Constellations In The Northern Hemisphere
THE NORTHERN HEMISPHERE CONSTELLATIONS
The constellations in the Northern hemisphere that I chose to observe are: Sagittarius, Scorpius,
Hercules, Aquila and Ophiuchus.
The constellations have been used for quite a few things like navigation, agriculture and used to
predicted the seasons and more. The many two that the ancient people used the constellations for
were navigation and agriculture. The ancient Greeks and Romans used the North Star called Polaris
just by looking at how high Polaris appeared in the sky at night. This allows them to sail the ships
across the seas and to let them know where they are in the sea. The European also used the
constellations to sail across the sea for the discovery of America and the spread of European ...

I observe tried Scorpius with my own eyes but I could not find it so I used my telescope to find it
and observe it. The best time to see the Scorpius is in the evening around 8:45pm. According to
what my telescope information it said that is due to the fact that we are looking in the direction close
to the center of our galaxy. I observe many stars in this area, and it is unfortunate for us in northern
hemisphere that the observing season for this constellation is cut short both by the brief summer
evenings.
The constellation of Hercules is one of the original 48 constellations plotted by 2nd century
astrophysicist Ptolemy and remains today as one of the modern 88 constellations. I did not observe
the Hercules constellation. My telescope pointed in the direction of the constellation but it was to
faint for me to see it. The info from the telescope said the best time to observe is in the middle of
May. Hercules is large and ranks as the 5th largest of all, across a remarkable 1225 square degrees of

The Machine Stops Essay example
In The Machine Stops, E.M. Forster projects life years from now where people live underground
with extreme technological advances. Also, people live separated in little rooms where they find a
variety of buttons they can press in order to perform any task they desire. They do not communicate
with people face to face as often as we do now. Without a doubt, their society is very different from
ours. All of the inhabitants are used to living along with the Machine and it is hard for them to
imagine life without everything the Machine is able to facilitate. People are so caught up with
technology that they find it absurd to spend time in nature. Because of the dependence people have
towards the Machine, they have somewhat lost their humanity ... Show more content on

It is weird to see this kind of behavior coming from a mother because mothers usually worry a lot
for their children and try to dedicate as much time as possible to them. At last she decides to visit
him and uses the air–ship as transportation. As Vashti expresses her experiences in her journey, one
notices how inhumane and out of touch she and everyone else is. She is shocked when a man
dropped his book and he, himself, picks it up from the floor without any help from the Machine.
Vashti becomes very anxious because she is not used to this type of behavior and neither talking or
interacting with people. It was three months ago the last time she actually had a face to face
conversation with someone and so feels very intimidated and scared. "People were almost exactly
alike all over the world, but the attendant of the air–ship, perhaps owing to her exceptional duties,
had grown a little out of the common. She had often to address passengers with direct speech, and
this had given her a certain roughness and originality of manner." (p.118) Because she was feeling
uncomfortable in this voyage she finds support and comfort by touching and reciting to the Book
which is a manual that teaches people how to function the Machine. Vashti also became annoyed
when a ray of sunlight was touching her; the attendant had to move her to another seat because of all
her complaints. Apparently, Vashti tripped and the attendant grabbed her with the intention of

The Brain Is The Most Important Part Of The Human Brain
When you think of the brain, think of it as the most important part of the human body. The brain is
the strongest part of the body and can easily be damaged. Not only is it easy to damage but it also
has the ability to take in a lot of new information to increase one's intelligence. Think of the brain
like a computer or even a sponge.
The brain has six very important parts to it, the lobes play a very important part to the brain. The
lobes break down into four different parts these four parts are the frontal, temporal, occipital and the
parietal lobe. These four lobes are what makes the brain look so cool. Everyones is born with their
own maze of a brain but with in that maze ever one has the four lobes. The four lobes all have
different jobs. As you said in the video that we watched for week one the frontal lobe controls the
thinking and the planning. To me, I think the frontal lobe is the most important lobe of them all. The
frontal lobe continues to grow as you get older, the reason for that is because it's more like a
memory card as well, the older you get the more memories you tend to have.
The second of the of the six most important parts is the motor cortex. The motor cortex is to the
body what and the engine is to a car. The motor cortex is what helps the body move. The cortex is
what controls the bodies movement. If you happen to damage the motor cortex you're more than
likely going to be paralyzed.
The third part of the brain is your brain stem is another

Rapid Climate Change Events During The Period Between 10ka...
The last glacial period has encountered numerous large–magnitude, rapid climate change events;
characterising the period between 10ka and 50ka (Steig, 1999). During this period was the Last
Glacial Maximum (LGM), which occurred approximately 21ka, a glacial period defined by changes
in greenhouse gases, sea level and ice sheets (Otto–Bliesner et al., 2006). In comparison the mid–
Holocene occurred approximately 6000 years ago, during the current interglacial. The Holocene
period is regarded as relatively muted in terms of 'signals' of climate change, with changes primarily
associated with changes in seasonal solar radiance (Otto–Bliesner et al., 2006; Steig, 1999).
Models have been constructed in order to replicate the past climates, with specific reference to 'The
Community Climate System Model: Version 3' (CCSM3), aimed to define continental scale
dynamics, variability and climate change (Collins et al., 2006). With the use of models the
environmental variation between the LGM and mid–Holocene periods can be construed. Roche et al
(2007) refers to the LGM as the classic benchmark for models, enhanced by the use of proxy data
associated with ocean surfaces, vegetation, oceanic–circulation and atmospheric conditions.
Clark et al (2009) presented the extent of the LGM, with growth of ice–sheets to their maximum
extent occurring between 33ka and 26.5ka; primarily in response to climate forcing from decreases
in northern summer insolation, tropical Pacific sea surface

Protagonist
Protagonist If one looks hard enough in a post–apocalyptic town they will find someone like Tessa.
In fact everyone is like Tessa, just a normal warring country citizen. The way Tessa is described you
would see some torn clothes and long hair. Like most people in a century long war, they want peace
and harmony.
Antagonist In my story there are absolutely no antagonists. In the history of my book there is a war
that split the world into two sides. They both believed they were doing the right thing. There were
computers that tricked the humans into not fighting, for most of the war. So the story as stupid as it
is, is just a misunderstanding.

The main character learns that everything she has been told is not true. Those who did not adapt in
the story went crazy. These people in the story were forced to live terrible lives for nothing. These
people that started thriving, did not dwell on the past.
Figurative language and humor The Author used figurative language for people to get how major or
little the sentence is, like when it said "whispers of excitement float through the crowd." Another
instance was when the book states "he could have been an angel or a saint...." which means he is a
good person. The last example, is when it stated "the crowd's whispers rippled." These were used to
show importance of these moments.
Social issues Characters are treated very differently because if you are not a high ranking military
official you are poor. The war has gone on for a century and things are not getting any better. They
are devoted to winning the war because neither side looks as if they are going to let up. They are
trying to keep their freedoms. What they should be doing is helping their

How Did British Colonization Affect The Development Of The...
Main Idea 1
Seventeenth–century Spanish, French, Dutch, and British colonizers embraced different social and
economic goals, cultural assumptions, and folkways, resulting in varied models of colonization.
Spain sought to establish tight control over the process of colonization in the Western Hemisphere
and to convert and/or exploit the native population. French and Dutch colonial efforts involved
relatively few Europeans and used trade alliances and intermarriage with American Indians to
acquire furs and other products for export to Europe. Unlike their European competitors, the English
eventually sought to establish colonies based on agriculture, sending relatively large numbers of
men and women to acquire land and populate their settlements, while having relatively hostile
relationships with American Indians. The British–American system of slavery developed out of the
economic, demographic, and geographic characteristics of the British–controlled regions of the New
World. Reinforced by a strong belief in British racial and cultural superiority, the British system
enslaved black people in perpetuity, altered African gender and kinship relationships in the colonies,
and was one factor that led the British colonists into violent confrontations with native peoples. The
New England colonies, founded primarily by Puritans seeking to establish a community of like–
minded religious believers, developed a close–knit, homogeneous society and a thriving mixed
economy of agriculture

Finding False Memories Of The Mall
Texperiences.
Some people might argue that getting lost in the mall is too common of an experience to
demonstrate false memories. For this argument, Hyman et al. constructed an experiment to show the
occurrence of false memories in less that common childhood events including spilling punch at a
wedding and a sprinkler system going off a at grocery store. For one variation of this study, Hyman
et al. implanted the memory of an overnight hospitalization with a high fever, and possible ear
infection. The participants were told they were going to be asked about events from their childhood
based on information provided by their parents. They were then given the titles of the events
(including the false visit to the hospital) and asked to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some ideas in the field include looking at the response speed of the recollection of memories, and
the emotion felt when recalling the memory (Reisberg). A common assumption is that the
confidence with which memory is recalled could indicate its accuracy. However, there is very little
association with how sure someone is about the occurrence of an event and how accurate their
recollection is. We are often sure of our false memories.
Smith, Ellsworth, and Kassin explain this in their study on Eyewitness Accuracy and Confidence.
They note that most officials in court cases overwhelmingly believe confidence in eyewitness
testimony to be positively correlated with accuracy. To disprove this, they studied about 100
undergraduate students from Stanford University. They had the students watch a car accident,
participate in a filler task, and then answer questions about the car accident. They were asked to rate
the confidence on their answers on a scale of 1 (no clue) to 10 (absolutely sure). The researchers
then computed the correlation of accuracy and confidence and found the same conclusion as
Reisberg explained: confidence can not be solid an indicator of accuracy (Smith 358).
In fact, the more we are asked to recall a memory, the more confident we become, which is
unfortunate because it 's easy to create a false memory. Let us take an

The Intertropical Convergence Zone Plays a Large Role in...
The intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) is a permanent low–pressure feature that lies on the
meteorological equator. It is characterisied by lots of cloud cover and precipitation (Andrews et al.,
2003). The ITCZ plays a significant role in the climate and weather events in the tropics. The clouds
created by the ITCZ also provide an important form of albedo in the tropics (Waliser and Gautier,
1993),which has an effect on global climate. Tropical events such as monsoon and cyclones occur in
the ITCZ and are products of the unique convection system found around the ITCZ (Yancheva et al.,
2007, Ferreira and Schubert, 1997).The ITCZ is a product of humid trade winds from the northern
and southern hemisphere converging and then rising. This rising of humid air usually results in
precipitation over the tropics(Waliser and Somerville, 1994). This rising of the humid air acts as the
driving force in the Hadley Cell (Waliser and Somerville, 1994). The ITCZ is a product of high
levels of solar radiation and high amounts of latent heat released from the ocean (Andrews et al.,
2003). It is important to realize that the ITCZ moves throughout the year depending on the seasons,
it is likely to be found in the southern hemisphere in the southern hemisphere summer and in the
northern hemisphere during the northern hemispheres summer. However the ITCZ is more likely to
be found in the Northern hemisphere (Waliser and Somerville, 1994). The ITCZ plays a large role in

The Beginning A History Of New Zealand 's Ufo Activity
the Beginning... A history of New Zealand's UFO activity BY TONY LUCAS 12/01/2014 UFO
SIGHTINGS
Historically, most of the Northern Hemisphere holds the attention of many when it comes to
paranormal activity, UFO's, Cryptozoology and strange phenomena.
UFO
What I hope to bring forth in these articles is the often not heard of Phenomena that is just as
prevalent in the Southern Hemisphere.
As an Independent UFO Investigator myself I will however ask the readers forgiveness if I often
indulge myself in that field.
Being a New Zealander, it is often not recognized that New Zealand has many unheard of mysteries
and its fair share of UFO activity. We also have our own version of Bigfoot known as the Moehau,
also a mystery otter like creature, alien big cats, and more. Our nearest neighbor, Australia also has
its fair share of UFO sightings, Criptids (animals that are not known or presumed extinct), and
strange phenomena.
As a UFO Investigator, I like to make quite clear how easy it is to be fooled. Often, what we think
we see is not what it appears to be. In the case of UFO's, weather balloons, the planet Venus,
satellites and other man–made phenomena are often mistaken for UFOs. My belief is that once you
have eliminated all the obvious and, sometimes the not so obvious, whatever you are left with must
be the answer.
New Zealand has a long history of UFO activity beginning in the late 19th century with the airship
flap of the period, when there was a rash of sightings of

Argumentative Essay On Climate Change
Even if one doesn't follow the climate change debate by their own free will, it's almost impossible to
avoid the discussion on climate change altogether. This is because climate change effects so many
areas of daily life, which makes exposure to the discussion on climate change almost unavoidable.
Recently, Hurricane Harvey, Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria ravaged parts of the Southern
United States and the Caribbean. Many people felt that they have been hearing about or
experiencing more hurricanes than ever before–or speculating that in general, hurricanes are
becoming more powerful and damaging. Quickly, the spotlight fell on climate change. Does the
changing climate have the capacity to alter nature's biggest catastrophe? Does the rising temperature
or changing composition of atmospheric gases have the potential to make hurricanes more intense
and frequent? Climate change, which rises the temperature above the oceans, provides optimum
conditions for the occurrence of more intense hurricanes. Climate change is the term used to
describe the changing weather patterns over a certain amount of time (O'Brien 2006, 65). Both
experts and common–folk alike have differing opinions about the cause of climate change–is it
completely natural and cyclic or has climate change been accelerated by human activity? Whatever
your opinion, one would be hard pressed to argue that climate change isn't occurring at all–May
2012 was the 327th month straight in which the temperature of the

The El Nino Southern Oscillation
Abstract The El–Niño Southern Oscillation is a complex sequence of natural climate variations that
take place in the tropics of the Pacific Ocean, yet affect the climate of the entire globe. The climate
phenomenon, known as ENSO, has three main phases that each differ markedly in their atmospheric
and oceanic conditions. El Niño, also known as "the warm phase", is the first cycle that begins when
warm water in the eastern Pacific Ocean shifts to the west toward South America. During El Niño,
the east–to–west trade winds halt and sometimes reverse directions, causing significant disturbances
in the biological life of the Pacific Ocean. Conversely, La Niña is the complete opposite of El Niño.
La Niña, also called "the cold phase" brings unusually strong east–to–west winds and colder
temperatures along the equatorial Pacific. Both phases have consequences that affect the regular
atmospheric conditions of the world; El Niño is linked to both droughts and floods, La Niña is
linked to extreme tropical cyclones and monsoon rains. The climatic events also have relationships
to forest fires, economic changes, famine, plagues and widespread crop failure. The study of ENSO
is necessary in order to attempt to reveal patterns and key factors that can affect the intensity and
severity of this phenomenon that occurs globally on average every two to seven years.

Left Brain Right Brain Theory
Left–brained, right–brained, what's really the difference between the two? It may be surprising but
the cerebrum of the brain is split into two different hemispheres, both of which perform different
tasks and focus on different thoughts. Researchers use this very information to understand the
cerebral hemisphere functions, specifically researchers use a theory known as Left Brain–Right
Brain Theory. This essay will discuss the basic principal of the Left Brain–Right Brain Theory, the
three major points of the Left Brain– Right Brain Theory, the functions of each hemisphere, and a
scenario that favors the Left Brain–Right Brain Theory in school education.
Roger Sperry a famous pioneer involved in the field of cerebral hemispheres began the development
of the commonly known, Left Brain–Right Brain Theory. Before officially developing his theory,
Sperry went on to study the effects of epilepsy and perform split brain research (cutting of the
corpus); from Sperry's split brain research he learned that cutting the corpus could either eliminate
or lessen seizures in patients. Additionally, Sperry found that patients with split brain could not
identify objects if handled on the right side of the brain; patients could however identify objects
processed on the left side of the brain. From this information, Sperry was able to propose that the
left side of the brain controlled the language aspects of a human. With Sperry's previous
observations, researchers continued to conduct studies on the cerebral hemisphere of the brain,
researchers found that the left hemisphere of the brain specialized in language, speech, hand
mechanics (writing),mathematical calculations, senses of rhythm and time, and any sort of thought
used for analysing information. On the other hand, researchers found that the right hemisphere of
the brain focused on perception, visualization, faces, emotions harmonies, spatial perception, and
nonverbal communication.Ultimately, this theory is a comparison between the left hemisphere and
the right hemisphere of the brain.
According to this hemispheric theory, there are three major points that are known within the Left
Brain– Right Brain Theory. The first point being that the left hemisphere and the right

The Northern Hemisphere
Eighteen Hundred and Froze to Death
In 1816, sections of the northern hemisphere experienced a "year without a summer." The average
summer temperatures across the northeastern United States, Canadian Maritime Provinces and much
of Europe were colder than any other year in the previous 600 years, with the exception of the
summer of 1601. The estimated mean surface temperature anomaly for the northern hemisphere in
1816 is –0.51 K. In Europe, temperatures averaged 1–2 C cooler than was typical of the surrounding
years, and there was also an increase in precipitation. The most common explanation for this climate
anomaly is that it was caused by the 1815 eruption in Indonesia of Tambora, "the largest known
eruption in history." The summer of 1816 also occurred during a period of reduced solar activity,
known as the Dalton Minimum, which may have contributed as well.

In addition to dendrochronological data, there is also an instrumental record for 1816 and the
surrounding years. In Geneva, Switzerland, there is a record of twice–daily weather observations

scientist but also psychologist, because it decides to succeed in life. In the following essay, the
benefits and the drawbacks of this problem will be discussed.
Let's begin by looking at some definitions. Sinistral people are left – handed dominance, which
means they prefer to write and manipulate with left hand. While ambidextrous people are able to do
tasks equally well with both hands. According to Carey (Right – Handed or Left, n. d), the survey

Results showed that the 7 – 8 years old ambidextrous children acted like right – handed peers, but

these children also have twice the risk of ADHD symptom. ADHD stands for Attention Deficit /

relationships, impulsive behavior and also struggle with low self – esteem and perform badly at
school (Ambidextrous children may have more problems in school, 2010). Those results may make
the ambidextrous children's parents disappointed and worried. Despite those results, Crow claimed
that ambidextrous children just develop later than others, otherwise, they might have a completely

Westerlies: What´s A Prevailing Wind?
What is a prevailing wind? At the point when the wind reliably blows more frequently from one
bearing than from another, it is known as a prevailing wind. A case would be the prevailing winds
that rule the flow in the midlatitudes. In the United States, for instance, these winds reliably move
the "climate" from west to east over the landmass. Implanted inside this general eastbound stream
are cells of high and low weight, with their trademark clockwise and counterclockwise stream.
Subsequently, the winds connected with the westerlies, as measured at the surface, regularly change
greatly from every day and from place to place. "Westerlies are prevailing winds that blow from the
west at midlatitudes". They are nourished by polar easterlies and winds from the high–weight horse
scopes, which trap them on either side. Westerlies are the most powerful in the winter, when weight
over the pole is low, and is the weakest in summer, when the polar high makes more powerful polar
easterlies. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

One Brain or Two? (Psychology) Essay

One Brain or Two?
Numerous researches and experiments have been done based on whether the human being possess
one brain divided into two parts (left and right hemisphere) or whether we have two different brains
working together. The psychologist Roger W. Sperry was the first on research this topic with some
experiments on animals. Then, he later started working with Michael Gazzaniga. They were able to
find split–brain patients. Those patients had their brain split as way of reducing or stopping
uncontrollable epilepsy. Many agreed to participate in the experiments. The experiments that they
held focused on finding out what kind of limitations would each brain have if they operated
independently, how the 5 senses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, it was not the same story with the left hands of the patients (connected to the right
hemisphere). They could match and point at the objects without problem; proving again the lack of
speech ability that the right hemisphere has. The other test held was an auditory test. The test was
done in two different ways. One way was finding the objects in a bag that were mentioned verbally
and the other was identifying the item reached by touch. This test's results were also supporting the
previous researchers' logical conclusion about the left hemisphere ability of speech. It confirmed the
right hemisphere's ability of comprehending language and its ability of expressing it in a nonverbal
way. During the test, evidently, the right hemisphere had no trouble identifying the unknown objects
by touch as the left hemisphere did. Moreover, some three– dimensional drawings of the slit–brain
patients, who were all right handed, developed much better drawings using their left hands
compared with their right hands. Those three types of tests were combined to make new tests. But
the results are all similar to the ones mentioned before. These amazing findings get us to the
conclusion that we possess two different brains with different abilities and behaviors. Gazzaniga
emphasizes the possibility of doubling the brain's performance by separating both halves. In other
words, to put each brain half to

Descriptives Of El Nino
El nino is a temporary change in climate in the pacific ocean,in the region around the equator. You
can see Typically, the ocean surface warms up by a few degrees celsius.
El Niño is a climate cycle in the Pacific Ocean with a global impact on weather patterns. The cycle
begins when warm water in the western tropical Pacific Ocean shifts eastward along the equator
toward the coast of South America
Normally, this warm water pools near Indonesia and the Philippines. During an El Niño, the
Pacific's warmest surface waters sit offshore of northwestern South America.
Forecasters declare an official El Niño when they see both ocean temperatures and rainfall from
storms veer to the east. Experts also look for prevailing trade winds to weaken and even reverse
direction during the El Niño climate phenomenon. These changes set up a feedback loop between
the atmosphere and the ocean that boosts El Niño conditions. The El Niño forecast for 2015 is
expected to be one of the strongest on record, according to Mike Halpert, the deputy director of the
Climate Prediction Center, part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
"We don't want to see just the warming in the ocean. We want to see the atmosphere above the ocean
respond to the changes," said Michelle L'Heureux, a climate scientist and lead for the El Niño
forecasting team at the Climate Prediction Center.

Who Caused Climate Change?
Who Caused Climate Change? Throughout the years, climate change has become a topic that people
are getting more concerned about as years go by. Climate change has an effect on the temperature
around the world which cause nature to change drastically. Cars, airplanes, coal and other man–
made things are considered to an enemies to climate change. Although it is a theory, other people
think that climate change is something that is occurring to naturally by nature. Mankind has been
accused of causing different amount of damage to the world in different ways. Humans cannot
predict what nature has planned for us so we cannot jump to conclusions on the way nature works.
Climate change could be affected by something on earth or may not, but it is yet to be determined.
Climate change has cause harm to the earth and humans in daily basis. Transportation sectors like
cars, airplanes, motorcycles, and equipment with engines produce carbon dioxide which affects the

The 1981 Nobel Prize Of Physiology And Medicine
The 1981 Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine
In the year of 1981 three gentlemen were awarded The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine
where the prize was divided and then shared amongst the three men. At the time of awarding, the
three gentlemen specialized in the field of neurophysiology while two also specialized in the field of
ocular physiology. One–half of the prize was awarded to Roger W. Sperry for his discoveries
involving the cerebral hemispheres whereas the other half was awarded and split between David H.
Hubel and Torsten N. Wiesel for their findings on the visual system. Therefore, together their
research altered how people originally thought the brain processed information by verifying how the
brain functions and why information is perceived in such a manner. The research conducted by
Roger W. Sperry began in the 1960's and dealt solely with the cerebrum. Before this time, society
only understood the left hemisphere of the brain to be dominant over the right hemisphere. In this
understanding, the cerebrum was composed of two halves, which were referred to as the
hemispheres. The cerebrum consisted of the two hemispheres and millions of nerve fibers that
allowed each hemisphere to distinguish what occurred in the other hemisphere. In the same sense, it
was understood that although both the left and right hemisphere were the same in structure, their
functions differed.
According to The Nobel Assembly at the Karolinska Institute press release, "Sperry has

How Did Early European Influence The Development Of Early...
Renaissance intellectuals, artists, and humanists revived classical motifs, values, models, ideas, and
philosophies that glorified humans and made them the measure of all things, and they formulated
new ideas and techniques based on these ideas; most remained Christians despite promoting ideas
that conflicted with Christian views. The invention of the printing press in the 15th century
accelerated the spread of these new ideas, especially north of the Alps. During the Scientific
Revolution, Europeans developed new approaches to looking at the natural world, natural
philosophers and physicians challenged and scrutinized older scientific and medical systems while
developing new ones, and philosophers gave the emerging scientific method a sound foundation
with their comprehensive theories. An internal community of natural philosophers dedicated to
natural science developed, and the natural philosophers collected and analyzed data about the world.

Despite this, many Europeans continued to follow traditional explanations of the natural world, such
as witchcraft, magic, alchemy, and astrology. Three trends shaped the development of early modern
politics. These were the centralization of power and authority, the trend towards an elite consisting
of people distinguished by their talents rather than their family, and the secularization of law and
justice. The introduction of new military technology and strategies started a military revolution that
promoted state centralization. The military revolution raised the cost of maintaining military power
beyond the means of individual lords; it favored monarchs that could increase taxes and spend them

Nerdy Starcat Research Paper
The Nerdy Starcat lives in the deepest part of the ocean which is the ocean floor. Its habitat has to be
very dark, gloomy and cold. When the temperatures are cold, it has the ability to use its thick skin to
keep itself warm. However, if the temperatures are hot, the Nerdy Starcat will overheat due to so
much fur on its body. Because of this, the Nerdy Starcat swims around the ocean floor to create its
homes. Being very picky and cautious about homes and environments, the Nerdy Starcat builds its
home behind the coral reefs. And the shape of its home is a banana. Due to such a unique style and
architecture of a home, fish swimming around it get attracted. The fish then swim towards the
banana and get eaten by the Nerdy Starcat. Having this

Fishing For Northern Pike : A Staple Of Canadian Sports...
Fishing for Northern Pike
The Northern Pike is truly a staple of Canadian sports fishing. It has not only survived the cold
Canadian temperatures, it has thrived for 62 million years. Although this species can be found in
most of the northern hemisphere, the pike as we call it or the jackfish if you're in Manitoba, is
prevalent in Canada as one of our ultimate game fish. The Pike is an ambush predator and once this
fish attacks there is no escape from it razor teeth.
Pike are a very aggressive fish –in and out of the water, so watch your fingers –and typically take
their prey from the side rather than from behind like a bass or other predatory fish. A Pike 's diet
consist of almost anything this predator can fit in its huge mouth, including; small mammals, birds,
insects, leeches, and many types of fish even other pike. Unlike most fish Pike do not only go for the
easy target, a Pike's speed and ambush strategy allows it to prey on anything that passes through
their feeding ground.
Where and When to Fish for Pike
Where and when is directly related to the water temperature. Pike will actively feed when the water
temperature is below 18°c (approximately 65°f). Luckily this means most waters in Canada will
hold actively feeding Pike most of the year, the southern parts of Canada may experience sluggish
pike on a hot summer day. Be sure to check your fishing regulations before heading out for Pike.

The Natural And Physical Aspects Of The World We Live
Physical –Chemical Oceanography I Science is the study of the natural and physical aspects of the
world we live in. Science is the way humans try to understand why the environment acts in the way
it does. Science has set of rules and guidelines that must be followed. The most important step in
science is observation, the point of observation is so that the experiment can be measured and or the
experiment can be repeated with similar or the same results. Hypotheses are then developed to
disprove the observation as many scientists believe hypothesis can never be proven. Opinions are
not facts and are based on subjective influences. Opinions cannot be measured or disproven because
it is personal. Science cannot address all the issues and concerns due to the limit and restrictions it
has. The fact that not everything can be proven shows how science cannot address all the issues.
Even though everyday mankind is creating new technology to help humans better understand nature,
there will always be some elements that are beyond human capabilities. "Water is unique in that it is
the only natural substance that is found in all three states liquid, solid (ice) and gas (steam) at the
temperatures normally found on earth". (http://aquarius.umaine.edu/activities/prop_fresh_sea.pdf) In
order to understand why water has such a high boiling point, high freezing point, and high capacity
of heat the molecule itself has to be examined. The water molecule is made up off a special type of
bond

Rainfall Due to Hurricanes in the Northern Hemisphere...
Hurricane Irene affected the Caribbean and much of the United States' east coast and was one of the
most damaging tropical cyclones of the 2011 Atlantic tropical cyclone season. Irene originated east
of the Lesser Antilles from a well defined Atlantic tropical wave in that area, and became Tropical
Storm Irene on August 20, 2011. Irene reached its highest point as a 120 mph Category 3 hurricane.
Irene was ranked the seventh costliest hurricane with damages that cost around $15.6 billion in the
United States. Irene produced record breaking rainfall across the mid Atlantic and northeastern
United States. The highest rainfall recorded during Hurricane Irene's storm run was in Bayboro,
North Carolina at about 15.7 inches of rain. At ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The study that was analyzed utilizes a Geographic Information System (GIS) to characterize the
spatial patterns of rainfall produced by Irene and to classify other tropical cyclones that took the
same track as Irene over the United States. A GIS is a system that is designed to capture, store,
maneuver, examine, manage, and present all types of geographical data. In order to use the GIS they
first had to identify analog tropical cyclones that took a path similar to Irene over the United States
which they obtained from HURDAT. HURDAT, or the North Atlantic hurricane database, is the
system that keeps all the records for all tropical cyclones in the Atlantic Ocean, Gulf of Mexico, and
the Caribbean Sea, since 1851. Once similar tropical storms were obtained, then the latitude and
longitude coordinates from the six hourly positions of Irene were entered into the GIS and the points
were then transformed into a line feature. This line feature represents Irene's track and it was
buffered by 200 kilometers to allow for the tropical cyclones to be analyzed in this study region. The
tropical cyclones that were similar to Irene were then imported into the GIS. Once the buffer was
applied there were twenty five tropical cyclones with tracks similar to that of Irene. But the track of
the hurricanes wasn't the only thing being studied here, we still have to take

Ocean Literacy: Why Does Ocean Matter?
Why does the ocean matter? Many people find themselves asking this question. They view the
ocean as just being a large part of the planet that takes up significant space (the ocean takes up about
70% of the earth and is responsible for about 97% of the earth's total water). The people who ask
this question would be defined as not being ocean literate. An ocean literate person is one who
understands ocean literacy. This means that they understand the essential principles and fundamental
concepts of ocean literacy, can communicate about the ocean in a meaningful way, and they are able
to make informed decisions that regard the ocean and its resources. But what is Ocean Literacy?

this time, the earth is tilted towards the sun and the Northern Hemisphere is getting more direct

which is later released back into our atmosphere. At the lower atmosphere, water vapor and carbon

My Psychology Course And Remembered About The Cerebral...
I decided to write my literature after going through one of the textbooks in my physiological
psychology course and remembered about the cerebral hemispheres, which receives sensory
information from opposite sides of the body. This got interested in the topic of cerebral hemispheres
and sensory information after a split brain operation. The split brain procedure is a surgical
operation that's used for people that have severe epilepsy that can't be controlled by the drugs they
take. In the brains of people with severe epilepsy, the nerve cells on one side of the brain are
overactive and the overactivity is relayed to the other side by the corpus callosum, a bundle of nerve
cells that connect certain parts of one side of the brain to the other. The corpus callosum enables the
left and right side of the brain to share information so that both sides knows what the other is doing
and perceiving. Both sides of the brain engage in out of control activity that stimulate each other,
causing stereotypical seizures that recur throughout the day preventing the person from living a
normal life. Neurosurgeons have discovered that severing the corpus callosum greatly reduces the
often recurring seizures.
After the brain split procedure, the brain is divided into two hemispheres that work independently of
each other. Their sensory mechanisms, and motor systems no longer relay information. To the casual
observer they disconnection isn't obvious for the elementary reason that one hemisphere–

The Importance Of Weather Patterns In Northern Hemisphere
In recent years the weather patterns are nothing short of crazy. While parts of the Northern
Hemisphere are suffering intolerable cold conditions with floods and excessive winds and snow falls
in the Southern Hemisphere there is extensive droughts, floods, winds and other horrors like super
fires. In Australia as elsewhere the droughts have cost lives as farmers kill off their animals and dig
crops into the ground. Those crying the loudest about the drought gripping their livelihoods are
pictured on acreage where there is barely a tree in sight. The land is devoid of any shade and
animals suffer in extreme temperatures of 40* and more on many days. Where winds are roaring
over the ground bare of any covering it picks up speed and before long

History Of Split Brain Research
Split–Brain Research History of split–brain research Walter Dandy, an American neurosurgeon
unintentionally paved the way into research on split–brain patients in the 1930s. Split–Brain refers
to patients who have had their corpus callosum severed to some extent or in whole. This procedure
was mainly used as an extremely invasive surgical procedure within patients suffering from
intractable epileptic seizures. The corpus callosum consists of over 200 million nerve fibres
connecting the left and right hemispheres of the brain and enables corresponding regions to
communicate. During one of Dandy's surgeries, he had to cut through corpus callosum of a patient
in order to get to an underlying pineal tumour. Following surgery, Dandy observed and performed
psychological and cognitive tests and concluded that splitting the corpus callosum did not cause any
changes in cognitive behaviour In the 1940s, Theordore Erickson performed experiments on
monkeys, in which it became apparent that the corpus callosum plays a role in epileptic seizure
spread. Neurosurgeons William Van Wagenen and R. Yorke Herren took this even further by
performing and pioneering the first known callostomy – the surgical sectioning of the corpus
callosum – specifically to combat epileptic seizures. Prior to and after surgery a series of tests were
performed on these patients by a colleague – psychiatrist Andrew John Akelaitis. These tests
included I.Q., motor skills, and memory testing and general interviews.

Research Paper On Widdershins
Widdershins is the opposite direction as the path the sun appears to move in when viewed from the
Northern Hemisphere. It can also be spelt withershins, widershins, or widderschynnes. Widdershins
is also known as counterclockwise, anti–clockwise, or lefthandwise and is considered the direction
opposite from the usual. Walking around something and always keeping it to your left is walking in
a widdershin motion. The German word widersinin ('against' + 'sense') shares the same origin as
widdershins. The Lowland Scots used the term commonly.
In Wicca and Paganism, widdershins is the opposite direction that a circle is cast; it is instead the
direction that the circle is closed. For sun–worshiping traditions and cultures, widdershins appears to

It is such a strange word that doesn't really share origins or the general feel of its counterpart deosil.
The two are very easy to get switched around in your head; I have to imagine the hands on a clock
going from twelve to seven without passing six to make sure I have it correct. I once won a round of
a game called Balderdash because of the word widdershins. The game has odd and archaic terms
that the players have to write down plausible definitions of the word. One player then reads out the
written and real definitions and the others guess the correct one. I knew the term so I automatically

In conclusion, widdershins means counterclockwise. It is opposite as the apparent direction the sun
travels in the sky in the Northern Hemisphere. It is considered bad luck in folklore to travel
widdershins, especially around churches and fairy rings. It is sometimes viewed as negative, wrong,
or against the norm. To work with negative energy, to banish something, or to close a circle are
reasons to use widdershins in

coast of America still has severe thunderstorms raging across the entire coastline, the west coast was
no better– softball–sized hail rained upon the once–temperate area. Russia and Canada seemed to be
the worst off; both countries were reporting sub–zero temperatures and thick snowfall. Pressure

Comparing Lyra, Apollo's Metamorp To The Poet Orpheus
Lyra, Apollo's gift of a harp to the poet Orpheus. Lyra is one of the smallest, yet beautiful and rich
constellations in the heavens. Its mythology is rich and the constellation assisted greatly in travel in
the Northern Hemisphere. Vega, one of the brightest star in the sky is also apart of Lyra. This
constellation was first discovered by the Egyptian Muggle Astronomer Ptolemy during the 2nd
Century. Ptolemy first interpreted Lyra as the Greek instrument of the lyre, as the outer stars took
the form of the frame, with the inner stars forming the strings. The tale surrounding Orpheus was
developed later after its discovery Creation Mythology Apollo, God of Music gave the young
Orpheus a golden lyre created in the forges of Olympus, and taught the boy how to play it. Orpheus
led a privileged life, being the son of the Thracian King, allowing his skills on the instrument to
flourish as he grew older. Orpheus' lyre music could charm even the dullest of life, and satisfied the
greatest rulers in the land. Orpheus eventually became a member of the Argonauts, led by the
famous hero Jason. While on their journey for the Golden Fleece, the Argonauts encountered the
islands of the infamous Sirens. These Sirens were known to sing in such a way that would drag the
sailors towards them, forcing them to crash into the rocks were they resided. Orpheus sounded great
music with his lyre, drowning the song of the Siren and allowing the Argonauts to sail through the
rocks without trouble. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Winter Solstice And Northern Hemisphere
When the earth rotates on its axis it starts to changes seasons. But that 's depending where you live
you and if you are on the different sides of the earth. That are known as the Northern Hemisphere
and Southern Hemisphere. I say this because it may be summer in America but winter in Australia.
But it can also change the weather if you think about it because during the different seasons the
temperature changes. For example where we live it gets really hot over one–hundred Fahrenheit. But
in the winter time it usually stays over Thirty–Five Fahrenheit. But that 's because of the Summer
Solstice. The Summer Solstice is one of the biggest parts of one of our seasons. The season I 'm
talking about is known as summer because that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then there is winter and it starts to get cold but we still see the sun. That 's because during the
winter time the days are getting shorter and we are now tilted down not up. When earth tilts on its
axis one side of earth is facing up to the sun and having summer well the other is titled the down
having winter. The tilt changes position when it traveling around the sun so that 's one reason why
we don't always have summer. You may be asking yourself why is it cold in the winter time when
the sun out. Well that 's because during the winter time we get less sunlight and what also happens is
that the heat kind of shrinks. During the Summer Solstice we know that it 's the hottest day. But that
's because it is when the sun is shining the brightest on us. So when the days start to get shorter so
does the light and so it goes from this really huge thing of sun light to just shining on one place on
earth but we can still see because of how big the sun is. The Earth 's Axis tilts at twenty three point
five degrees and the earth goes around that axis every day or also known as twenty four hours. I say
this because I 'm going to bring up The Wobble effect and how earth rotates. So we already know
that it rotates at a twenty three point five degrees but if I told it could change over the years. Well it
can because in thirteen thousand years earth will be

Teachings of the Bible and the Christian Church About Human Responsibility for the World
The Bible contains many teachings about our human responsibility towards the created world. It
talks about the start of creation in Genesis. Here it is made clear that human beings are made in the
image of God so that they can continue his good work. At the outset they are given power over the
rest of creation and now if all humans work together to make the world a better place they will be
more powerful so it will happen, but even if just a few people are not willing to help then all will fall
apart (see poster).
The other implication here is that the power comes with responsibility. The role of human beings ...

Unfortunately, the people most affected are those who are poorer. The greed and pollution of people
in the Northern Hemisphere is having a serious impact on global warming and the worst effects f
this are experienced not by us in the Northern Hemisphere but by those in the Southern Hemisphere.
These people, already living in great poverty, then suffer even greater problems in terms of severe
droughts, famines, flooding etc., which leaves them even poorer. The Bible makes it quite clear that
in terms of looking after the world, we have a duty not only to look after the environment but also to
look after our fellow human beings. Hence the most important teaching, "Love thy neighbour as
yourself". Jesus made it quite clear in the story he told about the Good Samaritan that our neighbour
is anyone and everyone who is in need, even our enemy, irrespective of their race/colour/religion.
Another important teaching, called one body many parts, makes it clear that human beings
physically make up the body of God here on Earth. We are therefore his hands; his feet etc and
therefore we should do what he would do himself if he were physically present. What we should do
is look after our neighbour. Furthermore, if just some of us, (one tiny bit of the body) does not do
what it is supposed to do then everyone else will be weakened. We must work together in

Constellations In The Northern Hemisphere

  • 1. Constellations In The Northern Hemisphere THE NORTHERN HEMISPHERE CONSTELLATIONS The constellations in the Northern hemisphere that I chose to observe are: Sagittarius, Scorpius, Hercules, Aquila and Ophiuchus. The constellations have been used for quite a few things like navigation, agriculture and used to predicted the seasons and more. The many two that the ancient people used the constellations for were navigation and agriculture. The ancient Greeks and Romans used the North Star called Polaris just by looking at how high Polaris appeared in the sky at night. This allows them to sail the ships across the seas and to let them know where they are in the sea. The European also used the constellations to sail across the sea for the discovery of America and the spread of European ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I observe tried Scorpius with my own eyes but I could not find it so I used my telescope to find it and observe it. The best time to see the Scorpius is in the evening around 8:45pm. According to what my telescope information it said that is due to the fact that we are looking in the direction close to the center of our galaxy. I observe many stars in this area, and it is unfortunate for us in northern hemisphere that the observing season for this constellation is cut short both by the brief summer evenings. The constellation of Hercules is one of the original 48 constellations plotted by 2nd century astrophysicist Ptolemy and remains today as one of the modern 88 constellations. I did not observe the Hercules constellation. My telescope pointed in the direction of the constellation but it was to faint for me to see it. The info from the telescope said the best time to observe is in the middle of May. Hercules is large and ranks as the 5th largest of all, across a remarkable 1225 square degrees of ... • 3. The Machine Stops Essay example In The Machine Stops, E.M. Forster projects life years from now where people live underground with extreme technological advances. Also, people live separated in little rooms where they find a variety of buttons they can press in order to perform any task they desire. They do not communicate with people face to face as often as we do now. Without a doubt, their society is very different from ours. All of the inhabitants are used to living along with the Machine and it is hard for them to imagine life without everything the Machine is able to facilitate. People are so caught up with technology that they find it absurd to spend time in nature. Because of the dependence people have towards the Machine, they have somewhat lost their humanity ... It is weird to see this kind of behavior coming from a mother because mothers usually worry a lot for their children and try to dedicate as much time as possible to them. At last she decides to visit him and uses the air–ship as transportation. As Vashti expresses her experiences in her journey, one notices how inhumane and out of touch she and everyone else is. She is shocked when a man dropped his book and he, himself, picks it up from the floor without any help from the Machine. Vashti becomes very anxious because she is not used to this type of behavior and neither talking or interacting with people. It was three months ago the last time she actually had a face to face conversation with someone and so feels very intimidated and scared. "People were almost exactly alike all over the world, but the attendant of the air–ship, perhaps owing to her exceptional duties, had grown a little out of the common. She had often to address passengers with direct speech, and this had given her a certain roughness and originality of manner." (p.118) Because she was feeling uncomfortable in this voyage she finds support and comfort by touching and reciting to the Book which is a manual that teaches people how to function the Machine. Vashti also became annoyed when a ray of sunlight was touching her; the attendant had to move her to another seat because of all her complaints. • 5. The Brain Is The Most Important Part Of The Human Brain When you think of the brain, think of it as the most important part of the human body. The brain is the strongest part of the body and can easily be damaged. Not only is it easy to damage but it also has the ability to take in a lot of new information to increase one's intelligence. Think of the brain like a computer or even a sponge. The brain has six very important parts to it, the lobes play a very important part to the brain. The lobes break down into four different parts these four parts are the frontal, temporal, occipital and the parietal lobe. These four lobes are what makes the brain look so cool. Everyones is born with their own maze of a brain but with in that maze ever one has the four lobes. The four lobes all have different jobs. As you said in the video that we watched for week one the frontal lobe controls the thinking and the planning. To me, I think the frontal lobe is the most important lobe of them all. The frontal lobe continues to grow as you get older, the reason for that is because it's more like a memory card as well, the older you get the more memories you tend to have. The second of the of the six most important parts is the motor cortex. The motor cortex is to the body what and the engine is to a car. The motor cortex is what helps the body move. The cortex is what controls the bodies movement. If you happen to damage the motor cortex you're more than likely going to be paralyzed. The third part of the brain is your brain stem is another ... • 7. Rapid Climate Change Events During The Period Between 10ka... The last glacial period has encountered numerous large–magnitude, rapid climate change events; characterising the period between 10ka and 50ka (Steig, 1999). During this period was the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM), which occurred approximately 21ka, a glacial period defined by changes in greenhouse gases, sea level and ice sheets (Otto–Bliesner et al., 2006). In comparison the mid– Holocene occurred approximately 6000 years ago, during the current interglacial. The Holocene period is regarded as relatively muted in terms of 'signals' of climate change, with changes primarily associated with changes in seasonal solar radiance (Otto–Bliesner et al., 2006; Steig, 1999). Models have been constructed in order to replicate the past climates, with specific reference to 'The Community Climate System Model: Version 3' (CCSM3), aimed to define continental scale dynamics, variability and climate change (Collins et al., 2006). With the use of models the environmental variation between the LGM and mid–Holocene periods can be construed. Roche et al (2007) refers to the LGM as the classic benchmark for models, enhanced by the use of proxy data associated with ocean surfaces, vegetation, oceanic–circulation and atmospheric conditions. Clark et al (2009) presented the extent of the LGM, with growth of ice–sheets to their maximum extent occurring between 33ka and 26.5ka; primarily in response to climate forcing from decreases in northern summer insolation, tropical Pacific sea surface ... The way Tessa is described you would see some torn clothes and long hair. Like most people in a century long war, they want peace and harmony. Antagonist In my story there are absolutely no antagonists. In the history of my book there is a war that split the world into two sides. They both believed they were doing the right thing. There were computers that tricked the humans into not fighting, for most of the war. So the story as stupid as it is, is just a misunderstanding. The main character learns that everything she has been told is not true. Those who did not adapt in the story went crazy. These people in the story were forced to live terrible lives for nothing. Figurative language and humor The Author used figurative language for people to get how major or little the sentence is, like when it said "whispers of excitement float through the crowd." Another instance was when the book states "he could have been an angel or a saint...." which means he is a good person. The last example, is when it stated "the crowd's whispers rippled." These were used to show importance of these moments. Social issues Characters are treated very differently because if you are not a high ranking military official you are poor. • 11. How Did British Colonization Affect The Development Of The... Main Idea 1 Seventeenth–century Spanish, French, Dutch, and British colonizers embraced different social and economic goals, cultural assumptions, and folkways, resulting in varied models of colonization. Spain sought to establish tight control over the process of colonization in the Western Hemisphere and to convert and/or exploit the native population. French and Dutch colonial efforts involved relatively few Europeans and used trade alliances and intermarriage with American Indians to acquire furs and other products for export to Europe. Unlike their European competitors, the English eventually sought to establish colonies based on agriculture, sending relatively large numbers of men and women to acquire land and populate their settlements, while having relatively hostile relationships with American Indians. The British–American system of slavery developed out of the economic, demographic, and geographic characteristics of the British–controlled regions of the New World. Reinforced by a strong belief in British racial and cultural superiority, the British system enslaved black people in perpetuity, altered African gender and kinship relationships in the colonies, and was one factor that led the British colonists into violent confrontations with native peoples. The New England colonies, founded primarily by Puritans seeking to establish a community of like– minded religious believers, developed a close–knit, homogeneous society and a thriving mixed economy of agriculture ... For this argument, Hyman et al. constructed an experiment to show the occurrence of false memories in less that common childhood events including spilling punch at a wedding and a sprinkler system going off a at grocery store. For one variation of this study, Hyman et al. implanted the memory of an overnight hospitalization with a high fever, and possible ear infection. The participants were told they were going to be asked about events from their childhood based on information provided by their parents. They were then given the titles of the events (including the false visit to the hospital) and asked to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some ideas in the field include looking at the response speed of the recollection of memories, and the emotion felt when recalling the memory (Reisberg). A common assumption is that the confidence with which memory is recalled could indicate its accuracy. However, there is very little association with how sure someone is about the occurrence of an event and how accurate their recollection is. We are often sure of our false memories. Smith, Ellsworth, and Kassin explain this in their study on Eyewitness Accuracy and Confidence. They note that most officials in court cases overwhelmingly believe confidence in eyewitness testimony to be positively correlated with accuracy. To disprove this, they studied about 100 undergraduate students from Stanford University. They had the students watch a car accident, participate in a filler task, and then answer questions about the car accident. They were asked to rate the confidence on their answers on a scale of 1 (no clue) to 10 (absolutely sure). The researchers then computed the correlation of accuracy and confidence and found the same conclusion as Reisberg explained: confidence can not be solid an indicator of accuracy (Smith 358). In fact, the more we are asked to recall a memory, the more confident we become, which is unfortunate because it 's easy to create a false memory. Let us take an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. The Intertropical Convergence Zone Plays a Large Role in... The intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) is a permanent low–pressure feature that lies on the meteorological equator. It is characterisied by lots of cloud cover and precipitation (Andrews et al., 2003). The ITCZ plays a significant role in the climate and weather events in the tropics. The clouds created by the ITCZ also provide an important form of albedo in the tropics (Waliser and Gautier, 1993),which has an effect on global climate. Tropical events such as monsoon and cyclones occur in the ITCZ and are products of the unique convection system found around the ITCZ (Yancheva et al., 2007, Ferreira and Schubert, 1997).The ITCZ is a product of humid trade winds from the northern and southern hemisphere converging and then rising. This rising of humid air usually results in precipitation over the tropics(Waliser and Somerville, 1994). This rising of the humid air acts as the driving force in the Hadley Cell (Waliser and Somerville, 1994). The ITCZ is a product of high levels of solar radiation and high amounts of latent heat released from the ocean (Andrews et al., 2003). It is important to realize that the ITCZ moves throughout the year depending on the seasons, it is likely to be found in the southern hemisphere in the southern hemisphere summer and in the northern hemisphere during the northern hemispheres summer. However the ITCZ is more likely to be found in the Northern hemisphere (Waliser and Somerville, 1994). The ITCZ plays a large role in many of the climatic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. The Beginning A History Of New Zealand 's Ufo Activity the Beginning... A history of New Zealand's UFO activity BY TONY LUCAS 12/01/2014 UFO SIGHTINGS Historically, most of the Northern Hemisphere holds the attention of many when it comes to paranormal activity, UFO's, Cryptozoology and strange phenomena. UFO What I hope to bring forth in these articles is the often not heard of Phenomena that is just as prevalent in the Southern Hemisphere. As an Independent UFO Investigator myself I will however ask the readers forgiveness if I often indulge myself in that field. Being a New Zealander, it is often not recognized that New Zealand has many unheard of mysteries and its fair share of UFO activity. We also have our own version of Bigfoot known as the Moehau, also a mystery otter like creature, alien big cats, and more. Our nearest neighbor, Australia also has its fair share of UFO sightings, Criptids (animals that are not known or presumed extinct), and strange phenomena. As a UFO Investigator, I like to make quite clear how easy it is to be fooled. Often, what we think we see is not what it appears to be. In the case of UFO's, weather balloons, the planet Venus, satellites and other man–made phenomena are often mistaken for UFOs. My belief is that once you have eliminated all the obvious and, sometimes the not so obvious, whatever you are left with must be the answer. New Zealand has a long history of UFO activity beginning in the late 19th century with the airship flap of the period, when there was a rash of sightings of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Argumentative Essay On Climate Change Even if one doesn't follow the climate change debate by their own free will, it's almost impossible to avoid the discussion on climate change altogether. This is because climate change effects so many areas of daily life, which makes exposure to the discussion on climate change almost unavoidable. Recently, Hurricane Harvey, Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria ravaged parts of the Southern United States and the Caribbean. Many people felt that they have been hearing about or experiencing more hurricanes than ever before–or speculating that in general, hurricanes are becoming more powerful and damaging. Quickly, the spotlight fell on climate change. Does the changing climate have the capacity to alter nature's biggest catastrophe? Does the rising temperature or changing composition of atmospheric gases have the potential to make hurricanes more intense and frequent? Climate change, which rises the temperature above the oceans, provides optimum conditions for the occurrence of more intense hurricanes. Climate change is the term used to describe the changing weather patterns over a certain amount of time (O'Brien 2006, 65). Both experts and common–folk alike have differing opinions about the cause of climate change–is it completely natural and cyclic or has climate change been accelerated by human activity? Whatever your opinion, one would be hard pressed to argue that climate change isn't occurring at all–May 2012 was the 327th month straight in which the temperature of the ... • 21. The El Nino Southern Oscillation Abstract The El–Niño Southern Oscillation is a complex sequence of natural climate variations that take place in the tropics of the Pacific Ocean, yet affect the climate of the entire globe. The climate phenomenon, known as ENSO, has three main phases that each differ markedly in their atmospheric and oceanic conditions. El Niño, also known as "the warm phase", is the first cycle that begins when warm water in the eastern Pacific Ocean shifts to the west toward South America. During El Niño, the east–to–west trade winds halt and sometimes reverse directions, causing significant disturbances in the biological life of the Pacific Ocean. Conversely, La Niña is the complete opposite of El Niño. La Niña, also called "the cold phase" brings unusually strong east–to–west winds and colder temperatures along the equatorial Pacific. Both phases have consequences that affect the regular atmospheric conditions of the world; El Niño is linked to both droughts and floods, La Niña is linked to extreme tropical cyclones and monsoon rains. The climatic events also have relationships to forest fires, economic changes, famine, plagues and widespread crop failure. The study of ENSO is necessary in order to attempt to reveal patterns and key factors that can affect the intensity and severity of this phenomenon that occurs globally on average every two to seven years. • 23. Left Brain Right Brain Theory Left–brained, right–brained, what's really the difference between the two? It may be surprising but the cerebrum of the brain is split into two different hemispheres, both of which perform different tasks and focus on different thoughts. Researchers use this very information to understand the cerebral hemisphere functions, specifically researchers use a theory known as Left Brain–Right Brain Theory. This essay will discuss the basic principal of the Left Brain–Right Brain Theory, the three major points of the Left Brain– Right Brain Theory, the functions of each hemisphere, and a scenario that favors the Left Brain–Right Brain Theory in school education. Roger Sperry a famous pioneer involved in the field of cerebral hemispheres began the development of the commonly known, Left Brain–Right Brain Theory. Before officially developing his theory, Sperry went on to study the effects of epilepsy and perform split brain research (cutting of the corpus); from Sperry's split brain research he learned that cutting the corpus could either eliminate or lessen seizures in patients. Additionally, Sperry found that patients with split brain could not identify objects if handled on the right side of the brain; patients could however identify objects processed on the left side of the brain. From this information, Sperry was able to propose that the left side of the brain controlled the language aspects of a human. With Sperry's previous observations, researchers continued to conduct studies on the cerebral hemisphere of the brain, researchers found that the left hemisphere of the brain specialized in language, speech, hand mechanics (writing),mathematical calculations, senses of rhythm and time, and any sort of thought used for analysing information. On the other hand, researchers found that the right hemisphere of the brain focused on perception, visualization, faces, emotions harmonies, spatial perception, and nonverbal communication.Ultimately, this theory is a comparison between the left hemisphere and the right hemisphere of the brain. According to this hemispheric theory, there are three major points that are known within the Left Brain– Right Brain Theory. The first point being that the left hemisphere and the right ... • 25. The Northern Hemisphere Eighteen Hundred and Froze to Death In 1816, sections of the northern hemisphere experienced a "year without a summer." The average summer temperatures across the northeastern United States, Canadian Maritime Provinces and much of Europe were colder than any other year in the previous 600 years, with the exception of the summer of 1601. The estimated mean surface temperature anomaly for the northern hemisphere in 1816 is –0.51 K. In Europe, temperatures averaged 1–2 C cooler than was typical of the surrounding years, and there was also an increase in precipitation. The most common explanation for this climate anomaly is that it was caused by the 1815 eruption in Indonesia of Tambora, "the largest known eruption in history." The summer of 1816 also occurred during a period of reduced solar activity, known as the Dalton Minimum, which may have contributed as well. Fig. 1. "Reconstructed surface temperature anomalies computed from latewood density in tree rings for summer 1816. Source: based on data in Briffa et al. (1998)" The map above shows the areas affected most, determined through the use of dendrochronological data (derived from tree rings). Geneva In addition to dendrochronological data, there is also an instrumental record for 1816 and the surrounding years. In Geneva, Switzerland, there is a record of twice–daily weather observations made from 1799 to 1821 without change in instruments or location. Throughout the history, there are a lot of debates about which is right – handed or left – handed, even ambidextrous better. This issue has been argued and resulted in many sides by not only scientist but also psychologist, because it decides to succeed in life. In the following essay, the benefits and the drawbacks of this problem will be discussed. Let's begin by looking at some definitions. At the point when the wind reliably blows more frequently from one bearing than from another, it is known as a prevailing wind. A case would be the prevailing winds that rule the flow in the midlatitudes. In the United States, for instance, these winds reliably move the "climate" from west to east over the landmass. Implanted inside this general eastbound stream are cells of high and low weight, with their trademark clockwise and counterclockwise stream. Subsequently, the winds connected with the westerlies, as measured at the surface, regularly change greatly from every day and from place to place. "Westerlies are prevailing winds that blow from the west at midlatitudes". They are nourished by polar easterlies and winds from the high–weight horse scopes, which trap them on either side. Westerlies are the most powerful in the winter, when weight over the pole is low, and is the weakest in summer, when the polar high makes more powerful polar easterlies. ... Numerous researches and experiments have been done based on whether the human being possess one brain divided into two parts (left and right hemisphere) or whether we have two different brains working together. The psychologist Roger W. Sperry was the first on research this topic with some experiments on animals. Then, he later started working with Michael Gazzaniga. They were able to find split–brain patients. Those patients had their brain split as way of reducing or stopping uncontrollable epilepsy. Many agreed to participate in the experiments. The experiments that they held focused on finding out what kind of limitations would each brain have if they operated independently, how the 5 senses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, it was not the same story with the left hands of the patients (connected to the right hemisphere). They could match and point at the objects without problem; proving again the lack of speech ability that the right hemisphere has. The other test held was an auditory test. The test was done in two different ways. One way was finding the objects in a bag that were mentioned verbally and the other was identifying the item reached by touch. This test's results were also supporting the previous researchers' logical conclusion about the left hemisphere ability of speech. It confirmed the right hemisphere's ability of comprehending language and its ability of expressing it in a nonverbal way. During the test, evidently, the right hemisphere had no trouble identifying the unknown objects by touch as the left hemisphere did. Moreover, some three– dimensional drawings of the slit–brain patients, who were all right handed, developed much better drawings using their left hands compared with their right hands. Those three types of tests were combined to make new tests. But the results are all similar to the ones mentioned before. These amazing findings get us to the conclusion that we possess two different brains with different abilities and behaviors. Descriptives Of El Nino El nino is a temporary change in climate in the pacific ocean,in the region around the equator. You can see Typically, the ocean surface warms up by a few degrees celsius. El Niño is a climate cycle in the Pacific Ocean with a global impact on weather patterns. The cycle begins when warm water in the western tropical Pacific Ocean shifts eastward along the equator toward the coast of South America Normally, this warm water pools near Indonesia and the Philippines. During an El Niño, the Pacific's warmest surface waters sit offshore of northwestern South America. Forecasters declare an official El Niño when they see both ocean temperatures and rainfall from storms veer to the east. Experts also look for prevailing trade winds to weaken and even reverse direction during the El Niño climate phenomenon. These changes set up a feedback loop between the atmosphere and the ocean that boosts El Niño conditions. The El Niño forecast for 2015 is expected to be one of the strongest on record, according to Mike Halpert, the deputy director of the Climate Prediction Center, part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. "We don't want to see just the warming in the ocean. We want to see the atmosphere above the ocean respond to the changes," said Michelle L'Heureux, a climate scientist and lead for the El Niño forecasting team at the Climate Prediction Center. At the time of awarding, the three gentlemen specialized in the field of neurophysiology while two also specialized in the field of ocular physiology. One–half of the prize was awarded to Roger W. Sperry for his discoveries involving the cerebral hemispheres whereas the other half was awarded and split between David H. Hubel and Torsten N. Wiesel for their findings on the visual system. Therefore, together their research altered how people originally thought the brain processed information by verifying how the brain functions and why information is perceived in such a manner. The research conducted by Roger W. Sperry began in the 1960's and dealt solely with the cerebrum. Before this time, society only understood the left hemisphere of the brain to be dominant over the right hemisphere. In this understanding, the cerebrum was composed of two halves, which were referred to as the hemispheres. The cerebrum consisted of the two hemispheres and millions of nerve fibers that allowed each hemisphere to distinguish what occurred in the other hemisphere. In the same sense, it was understood that although both the left and right hemisphere were the same in structure, their functions differed. Renaissance intellectuals, artists, and humanists revived classical motifs, values, models, ideas, and philosophies that glorified humans and made them the measure of all things, and they formulated new ideas and techniques based on these ideas; most remained Christians despite promoting ideas that conflicted with Christian views. During the Scientific Revolution, Europeans developed new approaches to looking at the natural world, natural philosophers and physicians challenged and scrutinized older scientific and medical systems while developing new ones, and philosophers gave the emerging scientific method a sound foundation with their comprehensive theories. It has not only survived the cold Canadian temperatures, it has thrived for 62 million years. Although this species can be found in most of the northern hemisphere, the pike as we call it or the jackfish if you're in Manitoba, is prevalent in Canada as one of our ultimate game fish. The Pike is an ambush predator and once this fish attacks there is no escape from it razor teeth. Pike are a very aggressive fish –in and out of the water, so watch your fingers –and typically take their prey from the side rather than from behind like a bass or other predatory fish. A Pike 's diet consist of almost anything this predator can fit in its huge mouth, including; small mammals, birds, insects, leeches, and many types of fish even other pike. Unlike most fish Pike do not only go for the easy target, a Pike's speed and ambush strategy allows it to prey on anything that passes through their feeding ground. Where and When to Fish for Pike Where and when is directly related to the water temperature. Pike will actively feed when the water temperature is below 18°c (approximately 65°f). Luckily this means most waters in Canada will hold actively feeding Pike most of the year, the southern parts of Canada may experience sluggish pike on a hot summer day. • 51. The Natural And Physical Aspects Of The World We Live Physical –Chemical Oceanography I Science is the study of the natural and physical aspects of the world we live in. Science is the way humans try to understand why the environment acts in the way it does. Science has set of rules and guidelines that must be followed. The most important step in science is observation, the point of observation is so that the experiment can be measured and or the experiment can be repeated with similar or the same results. Hypotheses are then developed to disprove the observation as many scientists believe hypothesis can never be proven. Opinions are not facts and are based on subjective influences. Opinions cannot be measured or disproven because it is personal. Science cannot address all the issues and concerns due to the limit and restrictions it has. The fact that not everything can be proven shows how science cannot address all the issues. Even though everyday mankind is creating new technology to help humans better understand nature, there will always be some elements that are beyond human capabilities. I decided to write my literature after going through one of the textbooks in my physiological psychology course and remembered about the cerebral hemispheres, which receives sensory information from opposite sides of the body. This got interested in the topic of cerebral hemispheres and sensory information after a split brain operation. The split brain procedure is a surgical operation that's used for people that have severe epilepsy that can't be controlled by the drugs they take. In the brains of people with severe epilepsy, the nerve cells on one side of the brain are overactive and the overactivity is relayed to the other side by the corpus callosum, a bundle of nerve cells that connect certain parts of one side of the brain to the other. The corpus callosum enables the left and right side of the brain to share information so that both sides knows what the other is doing and perceiving. Both sides of the brain engage in out of control activity that stimulate each other, causing stereotypical seizures that recur throughout the day preventing the person from living a normal life. Neurosurgeons have discovered that severing the corpus callosum greatly reduces the often recurring seizures. After the brain split procedure, the brain is divided into two hemispheres that work independently of each other. Their sensory mechanisms, and motor systems no longer relay information. To the casual observer they disconnection isn't obvious for the elementary reason that one hemisphere– ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 63. History Of Split Brain Research Split–Brain Research History of split–brain research Walter Dandy, an American neurosurgeon unintentionally paved the way into research on split–brain patients in the 1930s. Split–Brain refers to patients who have had their corpus callosum severed to some extent or in whole. This procedure was mainly used as an extremely invasive surgical procedure within patients suffering from intractable epileptic seizures. The corpus callosum consists of over 200 million nerve fibres connecting the left and right hemispheres of the brain and enables corresponding regions to communicate. During one of Dandy's surgeries, he had to cut through corpus callosum of a patient in order to get to an underlying pineal tumour. Following surgery, Dandy observed and performed psychological and cognitive tests and concluded that splitting the corpus callosum did not cause any changes in cognitive behaviour In the 1940s, Theordore Erickson performed experiments on monkeys, in which it became apparent that the corpus callosum plays a role in epileptic seizure spread. Neurosurgeons William Van Wagenen and R. Yorke Herren took this even further by performing and pioneering the first known callostomy – the surgical sectioning of the corpus callosum – specifically to combat epileptic seizures. Prior to and after surgery a series of tests were performed on these patients by a colleague – psychiatrist Andrew John Akelaitis. These tests included I.Q., motor skills, and memory testing and general interviews. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Its mythology is rich and the constellation assisted greatly in travel in the Northern Hemisphere. Vega, one of the brightest star in the sky is also apart of Lyra. This constellation was first discovered by the Egyptian Muggle Astronomer Ptolemy during the 2nd Century. Ptolemy first interpreted Lyra as the Greek instrument of the lyre, as the outer stars took the form of the frame, with the inner stars forming the strings. The tale surrounding Orpheus was developed later after its discovery Creation Mythology Apollo, God of Music gave the young Orpheus a golden lyre created in the forges of Olympus, and taught the boy how to play it. Orpheus led a privileged life, being the son of the Thracian King, allowing his skills on the instrument to flourish as he grew older. Well that 's because during the winter time we get less sunlight and what also happens is that the heat kind of shrinks. During the Summer Solstice we know that it 's the hottest day. But that 's because it is when the sun is shining the brightest on us. So when the days start to get shorter so does the light and so it goes from this really huge thing of sun light to just shining on one place on earth but we can still see because of how big the sun is. The Earth 's Axis tilts at twenty three point five degrees and the earth goes around that axis every day or also known as twenty four hours. I say this because I 'm going to bring up The Wobble effect and how earth rotates. So we already know that it rotates at a twenty three point five degrees but if I told it could change over the years. Well it can because in thirteen thousand years earth will be ... Teachings of the Bible and the Christian Church About Human Responsibility for the World The Bible contains many teachings about our human responsibility towards the created world. It talks about the start of creation in Genesis. Here it is made clear that human beings are made in the image of God so that they can continue his good work. At the outset they are given power over the rest of creation and now if all humans work together to make the world a better place they will be more powerful so it will happen, but even if just a few people are not willing to help then all will fall apart (see poster). The other implication here is that the power comes with responsibility. The role of human beings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unfortunately, the people most affected are those who are poorer. The greed and pollution of people in the Northern Hemisphere is having a serious impact on global warming and the worst effects f this are experienced not by us in the Northern Hemisphere but by those in the Southern Hemisphere. These people, already living in great poverty, then suffer even greater problems in terms of severe droughts, famines, flooding etc., which leaves them even poorer. The Bible makes it quite clear that in terms of looking after the world, we have a duty not only to look after the environment but also to look after our fellow human beings. Hence the most important teaching, "Love thy neighbour as yourself". Jesus made it quite clear in the story he told about the Good Samaritan that our neighbour is anyone and everyone who is in need, even our enemy, irrespective of their race/colour/religion. Another important teaching, called one body many parts, makes it clear that human beings physically make up the body of God here on Earth. We are therefore his hands; his feet etc and therefore we should do what he would do himself if he were physically present. What we should do is look after our neighbour. Furthermore, if just some of us, (one tiny bit of the body) does not do what it is supposed to do then everyone else will be weakened. We must work together in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 77. Santa Clause Creative Writing Santa Clause leaned his head against the sled, letting out a long sigh. It had been a tough evening so far. The northern hemisphere was down, but he still had one more hemisphere to go, and he had no idea what might be in store for him there. Santa's thoughts ran to–and–fro from what if I never reach all the kids on time or what if the kids begin to lose faith in me? So, he quickly picked up his reins and gave them a slap, "whoop, whoop," he called out to his reindeers, but exhaustion was creeping in. He noticed the fluffy clouds taking the forms of little children and candy canes, train sets, and teddy bears. His eyelids grew too heavy to keep them open, and his head dropped to one side. Santa fell into a deep slumber... Slop, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Suddenly, his thoughts were awakened by a rumbling song in the distance, and the dog ran ahead. "Wait up," Santa Clause shouted toward the direction the dog was running. He quickly hurried and came upon an old swag man sitting by the fire. Finally someone to talk to! Santa walked up to the man and began spilling his story. "Hi, I'm sure you know me, right? The outfit kind of gives it away, but anyway. My sled has crashed and lies in pieces, my reindeer have all but gone. I need water, I'm so parched. And I have no way of getting out, I'm stuck, and.... "Whoa, whoa, whoa. Take a breather me old mate. Let's just begin with your name." "What?" said Santa, "I thought we clarified that already?" Oh dear, another helpless vagabond who doesn't know my name. "It's Santa Clause". "Who of what cause?" the old man said in bewilderment. "You know. S.A.N.T.A. C.L.A.U.S.E." "Eh," The swag man said cocking his head and levelling his eyebrow. "Oh, never mind. I'm too much in a hurry to explain. I need a sled and my reindeers to continue my journey before it is too late. Have you seen them at all?" Looking down at his time watch he exclaimed, "Golly, look at the time! It's nearly past 1:30 am. I need supplies. Isn't there any other village around here?" "Ay, but it's too late for all that. I say first you just need to sit down and take a cuppa with me," said the swag man calmly. "I don't see all this rush in anything". "No I cannot. There's ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
