Description Of The Bill, Sponsors And Fiscal Resolution
Description and of the Bill, including the sponsors and fiscal note: The assembly Bill A1182
prohibits the sale on school property of certain foods during school breakfast and lunch periods. The
primary sponsor of the bill is Assemblywoman Linda Stender from the 22nd district (New Jersey
Legislature, 2002). She is a member of the Democratic Party and represents Middlesex, Somerset,
and Union counties (New Jersey Legislature, 2002). This bill addresses the sale of certain foods in
public elementary and middle schools during breakfast and lunch periods. Assembly Bill 1182
(2012) bans the sale of beverages that are less that 100% real vegetable or fruit juice, candy, gum,

A person is considered overweight if they have a Body Mass Index (BMI) between 25–29.9 and
obese if there BMI reaches 30 or greater (National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, 2010).
Furthermore, when calculating the BMI in children and adolescents, age and sex are also taken into
consideration (National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, 2010). Soft drinks and junk food, that are
high in sugars, saturated fats, and low in nutritional value, have been linked to the increase in
overweight children and adolescents. Unhealthy eating habits developed in childhood often lead to a
similar pattern in adulthood, which can have significantly negative effects on a person physically,
mentally, and emotionally (A. 1182, 2012). Kerbs et al. (2007) stated that childhood and adolescent
obesity is having an additional amount of body mass for a certain height. That being said, one
plausible assessment from the research could be that a child who overweight or obese during these
vital years of development can not only have a negative impact on their physical health but also on
their psychosocial functioning. The National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) (2010)
reported that national spending specifically for the addressing the obese population is estimated at
$150 billion a year. With 23 million of the United States child and adolescent population being
overweight and 12 million reaching the standards for obesity, this remains a demanding social

My Options for the Sports Brand Sponsors
Marketing Sponsor
Sponsors support organizations or events financially, and in return, they ask the organizations to
advertise their logo. It is up to the organization to find different ways, through which they can
advertise the brand. The sports franchise I work for, wants me to find sponsors and the way those
sponsors should advertise. Following is the information related to the current brand, which is
sponsoring the company and three more brands which I have found for the franchise and the ways in
which their logos are going to be advertised.
Current Sponsors and how they are used
The current sponsors, which the sports franchise has is Sky Sports; Sky Sports is a famous sports
channel, where matches of different sports are shown. The current way in which the logo of Sky
Sports is being displayed is through T–shirts. Every athlete wears a shirt, on which the logo of Sky
Sports is printed. As sports events are shown on national or international television, the logos are
seen by everyone, who watches the sports event. Moreover, when athletes are called for interviews,
they usually wear their sports jerseys, on which the logo of Star Sports is displayed, giving more
exposure to the brand.
First Sponsor
The first brand which I would approach to sponsor the sports franchise is XBOX; XBOX has
captured the attention of a vast audience, as it is fun for the children and the young. The way
through which the sponsor logo of XBOX would be used is through an application of XBOX, on

Philanthropub Case Study
A philanthropub is a restaurant or pub that donates its proceeds to a charitable organization. It seems
like a great idea, people enjoy going out for drinks and also enjoy giving to a good cause.
Philanthropubs allow patrons to do both at the same time. Some strengths to the business model is
that people are looking for an experience like philanthropub. The idea of a restaurant having its
primary goal to be improving the community rather than running a profit is something patrons can
put their business towards. Unfortunately, the food and beverage industry operates on very slim
margins before donating any profits. Cause hit a few roadblocks along their short time in business.
The restaurant had an issues with its core theme, A/C malfunctions and crowd–funding. After the
numerous roadblocks, Cause finally accepted the reality it was time to close for good. The owners
stated it was time to close because they were no longer able to carry out the mission of donating to
charities in the community. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There was a mix of fine dining, sports bar and a strange decor. This resulted in the inability to
establish a core customer base with recurring revenue. In the first quarter of operations, Cause took
a loss of $9,000 but still managed to donate over $8,000 to charity through small direct donations.
After only a year into business, Cause, had issues with their A/C breaking which resulted in having
to shut it doors for a month. The head chef and other staff left the company most likely to pay bills
of their own. This left Cause weak and facing significant head winds. In an effort to raise money for
A/C repairs, Cause turned to crowd–funding again with a goal of $11,000 but, only managed to raise
$1,000. People were upset the company was trying to use crowd–funding to seemingly pay the bills.

Yannely Suero : A Short Story
Can you imagine what kind of life you would have had if the person who is your father today
rejected you and ran away every time he saw your face just because he did not want you to be born
in the first place? Meet Yannely Suero, the girl who was rejected before she was even born. Growing
up without a father was very common for children in Villa Flores which is a community in the
Dominican Republic. But Yannely's situation was not just her not having a father to provide her with
the basic needs that she needed, but it was beyond that. She had a father who did not want her and
even told her mother to get an abortion the second he found out she was pregnant. Yannely's father
was not around her mother before or even after she was born. When Yannely got a little bit older she
wanted to know her father, but she, later on, regrated even finding out who her father was because of
the way he treated her. It was too obvious that the father did not want her at all by ignoring her
knocking on the door, or the way he turned around and ran because he could not even look at her
face. This broke Yannely's heart but that was not the end of her journey. Through Compassion
International Yannely found a purpose and she was able to heal and feel loved again. Through a
sponsor who was like a grandmother to her, Yannely's life changed for good and she then focused on
pursuing her dream of becoming a doctor. She held no hate against her father because she decided

Bii Executive Sponsor Case Study
The interesting topic that I find in the first half of the video was "Is the CIO the best BI Executive
Sponsor?" Well, CIO (Chief Information Officer) is the one who effectively captures the data and
store them as well as they are accountable for the system availability. So, having all these
responsibilities, one can generalize that he or she might be the best BI executive sponsor but the
reality is completely different. The CIO's technical orientation leaves them vulnerable to criticism
for a lack of business alignment and from the business perspectives, everything thing has to be
aligned with the business and whatever is not aligned with business strategy, are supposed to be
rejected or vulnerable by the management.
CIO is only central figure, only to those organizations where technology is competitive advantage
and in other companies where technology is just an operational strategy, CIO stands in a periphery.
Therefore, CIO is not considered as the best BI Executive Sponsor in most of the companies. ...

Summary Of Dwayne Lowery's Sponsors Of Literacy
Throughout Dwayne Lowery's life he encountered quite a few Literary Sponsors, as we all have.
"Any agent, local or distant, concrete or abstract, who enable, support, teach, model, as well as
recruit, regulate, suppress, or withhold literacy", is Brandt's definition of such in her essay Sponsors
of Literacy published 1998. From home to school, competition to co–workers, sponsors may take
form in many ways
From a young age, Lowery was influenced and subconsciously guided to think like a Union worker.
His father's views were openly discussed in the household, as most houses do; and as Lowery was of
such a young age he thought of these views as a general truth, even though he didn't care much
about them at the time. As a union member, his father supported the left wing liberals, constantly
reading about them in the paper. This political background made for Lowery's ties to the union as
well as his sympathy for the workers and motivation to do well in this field. Everyone should know,
you cannot help very much if you always lose the case. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Union sent him to a number of workshops which helped him improve his literacy in ways
which he could do more good for the group. Union training "organized and administered stratified
systems of opportunity and access"(Brandt 166) to new knowledge, also known as the workshops.
With the knowledge gained in these workshops, Lowery was able to "present the union side" while
"slicing chunks off the employer's case"(175) to make for the perfect

Summary Of Deborah Brandt's Sponsors Of Literacy
People are exposed to literacy all throughout their lives through learning and experiences. The way
one is exposed to literacy varies from person to person. In Deborah Brandt's Sponsors of Literacy
she states that literacy is not only the ability to read and write but also one's ability to apply those
skills to daily life. One gains much of their literacy through the different sponsors they experience. A
sponsor is "any agents, local or distant, concrete or abstract, who enable, support, teach, model as
well as recruit, regulate, suppress, or withhold literacy and gain advantage by it in some way" (46).
Throughout Brandt's essay she gives examples of different types of people who experienced

The most memorable one was the Western wall. I had never experienced anything like it. I was
surrounded by people who were part of all different cultures and religions, coming together at this
one place all for the same reason. This landmark was packed full of people. But not in the usual way
like when walking around New York City. People were still pushing and shoving but it was not
because they were in a hurry it was because they were eager to be apart of their religion and heritage
and to feel close to their family and ancestors. All around the western wall people sing and dance
together. Even if you do not know the person next to you, for those next few minutes it certainly
feels as though you do. The other students and I who traveled to Israel spent the next few hours at
the wall observing and taking part in the religious events. My favorite part of being at the wall was
coming together with everyone and dancing. For a solid twenty minutes everyone one the women's
half of the wall sings and dances together. I am not one to sing and dance in front of people I do not
know but in this instance I did not feel uncomfortable about it at all. The emotions of everyone
around you at the wall are overwhelming. Many people cry because they have never felt so close to
their heritage. Visiting the western wall not only taught me but showed me that there are certain
places in the world and certain times in life were everyone can be unified. This improved my
literacy and was a sponsor to me because of the different types of people I got to see and also by
physically getting to be at the wall and experiencing the history and culture that it signifies and

Abstract
The authors investigate the relationship between sports–related event sponsorship and stock market
valuation and identify factors that influence the financial rewards of sponsorship using World Cup
and PGA tour sponsorship data. In particular, relationship between sports sponsorship with financial
performance is examined in terms of sponsorship fit, event characteristics, and brand equity. Event

Sports sponsorship makes it possible to link the aspiration and passion of a target audience to
specific sports (Arun, 2004). In general, sponsorship holds a unique position in the marketing mix
because it is effective in building brand awareness, providing differentiated marketing platforms,
facilitating direct business benefits and providing valuable networking and hospitality opportunities
(ADREVIEW). The number of companies sponsoring events has increased over the past decade.
However, it is somewhat unclear how the effectiveness of event marketing activities can be
measured. As mentioned earlier, approach to sports sponsorship can be divided into two

Deborah Brandt's 'Sponsors Of Literacy'
"Sponsors of Literacy", written by Deborah Brandt, is an academic journal article that attempts to
define literacy sponsorship, as well as connect literacy as an economic development to literacy as an
individual development. Brandt studied literacy sponsorship by conducting 100 interviews from a
varied group of people all born in the same century. Brandt concludes that a literacy sponsor is
anyone or anything that influences a person to read or write, weather it be in a positive or negative
way. A literacy sponsor usually benefits in a direct or indirect way. Brandt also found that there are
three factors that influence people's literacy: stratification of opposition, competition and
reappropriation. In order to show stratification of opposition,

completely within your control. You are the Project Manager, the Customer, the primary Stakeholder
and the Sponsor. Project Manager: the person responsible for leading a project from its inception to
execution. This includes planning, execution and managing the people, resources and scope to create
an end product. Customer: the person/organization stakeholder(s) with a significant vested interest
in the outcome of the project, and is responsible for approving the end product. Stakeholder: an
individual, group, or organization, who may affect, be affected by, or perceive itself to be affected
by a decision, activity, or outcome of a project. [15] Sponsor: A sponsor is an active senior
management role, responsible for identifying the business need, problem or opportunity. The
sponsor is the one responsible for funding the project. The sponsor ensures the project remains a
viable proposition and that benefits are realized, resolving any issues outside the control of the
project manager. Decisions related to the form, fit or function of the end product are the
responsibility of the sponsor. Note: in this project, you may think of the professor as the customer.

The Negative Impact Of Advertising In Public Schools
In most schools, corporate companies have funded to educational institutions through corporate
sponsorships by promoting the company's advertisements of a store or restaurant into their school.
Most of the times advertisements have an impact of the school if it is either in a positive or in a
negative way. Schools mostly benefit from advertisements by corporations, as well do the
companies that are being promoted through school. (Thesis) The advertising of corporate companies
is beneficial in receiving new ideas and financial money for renovations in campus are sponsor,
however, the negative impact may be the issue in irritating the customers with their promotion and
the fact that there is more junk food than nutritional food provided for students in school.
(Abraham Cruz) The reason that advertising could benefit schools is that it provides opportunities
for people to understand a certain idea and answer any of their questions in doubts. For the
advertisement to convince the people, the corporation would do anything under any circumstances
to attract the customers attention. For instance, usually in the years students in elementary schools,
they are introduced to how to properly brush their teeth by dentists coming to school and
demonstrating with figures such as: a toothbrush, a model of a human mouth, and a big white shiny
tooth. Without a doubt, this type of advertising towards kids is very beneficial because they have the
opportunity to learn more about brushing their

Summary Of Deborah Brandt's Sponsors Of Literacy
In "Sponsors of Literacy," Deborah Brandt explains how all of us are the beneficiaries–individuals,
institutions, events, and ideas that make it possible for us to gain literacy or allow our access to
literacy. Brandt's main claim is that a person's access to literacy is largely dependent on
socioeconomic factors. Supporting that main claim, she introduces three sub claims: the first being
that there exists a stratification of opportunity; those with wealth and social status; and those who
are rich are more likely to be the beneficiaries of literacy development. On the other hand, those of a
lower socioeconomic status, those who are ethnically or racially non–white, are less likely to receive
the advantages of literacy development. Another ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

when she was thirteen and then soon after her father bought her a used word processing machine.
They both were "pursuing projects of self–initiated learning, Raymond Branch in computer

not only show the differences between one another's literacy practices, but how everyone's literacy
practices are affected in differential economies. Brandt uses Raymond and Dora to argue her point
very well Brandt believes that sponsors of literacy contribute to this stratification as well. She uses
the story of Dwayne Lowery to prove her claim. Dwayne was born in 1938 and raised in a semi–
rural area in the upper midwest. Essentially quitting reading once he left high school and being on
the lower end of his class rank, he had to learn to read and write all over again when he became

side", and "good at slicing

few people in my life who have done exactly that; they helped me gain knowledge on many topics
in hopes that I would find it informative and be able to better the world around me. My father, for
one, has been my literary sponsor for the sport of softball. This type of literacy is one that is mostly
for fun, but it also gave me incentive to spend time with my dad. He was the one who taught me
every aspect of the game (how to swing a bat, pitch the ball, and catch a pop fly). When I wanted to
work on hitting, he would bring me to a batting cage and pitch to me for as long as I wanted. When I
was in the mood to pitch, he would take me out in the backyard and catch for me. At first there was

State Sponsor Terrorism Case Study
For the countries that State Sponsor Terrorism (SST), the United States has several different ways it
combats and handles these rogue nations, mostly through the use of sanctions. One country that has
become a repeat offender of sponsoring terrorism is Iran. Since the 1979 Islamic revolution, Iran's
clerical leadership has worked with a range of terrorist groups to advance its own overall interests in
the Middle East and abroad (Byman, #2, 2015, Pg.1).
Over thirty years later, this use of terrorism has continued and remains an important foreign policy
instrument for the Iranian regime as it antagonizes the neighbors in the Middle East and with the

Sponsored Terrorism as its primary means, due to desiring an attack that was much bigger than
anything before, but also to be able to use this attack as a statement piece as to show how the Iranian
regime exactly feels about the U.S. involvement in the Middle East. The Iranian government has
several strategic goals for their way of doing so–called business, as the U.S. knows and calls it, State
Sponsor Terrorism. Associating with terrorist groups and employing them to do the regime's dirty
work, keeps Iran's hands clean to some extent. It is just like hiring a "hit man". By staying out of the
actual attack, although supporting it, doesn't make you the aggressor and therefore keeps you
somewhat out of reach for a counter–attack. They way the Iranian regime views it, you are
technically not the responsible party and are therefore not the target. In the past, Iran has worked
with and through terrorist groups like Hizballah or using its own operatives in a clandestine way,
which enables the regime to be able to distance itself from attacks and thus often evade

several events in our history to help define what exactly a sponsor of literacy is. She spent several

The availability of sponsors hinges on several factors and some people have more access to better
forces than others– thus diversity among literacy is created. Brandt's study contrasting the lives of
Raymond Branch and Dora Lopez positively reinforces her research that when availability and
access to sponsors is easily accessible, it opens the path to academic and economic success. When
that path is narrowed due to economic conditions, found when she interviewed Ms. Lopez, future
aspirations are not as easily obtained when access to sponsors is limited. Brandt describes "the
literacy crisis" as the gap between people's ability to reach literacy standards that are continually
rising. Sponsors contribute to the gap because of their

My Life Has Not Been The Easiest
My life has not been the easiest, but it did provide me with incredible opportunities. Growing up I
did not know any English because Spanish was my first language. I was also my mother's first born
and that made her nervous when making decisions, such as what school I would go to. However, she
had my grandmother around and together they were able to make a decision. When I started
kindergarten, I was the only one in my class that did not know English. Of course, kids teased and
giggled, but I was afraid to tell my mother because I thought I would be blamed. Thankfully, the
teasing got the attention of my teacher and she was able to put a stop to it. I had an incredible
kindergarten teacher and she took the time to teach me outside of class. Looking back at the
opportunities I have been given, the two most important people that gave me access to so much
information and support, are my kindergarten teacher and my mother. My family thought that if I
just watched some of the cartoons in English that I would start to pick up the language.
Unfortunately, that was certainly not the case and I fell behind my classmates. Reading and writing
scores were low and my kindergarten teacher noticed. Apparently, she went over to our home and
talked to my mother about my options. From that point on, she was taking time after school to teach
me the language. She gave me books, videos and different activities that I could complete and I
would then take tests with her. Brandt writes,

Sponsors Of Literacy Analysis
Literacy, the ability to read and write, is the backbone and overall structure to learning any type of
information. It is something that is dynamic and complicated. Literacy can't be pinned down to
simply reading directly from a book or perhaps composing words onto a piece of paper. It is far
more complex than that. Levels of literacy are affected by Literacy Sponsors, which are the
influential people and elements in your life that have affected or facilitated your literacy and
developed it thereafter. In Sponsors of Literacy by Deborah Brandt, she emphasizes that, "Sponsors
are delivery systems for the economies of literacy, the means by which these forces present
themselves to–and through–individual learners" (167). Each of the sponsors' ... Show more content

Growing up, my family and I went to church every Sunday, to learn more about God and how to
have a strong relationship with Him. I also went to various conferences and outings with my church
friends. Every time I listened to a speaker, I would take notes and read the Bible. This newborn
relationship that I accepted with God also presented the opportunity to spend time with Him
everyday in a daily devotion, which consists of reading the Bible and writing in my journal. I started
reading the Bible and writing in a journal during elementary school. On Sunday mornings at church,
throughout the school year, my church has Sunday school. In these classes, the teachers helped with
literacy rates and taught about God's love and power. I have been practicing the Eight Habits of
Mind, which consist of Curiosity, Openness, engagement, creativity, persistence, responsibility,
flexibility, and metacognition (Council of Writing Program Administrators et al. 5). For example, I
learned and desired to receive more knowledge about the world since creation, which addresses the
"Curiosity" aspect of the habits. Additionally, the Bible gave me a new sense of investment and
involvement in learning more about God and how He loves me, with "Engagement". This literacy

Reflection On Sponsors In Literacy
Let me begin by saying that my journey in literacy may be far different from others. Often times it
based on the environmental influences and socioeconomically circumstances of a person's exposure
to educational institutions. My reflection does not look at these in determining my level of literacy
and education, which have prepared me for Secondary Education. As Deborah Brandt defines in her
article Sponsors in Literacy, "Intuitively, sponsors seemed a fitting term for the figures who turned
up most typically in people's memories of literacy learning: older relatives, teachers, priests,
supervisors, military officers, editors, influential authors" (167).
To clarify, being in the workforce far longer than I have been in school creates a different kind of
story. Although I can relate on some level to each of the interviews of Brandt's narrative, the story I
most identify with is that of Dwayne Lowery. In his story, he received literary sponsorship through
career development and the requirements of his bosses and coworkers (peers) whom he directly
supported. This discussion most closely relates to my own experiences.
Therefore, In the following paragraphs I will show how my own personal growth, in literacy came
from sponsors whom I encountered on a daily basis. This is not say that there have not been others
who have impacted my journey in literacy, because I will allude to those as well. But initially, I
define my learning process as that of demanded literacy for the

Sport Sponsorship Research
"Construct conceptual model that measures the factors affecting sponsorship effectiveness in Egypt"

Sponsorship can be defined as a business relationship that is mutually beneficial between the
sponsor and the sponsored (Olkkonen and Tuominen, 2006). Sport sponsorship is considered to be
one of the essential forms of sponsorship that involves sponsoring sport associations, teams,
athletes, facilities, events, leagues and competitions (Tsiotsou and Alexandris, 2008). Over the last
decades corporate investments on sponsorship have increased dramatically as well as the rapid
increase in sponsorship expenditures worldwide from $2 billion in 1984 to $28 billion in 2004
(Carrillat et al., 2005; Koo et al., 2006).
Nowadays companies started to consider sponsorship as part of their marketing strategy for many
reasons in addition to being cost effective method as a marketing communication tool, for example
to: increase brand awareness; create brand image; re–position the brand/product in the minds of
consumers; increase profit over a short period; and achieve larger market share (Marshall and Cook,
1992; Thwaites, 1995, Pelsmacker et al, 2005). Recent academic research, however, has addressed
the importance of attitude research in understanding sponsorship outcomes (Alexandris et al., 2007).

and recall rates, sponsor image, purchase intentions, and word–of–mouth

Literacy Sponsors
From early on in school you learn that reading is going to be something truly important in your life
and are given books to read all the time, but at what point did you actually start to accept and enjoy
reading in your life? Literacy sponsors are "the people, institutions, materials, and motivations"
(Deborah Brandt (167)) that shape who you are as a reader, in my life my literacy sponsor was my
grandparents since they are the ones who gave me many of my favorite books and helped me keep
up with my older cousins'. Growing up I always wanted to keep up with my many older cousins, but
being the youngest out of all of them it was always hard to do so. Nevertheless I didn't want to be
the last in everything so I also wanted to start reading

Essay Sponsors Of Literacy Program
At a young age we are often taught certain principles that push us to grow into positive and
productive members of society. Growing up I was surrounded by the act of giving. Whether it was
time, money, or energy it was something that I saw not only in my family but was also taught in
school. Having this ingrained into me during my formative younger years has shaped me into a
person that I admire and introduced me to the world of helping others. Entering college and
exploring all my options was overwhelming but through trial and error I learned that my true calling
was to follow a path of working towards change for the numerous issues that trouble our world.
Prior to college these desires were not fully developed but letting the principle of giving guide my
daily life I became involved with things that benefited others, which led me to the Augustine
Literacy Project. My volunteering with this program and others with a similar mission, further
reinforced what my future goals were and what path would be best to carry them out. My research
of program choices at Appalachian State University resulted in me choosing to major in Global
Studies and minor in French and Non–profit management. This selection would open doors to the
nonprofit sector and a community of individuals with like–minded goals and values. By reading
Deborah Brandt's article "Sponsors of Literacy", I've learned how to not only succeed through my
growing literary skills in this field but to also recognize and

Tobacco And Tobacco
A study entitled, Effect of sports sponsorship by tobacco companies on children's experimentation
with tobacco, utilized a questionnaire that asked adolescents aged 13–16 about their knowledge of
tobacco's addictive and destructive nature, their level of temptation to buy or experiment with
tobacco, and their awareness of tobacco as a sponsor of sporting events. The majority of those
questioned were cognizant of the significant negative implications that tobacco could have on one's
health, including causing cancer, heart disease and reducing lifespan. Nonetheless, those who
watched sporting events with tobacco sponsors were enticed to buy cigarettes. Youth associate sport
with the attributes of a healthy lifestyles in the same fashion as adult fans, the difference lies in the
pliability of their understanding. This study showcases that those who were most likely to
experiment or buy tobacco products were not only aware of the affiliations of tobacco and sports,
they had also viewed the sporting events (Vaidya, Naik, Vaidya, 1996). This is pertinent due to the
fact that adolescents watching the matches attributed the athletic abilities of the players to the usage
of tobacco products. Some children believed that the athletes were smokers, and extrapolated the
false notion that, "smoking gives more strength, improves battling and fielding, and increases
chances of winning" (Vaidya, Naik, Vaidya, 1996, p. 400). Having said that, youth who didn't watch

Explain Why You Should Sponsor Me
If you passed up on me, I wouldn't be missing out on you, you'd be missing out on me. So that
should help you understand. I'm the guy you want to sponsor to win these games. I am the best of all
time and could kill with my bare hands as some would say. The Hunger Games are the time for me
to show off my talents. The time where nobody gets it easy. Not easy at all. That's why I will win.
Although I am very dumb at times, you should sponsor me because I can make people avoid me, I
am very socially awkward, and I'm very quick and sneaky.
One reason you should sponsor me is because I make people avoid me and go away. So when they
go away I could hit them from behind and kill them. Lots of people would know because I am very
weird. Doing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This could help me in the games because I wouldn't talk to anybody making them not think I was
there. If I got into a bad situation I would be quiet and not talk making me not able to be found. This
would help me because last year a girl came up to me and said "hi". I said "Hi. Do you want to play
with my balls?" But I was not trying to be weird. I was just super awkward and didn't think before I
spoke. This would impact me in the game because I wouldn't have to worry about people talking to
me or getting near me because I am that socially awkward.
Although there are many reasons that I will win the games there is one reason why I wouldn't.
Mostly because I come off kind of dumb at sometimes and don't make the right choice. This
shouldn't affect me in the Hunger Games though because I won't make bad choices and will be on
my A game. Also because others will not be around me as much to make me do or say something
dumb. Also, when pressure is on I do better and act smarter. That means that me acting slightly
uneducated should not affect me in the Hunger Games. To sum this up, you should sponsor me in
the Hunger Games because I'm sneaky and quick, socially awkward, and can easily get people to
avoid me because of my weirdness and personality. So if you are passing up on me in the Hunger
Games, think about passing up on Michael Jordan. Because I won't miss out on you, you'll miss out

Personal Essay: Sponsors Of Literacy
When thinking about ones literacy, what first comes to mind is reading and writing, but literacy can
cover many other aspects of life. It is usually not until a student reaches his or her college years that
they realize they are "literate" in anything they are passionate about. This could include sports,
technology or music because literacy is defined as "fluency in any given topic" (Writing about
Writing 798). I am literate in lacrosse, a sport with rules and vocabulary that most people don't know
about and frankly I would have no idea about those things either if it weren't for the people that
helped me become literate in the sport. Sponsors of literacy often turn up in people's memories when

I appreciate everything my dad does for me while I'm on and off the field; whether its buying me all
of the new equipment I need or even writing me small motivational notes on game days in my
lunch. I still have the first one that he wrote me, "Stay positive, relax/deep breaths, soft hands, sharp
passes. Love you lots, Dad". I believe that my dad is my most important literacy sponsor when it
comes to lacrosse because without the resources and the support given to me I might not have had
such a great experience growing into the lacrosse player I am today, playing at a collegiate level. I
can connect my dad to Sherman Alexie's dad because they both supported their children's passions
even though others weren't as supportive. Both fathers also provided their children with as many
resources and tools to succeed in their passions as they could. Because of my dad I now push myself
to cut to the ball harder and fight for the ball in ground ball huddles. I motivate myself harder for my

Smoking And Smoking Essay
Conventionally, in today's society there exists an unremarkable association between sport and
healthy behaviors. Notions such as these are based in fact, as sport epitomizes non–sedentary
lifestyles, places value on nutrition, hydration, overall health and sportsmanship, and aids in stress
management. While the aforementioned attributes and their connections to the sporting world may
precipitate positive changes in society, unquestioning members of society are prone to drawing false
conclusions. Tobacco companies have capitalized on the vulnerability of the sports industry and
sports fans in order to promote their own agendas and increase profits. Tobacco advertising through
sports sponsorship has targeted the unquestioning members of society that have neglected to
challenge the dissonant association of cigarette smoking with the healthy behaviors that sport
encourages. The hegemony that has been established over time resulted in the unharmonious pairing
of tobacco companies and the sports industry, while the health and well–being of unquestioning
members of society were exploited for economic gain. In this paper, I investigate how the historical
advertising of tobacco through sports sponsorship was ultimately successful. The temptation to
begin smoking was amplified as audiences drew false connections between sporting lifestyles and
smoking. This success was primarily based on the mutually economic profitability of the
arrangements made between the tobacco and sports

Nascar Swot Analysis
NASCAR's branding strategy depended heavily on sponsorships. The concentrated focus on
sponsorships, without providing categorical exclusivity to sponsors, made NASCAR easily
expendable. Ferrell and Hartline reported that 50% of NASCAR's revenue source was from
sponsorships alone (2014, p. 437). As a former Account Executive, the goal is to always educate and
inform advertisers/sponsors that marketing shares the significance level with that of paying the
company's utility bills; therefore, NASCAR failed to improvise with that notion, coupled with
sponsorship saturation, and as a result making them susceptible to economic downfall. Marketing
experts Ferrell and Hartline expressed similar interest, saying that one potential weakness of

The Idea Of Sponsors Of Literacy
The idea of Sponsors of Literacy was originally proposed by Deborah Brandt in her 1998 article,
"Sponsors of Literacy." In her article, she argued that Sponsors of Literacy include people,
institutions, and circumstances; they vary based on the person's experiences and surroundings.
Sponsors of literacy are essential in everyone's life due to the powerful role they demonstrate on the
long run. In my own reading and writing experience, my sponsors of literacy were my childhood
memories, my school, and the various resources I've used to accomplish an outstanding Multi–
Genre Research Paper. The Multi–Genre Paper is the highlight of my junior year of high school, if
not my entire highschool career. It's composed of many genres; each piece, self–contained, making a
point of its own, yet connected to the same topic. My paper about Dr. Seuss, representing the most
significant events in his life. Moreover, this project had a very rich context due to its involvement of
the skills I've gained in school and my childhood memories of Dr. Seuss' books. My experience
throughout this project has enriched my knowledge and expanded my skills. Therefore, it reflects
the sponsors of literacy that enabled me to become literate.
Throughout my journey in high school, I've made an incredible progress with the support of my
teachers. Starting with my English teacher in Junior year, shannon Lupin. From her life lessons to
her teaching moments, she was able to inspire my love for reading

Sports Marketing By Sam Fullerton Essay
In this short assignment is will be identifying sponsorship for each of the six categories noted in ch
4, Sports Marketing by Sam Fullerton (Sports, Entertainments, Causes, Art, Festival, and
Association). I will also Identify one of the five primary objectives of sponsorship for each category
(drive sales, improve image, create greater awareness, provide hospitality opportunities, enhance
employee morale). I will evaluate whether, these sponsors and sponsees are a good fit .And will they
be successful for the sponsor. For sports is will be looking at the NBA as the sponsee and its new
food and beverage sponsor Pepsi Co. According to an article in Fortune Magazine titled "PepsiCo
nabs NBA sponsorship rights from Coca–Cola "by Beth Kowitt. She states, the terms or the duration
are not being disclosed, but the deal is worth significantly more than the previous deal with Coca–
Cola. The new agreement also covers the WNBA, NBA Development League, and USA Basketball.
Tingyi, PepsiCo's partner in China, will be the exclusive partner of the NBA in China through its
Master Kong brand (Kowitt, B., 2015). This is a good fit. It will give exposure to PepsiCo's other
brand. The NBA deal for PepsiCo is not the usual; Mountain Dew, rather than Pepsi soda will take
the headliner. PepsiCo's Aquafina, Brisk, Doritos, and Ruffles brands will be featured in this new
deal (Kowitt, B., 2015). The primary goal of sponsorship PepsiCo is intending to accomplish is
creating greater awareness.

The paper aims at addressing education challenges, and illustrating the strategies required in
addressing the challenges. Education is a basic need for every human being. It is necessary to obtain
knowledge for one to survive in the world. However, obtaining education is not as easy as it is. For
some, it is even harder to obtain education than to succeed in school. This article tries to explore the
reasons why many people in the society around us either do not go to school or have dropped out of
school by exploring some literary articles.

educating students according to economic status and also social standing. Teachers continuously
hear that the poor students are mostly from violent and chaotic households; therefore, it is only the
regimented education curriculums that can ensure their success. On the other hand, the wealthier
students are taught by several education approaches which concentrate on developing the whole
person. The emphasis on education of poor students is mainly on developing appropriate standards
of obedience. Many schools serving poor students in the rural, urban and also suburban areas

adequate intellectual, material and technological resources to the high poverty children. One
example entails, developing programs that organize transportation for low income students, to the

What's in it for you? This is a win–win proposition for both you and us. Some of the most effective
methods of building your business' reputation within the community are positive word–of–mouth

Currently, the project is moving forward well. It is on track and has not cost anything more than
what was expected. At this moment, it is actually under budget. Projects of this nature and
magnitude are generally expected to go over budget because of the work involved and the tight
deadlines with which they must contend, but seeing this one under budget at this point in time is
very encouraging. There are some risks with which the project and the developers still have to
contend, however, before the project is complete. It is important to discuss and address problems
with a project before they have a chance to become more serious (Das, Kar, & Parrila, 1996). In
addition, it is also very important to ensure that everyone who is part of a project or who has a stake
in the project understands that there could be issues that will arise in the future (Yiftachel, 1998).
This awareness allows everyone to prepare as much as possible so that any issues that do arise can
be quickly mitigated (Das, Kar, & Parrila, 1996). Going forward, there are two important risks that
are worthy of discussion at this time in order to ensure they are monitored and handled properly.
These are:

Of Deborah Brandt's Essay 'Sponsors Of Literacy'
A sponsor is a figure who impacts a person to learn literacy. There are all different kinds of sponsors
teachers, military leaders, relatives, authors, priests, and etc. A sponsor role is superiority, powerful
figure, and more knowledgeable. In Deborah Brandt's article "Sponsors of Literacy" explains that
our literal history influences the way we learn and practice literacy. Brandt argues that a persons
literacy is effected by a sponsor of literacy, whether good or bad a they all have influenced the way
we think and act. Literacy is history and they influence the way we learn and practice literacy in the

Power that sponsors have
Sponsors are organizations or people who offer various types of assistance to other groups of people
or organizations. Sponsors also gain either directly or indirectly from their activities. For instance,
through sponsorship they create more awareness for their products. This is because most interested
parties tend to know more about the sponsor product. This practice is mostly done in sporting
activities and other entertainment facilities that require funding or some fee to access the property.

This is evident especially in third world countries where sporting activities has not developed. Most
clubs in this countries lack major sponsors and, therefore, this has hindered the development of the
clubs. This is the reason sponsorship is encouraged in sports as it leads to improvement of sports
activities. Sports activities are a major source of entertainment and should be encouraged in the
whole world. (Skildum–Reid, 2015)
Today, sports can be a source of employment as it creates several vacancies of employment. For
instance, players, and coaches earn their living from sporting activities. Others such as the
subordinate staff and club officials also earn their living from sports. Besides, sport is a source of
entertainment. It also facilitates development through building of better playing grounds.
Third world countries also should try to improve their sporting activities. This can be done through
their governments giving support to the sporting activities. The developed nations also should give
financial support to improve the sporting activities. Through financial support, sporting activities
can be taken to higher standards in the whole world (Richard,

Family means nobody gets left behind (or forgotten)." I came to McGill University from a high
school environment that was not particularly inclusive, but frosh taught me how to further involve
my peers to have an even better experience. Whenever one is in a group setting, it is important to
make sure everyone feels welcomed without damaging the social structure of the current group
context. In other words, it isn't right to let one person in attendance sit out and feel unwelcome, but
it is also not very fair to divert attention away from other people just to attend to the newcomer.
Inclusivity means effective integration, not special attention. I believe the best way to positively
incorporate these values would be to make the concept of inclusivity more available to the
participants. Chants and subjection to drinking are only fun if the person wants to participate in that

Description Of The Bill, Sponsors And Fiscal Resolution

  • 1. Description Of The Bill, Sponsors And Fiscal Resolution Description and of the Bill, including the sponsors and fiscal note: The assembly Bill A1182 prohibits the sale on school property of certain foods during school breakfast and lunch periods. The primary sponsor of the bill is Assemblywoman Linda Stender from the 22nd district (New Jersey Legislature, 2002). She is a member of the Democratic Party and represents Middlesex, Somerset, and Union counties (New Jersey Legislature, 2002). This bill addresses the sale of certain foods in public elementary and middle schools during breakfast and lunch periods. Assembly Bill 1182 (2012) bans the sale of beverages that are less that 100% real vegetable or fruit juice, candy, gum, and any product that contains more than eight grams of fat ... A person is considered overweight if they have a Body Mass Index (BMI) between 25–29.9 and obese if there BMI reaches 30 or greater (National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, 2010). Furthermore, when calculating the BMI in children and adolescents, age and sex are also taken into consideration (National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, 2010). Soft drinks and junk food, that are high in sugars, saturated fats, and low in nutritional value, have been linked to the increase in overweight children and adolescents. Unhealthy eating habits developed in childhood often lead to a similar pattern in adulthood, which can have significantly negative effects on a person physically, mentally, and emotionally (A. 1182, 2012). Kerbs et al. (2007) stated that childhood and adolescent obesity is having an additional amount of body mass for a certain height. That being said, one plausible assessment from the research could be that a child who overweight or obese during these vital years of development can not only have a negative impact on their physical health but also on their psychosocial functioning. The National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) (2010) reported that national spending specifically for the addressing the obese population is estimated at $150 billion a year. With 23 million of the United States child and adolescent population being overweight and 12 million reaching the standards for obesity, this remains a demanding social ... • 5. My Options for the Sports Brand Sponsors Marketing Sponsor Sponsors support organizations or events financially, and in return, they ask the organizations to advertise their logo. It is up to the organization to find different ways, through which they can advertise the brand. The sports franchise I work for, wants me to find sponsors and the way those sponsors should advertise. Following is the information related to the current brand, which is sponsoring the company and three more brands which I have found for the franchise and the ways in which their logos are going to be advertised. Current Sponsors and how they are used The current sponsors, which the sports franchise has is Sky Sports; Sky Sports is a famous sports channel, where matches of different sports are shown. The current way in which the logo of Sky Sports is being displayed is through T–shirts. Every athlete wears a shirt, on which the logo of Sky Sports is printed. As sports events are shown on national or international television, the logos are seen by everyone, who watches the sports event. Moreover, when athletes are called for interviews, they usually wear their sports jerseys, on which the logo of Star Sports is displayed, giving more exposure to the brand. First Sponsor The first brand which I would approach to sponsor the sports franchise is XBOX; XBOX has captured the attention of a vast audience, as it is fun for the children and the young. The way through which the sponsor logo of XBOX would be used is through an application of XBOX, on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Philanthropub Case Study A philanthropub is a restaurant or pub that donates its proceeds to a charitable organization. It seems like a great idea, people enjoy going out for drinks and also enjoy giving to a good cause. Philanthropubs allow patrons to do both at the same time. Some strengths to the business model is that people are looking for an experience like philanthropub. The idea of a restaurant having its primary goal to be improving the community rather than running a profit is something patrons can put their business towards. Unfortunately, the food and beverage industry operates on very slim margins before donating any profits. Cause hit a few roadblocks along their short time in business. The restaurant had an issues with its core theme, A/C malfunctions and crowd–funding. After the numerous roadblocks, Cause finally accepted the reality it was time to close for good. The owners stated it was time to close because they were no longer able to carry out the mission of donating to charities in the community. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There was a mix of fine dining, sports bar and a strange decor. This resulted in the inability to establish a core customer base with recurring revenue. In the first quarter of operations, Cause took a loss of $9,000 but still managed to donate over $8,000 to charity through small direct donations. After only a year into business, Cause, had issues with their A/C breaking which resulted in having to shut it doors for a month. The head chef and other staff left the company most likely to pay bills of their own. This left Cause weak and facing significant head winds. In an effort to raise money for A/C repairs, Cause turned to crowd–funding again with a goal of $11,000 but, only managed to raise $1,000. People were upset the company was trying to use crowd–funding to seemingly pay the bills. During the shutdown, the manager and staff quit the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Yannely Suero : A Short Story Can you imagine what kind of life you would have had if the person who is your father today rejected you and ran away every time he saw your face just because he did not want you to be born in the first place? Meet Yannely Suero, the girl who was rejected before she was even born. Growing up without a father was very common for children in Villa Flores which is a community in the Dominican Republic. But Yannely's situation was not just her not having a father to provide her with the basic needs that she needed, but it was beyond that. She had a father who did not want her and even told her mother to get an abortion the second he found out she was pregnant. Yannely's father was not around her mother before or even after she was born. When Yannely got a little bit older she wanted to know her father, but she, later on, regrated even finding out who her father was because of the way he treated her. It was too obvious that the father did not want her at all by ignoring her knocking on the door, or the way he turned around and ran because he could not even look at her face. This broke Yannely's heart but that was not the end of her journey. Through Compassion International Yannely found a purpose and she was able to heal and feel loved again. Through a sponsor who was like a grandmother to her, Yannely's life changed for good and she then focused on pursuing her dream of becoming a doctor. She held no hate against her father because she decided that her father's rejection would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Bii Executive Sponsor Case Study The interesting topic that I find in the first half of the video was "Is the CIO the best BI Executive Sponsor?" Well, CIO (Chief Information Officer) is the one who effectively captures the data and store them as well as they are accountable for the system availability. So, having all these responsibilities, one can generalize that he or she might be the best BI executive sponsor but the reality is completely different. The CIO's technical orientation leaves them vulnerable to criticism for a lack of business alignment and from the business perspectives, everything thing has to be aligned with the business and whatever is not aligned with business strategy, are supposed to be rejected or vulnerable by the management. CIO is only central figure, only to those organizations where technology is competitive advantage and in other companies where technology is just an operational strategy, CIO stands in a periphery. Therefore, CIO is not considered as the best BI Executive Sponsor in most of the companies. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 13. Summary Of Dwayne Lowery's Sponsors Of Literacy Throughout Dwayne Lowery's life he encountered quite a few Literary Sponsors, as we all have. "Any agent, local or distant, concrete or abstract, who enable, support, teach, model, as well as recruit, regulate, suppress, or withhold literacy", is Brandt's definition of such in her essay Sponsors of Literacy published 1998. From home to school, competition to co–workers, sponsors may take form in many ways From a young age, Lowery was influenced and subconsciously guided to think like a Union worker. His father's views were openly discussed in the household, as most houses do; and as Lowery was of such a young age he thought of these views as a general truth, even though he didn't care much about them at the time. As a union member, his father supported the left wing liberals, constantly reading about them in the paper. This political background made for Lowery's ties to the union as well as his sympathy for the workers and motivation to do well in this field. • 15. Summary Of Deborah Brandt's Sponsors Of Literacy People are exposed to literacy all throughout their lives through learning and experiences. The way one is exposed to literacy varies from person to person. In Deborah Brandt's Sponsors of Literacy she states that literacy is not only the ability to read and write but also one's ability to apply those skills to daily life. One gains much of their literacy through the different sponsors they experience. A sponsor is "any agents, local or distant, concrete or abstract, who enable, support, teach, model as well as recruit, regulate, suppress, or withhold literacy and gain advantage by it in some way" (46). Throughout Brandt's essay she gives examples of different types of people who experienced different upbringings with a variety of sponsors. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most memorable one was the Western wall. I had never experienced anything like it. I was surrounded by people who were part of all different cultures and religions, coming together at this one place all for the same reason. This landmark was packed full of people. But not in the usual way like when walking around New York City. People were still pushing and shoving but it was not because they were in a hurry it was because they were eager to be apart of their religion and heritage and to feel close to their family and ancestors. All around the western wall people sing and dance together. Even if you do not know the person next to you, for those next few minutes it certainly feels as though you do. The other students and I who traveled to Israel spent the next few hours at the wall observing and taking part in the religious events. My favorite part of being at the wall was coming together with everyone and dancing. For a solid twenty minutes everyone one the women's half of the wall sings and dances together. I am not one to sing and dance in front of people I do not know but in this instance I did not feel uncomfortable about it at all. The emotions of everyone around you at the wall are overwhelming. Many people cry because they have never felt so close to their heritage. Visiting the western wall not only taught me but showed me that there are certain places in the world and certain times in life were everyone can be unified. This improved my literacy and was a sponsor to me because of the different types of people I got to see and also by physically getting to be at the wall and experiencing the history and culture that it signifies and ... In general, sponsorship holds a unique position in the marketing mix because it is effective in building brand awareness, providing differentiated marketing platforms, facilitating direct business benefits and providing valuable networking and hospitality opportunities (ADREVIEW). Deborah Brandt's 'Sponsors Of Literacy' "Sponsors of Literacy", written by Deborah Brandt, is an academic journal article that attempts to define literacy sponsorship, as well as connect literacy as an economic development to literacy as an individual development. Brandt studied literacy sponsorship by conducting 100 interviews from a varied group of people all born in the same century. Brandt concludes that a literacy sponsor is anyone or anything that influences a person to read or write, weather it be in a positive or negative way. A literacy sponsor usually benefits in a direct or indirect way. Brandt also found that there are three factors that influence people's literacy: stratification of opposition, competition and reappropriation. In order to show stratification of opposition, ... The Negative Impact Of Advertising In Public Schools In most schools, corporate companies have funded to educational institutions through corporate sponsorships by promoting the company's advertisements of a store or restaurant into their school. Most of the times advertisements have an impact of the school if it is either in a positive or in a negative way. Schools mostly benefit from advertisements by corporations, as well do the companies that are being promoted through school. (Thesis) The advertising of corporate companies is beneficial in receiving new ideas and financial money for renovations in campus are sponsor, however, the negative impact may be the issue in irritating the customers with their promotion and the fact that there is more junk food than nutritional food provided for students in school. (Abraham Cruz) The reason that advertising could benefit schools is that it provides opportunities for people to understand a certain idea and answer any of their questions in doubts. For the advertisement to convince the people, the corporation would do anything under any circumstances to attract the customers attention. For instance, usually in the years students in elementary schools, they are introduced to how to properly brush their teeth by dentists coming to school and demonstrating with figures such as: a toothbrush, a model of a human mouth, and a big white shiny tooth. Summary Of Deborah Brandt's Sponsors Of Literacy In "Sponsors of Literacy," Deborah Brandt explains how all of us are the beneficiaries–individuals, institutions, events, and ideas that make it possible for us to gain literacy or allow our access to literacy. Brandt's main claim is that a person's access to literacy is largely dependent on socioeconomic factors. Supporting that main claim, she introduces three sub claims: the first being that there exists a stratification of opportunity; those with wealth and social status; and those who are rich are more likely to be the beneficiaries of literacy development. On the other hand, those of a lower socioeconomic status, those who are ethnically or racially non–white, are less likely to receive the advantages of literacy development. Another ... Brandt uses Raymond and Dora to argue her point very well Brandt believes that sponsors of literacy contribute to this stratification as well. She uses the story of Dwayne Lowery to prove her claim. Analysis Of Deborah Brandt's 'Sponsors Of Literacy' In "Sponsors of Literacy," Deborah Brandt attempts to explain literacy, its history, and how there are influences that form the way we learn and practice literacy. The author talks about how literacy for individuals is in relation to the economics of literacy. Brandt argues that the forces that influence an individual's literacy are sponsors of literacy. In the text the sponsors are defined as "any agents, local or distant, concrete or abstract, who enable, support, teach, model, as well as recruit, regulate, suppress, or withhold literacy–and gain an advantage by it in some way" (Brandt 166). Sponsors Of Literacy Analysis In Deborah Brandt's article, Sponsors of Literacy, she defines sponsors as, "... any agents, local or distant, concrete or abstract, who enable, support, teach, model, as well as recruit, regulate, suppress, or withhold literacy–and gain advantage by it in some way" (pp 166). There have been a few people in my life who have done exactly that; they helped me gain knowledge on many topics in hopes that I would find it informative and be able to better the world around me. My father, for one, has been my literary sponsor for the sport of softball. This type of literacy is one that is mostly for fun, but it also gave me incentive to spend time with my dad. He was the one who taught me every aspect of the game (how to swing a bat, pitch the ball, and catch a pop fly). When I wanted to work on hitting, he would bring me to a batting cage and pitch to me for as long as I wanted. When I was in the mood to pitch, he would take me out in the backyard and catch for me. At first there was a little bit of a problem with him teaching me softball because he was used to baseball. Baseball and softball can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When someone sponsors you, you are given a chance to do something with the information you received. State Sponsor Terrorism Case Study For the countries that State Sponsor Terrorism (SST), the United States has several different ways it combats and handles these rogue nations, mostly through the use of sanctions. One country that has become a repeat offender of sponsoring terrorism is Iran. Since the 1979 Islamic revolution, Iran's clerical leadership has worked with a range of terrorist groups to advance its own overall interests in the Middle East and abroad (Byman, #2, 2015, Pg.1). Over thirty years later, this use of terrorism has continued and remains an important foreign policy instrument for the Iranian regime as it antagonizes the neighbors in the Middle East and with the United States (Byman #2, 2015, Pg. 2). The Iranian government has several strategic goals for their way of doing so–called business, as the U.S. knows and calls it, State Sponsor Terrorism. Associating with terrorist groups and employing them to do the regime's dirty work, keeps Iran's hands clean to some extent. It is just like hiring a "hit man". By staying out of the actual attack, although supporting it, doesn't make you the aggressor and therefore keeps you somewhat out of reach for a counter–attack. They way the Iranian regime views it, you are technically not the responsible party and are therefore not the target. In the past, Iran has worked with and through terrorist groups like Hizballah or using its own operatives in a clandestine way, which enables the regime to be able to distance itself from attacks and thus often evade responsibility (Byman #2, 2015, Pg. 4). Brandt described several events in our history to help define what exactly a sponsor of literacy is. Growing up I did not know any English because Spanish was my first language. I was also my mother's first born and that made her nervous when making decisions, such as what school I would go to. However, she had my grandmother around and together they were able to make a decision. When I started kindergarten, I was the only one in my class that did not know English. Of course, kids teased and giggled, but I was afraid to tell my mother because I thought I would be blamed. Thankfully, the teasing got the attention of my teacher and she was able to put a stop to it. I had an incredible kindergarten teacher and she took the time to teach me outside of class. Looking back at the opportunities I have been given, the two most important people that gave me access to so much information and support, are my kindergarten teacher and my mother. My family thought that if I just watched some of the cartoons in English that I would start to pick up the language. Unfortunately, that was certainly not the case and I fell behind my classmates. Reading and writing scores were low and my kindergarten teacher noticed. Apparently, she went over to our home and talked to my mother about my options. From that point on, she was taking time after school to teach me the language. She gave me books, videos and different activities that I could complete and I would then take tests with her. It is something that is dynamic and complicated. Literacy can't be pinned down to simply reading directly from a book or perhaps composing words onto a piece of paper. It is far more complex than that. Levels of literacy are affected by Literacy Sponsors, which are the influential people and elements in your life that have affected or facilitated your literacy and developed it thereafter. • 40. Reflection On Sponsors In Literacy Let me begin by saying that my journey in literacy may be far different from others. Often times it based on the environmental influences and socioeconomically circumstances of a person's exposure to educational institutions. My reflection does not look at these in determining my level of literacy and education, which have prepared me for Secondary Education. As Deborah Brandt defines in her article Sponsors in Literacy, "Intuitively, sponsors seemed a fitting term for the figures who turned up most typically in people's memories of literacy learning: older relatives, teachers, priests, supervisors, military officers, editors, influential authors" (167). To clarify, being in the workforce far longer than I have been in school creates a different kind of story. Although I can relate on some level to each of the interviews of Brandt's narrative, the story I most identify with is that of Dwayne Lowery. In his story, he received literary sponsorship through career development and the requirements of his bosses and coworkers (peers) whom he directly supported. This discussion most closely relates to my own experiences. Therefore, In the following paragraphs I will show how my own personal growth, in literacy came from sponsors whom I encountered on a daily basis. This is not say that there have not been others who have impacted my journey in literacy, because I will allude to those as well. • 42. Sport Sponsorship Research "Construct conceptual model that measures the factors affecting sponsorship effectiveness in Egypt" 1. Introduction Sponsorship can be defined as a business relationship that is mutually beneficial between the sponsor and the sponsored (Olkkonen and Tuominen, 2006). Sport sponsorship is considered to be one of the essential forms of sponsorship that involves sponsoring sport associations, teams, athletes, facilities, events, leagues and competitions (Tsiotsou and Alexandris, 2008). Over the last decades corporate investments on sponsorship have increased dramatically as well as the rapid increase in sponsorship expenditures worldwide from $2 billion in 1984 to $28 billion in 2004 (Carrillat et al., 2005; Koo et al., 2006). Nowadays companies started to consider sponsorship as part of their marketing strategy for many reasons in addition to being cost effective method as a marketing communication tool, for example to: increase brand awareness; create brand image; re–position the brand/product in the minds of consumers; increase profit over a short period; and achieve larger market share (Marshall and Cook, 1992; Thwaites, 1995, Pelsmacker et al, 2005). Recent academic research, however, has addressed the importance of attitude research in understanding sponsorship outcomes (Alexandris et al., 2007). Growing up I was surrounded by the act of giving. Whether it was time, money, or energy it was something that I saw not only in my family but was also taught in school. Having this ingrained into me during my formative younger years has shaped me into a person that I admire and introduced me to the world of helping others. Entering college and exploring all my options was overwhelming but through trial and error I learned that my true calling was to follow a path of working towards change for the numerous issues that trouble our world. Prior to college these desires were not fully developed but letting the principle of giving guide my daily life I became involved with things that benefited others, which led me to the Augustine Literacy Project. My volunteering with this program and others with a similar mission, further reinforced what my future goals were and what path would be best to carry them out. My research of program choices at Appalachian State University resulted in me choosing to major in Global Studies and minor in French and Non–profit management. Tobacco And Tobacco A study entitled, Effect of sports sponsorship by tobacco companies on children's experimentation with tobacco, utilized a questionnaire that asked adolescents aged 13–16 about their knowledge of tobacco's addictive and destructive nature, their level of temptation to buy or experiment with tobacco, and their awareness of tobacco as a sponsor of sporting events. The majority of those questioned were cognizant of the significant negative implications that tobacco could have on one's health, including causing cancer, heart disease and reducing lifespan. Nonetheless, those who watched sporting events with tobacco sponsors were enticed to buy cigarettes. Youth associate sport with the attributes of a healthy lifestyles in the same fashion as adult fans, the difference lies in the pliability of their understanding. This study showcases that those who were most likely to experiment or buy tobacco products were not only aware of the affiliations of tobacco and sports, they had also viewed the sporting events (Vaidya, Naik, Vaidya, 1996). This is pertinent due to the fact that adolescents watching the matches attributed the athletic abilities of the players to the usage of tobacco products. Some children believed that the athletes were smokers, and extrapolated the false notion that, "smoking gives more strength, improves battling and fielding, and increases chances of winning" (Vaidya, Naik, Vaidya, 1996, p. 400). Notions such as these are based in fact, as sport epitomizes non–sedentary lifestyles, places value on nutrition, hydration, overall health and sportsmanship, and aids in stress management. While the aforementioned attributes and their connections to the sporting world may precipitate positive changes in society, unquestioning members of society are prone to drawing false conclusions. Tobacco companies have capitalized on the vulnerability of the sports industry and sports fans in order to promote their own agendas and increase profits. Tobacco advertising through sports sponsorship has targeted the unquestioning members of society that have neglected to challenge the dissonant association of cigarette smoking with the healthy behaviors that sport encourages. The hegemony that has been established over time resulted in the unharmonious pairing of tobacco companies and the sports industry, while the health and well–being of unquestioning members of society were exploited for economic gain. It is on track and has not cost anything more than what was expected. At this moment, it is actually under budget. Projects of this nature and magnitude are generally expected to go over budget because of the work involved and the tight deadlines with which they must contend, but seeing this one under budget at this point in time is very encouraging. There are some risks with which the project and the developers still have to contend, however, before the project is complete. It is important to discuss and address problems with a project before they have a chance to become more serious (Das, Kar, & Parrila, 1996). In addition, it is also very important to ensure that everyone who is part of a project or who has a stake in the project understands that there could be issues that will arise in the future (Yiftachel, 1998). This awareness allows everyone to prepare as much as possible so that any issues that do arise can be quickly mitigated (Das, Kar, & Parrila, 1996). Going forward, there are two important risks that are worthy of discussion at this time in order to ensure they are monitored and handled properly. These are: The only software developer who knows how to get the project through final approval with the IRS has taken "early retirement" and is leaving in one week, and Three of the developers are located ... I was an integral member of the Science Frosh Sponsorship team, especially when it concerned acquiring the funds and equipment for the most successful frosh of 2016. While I do not have any "new" ideas pertaining to Science Games, I have one idea that may make the Hype Night more successful. In other words, it isn't right to let one person in attendance sit out and feel unwelcome, but it is also not very fair to divert attention away from other people just to attend to the newcomer. Inclusivity means effective integration, not special attention. I believe the best way to positively incorporate these values would be to make the concept of inclusivity more available to the participants. Chants and subjection to drinking are only fun if the person wants to participate in that particular event. Inclusivity during science events is easy (especially in regards to alcohol) if everyone recognizes the "opt–in–environment," i.e. alcohol is an opt–in activity, not one you have to opt–out ...
