were often needed to work in the fields during the
summer period. As those reasons no longer make sense in this modern era, I support year–round
education instead of nine–month school year.
In a nutshell, I think several short vacations are better than long summer vacation in many ways.
Students are able to rest and regain energy in between the classes and exams, and their recollection
of lesson is considerably enhanced. Furthermore, it also meets teachers' high demand for their time
at the end of grading period. Lastly, the long summer vacation is not what is best for today's students
since traditional long summer vacation is no longer essential. So, I believe it is a plan that every

What Are The Pros And Cons Of Year Round School
Year Round Schooling Schedule We adapt to change in our everyday lives, whether it's changing a

very common in this world today. So, why can't we change public schools (like Hermon Middle

year round in 2012 according to research done by theweek.com. and many sites like neatoday.org
believe that the pros of year round schools weigh out the cons because of the spaced out vacations, a
more amount of time to learn, and the extra funding. What's a good way schools prevent academic
burnout? Vacations. Each vacation for year round schools have 15 days with every 45 school days

fee helps pay for equipment and coaching. This meaning when you play sports your fees for that

Schooling of Tomorrow
Keeping children in school is imperative, and with a dropout rate of 7,000 American students a day,
the current schooling system is failing. Year–round schooling promotes continuous learning because
students are not spending large amounts of time over the summer without intellectual stimulation.
This style of learning offers students with a sixty twenty year round calendar, meaning students have
sixty days of instruction, followed by a twenty day break. Subsequently, still awarding students with
the same amount of vacation time as traditional schooling however, these days are distributed evenly
throughout the year. Year–round schooling, offers terrific benefits to teachers and students during
and outside of school. Year–round schools provide both students and teachers with many benefits
during the long school hours. Close studies by teenink.com, a website dedicated to researching
educational programs, shows when students attend the year–round school schedule, they are able to
regenerate more frequently (teenink.com). Clearly showing that schools abiding to the method of

Year–Round Schooling: The Way to Go
Many people feel that no school should have a year–round schedule because it is not right for
children be in school year round. Despite this feeling, many schools have changed their schedule to
a year–round one to benefit their students as well as their teachers. Year–round schooling (YRS),
also know as year–round education (YRE), is a good way to better students' education. It betters
students' education by provided more frequent breaks, and giving student opportunites to participate
in inter–sessions.
The first year–round school in the United States was in Bluffton, Indiana in the year 1904. The
purpose of changing their schedule to a year–round one was to increase the school building capacity,

The 45–15 and 45–10 schedules are divided into 45 school days and 15, or 10, days of vacation. The
60–20 and 60–15, and the 45–15 and 45–10 plans can be, and usually are, combined with either the
single or multi–track systems. In the Concept 6 plan, the school year is divided into six 43 day
terms. This term is similar to block scheduling. Students and teachers go to two consecutive sessions
and then they have one session off (Palmer Bemis, 1999).
Some of the perceived advantages are: improved achievement, improved teacher and student
attendance, reduction in discipline problems, reduction in teacher stress, increased motivation
among teachers and students after returning refreshed from more frequent breaks, and increased
availability of enrichment opportunities during inter–sessions (Palmer Bemis, 1999).
Students normally feel more refreshed after breaks and are willing to get back into learning and
doing school work. Since there are many breaks in a year–round schedule, students learn more due

The Benefits Of Year-Round School
Vacations with the whole family can be a blast! But year–round school can take that away. Although
year–round school can help students stay focused on what they are learning in school it is destroying
the time that kids spend on sports and vacations with their family.
To begin with, kids need fresh air; they need to be outside playing with their friends they don't need
to be stuck in a classroom for six weeks. Not being able to get exercise is not a good thing for kids
they need to be outside exercising not stuck in a classroom. In Source one paragraph four it says If
students are in school year–round it make it difficult from them to have a summer job and a sports
team's' schedules. Kids need to be outside but thanks to year–round it

Pros And Cons Of Year-Round School
Around 3,181 schools over our country have all year–round –schooling. Some people feel that year–
round schooling is very beneficial for the kids. Others feel that a nine–month school year is a plenty
and that children need the long summer break. There are certainly pros and cons to both ideas.
Which one is really the best, though? I feel that the traditional school calendar is the best way to go.
A traditional school year is what most of us are use to. Some of the main pros to this type of school
year is the long summer break. It allows open calendar for family time, vacations, summer camps
and freedom for the students and the teachers. There is a con though to this type of schedule. With
that long break comes the issue of the summer slide

Year Round School Research Paper
Year round schooling, the name seems much worse than it is. A typical belief of year round
schooling is that students attend more days at school because they are in school a year long, but
instead they break the long three–month break into smaller pieces. Year round schooling provides a
more beneficial education to students of all ages. With the all year schedule students do not spend a
long period away from the classroom; therefore, students are able to maintain their knowledge.
Traditional schooling is still widely implemented among the United States even though the statistics
are proven against it. Year round education needs to be incorporated in every school system; it has

The opposers of year round schooling have little argument to work with, but stress it strongly. The
summer is a prime time for high school students to pick up short–term jobs to help pay for looming
college fees, jobs like being a lifeguard at the pool is not available all year round throughout the
United States. College students also have the opportunity to enroll in summer classes in order to
meet pre–requisites for other classes. Summer classes could be a deciding factor on how early a
student graduates. Also, a three–month summer break creates an easier, less stressful timeframe to
plan a vacation. Instead of working a vacation into the shorter, known breaks of year round
schooling, parents have three months to figure their week long vacation into. The most powerful
argument is the effect on extracurricular activities. The frequent, short breaks in year round
schooling would have an effect on extracurriculars like band because it would be required that they
take the vacation off and could miss potential time to prepare before a performance. The traditional
schooling system is still the majority in the United States even with very few benefits and no
advantage over year round

Should Fees Be Paid For School Sports?
How and why are fees good for school sports? Because then the child won't have to pay for classes,
and books. This shows that paying fees for school, you won't have to pay much for sports or
activities, it can even be the other way around. Also school comes first before anything, and it is
important to have a good education so for example, in Chicago, they get extra money from their
state, because many of the students in Chicago are poor, and they need money for sports, school, and
more. In the text it said Often, schools get extra funding so they can have lower–to–play fees.
Some charge nothing for activity fees. This shows that fees are good for sports because it will get

this system to help kids to help them find what sport to play. ... Show more content on

They teach kids about leadership and teamwork, and sports could keep kids fit too. If schools limit
fees for playing a school sport, they should limit fees for classes, too. Schools also need more
money, and instead of fees they should do fund–raisers or book fairs to raise more money. Fees keep
many students from learning their talents, so schools should not do fees for school sports

Argumentative Essay On Year Round School
For decades, primary and secondary schools are stuck in tradition of having school for nine months
and having several long breaks including a two–month summer break. Several states in the United
States and in Canada have been throwing around the idea of year–round school. Some say that year–
round schooling is a good thing for the children and others say that the children need a break from
school, but also have a higher chance of forgetting the material before they return to school the
following year. With year–round school, its focusing more on the students' education and not the
convivence for parents and school board. With having year–round schools, students will be able to
obtain more information and perform better in the classroom. The children will learn more in the
classroom along with learning outside on their own. In the article, Why does education stop in
summer by editor Sylvia Stead, it states that a lot can be forgotten in the space of eight or 10
weeks. Given this information it causes schools to give a second thought to changing to year–round
school. Year–round schools have been proven to help children learn better in the classroom and
outside. It helps maintain the students learning process to be able to focus more on helping them
retain the information and keep it throughout the school year. Stead has seen how the school year
has been set up to only be nine months with a summer break and she is now seeing the school year
as year–round. She grew up

Pros And Cons Of Year-Round Schooling
Is Year–Round Schooling as Bad as it Seems? When a person first mentions the idea of year–round
schooling, their comment is usually met with a look of dread. The image of year–round schooling is
that students must go to school every day throughout the entire year with no breaks. This is an
untrue image. Students are given frequent breaks throughout the school year to make up for the
shorter summer break. It was first used in the 1800s, which goes against many people's thoughts that
it is a new alternative schooling proposal (Research). At that time year–round schooling was used in
industrial cities to teach English to children of immigrants. By the early 1900s, year–round
schooling was used as a method to reduce overcrowding, underfunding, ... Show more content on

Year–round schooling could make those vacations more difficult. Even though there is a shorter
summer break using year–round schooling, there is still enough time for families to go on a long
summer vacation. In fact, because of the way a balanced calendar is set up, there are different
opportunities for vacations. In year–round schooling there are multiple breaks after each quarter.
These can allow families to go on vacation on seasons other than summer, and have more frequent,
smaller breaks during the year (Year–round). The cost for plane tickets and some other expenses of a
vacation could be reduced. This could occur because if going on vacation during an offseason, plane
tickets are generally less expensive (Year–round). With standard schooling there are times when
families want to go on vacation. The problem is that there either is not a break that the family could
go during, or the break is not long enough for the vacation the family wants (Flanagan). This causes
the student to miss school, and with that tests, lessons, and homework. It can be hard for students to
get caught up and fully understand the information that they missed during their time off of school
(Flanagan). The frequent break would help with this and make planning vacations more easy.

School Essay: Should School Be Year Round School?
Should School Be Year Round
School's being year round has existed since the early 1800s, it has led to many argument's, some
agree with it and some are against it. The first school that went against the version of having the
summer off were in the urban areas like Chicago and New York. They believed that having the
summer off for student is setting them up for failure, while others believed that students having a
long break is a must so they could catch up on hanging out with their friends and doing other things
other than school. Researchers say that 2 million U.S students attend school on year round schedule

Year round school affects students summer vacation trips in so many ways. When a school
switches to year round school systems, it causes summer to disappear. Usually family vacations are
planned around the summer to see family members, spend time as a family, and relax, more. When
students have long summer breaks and come back to a new start there is less stress in the classroom
and fewer absences. Says researchers. Students don't only need education in their life they need life
experience also, working outside of school or participating outside of school makes student learn
more and it also prepares them for their future life. If you take away a student's ability to have a
vacation you increase the risk of burnt out. Says Barton Joe, Many agree with this because students
will be tired of going to school and they most likely will drop out. And also students need to have
fun and go hang out with their friend for a break. If a kid went to school year round he/she would
be so focused in education that they would miss out on important things that are not taught in school
such as friendships or having fun. Says Clark Charles. That statement is true says many because it

Nooooo, is what most kids say when you tell them they have to go to year round school. But really

Why Should Schools Adopt Year-Round Education?
Imagine a student sitting in a classroom in the middle of July not because the student is in summer

want to find new easy ways to help students learn more and not lose information, so the government

idea. Schools should adopt year round education because students will remember more and will still
get the same amount of school days but get breaks more frequently than the standard school

One of the reasons why schools should adopt year round education is because the students will

Examples Of Loss Of Innocence In A Long Way Gone
We went from children who were afraid of gunshots to now children who were gunshots...
Shooting became just like drinking a glass of water (Barnett, 2012). Ishmael Beah, the main
character and writer of the novel A Long Way Gone is a clear example of the loss of innocence that
war causes. During the Sierra Leone's civil war, Beah is recruited as a child soldier and eventually
turned into a cold–blooded killer with no sign of naivety in his body. At a tender age, Beah is trained
to kill, mutilate and terrify dozens of people, which causes him to be bared to a flood of disturbing
scenes; transform into a murderer; loose all sense of emotion; and in time, lose his innocence. In the

To start with, the story begins when Ishmael and his rap–passionate friends are all headed to Mattru
Jong for a talent show, I left home with Junior...and Talloi...to go to the town of Mattru Jong, to
participate in our friends talent show (Beah, p.6). As one can see, he was just a vulnerable, naive
boy before mayhem broke loose around him. Moreover, Ishmael endures an extremely perilous
adventure in the jungle while fleeing war. But even though he evaded real danger for a while, he was
never able to elude his imaginary fears, I felt as if somebody was after me. Often my shadow
would scare me and cause me to run for miles. Everything felt awkwardly brutal. Even the air
seemed to want to attack me and break my neck (Beah, p.49). According to this situation, Ishmael
was nothing more than a scared little boy who is simply running for his life. Even though this is a
good point, it fails to account for the multiple massacres Ishmael contributed to,...I angrily pointed
my gun into the swamp and shot more people. I shot everything that moved... (Beah, p.119). How
can one be innocent and naive after picking up a gun and using it against a human being? At the end
of the day, guns don't kill people, people kill people and this is exactly what Ishmael did. He killed.

Year-Round Schooling
The average American's summer break includes exciting or leisurely vacations with the family,
cookouts with the neighbors, tanning (or burning) at the pool, and watching fireworks on the 4th of
July. Although the typical kid eagerly anticipates this season, not everyone gets to enjoy a long
summer break. About 4% of America's education systems have implemented year–round schooling
in which the summer break is swapped out for shorter breaks throughout the year (Kelsey). Though
some believe year–round schooling is a better method than the traditional 9 month schedule, it
produces problems for both teachers and students.

that offering more regular breaks prevents burnout of both teachers and students (Zubrzycki).
However, if students are given homework to finish over the break (just like students are given
homework to complete over Thanksgiving or Christmas break) or teachers spend their break

Pros And Cons To Year-Round Education
Many school districts are faced with the problem of a growing student population coupled with a
shortage of school facilities and limited funds for new facilities. In response, some districts are
adopting or looking into year–round education (YRE). In addition to maximizing the use of existing
schools for larger numbers of students, some education experts claim that year–round school
improves student learning. With YRE, students attend school for the same number of days each year
(180 days, according to the U.S. Department of Education), but school breaks are arranged
differently. A popular YRE calendar uses a 60–20 plan, with students attending school for 60 days
and then going on break for 20. Other popular plans include 45–15 and 80–40. ... Show more

Cons to Year Round Education: – Multitrack year–round calendars eliminate the idea of a single
class using a single classroom. More storage space is usually required for students and teachers. –
Multitrack year–round calendars place additional demands on school support staff and on cafeteria,
custodial and maintenance services. – Special accommodations must be made for annual school
events like graduation and parent conferences. – Teachers who traditionally continue their own
education during the summer break need to find alternative forms of education and training. –
Working parents may find it harder to find childcare for shorter breaks during the year than for the
long summer break, when summer camp and other full–time activities are available. – Families with
children in different schools or districts may be faced with conflicting school break schedules. Year–

Year-round Schooling: A Simple Solution For Today’s Students
Year–round Schooling: A Simple Solution For Today's Students Summer break is supposed to be a
time of rest and rejuvenation for students. After nine months of hard work and challenging classes,
one would think such a long break could do nothing but good for students; however, this is not the
best way for young minds to learn. A three month break is far too long for children to go without
proper education and supervision. Instead of a long three month break at the end of each school
year, why not give students the same number of days off but spread them out more frequently
throughout the year? Year–round education is a more efficient, globally competitive, and fair
alternative to the traditional nine month school year. The reasons behind having a three month
summer break are outdated and do not provide any functional advantages to the present day student.
The current school year lasting nine months with a three month summer vacation is not necessary in
today's society. It originally served to allow children in rural communities help their families with
the harvest (Hemerson and Gove 8). Educators originally saw the nine month school year as a way
to maximize attendance in rural areas of the country (O'Sullivan 399). This serves no functioning
purpose in today's society. It is estimated today that only 3% of the population is involved in
agriculture (Kralovec 32). The nine month school year originally was supposed to allow more
working children to attend school, but, with

While some might enjoy a three–month long summer break, it is in the best interest of the students'
grades to attend school all year long since this leads to a more motivated classroom atmosphere.
Also, the students are more likely to remember material covered in class better if they are only gone
six weeks instead of twelve weeks for the summer. As a result of retaining the material, students will
benefit from better test scores. According to the NAYRE, of thirteen studies of year–round–
education performance since 1985...ten favored the year–round system over traditional schools and
of those, seven found statistically significant learning gains by the year–round students (Harp 2).
The world we live in is becoming more of a global market, and American students need to be able to
compete in the job market someday with people from all over. Their test scores and skills need to be
cutting edge in order to be an active participant in this global market. One disadvantage of attending
a year–round school is that it complicates family life. This is due to the fact that in a family where
one child is at a year–round school and his or her sibling is at a traditional school, they may have
separate days off of school. Then the parents may have to get one kid ready for school and prepare
activities for the other child, who is at home. This also makes it very difficult to plan family
vacations.

My Life Of The Dixie Chicks
On August 17, 2016, as I sat in row GG seat 4, I realized that my childhood had come to a close.
Just seven days shy of starting a new chapter in my life, college, I was standing in Bridgestone
Arena in the presence of the Dixie Chicks. Since I was a little girl, I have been listening to their
music through out every part of my life. I can remember as a three year old, blonde headed little girl,
my daddy would put one of their CDs in the radio and dance around the living room with me
standing on his feet. On Sunday afternoons, when I was around the age of six, my Mi–mi, Uncle
David, and I would pile into their jeep and go for a ride down some back roads with their music
playing in the background. Or as a thirteen year old girl, knowing every single word to Travelin '
Solider. Now as an eighteen year old, as I listened to the song being played, I thought to myself,
This is it. I am about to enter a brand new chapter in my life.
Rewind to six months earlier, it was Valentine 's Day and my parents were getting ready to give my
sister and I our gifts. We were handed a small, narrow wrapped box that contained tickets to the
DCX MMXVI World Tour. My parents had bought tickets for them, my sister, and I. This tour was
said to be the final tour that the Dixie Chicks would perform and we were going to the concert in
Nashville. Since I had a love for the group from birth, I was ecstatic! It was just a waiting game after

Literary Techniques Used in the Memoir of Ishmael Beah, A...
In the memoir of Ishmael Beah, A Long Way Gone, Memoirs of a Boy Soldier, Beah states that his
life's journey has been a huge obstacle, but has learned to overcome that struggle by venting while
the two contradictory sides continue their battling. Beah accomplishes his goal of explaining to the
reader his point of view through the use of rhetorical questions, scenic narration, and parallelism.
Ishmael Beah's apparent purpose is to share personal accounts of his life with his fellow country
men, in a country where war affects people to a level beyond the imagination. He is able to apply his
purpose using a grotesque and bitter tone. Beah approaches his audience of ordinary people in this

Through Beah's use of questions, the reader is able ponder on the question as if Beah is asking the
questions to him or her. Secondly, Beah describes gruesome, fearful, and horrific times and scenes
with the help of scenic narration. For example, Beah says, I am pushing a rusty wheelbarrow in a
town where the air smells of blood and burnt flesh. The breeze brings the faint cries of those whose
last breaths are leaving their mangled bodies. I walk past them. Their arms and legs are missing,
their intestines spill out through the bullet holes in their stomachs, brain matter comes out of their
noses and ears. This statement gives an excellent and direct impression of the brutality of the
rebels. Conceivably, this could be labeled as a massive genocide in the way Beah retells it. A Long
Way Gone is full of daunting scenes and bitter language. Ishmael Beah states, Setting the body on
the ground, I start to unwrap it, beginning at the feet. All the way up to the neck, there are bullet
holes. One bullet has crushed the Adam's apple and sent the remains of it to the back of the throat. I
lift the cloth from the body's face. I am looking at my own. Beah shows powerful and visible
emotion in the way he describes this person. When he says that he is looking at his own, that makes
the reader feel as if Beah is describing a family member or a very loving friend. Although, the last
portion of this quote is emotional, Beah still describes gruesomeness the Adam's apple being

Traditional Schools Vs. Year-Round Schools

  • 1. Traditional Schools Vs. Year-Round Schools Would you rather be home playing video games or going on vacations during the summer or in school? Year round schools are TERRIBLE. They spend way too much money, and they have to run their AC all summer long. They have to pay a lot of money to keep bus drivers and other staff members. Year round schools are 230 days and traditional schools are 180 days. Year round schools have 9 weeks of school and then a 2–3 week break. Traditional schools have breaks near the holidays and a 2–3 month break in the summer. Traditional schools don't have to run there A/C all summer long. Year round schools do because they have to go through the summer. My first reason that I am against year round schools is that they spend way too much money. They have to ... • 3. The Length Of School Calendar Length of School Calendar For every problem there is a solution. However, no solution can be found by running in three different directions. The same thing can be said about the current education system in the United States. Everyone has his or her own way of "fixing" the current program and everyone wants to solve it in a different manner. Recently, the main focus has been on improving the United States standardized test score rankings among other countries. The country has been scoring incredibly low for how developed we are considered to be. Several solutions have been proposed: get rid of standardized tests all together, fire all teachers who students test low, or implement a different school calendar. Clearly action needs to be taken ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is clear that summer seems to be causing a huge gap in education. The students remember more when they spend less time out of the classroom. This is why year round school is a better option for students. A common misunderstanding of the year round school year is that the school has more days than an original school year. In all actuality, students in both types of schooling only attend around 180 days. The only difference is that students in year–round attend school with different arrangement in breaks. It is called the "45/15 plan." This is allows students to spend 45 days in the classroom and then take a 15 day break. By following this plan students do not forget as much material they learn. There is not much time to forget it. Students take a short break from school and then roll right from one grade to another. By students remembering more, teachers do not have to spend weeks reviewing the material students should have remembered from the previous year. Year round schooling adds on time to the learning year without literally added more time. Not only does the year round school system improve memory recall for students, it also eases transitions for them. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Analysis Of A Long Way Gone By Ishmael Beah Ishmael Beah was an ordinary twelve year old boy from Sierra Leone, until one night changed his entire life. The author of A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy soldier is Ishmael Beah himself because he wanted to portray his life journey for readers to understand what life is like for children fighting to survive during warfare. Also, going through trauma is never easy, but however it's one of the only ways people can learn from their mistakes and prevent them from happening in future generations. It's best for people to speak up about their experiences like Elie Wiesel did in writing Night so no one ever doubts anything that actually happen. This young teenage boy converts into this cold blooded killer into a person committing himself to the survival of others Ishmael Beah transformed from an ordinary twelve year old boy, into an enraged killing soldier and then to a man that speaks up for children affected by these wars. Much like 12 year old boys in our own culture, Ishmael, his brother Junior, friends Talloi and Mohamed, lived the dream of performing in a rap group together. One evening, they left their village help out a friend promote his local talent show. Once they arrived at the neighboring village, the friends learn that their home had been attacked by rebels. "It was a typical aspect of being in the war. Things changed rapidly in a matter of seconds. And no one had any control over anything. It could be horrible though, because it would ruin family plans. There have been a ton of arguments about if this should be a thing or not. The whole country would be affected in a terrific way and a horrible way, if the summer was removed, I would be on the pro side for some certain reasons. "Removing any sort of a long break from school can improve a child's academic achievement," The Pros and Cons of year round school stated. If we took away break, then we would be more like a genius and more people could go to college and get better jobs. People might not fail as much. Kids would be able to get more scholarships. We would remember all of the things in school and be smarter the next year. Kids would not be held back or have to go to summer school. It would help the family because they might not have to pay for college and summer school. Kids could work better in groups because they would be with those people during the year much longer than "Though it may seem fun, a summer break can often lead to boredom," The Pros and Cons of year round school stated. If you go to year round school you won't have much time to watch TV. Year–round schooling is positive because it gives students more frequent breaks to relax, it improves test scores, and there is no summer school. Year–round schooling is unlike regular schooling in many good and bad ways. An example is how schooling year–round will save time in school and outside of school. Due to the shorter summers schooling year–round would make you have more frequent breaks and gives you time to shift their way of thinking from less–active to sharp learning models! Sence schooling year round would not have a long summer break the smaller more frequent breaks would make sure the children would not get ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some ways they help the school is some schools use a "multi–track system" which the school is divided into four tracks then 3 out of 4 tracks could be in school while the other track could be on vacation and they switch out. The multi–track system helps overcrowded schools and stress of having too many students. Another thing that helps the schools is portable room dividers that also helps to solve overcrowding. The room dividers create more flexible space and it quickly changes the look and use of any given space at any time. Finally the last way to help the school is to help the achievement gap. The dropout ratings of schooling year–round are 2% but the dropout rate of minority school is 5%! Schooling year–round has lower dropout ratings because they have less time to adjust to being off of school. Schooling year–round keeps kids on task, help retain information better and even if you don't get time to work in the summer with minimum wage jobs, schooling year–round makes high school graduates earn about $11,000 more per year than minority ... Schools have two different types of calendars which each school around the world follows one of the two calendars throughout the whole school year. The two types of school calendars are the traditional school calendar and the year– round school calendar. People try so hard to decide which school they should go to, but do not know because they know both calendars have certain benefits and certain negatives. Some people think that all kinds of schools should just stick to one schedule and it is the traditional school calendar or the year round school calendar. Some people say that the year–round calendar schools are better while other say traditional calendar schools are better. As a student I think that the year–round schools might help certain people by maybe not all. Certain schools around the world use the year – round school calendar, which is not so popular, because not everybody knows the benefits of the year – round school calendar. Year round schools calendars are calendars which are somewhat similar to the traditional school calendars, because Year– round school students go to school for approximately "180" days each year, which is the same amount of school days the traditional calendar students go to school each year. Schools traditionally run on a ten–month calendar, beginning in the late summer or early fall until late spring or early summer, but the year– round schools changed that up a little and have students go to school throughout the whole year. Usually in year–round calendar schools, students and teachers go to school for certain amount of days and have a break after that, the most popular type is they go to school for 45 days of school than have 15 days of break. Also, while traditional school calendar students take two weeks off on winter break, year–round school students take three weeks off. • 16. Graduation Speech : Year Round Schooling Year–Round Schooling The average school period is one hundred and eighty days with small breaks in between and a three–month break during summer to ease students' minds and let them relax. The Board of Education should make all schools in the United States year–round to increase educational time and decrease the loss of knowledge over the breaks. It gives students the same time to relax and plan family vacations periodically throughout the year, but never creates the stress of changing sleep schedules that summer break changes. Not only is it a good way to enhance education, but it also is better for planning family events, positive effects on budget, academic achievement, and could decrease the absence rate of students. There is controversy over whether or not summer break makes kids forget what they should have previously learned. Coming from myself, a senior in high school, summer break is all about forgetting school and living it up during the duration of the break. This causes teachers to have to pretest students to see what all they actually did remember and then go over the same material trying to get them to remember. With year–round schooling you do not have to worry as much about the loss of learning. The longest break with year–round schooling is three weeks. Any break will causes some memory loss but the three month break that regular schooling provides makes the chances not remembering material increase greatly. Year–round schooling, allows the same ... Some think there should not be year round schooling, but others think there should be year round schooling.Research shows that there Is no change for learning In year round schooling, but however some research has shown they learn way more. There should be year round schooling. Reason number 1: You will learn way more than just 9 months of school. Reason number 2: It will increase more respect for teachers quickly. Reason number 3: Students will be able to advance more quickly. The first reason Is that you will learn way more than just having a 9 month calendar of schooling. For an example you will be so use to the stuff you learned It's built In your head. Also studies have found that disadvantage of students lose about 27% more of their learning because of the long summer breaks, spring breaks, and winter. Plus having days days off. Students will be more advanced to the next school year why? Well first of all you don't forget what you learned. It's gonna have you prepared for college because of the grades that showed. In addition students may not like year round schooling, but at least you're getting better at things you haven't understood before. (Lynch) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 20. A Long Way Gone Analysis "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere," wrote Martin Luther King Jr. in his letter from Birmingham Jail. Ishmael Beah, author of the book A Long Way Gone speaks from experience. He was plagued with a war in his home country, taking away his childhood and family. This injustice caused him to have to fight in the war and resort to drugs to take away his mental and physical pain. Similarly, in One Crazy Summer by Rita Williams–Garcia, Delphine and her sisters struggle with the injustice that is not knowing their mother at the ages of eleven, nine, and seven, and the injustice of being black during a time period when people are segregated because of their color. Their father hesitantly flies them across the United States to see their mother that they haven't met before, and who has secrets of her own. In both books, the children are forced to grow up faster than they should and take care of themselves and others, and since they are children it is more difficult to deal with the situations that are hard even for a grown person. When a person is forced to start a new life because of an injustice, they are going to be nervous; but over time when they meet people, they will gain confidence to speak out. In order for someone to be able to gain confidence, he or she has to be comfortable with his or her mental and physical state. Ishmael starts his journey scared and worried that his family is dead. • 22. Does Year-Round School Benefit Students? ¨With year–round schooling, my child is much happier and self–confident now, and I know she will be well–prepared for the future,¨ said Savita Sanders. Year–round schooling does NOT mean that there are more school days. There will always be 180 days. I believe that year–round schooling will benefit students in many ways. These are three reasons why I believe that. The students won't forget over summer, there will be more opportunities for vacations, and it makes ¨bearing with school¨ easier. Primarily, the students won't forget the information taught over the summer, and summers aren't as long. In a traditional calendar, the summer break is long, so students forget, causing teachers to review the previous year's information for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 24. The Pros And Cons Of Year-Round Schooling "They do not view YRE as a calendar configuration for space, achievement, or enrichment, but rather as a part of the transformation toward a philosophy of long continuous learning." (Guthrie). One of the main purposes of Year–Round Schooling is to lower the break time between school sessions. This causes children to have a better chance of retaining the knowledge that they learned from the previous year (Wyoming Tribune Eagle). Year–round schools consist of the same amount of school days, 180 days, the difference is that it is spread out over 12 months instead of the original 10. When the original school schedule was made, it was made for families who farmed in the summer. Modern day Americans do not have to focus on the economic issue ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since the teachers and students are in school for nine weeks have a week of break, they can know look forward to up to two or three weeks of break. With the cut down on the summer break to add to the other breaks throughout the year, students have a better chance of retaining knowledge. From the school year 1987–1988 to the school year 2002–2003, there was a 544 percent expansion in the usage of year–round school implementations among the public schools of the United States. Fortunately, the number is still growing. The United States' students are falling behind students in other countries with our current style of schooling. Year–round school is a solution to that problem. Most year–round schools have the same amount of days as traditional–calendar schools. The only difference is how the way days are arranged so summer vacation is shortened and more spread out. This way, fall, spring, and winter breaks are longer. Long Vacation Vs Year Round School Nowadays, schools across the country tend to switch their schedule to a year–round curriculum, which suggests that both teachers and students no longer have the traditional two months of summer vacation. However, many proponents of an extended summer vacation contend that long vacation each year is better for students. As the seemingly simple notion of several short vacations throughout the year triggers a firestorm of debate, we need to understand the realistic effects of several short vacations. If students have more frequent breaks, they can avoid the brain drain. Several short breaks also make it easier to get a fresh start when necessary. Finally, I think that the purpose for which long summer vacation was introduced is no longer exist. First of all, frequent short break is the antidote of the dreaded brain drain that students experience during the summer vacation. Most of the cases, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The traditional American school year consists of a nine month schedule requiring 180 days in the classroom. This schedule was designed when America was still a largely agrarian country. As those reasons no longer make sense in this modern era, I support year–round education instead of nine–month school year. In a nutshell, I think several short vacations are better than long summer vacation in many ways. Students are able to rest and regain energy in between the classes and exams, and their recollection of lesson is considerably enhanced. Furthermore, it also meets teachers' high demand for their time at the end of grading period. Lastly, the long summer vacation is not what is best for today's students since traditional long summer vacation is no longer essential. So, I believe it is a plan that every school should ... Students normally feel more refreshed after breaks and are willing to get back into learning and doing school work. The image of year–round schooling is that students must go to school every day throughout the entire year with no breaks. This is an untrue image. Students are given frequent breaks throughout the school year to make up for the shorter summer break. It was first used in the 1800s, which goes against many people's thoughts that it is a new alternative schooling proposal (Research). In fact, because of the way a balanced calendar is set up, there are different opportunities for vacations. In year–round schooling there are multiple breaks after each quarter. These can allow families to go on vacation on seasons other than summer, and have more frequent, smaller breaks during the year (Year–round). The cost for plane tickets and some other expenses of a vacation could be reduced. This could occur because if going on vacation during an offseason, plane tickets are generally less expensive (Year–round). The problem is that there either is not a break that the family could go during, or the break is not long enough for the vacation the family wants (Flanagan). Year-round Schooling: A Simple Solution For Today’s Students Year–round Schooling: A Simple Solution For Today's Students Summer break is supposed to be a time of rest and rejuvenation for students. After nine months of hard work and challenging classes, one would think such a long break could do nothing but good for students; however, this is not the best way for young minds to learn. A three month break is far too long for children to go without proper education and supervision. Instead of a long three month break at the end of each school year, why not give students the same number of days off but spread them out more frequently throughout the year? Year–round education is a more efficient, globally competitive, and fair alternative to the traditional nine month school year. The reasons behind having a three month summer break are outdated and do not provide any functional advantages to the present day student. The current school year lasting nine months with a three month summer vacation is not necessary in today's society. It originally served to allow children in rural communities help their families with the harvest (Hemerson and Gove 8). Educators originally saw the nine month school year as a way to maximize attendance in rural areas of the country (O'Sullivan 399). This serves no functioning purpose in today's society. As a result of retaining the material, students will benefit from better test scores. According to the NAYRE, of thirteen studies of year–round– education performance since 1985...ten favored the year–round system over traditional schools and of those, seven found statistically significant learning gains by the year–round students (Harp 2). • 76. My Life Of The Dixie Chicks On August 17, 2016, as I sat in row GG seat 4, I realized that my childhood had come to a close. Just seven days shy of starting a new chapter in my life, college, I was standing in Bridgestone Arena in the presence of the Dixie Chicks. Since I was a little girl, I have been listening to their music through out every part of my life. I can remember as a three year old, blonde headed little girl, my daddy would put one of their CDs in the radio and dance around the living room with me standing on his feet. On Sunday afternoons, when I was around the age of six, my Mi–mi, Uncle David, and I would pile into their jeep and go for a ride down some back roads with their music playing in the background. Or as a thirteen year old girl, knowing every single word to Travelin ' Solider. Now as an eighteen year old, as I listened to the song being played, I thought to myself, This is it. I am about to enter a brand new chapter in my life. Rewind to six months earlier, it was Valentine 's Day and my parents were getting ready to give my sister and I our gifts. We were handed a small, narrow wrapped box that contained tickets to the DCX MMXVI World Tour. My parents had bought tickets for them, my sister, and I. This tour was said to be the final tour that the Dixie Chicks would perform and we were going to the concert in Nashville. Since I had a love for the group from birth, I was ecstatic! It was just a waiting game after we received the tickets because the concert was six months ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Beah accomplishes his goal of explaining to the reader his point of view through the use of rhetorical questions, scenic narration, and parallelism. Ishmael Beah's apparent purpose is to share personal accounts of his life with his fellow country men, in a country where war affects people to a level beyond the imagination. He is able to apply his purpose using a grotesque and bitter tone. Beah approaches his audience of ordinary people in this manner in order to vent his feelings about war by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through Beah's use of questions, the reader is able ponder on the question as if Beah is asking the questions to him or her. Secondly, Beah describes gruesome, fearful, and horrific times and scenes with the help of scenic narration. For example, Beah says, I am pushing a rusty wheelbarrow in a town where the air smells of blood and burnt flesh. The breeze brings the faint cries of those whose last breaths are leaving their mangled bodies. I walk past them. Their arms and legs are missing, their intestines spill out through the bullet holes in their stomachs, brain matter comes out of their noses and ears. This statement gives an excellent and direct impression of the brutality of the rebels. Conceivably, this could be labeled as a massive genocide in the way Beah retells it. A Long Way Gone is full of daunting scenes and bitter language. Ishmael Beah states, Setting the body on the ground, I start to unwrap it, beginning at the feet. All the way up to the neck, there are bullet holes. One bullet has crushed the Adam's apple and sent the remains of it to the back of the throat. I lift the cloth from the body's face. I am looking at my own. Beah shows powerful and visible emotion in the way he describes this person. When he says that he is looking at his own, that makes the reader feel as if Beah is describing a family member or a very loving friend. Although, the last portion of this quote is emotional, Beah still describes gruesomeness the Adam's apple being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
