The researchers surveyed teenagers in Baldock to understand how they spend their free time and what community facilities they would like. Most teenagers are unhappy with the existing community areas and parks, wanting somewhere for just teenagers to socialize. The researchers propose regenerating an area for teenagers by creating a skate park or other facilities. They will create a documentary, posters, and social media campaign to promote regenerating an area for teenagers in Baldock and educate them on the benefits of regeneration. They will brainstorm names, slogans, logos and campaign details and take questions.

Research Ideas for Teen Regeneration
1. Research and Initial Ideas
Jess: Hello, my name is Jess
Polly: Hi, I’m Polly
Jess: We are going to present the results from our survey and research and our initial ideas.
Polly: We will also cover key issues regarding regeneration and show examples of our target market
group. We’ll take any questions at the end.
Jess: We used the website survey monkey to create two questionnaires; one for people of all ages
and one specifically for teenagers. These are the results we have received from our target audience,
teenagers.
60% of the people who took the survey were between 13 and 16 and 88% of these live in or or
nearby Baldock.
We asked them questions such as where do they like to spend their free time in town. Two thirds of
the people said they liked meeting up with people at Costa Coffee, while 50% liked going to avenue
park. Some of the other places mentioned include the community centre, where 33% of people go,
and 18% said the library.
70% of the teenagers we asked said that they were unhappy with the community areas, and when
we further asked why, most of our responses said that there was nowhere for teenager in town, and
the parks were too babyish- 50% of people want Avenue Park to be regenerated, despite the fact is
was redone in 2012. This shows that we need to focus on making an area where teenagers want to
relax and socialise. Some of the facilities they felt could improve the town included; a skate park,
cinema, more shops or a swimming pool.
Polly: There are lots of issues regarding regeneration and why regenerating an area is better than
using new land. Most new developments are built on new land, when they could be built on the sites
of older, unused buildings in the area. The advantage of using these brownfield sites is that is
regenerates and brings life to buildings again. It saves wildlife and preserves greenfield sites
(countryside). Less materials are needed as you can reuse old ones, and it means that the facility is in
a densely populated area and will be used by more people.
Regeneration is important and something we should focus on because it is something that can
benefit everyone within a community. It can affect an area socially, economically, environmentally
and aesthetically. Creating a new area that offers the locals opportunities to interact such as a
community centre or park gives the area a sense of community and belonging. It gives people a
place to go to and relax; an example of how Baldock could use somewhere like this for teenagers
would be by building a skate park. The town offers nowhere for teenagers to socialise- the parks are
used by families and younger children and the church hall and community centre give adults
opportunities to interact.
2. Jess: We’d like to do documentary on regeneration. We want to create a documentary because we
can use more persuasive techniques in a documentary than a short time frame such as a television
advert e.g. facts and statistics, anecdotes, emotional language, shock and guilt.
We would like to make three posters. We want to make eye-catching posters that appeal to the
target market group. We can use thought provoking images and language to gain support for our
idea and create a memorable campaign as well as the opportunity to use a logo, we could use QR
codes to link social networking.
We are going to create a Facebook and Twitter page for our campaign that we will regularly update.
We will promote these pages using the documentary and posters. We think this will appeal to our
target audience as well as promoting our campaign to a wider audience. It offers teenagers a chance
to interact with us and acts as a constant reminder of the campaign and the work being done.
We will link our products by using similar colours, images/ videos of the same people or area, the
same typography/ logo and slogan. The visual continuity will make it obvious that the products are
promoting the same cause and make the campaign look professional and realistic.
Polly: Our target audience is Teenagers. We chose teenager because we know how to appeal to
them and understand the facilities that they want in Baldock. We could also extend our campaign by
using social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter that are statistically used the most by young
people.
It is a suitable campaign for teenagers because it is their future so they should be aware of the issues
surrounding the community. They’re the people who will benefit the most from our ideas. Also, they
are the least concerned about environmental issues and regeneration, so this campaign would not
only promote our ideas but also educate them.
Jess: Now, we aim to brainstorm names, slogans and logos for our campaign.
Polly: We are also going to think of different ideas, scripts and locations.
Jess: Thank you for listening, are there any questions?
