Reflective Essay About Strength
I believe one must struggle to stumble across their strength. In order to discover strength, one must
fail, and overcome that failure to discover their strength. Strength is something that I have valued
and built within my lifetime. I am extremely family orientated and I have parents that embolden my
siblings and I to take on challenges on our own. Encouraging us to obtain jobs, paying for
necessities, making our own mistakes and developing our own problem solving skills was essential
in their parenting. They wanted us to procure responsibility and prepare for the real world. My
parents wanted me to grow as a strong individual which is exactly why they let me make mistakes
and solve them on my own.
Although, I have struggled with a number of obstacles and dealt with them on my own, something
that affected me in a great way and was difficult for me to deal with was watching my mom
struggle, herself. My mom has always battled mental illnesses. I ... Show more content on

She often gets frustrated and stressed owing to the countless doctor appointments she continues to
have. Due to the oxygen loss to her brain, she struggles to remember just about anything. My house
is covered in sticky notes with to do lists. These sticky notes to me represent strength. They remind
me how strong my family was required to be. I will continue to take on life and overcome obstacles
with this experience. I will continue to support my mom as she struggles, and remind her how strong
she is. Without this struggle, I would not have been able to see how strong I truly can be. I had to
have the strength to understand I cannot control all events, but I can have the strength to not be
reduced by them. I am extremely grateful my mother was able to teach me I can find strength every
time I fall, and I can take on any obstacle that comes in my way. I would not be this strong, if I had
an easy past. I am thankful for tough

Human Struggle In The Tokyo Story
In Ozu's film, the Tokyo Story, has many scenes that define the human struggle, such as the struggle
to make a living, aging and death of loved ones, and the way children eventually fall apart from their
parents when they get older. The one human struggle from Ozu's film that influenced the most
empathy is the inevitable truth of life that the struggle for survival in society eventually drifts
individuals apart such as parents and they're children when they begin to live independently and
become to take care for only themselves because of their daily busy lives.
From this film, Ozu introduces a few scenes to compare the similarities of different generations in
the relationship between children and parents. The first scene that begins this comparison is when
Koichi's son, Minoru, had high hopes of going sightseeing with his parents and grandparents, but
when suddenly Koichi had to go see his sick patient and the plans got cancelled, Minoru was very
disappointed and angry with his parents because he mentions that they always say they will go next
time, but they never seem to keep their words. Ozu includes this scene to show how often parents
never seem to keep their promises with their children because they're constantly busy with their own
things and not have enough free time to spend time with them. It's just like in reality where parents
that struggle financially tend to spend more time at work than at home, thus they never seem to have
the time or use their precious time to take their children out because it always involves money. We
can understand from both sides of perspective, as the parent and as the child. Many of us as a child
have surely experienced the samething atleast one time in our life when our parents never kept
they're words and seemed too busy to play with us. If it were from a wealthy family the parents
wouldn't have to worry about spending they're money and consume most of their time at work. They
would most likely go out more often with their children and take them to places like Disneyland or
Legoland such as most families today. When Ozu included the scene when right before they were
ready to go out for sightseeing and the patient comes in to see Koichi, shows us that this family is

My Mom Always Commanded By Don 't Take Your Emotions Out...
My mom always commanded, "Don't take your emotions out on food." In her essay "Young
Hunger," M.F.K. Fisher uses three anecdotes to prove her argument about the hunger young people
have for love and attention. On the other hand J.J. Goode through "Single–handed Cooking" writes
about the difficulties that a disability such as having no arms could introduce even with small chores
such as cooking. Food represents struggles in the lives of both M.F.K. Fisher and JJ Goode. Fisher
and Goode are both lacking something that they are trying to fill with food although the result they
obtain is different.
M.F.K. Fisher writes about the detachment she feels from her god parents in the first anecdote that
she introduces. Fisher laments "It was simply that they were old and sedentary and quite out of the
habit of eating amply with younger people; a good thing for them, but pure hell for me" (284).
Fisher eliminates herself from her god parents as she groups them with the old generation and
counts herself as a young person which she defines as a reason for their attitude towards food. Fisher
cannot stand that her god parents are easily wasting food and she is angry that they have forgotten
about hunger while she is starving.
While Fisher displayed emotional struggle with food, Goode's disability forces him to struggle with
food physically. Although Goode enjoys food, he finds himself testing all his abilities as a one
handed person when he prepares a meal. JJ Goode begins the discomfort he

Classroom Reflection
The goal in every math classroom is for students to achieve automaticity, flexibility, and ultimately
accuracy. For each student to excel in the classroom, he or she must first have strong foundational
skills in place. This process was challenging for me, but not because I did not understand the needs
of the student or how to remediate. The challenge for me, was that I was placed in a kindergarten
classroom and struggled to find someone that would provide me with student errors to complete this
assignment. Therefore, my reflection is one of an outsider, who has not had the privilege of working
with the students or seeing the teacher in action in the classroom. My experience consisted of
receiving weekly texts of student work to review, analyze, identify errors, and provide insight to
how I would remediate in the classroom. The inability to know each student and their strengths and
weaknesses limits the effectiveness of my feedback. Therefore, the remediation that I am suggesting
to help develop these students skills is a superficial outlook as to which strategies I would use in the
classroom. At the beginning of this process, the students were working on using arrays to develop
their multiplication skills, as well as, deciphering word problems to solve. When reviewing the
students work, I found that many of them were struggling to understand what the word problem was
asking them and they were unable to correctly use arrays to find the solution to the problem. The

What Is One Issue You Struggle With?
What is one issue you struggle with? One issue I struggled with and continue to struggle with is
helping my mom raise my niece. I think I do not have the time to help raise her. I go to school full–
time, work seven days a week, and attempt to still see my friends. My niece was taking away from
both of her parents because they were seen as unfit, and under the terms I would agree. So at the age
of two she was placed in our care, and she has been with us for five years. Being seven she has
learned that she is the only one without parents, and she questions why. It's hard because how do
you tell a child that her parents lost compete rights to their child, and even harder is why in the five
year span did they not get her back. My mom and I have limited time, but I try to remind myself that
we do spend tons of time with her because our life revolves around her. My mornings consists of
getting her ready for school, and I leave for work. My mom works morning so she can pick her up at
five, and they make dinner. When I get home she is either getting in the shower or in bed, and I tell
her good night. If she has a back to school night, or any school event and I am informed early I will
work out a way to go. I try hard to be apart of her life, and try to show her that even though her
parents aren 't there that my mom and I are.
What do you think is the root or cause of this issue for you? I think the root cause of this issue is not
what I first thought. Even though, my

Reflective Essay On Mental Illness
Faced with the overwhelming stigma that surrounds mental illness, we have spent the semester
learning how to break down doorways into the lives of characters who have struggled with their
mental health. Far too often have these doors been kept bolted shut. As a consequence of public fear
and lack of understanding, the people behind these doors –– individuals with mental illnesses ––
have been given no choice but to struggle in silence. In reading various works throughout the
semester, we have been able to begin to challenge the stigma that surrounds mental illness. Trying to
gain understanding, we have not only opened doorways, but we have begun to construct empathic
tunnels between our own lives and the unfamiliar universes of characters with mental illness.
Reading the novels throughout this class sometimes made me uncomfortable, usually hurt my heart,
and always made me ask questions –– and I think that's the whole point. The novels we read gave
voices to people who felt like they did not have a voice, because they had been silenced for so long.
Refracted through various time periods and genres, the novels we read provided insight into the
progression of mental illness throughout decades, namely into how mental illness is regarded by the
public. Maybe we don't treat people exactly like how the unnamed narrator in "The Yellow
Wallpaper" was treated anymore, and maybe we have a better understanding of mental illness now
than we did during Edna St. Vincent Millay's time,

The Importance Of Education
For generations my family has devoted their lives to actual survival and finding contentment. As
Armenians, we have struggled through genocide and economical devastation. My family's lives
were focused on their livelihood as human beings. Survival was their first priority and thus
education was not really an issue. For my grandparents, it was not even possible to attend school in
any form. When my family chose to come to the US, they gave my brother and me the most
amazing gift, the opportunity to gain a real education. I was given the chance to not have to struggle
with attaining the best education possible. The struggles my family faced helped me realize that
education is a true privilege. My family's lack of education helps me ... Show more content on

At the time my grandparents did not realize how much of an impact education could have on their
families.
Their struggles became even greater when they decided to move to Armenia. Both my mother's and
my father's family realized it was a mistake to move to Armenia when they got there. It was
apparent that Armenia's economy had not recovered from the 1915 Genocide. Everyone had to work
for the family to survive. Furthering their education was not even an issue. It was at this point my
parents got married. They realized that life was going to be difficult in Armenia, no matter what, so
they decided they would move to America. I was six months old when my family got our Visas to
travel to America. We made the long journey from Armenia to Glendale, California, in September of
1990.

I am thankful for the opportunity to grow and achieve through education. My parents taught me that

For example, Buck's' body was really getting beat up the first couple of days in the new Yukon
territory, because Buck's body wasn't used to that condition. On the other hand, my mom when she
first graduated from Emporia State with a teaching career, she really struggled to find a teaching job,
because no school districts were looking for teacher in fact they were letting teachers go. In
comparing, to the early struggles Buck moved from place to place. In The Call of the Wild Buck
transfers from owner to owner and really gets worn out and struggles to do all his work. Similar to
Buck my mom moved from being a teacher to going back to college to get a degree in medical
technology which she started to use time management, because she was doing a lot stuff and didn't
want to get caught up in the moment. Above all, Buck and my mom both got through their struggle
and got rewarded both with happier lives. John Thornton saved Buck from his owners that didn't
have a clue what they were doing and helped him get healthy by letting Buck just rest which is a
thing Buck didn't know that much about, due to the fact he was always on the move. My mom got
through college graduating with a degree in medical technology and got a job right away. My mom
started making money and soon bought her first car and house with my dad. At the end of the day

A Comparison Of Juliet's Inner Struggle In Romeo And Juliet
Juliet's Inner Struggle After learning of Tybalt's death and Romeo's exile, Juliet feels conflicted
which reveals her inner struggle. After their secret marriage, Juliet is patiently waiting for Romeo,
her husband. The Nurse comes in and is very upset. She is crying that someone has died. Juliet
thinks that the Nurse is talking about Romeo. The Nurse later reveals that Tybalt is the one who has
died and Romeo has been banished. Juliet first feels very betrayed by Romeo and curses him. She
later says, "He was not born to shame. /Upon his brow shame is asham'd to sit;/ For 'tis a throne
where honor may be crown'd/ Sole monarch of the universal earth./ Oh, what a beast was I to chide
at him!" (3.2.92–95). Juliet is saying that Romeo does not

Essay on The Inner Struggles of Romeo and Juliet
In the tragedy 'Romeo and Juliet', Shakespeare presents the inner struggles of Romeo and Juliet, the
two protagonists as one of the main themes. This is clearly shown at the end of Act 3 Scene 2 when
Juliet receives the news that Romeo has been banished and Tybalt has been killed. Juliet is
distraught at the conflict of her loyalties. Should she express love for her family or should she
express love for Romeo? By using many different language features, such as oxymorons, paradox,
antithesis and dramatic irony, Shakespeare effectively displays Juliet's conflicting emotions. Later in
the play, Shakespeare uses the betrayal by adults to again show the inner struggles of Romeo and
Juliet. In this passage from Act 3 Scene 2, Juliet waits for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

/ That villain cousin would have kill'd my husband" (3:2). This reflects the internal conflict of Juliet.
Love, in 'Romeo and Juliet' has its own importance in the theme of inner struggle between the two
protagonists, Romeo and Juliet. Juliet is torn between staying loyal to her family and therefore
obeying her parents to marry Paris or staying married to an enemy, Romeo, "My husband lives, that
Tybalt has slain; / And Tybalt's dad, that would have slain my husband: / All this is comfort;
wherefore weep I then?" (3:2). On the other hand, Romeo has his struggles too. He juggles between
the idea of banishment from Verona and not being able to see his beloved Juliet again and that of
death, "Ha, banishment? Be merciful, say 'death'." (3:3). The secret marriage between Romeo and
Juliet is also one of the outcomes due to love. It is because of love that Juliet risked her parents'
disapproval to not marry Paris and Romeo risked the danger of being killed by Capulet's kinsmen to
go to see her. Yet again, this shows the inner struggle of Romeo and Juliet. Adult betrayal of Romeo
and Juliet is one of the key factors that lead to the inner struggles of the two protagonists. When
Capulet and Lady Capulet marries Juliet off to Paris without discussing the matter with Juliet, Juliet
refuses to do so causing Capulet to threaten to disown her if she does not give her consent, "I tell
thee what, get thee to church a Thursday, / Or never after look me in the face." (3:5).

Social Media Persuasive Analysis
Your house is on fire. You have time to grab three things, what would it be? Extreme as this may
sound, most people will include their phone in the list, but why? Our society finds it hard to function
without our smartphone's, As a result its no longer a luxury but a necessity. people in the 21st
century can't go to a restaurant without posting a picture of the food on social media. In Navneet
Alang article "Technology isn't bad for Us, But Facebook might be" (2013) he pervades a very
persuading argument, he finds that social media is controlling our lives . He believes it Causes
people to struggle with finding happiness, it's brainwashing us,and steals away the joyful moments .
Happiness should be simple, but why is it such a struggle? Alang believes that social media plays a
big part of that, "There's something about witnessing the carefully curated fragments of others' lives
that makes it more difficult to maintain happiness in one's own." Alang doesn't go in depth on the
topic but just enough to prove his point. We drown ourselves in pity, Going through other people's
pictures just to compare it to our own. Everyone fears not being loved. Have you ever been asked "
Can you like my profile picture?" countless times I received this question, its as if the more likes

Grief Reflection Paper
I would say there were a few class discussions that I personally connected to, but it is easier to write
about it than talk about it in class for me. Our in–class writing 12 I specifically connected with
number one which states "Our suffering is not unique but is shared by millions and trillions of other
beings, animal as well as human. We find out that we have cancer, and we breathe in the fear, the
disbelief, the pain of all cancer patients and send relief to all. We lose someone dear to us, and it
connects to everyone who is overcome with grief. We lie awake with insomnia, and it links us to
countless others who are lying awake. On the spot, we breathe in our sleeplessness and the
sleeplessness of others, breathe in our anxiety, our agitation, and the same discomfort felt by others.
On the spot, we send out restfulness, peace of mind, contentment" (p. 81). I feel I struggle with this
personally because I am a very closed person and do not like to share my suffering or grief. I have to
face though it isn't my decision because I cannot stop people from suffering the same events that I
suffer in my life, it is all out of our hands and allows us to form much deeper connections without
knowing. I believe I most struggle with my grief in the loss of my father, which I know I am not the
only one to lose my father in the world, but it is hard for me to think that as I write this paper right
now another little girl could be losing her dad. Not only do you share suffering with complete
strangers, but you share it with your closest friends and family the most without thinking about it. In
the book it states, "The word tonglen is Tibetan for "sending and receiving"." This makes me think
of the willingness to share/send our grief and the willingness of others to take/receive it and help us
through it or vice versa for us to take someone's grief/suffering and help them through it even if you
may be suffering as well. If we do not try to face our suffering on our own, I believe it could help
lessen it and possible help you to overcome it by allowing others to help you, but nevertheless if you
overcome this obstacle there will always be another one to face in the future. Another one of our in–

Romeo And Juliet Inner Struggle Research Paper
In life as in literature people have certain struggles. In the novels and short stories we read this year
there are several example of inner struggles, within the characters. The basic type of struggles
known to people is Man Vs Man, Man Vs Nature and Man Vs Himself, otherwise known as inner
struggle. It is when you have within yourself problems, concerns or questions that you must decide.
They often decide to keep it's feeling and emotion to themselves. Like the famous Ghandi once said,

I Am At The Tenth Grade. So Where Should I Start?
Good morning. I wanted to spend this 7–10 minutes talking with you about my growth this year and
why I should go to the tenth grade. So where should i start? academics? struggles? successes?
friends? it 's a tough choice.
So I wanted to start off by saying that this is my first year in the high tech high community and let
me say it has been a very interesting year. I learned that I struggle with multiple things but can
almost always find a way to solve them. From projects and from the beginning of the year till now, I
learned a lot more about myself.
For example to start the year off we worked on a project called makeshift poetry, which was a

Karina, Handy and I had so many drafts of the product until it was perfect. At the end of the project
I hated it yet loved it. I hated the project more towards the end because all the pieces needed to be

extremely hard but that didn't stop me from coming before school and after school to keep working

What Are Your Struggles Essay
Struggles can come from everywhere, but the hardest ones are from within. Our weaknesses, our
flaws are the things we have to struggle with every day. I have grown up with quite a few struggles
like everyone else. My anger, fear of public speaking and trust issues set me apart of other people
and these are the struggles I cope with every day. I just have to learn how to live with those flaws
and sooner or later I will overcome them.
Anger the one thing that runs in my family. I wouldn't say I'm bipolar but I can go from freezing
cold to burning fire real quick. My anger is a struggle because it prevents me from seeing someone
else's point of view also can make me selfish. It makes me think as if I'm always right (which can be
true). My anger sometimes leads me on caring too much, since I put too much time and effort trying

I have trust issues, but when I giving someone everything they toss it away like nothing, something

even fight for me, unlike how I did. The one thing I never have done they did with no hesitation.
This is why I have trust issues, I give my 100% in everything yet that person won't even care. As if
whatever we had was never a thing? People give up too quickly but I give in so easily. Life is unfair,
it seems like I'm giving everyone everything and they're just walking away with it. Sometimes
giving someone a second chance is like giving someone an extra bullet for the gun because they

Sandra Cisneros Report

Professor James Walton
April 27, 2015
"The strength of a woman is not measured by the impact that all her hardships in life have had on
her; but the strength of a woman is measured by the extent of her refusal to allow those hardships to
dictate her and who she becomes." – C. Joybell C. Through the short story, "Only Daughter" by
Sandra Cisneros, one can come to see how true this quote holds to Cisneros and the hardships that
she had been dealt in life. Sandra Cisneros uses this piece to tell a story that many women –
particularly women from minorities – know all too well. The need to earn the respect that a man ...

Her work has come to represent the Mexican and Chicano culture extremely well, and she has
become the voice for this culture full of people that sometimes choose not to speak up. The short
story, "Only Daughter", follows a girl, who is presumed to be Cisneros, as she tries to deal with a
life of solitude and the disapproval of her father. Through being the only daughter in a family of
nine, it is expected that Cisneros would grow up to be a wife, and that was the ultimate goal, but
soon she tells her father of her plans to go to college, and he agrees. Little does she know, that his
mindset is elsewhere, thinking that if she goes to college she will find a good and educated husband,
and not that she would become an educated woman herself. After Cisneros graduates, without a
husband in sight, the father's disapproval creeps back into the picture and one can see Cisneros
struggle to make him proud again. After 10 years of writing professionally, a story written by
Cisneros is translated into Spanish and her father is able to read her work for the first time. The story
is titled "Tepeyac" and it is about the colony in which her father grew up. Finally we see the
approval in Cisneros' father when he asks if they can get more copies for the relatives, this is the
ultimate sign that confirms what Cisneros wanted her entire life, the approval of her father.
Because Cisneros was so desperate

The, The Goddess Of Luck And Fortune
Fortuna, the goddess of luck and fortune, tops the hierarchy due to her vast effect on the fate of
others. She is attributed as giving Theseus, a successful conqueror, his power, causing her to be the
strongest of all. The Queen is also ranks high due to her involvement with the lusty knight's
punishment. By simply asking for rule over his fate, the king relinquishes control to her, showing
her immense influence over others. She utilizes her high position to gain supremacy over others,
showing her boundless strength in manipulating relationships. Wealtheow follows the Queen as she
holds similar power in court albeit she has a certain "place". Wealtheow largely dictates the court's
actions behind the scenes, declaring, "the ranks do as I bid" (1226–1231). Although others expect
her to be queenly and submissive, she uses this act to cause others to fawn over and support her,
allowing her to easily manipulate others. Antigone is fourth due to her resilient agency and obstinate
determination. She combats an equally tenacious Creon, fighting for the burial of both of her
brothers. Refusing to follow the declarations of man over the gods, she buries her brother alone
against the king's decrees showing her unshakable agency. Grendel's mother harbors vast physical
power, allowing her to battle Beowulf, renowned for his unwavering strength. Grendel's mother is
tactical and acute when dealing with her son's slayer, signifying mental prowess as

Carolyn Kizer's Bitch: Closing the Doors on the Past Essay
The poem "Bitch" by Carolyn Kizer, published in 1984, is one that truly grasps the reader's
attention, beginning with the title itself. The overall tone of this poem intertwines the feelings of
sadness and anger and also reveals quite a bit about the speaker's past. The speaker is referring to
her inner self as the "bitch" and her hurt condition is clearly present throughout the poem. She uses
words such as "bark, growling, slobbers and whimper" to drive this meaning across to the reader. It
is in the speaker's own representation of her inner self as a "bitch," one that not only "bark[s]
hysterically," but also may "whimper," and even "cringe". The speaker is easily inclined to
remember past memories from the relationship and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In line 7 ("He isn't an enemy now") the speaker is telling herself that she should not be dwelling on
the past because her ex can't hurt her anymore. The "bitch" seems to be doing fine in controlling her
emotions until line 9 when her ex–lover asks her: ""How are the children? They must be growing
up." An immediate change of tone occurs here. There is an internal struggle going on between her
heart and her mind. The speaker's mind is telling her to be polite to her ex, forget the past and move
on. The bitch's heart, on the other hand, is keeping her from moving on and causing her to struggle
with feelings of desire. This is clear, for example, in lines 10–13: "At a kind word from him...
Down, girl! Keep your distance." The speaker knows that if she accidentally gets to close to this ex–
lover by having feelings again, she will only end up getting hurt. Kind words and gestures can often
be deceiving and I have learned that unfortunately charming people are dangerous. I have been hurt
numerous times by such personalities by only looking at their kind side and ignoring other flaws.
The bitch is warning herself to not get caught up in this trap of feelings again.
Quite a bit of information about the past is exposed in (lines 17–21): "... She is basically loyal...
Until he was ready to play." This means that the speaker was always loyal and kind to her lover, but
he was bored with her and still thought that she was not good enough. The

The Inner Struggle For Identity In Kate Chopin's The...
Kate Chopin's novel, The Awakening, introduces a "solitary soul" who fights for her identity in a
society where statuses are defined. Although societal influences limit the boundary for her feminine
position, Edna's inner struggle for freedom prompts her actions to appear impulsively sporadic and
self–destructive in the midst of domesticity. Once she samples the thrill and fear created by the
ocean's waves, Edna betrays her family, her friends, and her romances and embarks on an
uncompromisingly self–involved journey. She relinquishes her designated responsibilities and
relationships and hunts for liberty and most importantly, a self –identity. When these endeavors fail,
Edna commits suicide indicating her defeat against the societal norms. ... Show more content on

The first glimpse of Edna is when Mr. Pontellier comments on her sunburned figure and looks at her
"as one looks at a valuable piece of personal property which has suffered some damage" (Chopin 3).
Edna seeks to defy this dogma and become her own person rather than a possession. The once
proper Lady Pontellier then, becomes Edna. She abandons the habitual visits to people whom Mr.
Pontellier deems necessary for business and begins to "do as she liked and to feel as she like"
(Chopin 54). She appeals to her rebellious nature to fill a void and to redefine her freedom. Through
this process, the protagonist is met with discouraging comments that make her increasingly insolent.
When Madame Reisz expresses her surprise to Edna's new hobby, Edna becomes defensive, "[...] do
you think I could not become an artist?" (Chopin 61). Then when Mr. Pontellier is away, Edna
moves out of her Pontellier Mansion and searches for the uncertainties in life as a child exploring a
new privilege. More importantly, the protagonist is attempting to display a rebellion despite the
regulations. As times passes, she realizes, that despite all the efforts, she cannot advance her liberty
and becomes increasingly restless. Edna continues to make impulsive decisions originating from
narcissism, the very factor that essentially destroys

The Universal Inner Struggle Revealed in Hamlet Essay
The Universal Inner Struggle Revealed in Hamlet
Life is defined by the struggles it presents us. Without these constant tests of our fortitude, we would
never grow as mature human beings. This is the one common denominator linking all people, past,
present, and future. It is no mystery why our literature and art reflect this characteristic. The creation
of a character is a mirror–image of a human. Shakespeare perfectly understood this truth. He crafted
Hamlet, Claudius, Polonius, and his many other characters so that they would reflect life and in this
way, entertain and educate his audience. Shakespeare's outright goal may have been to simply make
money, but along the way, he sculpted beautiful characters filled with ... Show more content on

After all of Hamlet's scheming, planning, and thinking, he gets his proof by simply being in the right
place, at the right time. The time for "words, words, words" is over; action is necessary. But again,
Hamlet falters. Recognizing the effects of prayer, Hamlet seethes: "A villain kills my father, and for
that I, his sole son, do this same villain send to heaven" (3.3.76–78). The prince is again in a bind.
Allowing the reader access to his thoughts makes Hamlet an instantly sympathic character, and
quenches the voyeuristic appetite of the reader. Hamlet's struggle is not over, and the reader wonders
if he will ever meet an agreeable fate.
As Hamlet contends with his internal struggle, he also wrestles with his desire to make his situation
better. Like the internal struggle, this need to play the hero is something that the audience can
identify with. The only difference is that not everyone has the heart to do it. Accepting the charge
from the Ghost, Hamlet swears, "O cursed spite, that ever I was born to set it right!" (2.2.188–89). A
father and a king have been slain. And the king's "most seeming virtuous queen" (1.5.46) has
married her husband's brother. Against these great obstacles, Hamlet takes on the noble quest of
revenging his father. First, he must set things right with his mother. Vowing to "speak daggers to her,
but use none" (3.2.374), the

Analysis Of Enrique 's Journey ' The Unforgettable Quest...
– Sharmili Lakshmanan
Introduction:
Enrique's Journey recounts the unforgettable quest of a Honduran boy looking for his mother, eleven
years after she is forced to leave her starving family to find work in the United States. Braving
unimaginable peril, often clinging to the sides and tops of freight trains, Enrique travels through
hostile worlds full of thugs, bandits, and corrupt cops. But he pushes forward, relying on his
courage, hope, and the kindness of strangers. He attempts the dangerous journey eight times before
he succeeds. During his first seven attempts, he is severely beaten, robbed, and humiliated.
However, he never gives up. The struggle that Enrique and other immigrant make to reach el norte is
harder than anyone can expect.
Discussion:
To travel north, Enrique, like other migrants, rides the tops of freight trains, a most dangerous
endeavor. The dangers of the trains are many that include both physical and emotional struggles. Not
only are the trains themselves dangerous, but migrants who travel on them must also overcome
many difficulties like migrants can get pulled under the wheels while boarding the moving train,
which can cause them to death. Others fall off the train while it is in motion. Gangs rule the train
tops, robbing, beating, killing, and raping as they please. Both female and male migrants are in
continual danger of rape. Migrants suffer from starvation and dehydration, and are unable to go to
the bathroom

Education : How My Father Influenced My Education
How my Father influenced my Education.
"If you are not willing to learn, no one can help you. If you are determined to learn no one can stop
you."
All my life I have struggled with one specific topic through and through again, this topic I am
talking about it mathematics. Growing up math had always been a difficult topic for me. I felt that I
knew nothing about what I was learning, and worst of all the teachers would just pass me. By doing
this it made the topic in general more challenging and ten times harder to catch up.
When I would finally catch up it would be because I have "memorized" the type of problem and
would take the test. Doing this I really had no true understanding of the topic and would therefore
later forget the information and the steps I took in order to solve the problem.
During my first years in public school, I felt that if you got it you got it, and if you didn't you didn't.
I was always afraid to ask questions because I felt like I would look dumb in front of the rest of my
classmates. It just seemed like everyone else got it except for me.
This was a pretty troublesome time for me. I felt alone and desolate from everyone else in my class.
Thankfully, I had the opportunity to be given a great teacher and role model in my life who cared
not only about me, but my education as well.
This very special person in my life, is my father. Thankfully I had a person who was very intelligent
and had a lot of knowledge when it came to mathematics. Not

I have always had family, friends, and others downing and doubting me, telling me I'll never amount

I Am A Professional Athlete
I was sixteen years old when I was asked the question every High School student has to eventually
answer. Where do you think you'll be ten years from now? My answer was always, Playing
professional soccer in Europe. It seems like a big cliché when a high school student responds with
wanting to be a professional athlete. But it was my passion, I worked very hard at it and I was good
at it. So it only made sense to go with my heart. I knew to be a professional soccer player was what I
wanted and I never hesitated to say it. Until I was asked," Well, what if that doesn't work out. Then
what will you do?" Now, I know it wasn't wrong for my teacher to ask that question but it did
change the way I thought about my life and my future. I'll admit I went to a Technical High School,
so it wasn't the best school to get scouted out of for any sport, no matter how great my soccer career
was at that school. Now I am Eighteen years old and graduating high school and my next stop is

stepping stone to my future, as I was getting ready to have try outs with one of the biggest Soccer
teams in Portugal. At least that's what I was told was going to happen. After everything was said and
done, my try outs were with a third division team and not a top team in the country. This meant I

The Narrow Road To The Deep North And The Railway Man Essay
Richard Flanagan's novel The Narrow Road to the Deep North and Jonathan Teplitzky's film The
Railway Man are two different texts that tell a similar tale on their respective male protagonist's
experiences of the Thai–Burma railway as POWs. The authors of the texts have used the
experiences from the POW camp to provide context to then explore different variations on the idea
of conflict. Flanagan's Dorrigo Evans experiences moral conflict throughout the novel, first as he is
pushed into a leadership role and then later as he commits various acts of adultery. By contrast, the
character Eric Lomax does not struggle with a sense of morality but rather is trapped in the war and
struggles to separate past from present.

Patti's exclusion demonstrates the modern ideas Eric missed due to his involvement in the war and
thus provide context as to why Eric found it incredibly difficult to move from his past into an
unrecognisably modern present. Comparably, Dorrigo is also seen to struggle to leave the war
behind him although this is more due to his reluctance to return to a life of sedentary with Ella rather
than live a more controversial life with Amy.
"All that came later seemed to condone the sense of meaningless he was to find in civilian life...her
[Ella's] lips seemed disappointing... he could not stop think of Amy." (Flanagan, Richard)
Ella and Amy represent for Dorrigo his continual moral struggle between right and wrong. Ella is a
convenient and socially acceptable choice for Dorrigo to make and yet he remains unattracted to her
as he is unable to let go of Amy. Amy meanwhile represents the morally wrong choice, she is the
wife of his uncle and yet he still is unable to stop loving her. Ultimately, he chooses to stay with Ella
as she is the 'good' choice, this choice likely coming from his earlier conflict during the war as he
struggled with his sense of morality.

himself as a weak man... whom the thousand

Struggles Of The Clay By Isabel Allende
Struggles in the Clay Isabel Allende is the author of the story "And of Clay Are We Created."
Allende wrote a story, based on a real event, about three main characters. These characters are each
in different positions in the story. In their respective position each carry something with them. They
each carry a struggle and each struggle builds off the last. Allende reveals three different struggles,
each revealed in correlation with the struggle before it, starting with Azucena's given struggle, Rolf's
struggle revealed through A's, and the narrator's revealed because of Rolf's continued struggle. The
first and most apparent struggle belongs to Azucena. Her struggle is caused by a real natural disaster
that took place. A landslide of water and earth sweeps over Azucena's home in an attempt to
swallow it whole. Azucena is one of those trapped and waiting for rescue from those who have come
to help. She was found "protruding from the mudpit, eyes wide open, calling soundlessly" (Allende
355). Why is her struggle so difficult? She is trapped, with her rescuers unable to help her. Despite
all those around trying to help, they just don't have the proper equipment and manpower. Not only
that, she also has all this attention on her setting her up to be the symbol of the disaster. She has lost
much not only struggling outside, but also in. She is trapped in mud and has had her family die
around her. To her, the struggle to survive seems futile, and in the end it is. The next

Salvage The Bones And Up From Slavery
There have been a lot of issues throughout history that concerns African Americans. They had issues
with family, they had their strength and weakness, and they also struggled a lot from back in the day.
"Salvage the Bones" and "Up from Slavery" provides examples from all of those themes. Family is
one of the main themes in Salvage the Bones. The story reflects on how family helped them get
through a lot. Up from slavery also tells us about family. It's similar to Salvage the Bones, but in a
different perspective. Everyone would agree that African Americans had to struggle more than the
white people, and "Up from Slavery" and "Salvage the Bones provide great context of that. African
Americans also had their strength and weakness. African Americans have had their strength and

The Bottom Line By Anne Lamott
"The bottom line is that I like my first drafts to be blind, unconscious, messy efforts; that is what
gets me the best material" (Egan). Egan says that when writing, she just lets her words flow
regardless of how it may turn out, if it sounds bad, or whether it contains multiple mistakes or
grammatical errors. For Egan, getting the work done is all that matters first. Once she gets the first
draft done, then she worries about critiques. The same attitude that Egan portrays in her quote is
similar to the attitude that Anne Lamott holds in her article Shifty First Drafts. Anne Lamott
explicates that like all writers, she also finds it a challenge at times to generate her first writing
drafts. In her article she looks to show her audience–writers–that it's okay to struggle with first
drafts because "very few writers really know what they are doing until they've don't it". Overall,
Lamott just wants writers to know that "almost all good writing begins with terrible first efforts", so
regardless of the horrible results that may surface from the first draft, writers just need to focus on
just getting any and all ideas down on paper. Connecting with her audience, Lamott uses heartfelt
personal examples and experiences alongside ethos; which aids her in offering advice via everyday
word choice that is placed in a sequential order.
Throughout her work, Lamott utilizes everyday diction. She uses words such as we and you. By
using the words "we" and "you" Lamott makes her article

Generally, the thesis contained "No Greater Love", its author, major problems, plot, analyzing of

Steel's one of her two novels about Titanic where life becomes heavy burden for heroines caused by

Why I Didn 't Treat Women
There was a time in my life where I didn 't treat women in the way they should have been treated. I
use to play games with their feelings and didn 't care if they got hurt because I was only looking out
for myself. The reason I was like this was because I 've seen my older siblings get their heart
broken, so I made up in my mind that I would not have that happen to me. So whenever I would
date a young lady I would always have someone I was talking to on the side but I would lie to the
person I was with saying that I wasn 't seeing no one but them. One instance I was dating this girl
who I grew to like very much to the point where I wasn 't talking to no one but her. This was the
very first time in my life where I had really opened up to a girl and experienced what it was like to
be in love. Then one day I was out with my cousin and saw my girlfriend all hugged up on another
guy. I was very hurt and humiliated because my cousin was there to witness me get my heart broken.
That moment in my life taught me how those other young ladies who really liked me felt when I was
treating them in that manner. I would say that I 'm not the same person that I was a year ago. I 'm
different because I no longer have a young boy 's mindset but yet I 'm growing daily and learning
from the mistakes I 've made in the past. Five years ago I was different because I was looking for
ways to better myself as a person. Ten years ago I was very big on trying to the very best cymbal

Is Adversity Is A Blessing?
Adversity Is A Blessing Each person's success and happiness depends largely on his or her responses
to the difficulties of life. When some people face adversity, they complain and become bitter. They
ask questions like "Why does this have to happen to me? Why do I have to suffer this now? What
have I done to deserve this?" But these questions have the power to dominate their thoughts. Such
questions can overtake their vision, absorb their energy, and deprive them of the experiences they
learn. Rather than responding in this way, people should consider asking questions such as, "What
am I to do? What am I to learn from this experience? What am I to change? Whom am I to help?
How can I remember my many blessings in times of trial?" Adversity is inevitable, but difficulties or
misfortunes don't have to keep you from achieving your intended goals and finding the happiness
you seek in business and in life. It's how you overcome these adversities can make all the difference.

needs and wants. It is easy for a parent to get judged in society comparing to a child because parents
are role models for children's. Even when a child has been mistreated by her/his parent, it is easy for
the child to forgive their parents. The reason behind that situation would be a parent's unconditional
love that a child sees, despite what he/she has been through. In the book The Glass Castle by
Jeannette Walls, she portraits a situation like that where the character spends her childhood
memories with her father. Even though Jeannette's father Rex Walls was an irresponsible father and
failed to protect his children, Jeannette still loved her father dearly. During Christmas Jeannette's
father Rex would give his kids stars as a present. Jeannette describes Rex as an intelligent, loving
and smart father that she admired a lot. The term father reflected Jeannette's overall admiration for
her father because her father is brave enough to face the cold. As the author quotes, 'the cold never
bothered him" (39). In other words, Rex Walls has the potential to make Jeannette feel special.
Specifically, Jeannette describes her father in a very simple way that explains the entry experience
and structure of the story. In the book Jeannette repeats that "Dad said" several

Final Exam Essay
Writing is one of the most difficult subjects I have taken on this spring semester. Being able to
identify the different types of essays as well as putting my skills together to write them is the most
difficult to me. Although I have learned from the negative and positive feedback, I still feel there is a
huge area that needs improvement. Starting this out I didn't quite know what to expect or what level
my writing skills were at. I will most definitely be able to use what I've learned for my future
education as well as my future career. Intellectually I know I had a smart, compassionate instructor
that just wanted to absolute best for me in this aspect.
The beginning of my struggles with writing was back in seventh grade, I remember staying after
school 3 out of 5 days a week for tutorials. I struggled with it all the way until my junior year in
high school whenever I came across my English teacher who was once a college professor. It was a
daily struggle and even then I remember staying after school 3 out of the 5 days for tutorials. After
seeing my skills improve every day, I knew all I needed was extra coaching and practice. If I would
have continued taking English courses throughout my education I feel ... Show more content on

Getting into RN school is one of my dreams and goals I have held for years. I understand research
papers as well as English are a big part of getting your bachelor's degree. Not only will I be able to
identify the types of essays, but also I will be able to research true information verses false. I never
knew how to tell what information was true and false on different websites. Knowing there are
several resources available to me is what makes it even better. Taking this feedback and applying it
towards my education from here on out can benefit me in ways most people wouldn't even believe. I
will be able to sufficiently write my research paper on a college

Identity Crisis and Resolution in The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian
It is natural for every person that he finds himself in a conflicting situation where he thinks that he
has no identity. In such a situation of crisis, he asserts himself through different means though it may
be a bitter truth or he himself gets insult in response. Arnold in The Absolute True Diary of a Part
Time Indian faces the same situation, but he does not leave the truth. Whatever he has encountered
in rez or at Reardan, he has plainly told it in a very simple language that it seems touching obscenity
and crossing the limits of decency. That is why the novel faced bans in different states after it was
published. However, the struggle Arnold waged in order to make himself recognized is heroic one
despite realization that he belongs to the underdogs and there is no hope. His struggle is rather a
hope against hope, yet he knew that "life is a constant struggle between being an individual and
being a member of the community" (132) in which case he belonged to Indians, a Sokane
Community in which he was raised. When the novel opens, he starts with his mental disabilities how
he suffered from "cerebral spinal fluid" (2). Despite suffering these diseases, having developed
several disabilities, acute consciousness of his own deformed body, unsupportive background,
poverty, Indian legacy of stubborn and dullard nature, he not only becomes truthful but also

Reflective Essay About Strength

  • 1. Reflective Essay About Strength I believe one must struggle to stumble across their strength. In order to discover strength, one must fail, and overcome that failure to discover their strength. Strength is something that I have valued and built within my lifetime. I am extremely family orientated and I have parents that embolden my siblings and I to take on challenges on our own. Encouraging us to obtain jobs, paying for necessities, making our own mistakes and developing our own problem solving skills was essential in their parenting. They wanted us to procure responsibility and prepare for the real world. My parents wanted me to grow as a strong individual which is exactly why they let me make mistakes and solve them on my own. Although, I have struggled with a number of obstacles and dealt with them on my own, something that affected me in a great way and was difficult for me to deal with was watching my mom struggle, herself. My mom has always battled mental illnesses. I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She often gets frustrated and stressed owing to the countless doctor appointments she continues to have. Due to the oxygen loss to her brain, she struggles to remember just about anything. My house is covered in sticky notes with to do lists. These sticky notes to me represent strength. They remind me how strong my family was required to be. I will continue to take on life and overcome obstacles with this experience. I will continue to support my mom as she struggles, and remind her how strong she is. Without this struggle, I would not have been able to see how strong I truly can be. I had to have the strength to understand I cannot control all events, but I can have the strength to not be reduced by them. I am extremely grateful my mother was able to teach me I can find strength every time I fall, and I can take on any obstacle that comes in my way. I would not be this strong, if I had an easy past. • 3. Human Struggle In The Tokyo Story In Ozu's film, the Tokyo Story, has many scenes that define the human struggle, such as the struggle to make a living, aging and death of loved ones, and the way children eventually fall apart from their parents when they get older. The one human struggle from Ozu's film that influenced the most empathy is the inevitable truth of life that the struggle for survival in society eventually drifts individuals apart such as parents and they're children when they begin to live independently and become to take care for only themselves because of their daily busy lives. From this film, Ozu introduces a few scenes to compare the similarities of different generations in the relationship between children and parents. The first scene that begins this comparison is when Koichi's son, Minoru, had high hopes of going sightseeing with his parents and grandparents, but when suddenly Koichi had to go see his sick patient and the plans got cancelled, Minoru was very disappointed and angry with his parents because he mentions that they always say they will go next time, but they never seem to keep their words. Ozu includes this scene to show how often parents never seem to keep their promises with their children because they're constantly busy with their own things and not have enough free time to spend time with them. It's just like in reality where parents that struggle financially tend to spend more time at work than at home, thus they never seem to have the time or use their precious time to take their children out because it always involves money. We can understand from both sides of perspective, as the parent and as the child. Many of us as a child have surely experienced the samething atleast one time in our life when our parents never kept they're words and seemed too busy to play with us. If it were from a wealthy family the parents wouldn't have to worry about spending they're money and consume most of their time at work. They would most likely go out more often with their children and take them to places like Disneyland or Legoland such as most families today. When Ozu included the scene when right before they were ready to go out for sightseeing and the patient comes in to see Koichi, shows us that this family is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. My Mom Always Commanded By Don 't Take Your Emotions Out... My mom always commanded, "Don't take your emotions out on food." In her essay "Young Hunger," M.F.K. Fisher uses three anecdotes to prove her argument about the hunger young people have for love and attention. On the other hand J.J. Goode through "Single–handed Cooking" writes about the difficulties that a disability such as having no arms could introduce even with small chores such as cooking. Food represents struggles in the lives of both M.F.K. Fisher and JJ Goode. Fisher and Goode are both lacking something that they are trying to fill with food although the result they obtain is different. M.F.K. Fisher writes about the detachment she feels from her god parents in the first anecdote that she introduces. Fisher laments "It was simply that they were old and sedentary and quite out of the habit of eating amply with younger people; a good thing for them, but pure hell for me" (284). Fisher eliminates herself from her god parents as she groups them with the old generation and counts herself as a young person which she defines as a reason for their attitude towards food. Fisher cannot stand that her god parents are easily wasting food and she is angry that they have forgotten about hunger while she is starving. While Fisher displayed emotional struggle with food, Goode's disability forces him to struggle with food physically. Although Goode enjoys food, he finds himself testing all his abilities as a one handed person when he prepares a meal. JJ Goode begins the discomfort he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Classroom Reflection The goal in every math classroom is for students to achieve automaticity, flexibility, and ultimately accuracy. For each student to excel in the classroom, he or she must first have strong foundational skills in place. This process was challenging for me, but not because I did not understand the needs of the student or how to remediate. The challenge for me, was that I was placed in a kindergarten classroom and struggled to find someone that would provide me with student errors to complete this assignment. Therefore, my reflection is one of an outsider, who has not had the privilege of working with the students or seeing the teacher in action in the classroom. My experience consisted of receiving weekly texts of student work to review, analyze, identify errors, and provide insight to how I would remediate in the classroom. The inability to know each student and their strengths and weaknesses limits the effectiveness of my feedback. Therefore, the remediation that I am suggesting to help develop these students skills is a superficial outlook as to which strategies I would use in the classroom. At the beginning of this process, the students were working on using arrays to develop their multiplication skills, as well as, deciphering word problems to solve. When reviewing the students work, I found that many of them were struggling to understand what the word problem was asking them and they were unable to correctly use arrays to find the solution to the problem. I think I do not have the time to help raise her. I go to school full– time, work seven days a week, and attempt to still see my friends. My niece was taking away from both of her parents because they were seen as unfit, and under the terms I would agree. So at the age of two she was placed in our care, and she has been with us for five years. Being seven she has learned that she is the only one without parents, and she questions why. It's hard because how do you tell a child that her parents lost compete rights to their child, and even harder is why in the five year span did they not get her back. My mom and I have limited time, but I try to remind myself that we do spend tons of time with her because our life revolves around her. My mornings consists of getting her ready for school, and I leave for work. My mom works morning so she can pick her up at five, and they make dinner. When I get home she is either getting in the shower or in bed, and I tell her good night. If she has a back to school night, or any school event and I am informed early I will work out a way to go. I try hard to be apart of her life, and try to show her that even though her parents aren 't there that my mom and I are. What do you think is the root or cause of this issue for you? • 11. Reflective Essay On Mental Illness Faced with the overwhelming stigma that surrounds mental illness, we have spent the semester learning how to break down doorways into the lives of characters who have struggled with their mental health. Far too often have these doors been kept bolted shut. As a consequence of public fear and lack of understanding, the people behind these doors –– individuals with mental illnesses –– have been given no choice but to struggle in silence. In reading various works throughout the semester, we have been able to begin to challenge the stigma that surrounds mental illness. Trying to gain understanding, we have not only opened doorways, but we have begun to construct empathic tunnels between our own lives and the unfamiliar universes of characters with mental illness. Reading the novels throughout this class sometimes made me uncomfortable, usually hurt my heart, and always made me ask questions –– and I think that's the whole point. The novels we read gave voices to people who felt like they did not have a voice, because they had been silenced for so long. Refracted through various time periods and genres, the novels we read provided insight into the progression of mental illness throughout decades, namely into how mental illness is regarded by the public. Maybe we don't treat people exactly like how the unnamed narrator in "The Yellow Wallpaper" was treated anymore, and maybe we have a better understanding of mental illness now than we did during Edna St. Vincent Millay's time, ... As Armenians, we have struggled through genocide and economical devastation. My family's lives were focused on their livelihood as human beings. Survival was their first priority and thus education was not really an issue. For my grandparents, it was not even possible to attend school in any form. When my family chose to come to the US, they gave my brother and me the most amazing gift, the opportunity to gain a real education. I was given the chance to not have to struggle with attaining the best education possible. The struggles my family faced helped me realize that education is a true privilege. Their struggles became even greater when they decided to move to Armenia. Both my mother's and my father's family realized it was a mistake to move to Armenia when they got there. It was apparent that Armenia's economy had not recovered from the 1915 Genocide. Everyone had to work for the family to survive. Furthering their education was not even an issue. It was at this point my parents got married. They realized that life was going to be difficult in Armenia, no matter what, so they decided they would move to America. • 19. Essay on The Inner Struggles of Romeo and Juliet In the tragedy 'Romeo and Juliet', Shakespeare presents the inner struggles of Romeo and Juliet, the two protagonists as one of the main themes. This is clearly shown at the end of Act 3 Scene 2 when Juliet receives the news that Romeo has been banished and Tybalt has been killed. Juliet is distraught at the conflict of her loyalties. Should she express love for her family or should she express love for Romeo? By using many different language features, such as oxymorons, paradox, antithesis and dramatic irony, Shakespeare effectively displays Juliet's conflicting emotions. Later in the play, Shakespeare uses the betrayal by adults to again show the inner struggles of Romeo and Juliet. In this passage from Act 3 Scene 2, Juliet waits for ... Love, in 'Romeo and Juliet' has its own importance in the theme of inner struggle between the two protagonists, Romeo and Juliet. Juliet is torn between staying loyal to her family and therefore obeying her parents to marry Paris or staying married to an enemy, Romeo, "My husband lives, that Tybalt has slain; / And Tybalt's dad, that would have slain my husband: / All this is comfort; wherefore weep I then?" (3:2). On the other hand, Romeo has his struggles too. He juggles between the idea of banishment from Verona and not being able to see his beloved Juliet again and that of death, "Ha, banishment? Be merciful, say 'death'." (3:3). The secret marriage between Romeo and Juliet is also one of the outcomes due to love. It is because of love that Juliet risked her parents' disapproval to not marry Paris and Romeo risked the danger of being killed by Capulet's kinsmen to go to see her. Yet again, this shows the inner struggle of Romeo and Juliet. Adult betrayal of Romeo and Juliet is one of the key factors that lead to the inner struggles of the two protagonists. When Capulet and Lady Capulet marries Juliet off to Paris without discussing the matter with Juliet, Juliet refuses to do so causing Capulet to threaten to disown her if she does not give her consent, "I tell thee what, get thee to church a Thursday, / Or never after look me in the face." Extreme as this may sound, most people will include their phone in the list, but why? Our society finds it hard to function without our smartphone's, As a result its no longer a luxury but a necessity. people in the 21st century can't go to a restaurant without posting a picture of the food on social media. In Navneet Alang article "Technology isn't bad for Us, But Facebook might be" (2013) he pervades a very persuading argument, he finds that social media is controlling our lives . He believes it Causes people to struggle with finding happiness, it's brainwashing us,and steals away the joyful moments . Happiness should be simple, but why is it such a struggle? Alang believes that social media plays a big part of that, "There's something about witnessing the carefully curated fragments of others' lives that makes it more difficult to maintain happiness in one's own." Alang doesn't go in depth on the topic but just enough to prove his point. We drown ourselves in pity, Going through other people's pictures just to compare it to our own. Everyone fears not being loved. • 23. Grief Reflection Paper I would say there were a few class discussions that I personally connected to, but it is easier to write about it than talk about it in class for me. Our in–class writing 12 I specifically connected with number one which states "Our suffering is not unique but is shared by millions and trillions of other beings, animal as well as human. We find out that we have cancer, and we breathe in the fear, the disbelief, the pain of all cancer patients and send relief to all. We lose someone dear to us, and it connects to everyone who is overcome with grief. We lie awake with insomnia, and it links us to countless others who are lying awake. On the spot, we breathe in our sleeplessness and the sleeplessness of others, breathe in our anxiety, our agitation, and the same discomfort felt by others. On the spot, we send out restfulness, peace of mind, contentment" (p. 81). I feel I struggle with this personally because I am a very closed person and do not like to share my suffering or grief. I have to face though it isn't my decision because I cannot stop people from suffering the same events that I suffer in my life, it is all out of our hands and allows us to form much deeper connections without knowing. I believe I most struggle with my grief in the loss of my father, which I know I am not the only one to lose my father in the world, but it is hard for me to think that as I write this paper right now another little girl could be losing her dad. Not only do you share suffering with complete strangers, but you share it with your closest friends and family the most without thinking about it. In the book it states, "The word tonglen is Tibetan for "sending and receiving"." This makes me think of the willingness to share/send our grief and the willingness of others to take/receive it and help us through it or vice versa for us to take someone's grief/suffering and help them through it even if you may be suffering as well. If we do not try to face our suffering on our own, I believe it could help lessen it and possible help you to overcome it by allowing others to help you, but nevertheless if you overcome this obstacle there will always be another one to face in the future. So where should i start? academics? struggles? successes? friends? it 's a tough choice. So I wanted to start off by saying that this is my first year in the high tech high community and let me say it has been a very interesting year. I learned that I struggle with multiple things but can almost always find a way to solve them. From projects and from the beginning of the year till now, I learned a lot more about myself. At the end of the project I hated it yet loved it. I hated the project more towards the end because all the pieces needed to be spaced out correctly in accordance the ring, it all revolved around the ring. While working on the make shift poetry project I found out that I stress very easily and can make the most silliest mistakes under pressure. I found out that I'm very good with due dates, turning everything on time was extremely hard but that didn't stop me from coming before school and after school to keep working on the project. The project would have been way more difficult though if Karina and Handy weren 't there to help. The reason I liked this project so much was because of the thrill I got after having a working mechanism completed, it was sadly one of the happiest days of my life. I have grown up with quite a few struggles like everyone else. My anger, fear of public speaking and trust issues set me apart of other people and these are the struggles I cope with every day. I just have to learn how to live with those flaws and sooner or later I will overcome them. Anger the one thing that runs in my family. I wouldn't say I'm bipolar but I can go from freezing cold to burning fire real quick. My anger is a struggle because it prevents me from seeing someone else's point of view also can make me selfish. They won't even fight for me, unlike how I did. The one thing I never have done they did with no hesitation. This is why I have trust issues, I give my 100% in everything yet that person won't even care. As if whatever we had was never a thing? People give up too quickly but I give in so easily. Life is unfair, it seems like I'm giving everyone everything and they're just walking away with it.

Through being the only daughter in a family of nine, it is expected that Cisneros would grow up to be a wife, and that was the ultimate goal, but soon she tells her father of her plans to go to college, and he agrees. Little does she know, that his mindset is elsewhere, thinking that if she goes to college she will find a good and educated husband, and not that she would become an educated woman herself. Carolyn Kizer's Bitch: Closing the Doors on the Past Essay The poem "Bitch" by Carolyn Kizer, published in 1984, is one that truly grasps the reader's attention, beginning with the title itself. The overall tone of this poem intertwines the feelings of sadness and anger and also reveals quite a bit about the speaker's past. The speaker is referring to her inner self as the "bitch" and her hurt condition is clearly present throughout the poem. She uses words such as "bark, growling, slobbers and whimper" to drive this meaning across to the reader. It is in the speaker's own representation of her inner self as a "bitch," one that not only "bark[s] hysterically," but also may "whimper," and even "cringe". The "bitch" seems to be doing fine in controlling her emotions until line 9 when her ex–lover asks her: ""How are the children? They must be growing up." An immediate change of tone occurs here. There is an internal struggle going on between her heart and her mind. The speaker's mind is telling her to be polite to her ex, forget the past and move on. The bitch's heart, on the other hand, is keeping her from moving on and causing her to struggle with feelings of desire. This is clear, for example, in lines 10–13: "At a kind word from him... Down, girl! Keep your distance." The speaker knows that if she accidentally gets to close to this ex– lover by having feelings again, she will only end up getting hurt. Kind words and gestures can often be deceiving and I have learned that unfortunately charming people are dangerous. I have been hurt numerous times by such personalities by only looking at their kind side and ignoring other flaws. The bitch is warning herself to not get caught up in this trap of feelings again. Quite a bit of information about the past is exposed in (lines 17–21): "... She is basically loyal... Until he was ready to play." This means that the speaker was always loyal and kind to her lover, but he was bored with her and still thought that she was not good enough. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Without these constant tests of our fortitude, we would never grow as mature human beings. This is the one common denominator linking all people, past, present, and future. It is no mystery why our literature and art reflect this characteristic. The creation of a character is a mirror–image of a human. Shakespeare perfectly understood this truth. The prince is again in a bind. Allowing the reader access to his thoughts makes Hamlet an instantly sympathic character, and quenches the voyeuristic appetite of the reader. Hamlet's struggle is not over, and the reader wonders if he will ever meet an agreeable fate. Doing this I really had no true understanding of the topic and would therefore later forget the information and the steps I took in order to solve the problem. During my first years in public school, I felt that if you got it you got it, and if you didn't you didn't. I was always afraid to ask questions because I felt like I would look dumb in front of the rest of my classmates. It just seemed like everyone else got it except for me. This was a pretty troublesome time for me. I felt alone and desolate from everyone else in my class. Thankfully, I had the opportunity to be given a great teacher and role model in my life who cared not only about me, but my education as well. This very special person in my life, is my father. Not having the support and extra push from the ones that you think love and care for you really take a toll on you in every aspect of life and emotion. But dwelling will hold you back. Yes I have failed myself by not following through with things I have started but I had my reasoning–'s. I taught myself to take the positive and negative criticism and shift what you can use out and just toss the unnecessary shit aside and keep moving forward. If you sit and ponder on why no wants to see you succeed and why they strive to see you fail, it will eat you alive and stop you from doing what it is that you want to do. It will disable you to be motivated and crush your dreams and dedication. Never let someone reserve space in your mind to the point it stops your life. If they hate they hate. Stand up, smile and strive for the top and don't stop until you've reached it. Prove that you can be who you want to be and that they can't stop your shine. • 54. I Am A Professional Athlete I was sixteen years old when I was asked the question every High School student has to eventually answer. Where do you think you'll be ten years from now? My answer was always, Playing professional soccer in Europe. It seems like a big cliché when a high school student responds with wanting to be a professional athlete. But it was my passion, I worked very hard at it and I was good at it. So it only made sense to go with my heart. I knew to be a professional soccer player was what I wanted and I never hesitated to say it. Until I was asked," Well, what if that doesn't work out. Then what will you do?" Now, I know it wasn't wrong for my teacher to ask that question but it did change the way I thought about my life and my future. I'll admit I went to a Technical High School, so it wasn't the best school to get scouted out of for any sport, no matter how great my soccer career was at that school. Now I am Eighteen years old and graduating high school and my next stop is vacation in Portugal for a month. This may have been a vacation for my Dad but for me it was a stepping stone to my future, as I was getting ready to have try outs with one of the biggest Soccer teams in Portugal. At least that's what I was told was going to happen. After everything was said and done, my try outs were with a third division team and not a top team in the country. This meant I don't get paid. The Narrow Road To The Deep North And The Railway Man Essay Richard Flanagan's novel The Narrow Road to the Deep North and Jonathan Teplitzky's film The Railway Man are two different texts that tell a similar tale on their respective male protagonist's experiences of the Thai–Burma railway as POWs. The authors of the texts have used the experiences from the POW camp to provide context to then explore different variations on the idea of conflict. Flanagan's Dorrigo Evans experiences moral conflict throughout the novel, first as he is pushed into a leadership role and then later as he commits various acts of adultery. By contrast, the character Eric Lomax does not struggle with a sense of morality but rather is trapped in the war and struggles to separate past from present. The centre of the ... Patti's exclusion demonstrates the modern ideas Eric missed due to his involvement in the war and thus provide context as to why Eric found it incredibly difficult to move from his past into an unrecognisably modern present. Comparably, Dorrigo is also seen to struggle to leave the war behind him although this is more due to his reluctance to return to a life of sedentary with Ella rather than live a more controversial life with Amy. "All that came later seemed to condone the sense of meaningless he was to find in civilian life...her [Ella's] lips seemed disappointing... he could not stop think of Amy." (Flanagan, Richard) Ella and Amy represent for Dorrigo his continual moral struggle between right and wrong. Ella is a convenient and socially acceptable choice for Dorrigo to make and yet he remains unattracted to her as he is unable to let go of Amy. Amy meanwhile represents the morally wrong choice, she is the wife of his uncle and yet he still is unable to stop loving her. Ultimately, he chooses to stay with Ella as she is the 'good' choice, this choice likely coming from his earlier conflict during the war as he struggled with his sense of morality. Allende wrote a story, based on a real event, about three main characters. These characters are each in different positions in the story. In their respective position each carry something with them. They each carry a struggle and each struggle builds off the last. Allende reveals three different struggles, each revealed in correlation with the struggle before it, starting with Azucena's given struggle, Rolf's struggle revealed through A's, and the narrator's revealed because of Rolf's continued struggle. The first and most apparent struggle belongs to Azucena. Her struggle is caused by a real natural disaster that took place. A landslide of water and earth sweeps over Azucena's home in an attempt to swallow it whole. Azucena is one of those trapped and waiting for rescue from those who have come to help. She was found "protruding from the mudpit, eyes wide open, calling soundlessly" (Allende 355). Why is her struggle so difficult? She is trapped, with her rescuers unable to help her. Despite all those around trying to help, they just don't have the proper equipment and manpower. Not only that, she also has all this attention on her setting her up to be the symbol of the disaster. She has lost much not only struggling outside, but also in. She is trapped in mud and has had her family die around her. To her, the struggle to survive seems futile, and in the end it is. • 64. The Bottom Line By Anne Lamott "The bottom line is that I like my first drafts to be blind, unconscious, messy efforts; that is what gets me the best material" (Egan). Egan says that when writing, she just lets her words flow regardless of how it may turn out, if it sounds bad, or whether it contains multiple mistakes or grammatical errors. For Egan, getting the work done is all that matters first. Once she gets the first draft done, then she worries about critiques. The same attitude that Egan portrays in her quote is similar to the attitude that Anne Lamott holds in her article Shifty First Drafts. Anne Lamott explicates that like all writers, she also finds it a challenge at times to generate her first writing drafts. In her article she looks to show her audience–writers–that it's okay to struggle with first drafts because "very few writers really know what they are doing until they've don't it". Overall, Lamott just wants writers to know that "almost all good writing begins with terrible first efforts", so regardless of the horrible results that may surface from the first draft, writers just need to focus on just getting any and all ideas down on paper. Connecting with her audience, Lamott uses heartfelt personal examples and experiences alongside ethos; which aids her in offering advice via everyday word choice that is placed in a sequential order. Throughout her work, Lamott utilizes everyday diction. She uses words such as we and you. By using the words "we" and "you" Lamott makes her article ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His witty and good natured humor is apparent throughout the essay but is significantly emphasized in regards to his sexual identity which he chooses to take a comedic approach towards as he writes about his childhood experiences. Sedaris's use of humor, anecdotal evidence, military diction and hidden dark tones all add depth and interest to his story by grabbing the readers interest and revealing depth of character through the images he creates with his descriptions. He states that he would watch over the speech therapy door to see if any of the popular kids would come out of it. The dark undercurrents in the tone of this essay reveal to the reader that Sedaris's humor is more of a coping mechanism. His childhood was a confusing and distressing time for him. He had to deal with his high pitched voice, his lisp and his oddball status along with his aversion to sports and being a gay young man in what seems to be a very straight community. All of this is told with what seems to be a lighthearted tone but the reader can subconsciously pick up on the dark undercurrents and feel some of the second hand pain that Sedaris felt while going through these struggles in his youth. I use to play games with their feelings and didn 't care if they got hurt because I was only looking out for myself. The reason I was like this was because I 've seen my older siblings get their heart broken, so I made up in my mind that I would not have that happen to me. So whenever I would date a young lady I would always have someone I was talking to on the side but I would lie to the person I was with saying that I wasn 't seeing no one but them. One instance I was dating this girl who I grew to like very much to the point where I wasn 't talking to no one but her. This was the very first time in my life where I had really opened up to a girl and experienced what it was like to be in love. Then one day I was out with my cousin and saw my girlfriend all hugged up on another guy. I was very hurt and humiliated because my cousin was there to witness me get my heart broken. That moment in my life taught me how those other young ladies who really liked me felt when I was treating them in that manner. I would say that I 'm not the same person that I was a year ago. I 'm different because I no longer have a young boy 's mindset but yet I 'm growing daily and learning from the mistakes I 've made in the past. • 72. Is Adversity Is A Blessing? Adversity Is A Blessing Each person's success and happiness depends largely on his or her responses to the difficulties of life. When some people face adversity, they complain and become bitter. They ask questions like "Why does this have to happen to me? Why do I have to suffer this now? What have I done to deserve this?" But these questions have the power to dominate their thoughts. Such questions can overtake their vision, absorb their energy, and deprive them of the experiences they learn. Rather than responding in this way, people should consider asking questions such as, "What am I to do? What am I to learn from this experience? What am I to change? Whom am I to help? How can I remember my many blessings in times of trial?" Adversity is inevitable, but difficulties or misfortunes don't have to keep you from achieving your intended goals and finding the happiness you seek in business and in life. It's how you overcome these adversities can make all the difference. Every challenge we successfully conquer serves to strengthen not only our will, but our confidence, and therefore our ability to confront future obstacles. • 74. The Glass Castle By Jeannette Walls Usually in society parents are to be blamed for failing to raise their children in the right way. It is very easy for the society to criticize parents when they mistreat their child or not take care of his/her needs and wants. It is easy for a parent to get judged in society comparing to a child because parents are role models for children's. Even when a child has been mistreated by her/his parent, it is easy for the child to forgive their parents. The reason behind that situation would be a parent's unconditional love that a child sees, despite what he/she has been through. In the book The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls, she portraits a situation like that where the character spends her childhood memories with her father. Even though Jeannette's father Rex Walls was an irresponsible father and failed to protect his children, Jeannette still loved her father dearly. During Christmas Jeannette's father Rex would give his kids stars as a present. Jeannette describes Rex as an intelligent, loving and smart father that she admired a lot. The term father reflected Jeannette's overall admiration for her father because her father is brave enough to face the cold. As the author quotes, 'the cold never bothered him" (39). In other words, Rex Walls has the potential to make Jeannette feel special. Specifically, Jeannette describes her father in a very simple way that explains the entry experience and structure of the story. In the book Jeannette repeats that "Dad said" several ... Arnold in The Absolute True Diary of a Part Time Indian faces the same situation, but he does not leave the truth. That is why the novel faced bans in different states after it was published. However, the struggle Arnold waged in order to make himself recognized is heroic one despite realization that he belongs to the underdogs and there is no hope. His struggle is rather a hope against hope, yet he knew that "life is a constant struggle between being an individual and being a member of the community" (132) in which case he belonged to Indians, a Sokane Community in which he was raised.
