How Did Beatrix Potter Impact Society
Bright–eyed and bouncing with excitement, I stare up at my father from my bed as he reads The
Tale of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter for the umpteenth time. As I drift off to sleep, Flopsy, Mopsy,
Cotton–tail, and Peter Rabbit dance around in my dreams and with them, Beatrix Potter's
imaginative world cements its lasting impression into my life. Cradling my Peter Rabbit ragdoll, I
carry the lessons of her tales into adulthood. Similar to how I draw upon my childhood influences,
Beatrix Potter drew upon hers. Throughout her life, Potter was affected by a multitude of influences
which built the foundation for her success; in her teenage years, Potter met Hardwicke Rawnsley
who impacted the course of her future achievements. The encounterments that people have in their
lives reappear subtly throughout their entire lives as they themselves build upon the progress of the
past. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His nature campaign encouraged Potter's love of nature and in turn, he began her future legacy.
Following in his fashion, Potter became a conservationist for the countryside. As an adult, her work
supported the protection of fields, valleys, and the Herdwick sheep she raised herself. Because of the
conservation work done by Rawnsley, Potter was galvanized to begin her own powerful
conservational work. She saved traditional and natural practices. Moreover, his influence appears in
her scientific work. Potter's affinity for nature, specifically mycology, grew because of Ransley. He
encouraged her illustrations and Potter used her artistic skills to depict accurate drawings of fungi
that modern scientists continue to reference. His early encounter with Potter impassioned her to
blaze her own path in vital conservational and scientific work that others continue to build

Fantastic Beasts And Where Find Them Trailer
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them Trailer The Harry Potter film series is one of the highest
grossing movie franchises of all time. It created a rich universe that is beloved by millions, and a
few years ago, the author of Harry Potter announced that there will be a new series of films set
several decades prior to the events of Harry Potter. The new film, Fantastic Beasts and Where to
Find Them, had a lot of expectations to uphold. The purpose of this essay is to provide a rhetorical
criticism of one of the trailers for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. First, I will report on
the film trailer. Next, I will analyze the trailer 's context relative to the communication model, visual
appeal, color foundations, nonverbal communication, and language choices. Finally, I will judge the
effectiveness of the messages the trailer was trying to communicate. I chose this artifact as Harry
Potter was one of my favorite series growing up, and wished to analyze how the trailer for a film
that already has a large established universe behind it, yet still has to find a way to create its own
context. To be able to analyze the trailer, the facts of what happened in it first must be reported on.
Auer (1981) states that a rhetorical critic has three roles, the first of which being to report on the
artifact being critiqued, meaning someone just "reports the facts: [they do] not interpret them or
make judgements about them" (p. 2). The trailer used in this analysis opens with a shot

The More Time You Spend Trying To Find Yourself By...
Persuasive Essay
"The more time you spend trying to find yourself in the world, you're just losing yourself" Stephanie
Pellegrin. Just like the author of "Be Yourself", trying to fit in is what others try to do, finding
friends while feeling safe with peers is what others try to find. Others found their rightful place of
safety with others finding it hard to fit in with the others being "unique" to find peers with the same
hobbies and interest. The following quote expresses how being yourself can express your ideas
without having to hide being a shell of insecurity about how others think. Stephanie expresses her
ideas to the reader to just be yourself and forget about the opinion of others that would have an
impact on their trail of thought in a negative way. In my opinion, life can surely be hard while also
being questionable at times, but sometimes you just have to strive through to find the meaning of
life.
The author communicates to her younger self about how she doesn't have to do everything to just
find her place in the school. An advice that would find her way into finding more about herself
within the world while not losing herself as a person. Life can be hard due to how Stephanie tried to
fit in by joining groups that would find her talent in the school. Stephanie brought up this chance to
give advice to her younger self to "Just be yourself." Defining their years as a memorable experience
with changing interests in the future like the author's tastes in books like her interest in the Harry
Potter series. Stephanie revealed to the reader, she could have spent time with her friends in the
lunch room instead of being lonely on multiple occasions.
In "Just Be Yourself," the author reveals to the readers the teen self of the author only joined
multiple groups just to comprehend her skills and talents to going as far to joining groups she had
hated to . Resulting, in a clear hatred for ROTC or Reserve Officers' Training Corps along with
nightmares about the fifth position in ballet for both versions of the author. Stephanie Pellegrin was
determined with an inquisitive mindset as backfired effects of joining the multiple groups had fueled
her will to find herself, but at the cost of lost time in doing

What Are The Differences Between Beatrix Kidgo And...
"I'd rather regret the things I have done, than regret the things I have not done" Lucille Ball. Two
completely different stories, one must say when both movies are held in hand. How can an animated
Disney movie and an action film directed by the one and only Quentin Tarantino are related? Both
of these films share predominant topics, such as, the love of family; the separation of family; and a
strong female lead.
"Revenge is a dish best served cold" Old Klingon Proverb. Both movies contain two "unalike" main
characters of two "unalike" stories. In Kill Bill, Beatrix Kiddo also known as The Bride or Black
Mamba is a woman that lacks mercy, compassion, and forgiveness, but with so much history, and

Whether these two characters are heroes or not, is very subjective. A hero can be defined as a person
distinguished for bold deeds. Chihiro is a hero for the reason that she lives up to the characteristics
of it, since she always looked for the others best. She helped Haku when she thought he was dying,
helped No Face, helped the God of the River and helped her parents. She aided all of them with
hero–like qualities like patience, hard work, humbleness, gentility, and in a very peaceful way.
Nevertheless, Beatrix Kiddo does not accomplish these characteristics, yes, she tried to avenge her
daughter's "death", but it was for her own sake, as a payback for the atrocious crime done against
her. She achieves her goal in a very different way that Chihiro does, she does it with wrath, fury,
rage, violence and madness. Nonetheless, Kiddo has not the characteristics of a villain, but of an
antihero. She does have a few hero–like features, such as, courage, audacity, quick thinking and
endurance. But she also has villain's features, such as compassionless, begrudged, and

How Does Beatrix Potter Make Creative Children
Creative Children Author Every day, people read books from the most famous authors, because their
stories that they enjoy can cause them to read more. Some authors, creates unusual stories that
people had never even used before in every generation. A women named Beatrix Potter is one of the
famous authors in the United States because she is an artist, and she creates books for the children to
read. In the twentieth century, Beatrix Potter creates brilliant children books that children love
reading today. Unlike other children literature, her stories does not have main characters that are
people, but by animals, acting like human beings. She also creates stories that relates to her own
pets, like Benjamin Bunny. How does she receives such wonderful, nontraditional stories? When she
was a young girl she started telling bed time stories for her siblings. When she became older, she
starts to create children's stories in letters to other children first until she starts to create children's
books, from her childhood, and published them to every children all around the world. ... Show

She also enjoys drawing on every animal, including rabbits and ducks. When she was a child, she
started to draw animals outside her backyard, when she travels, and enjoys drawing her pets. She
basically," had shown talent for drawing, which her father had encouraged. "(Dennison). That
explains how she receives the ideas on having stories about animals with human personalities!
Therefore, Beatrix Potter stories are magnificent because of the illustration of the books and using
her creative mind for her stories. An imaginative person's mind can lead to a creative mark. This
theme means that when a person has gone crazy of weird imagination, same as Beatrix Potter, it will
follow the tracks of wacky new

Foucault 's Assertion That One 's Own
Written Response Most Persuasive Assertion Michel Foucault 's assertion that one's own "author–
function" can exceed their own work is a claim in which can be backed by an array of existing and
deceased author 's. An agreeable claim, even though Foucault attempts to disassemble it later on in
the essay. Foucault initially states, "One might say that it is not true that the author of a novel is only
the author of his own text; in a sense, he also, provided that he acquires some "importance," governs
and commands more than that. To take a very simple example, one could say that Ann Radcliffe not
only wrote The Castles of Athlin and Dunbayne and several other novels, but also made possible the
appearance of the Gothic horror novel at the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And the authors are given credit for their contributions to the world of literature not only in
founding new genres but crafting new styles and expanding on existing genres/formats. The
experimental novels of Dorothy Richardson displayed what would eventually be coined by William
James as the stream of conscious narrative form. Religious mythologies around the world crafted the
parable, which would later get perfected in the form of Grimm 's fairytales and Aesop 's fables. The
thread line of the evolution of literature is there and can be followed to its main contributors.
Contributors whose work can easily be defined as something which exceeds their "author–function"
as Foucault states it. Such a claim can be broadened out to any art form including that of music and
art. Even more contemporary style of storytelling in film and cinema had individuals whose work
exceeded their "author–intention" and opened up the doors to new styles, genres, and avenues for
aspiring artists to venture forth down. Least Persuasive Assertion Foucault 's claim that the Author is
"dead" is solely based off of perspective and how you see an author. His assertion mirrors the
philosophical concept fashioned by Nietzsche you was famously quoted for his saying "God is
dead,". The phrase was used to signify the change in philosophical discussions which removed any

James Stewart's viewpoint becomes gendered to that of the film's director, Alfred Hitchcock.
Hollywood is male dominated, in turn, creating cinema which is more male–friendly.
A more recent example of the male gaze is exemplified in the Tomb Raider's main character, Lara
Croft. Albeit Lara is a certified heroine who can shoot, move, and communicate alongside or against
and even better than most males, she is stunningly beautiful. If one were to ask the cause Lara was
fighting for, it is forgettable to most audiences. What becomes memorable aside from her
remarkable strength and beauty is that Lara has a bountiful bosom, small waistline, and buxom yet
athletic lower torso, long hair and gorgeous face. Her actions are very masculine and she doesn't fit
the mold of past Hollywood examples of female leads, but these attributes are what makes her the
embodiment of the male gaze.
While Uma Thurman is undoubtedly beautiful, and Kill Bill, Volume 1 is directed by a heterosexual

It can be easily seen in the too formal dialogues engaged in by protagonists throughout the movie,
which seemingly were taken from formal letters. For instance, in the scene when Beatrix and her
brother send good–night kisses to their parents with "Good night, mother" and "Good night, father",
I suppose it is rather funny and bizarre when parents are called father and mother in daily
conversation, instead of daddy and mommy. The only reason behind this interesting point of the
story, probably, could spring from the traditional culture of English in the old society, which means
that people usually keep extremely polite and elicit clever responses to each other in every single
conversation. One more fascinating English trait subtly immersed in the movie is the punctuality. To
observant viewers, they would discover some amusing situations when Beatrix's mother, Mrs. Helen
Potter, keeps grumbling about the being late for an event at the good–night scene and once with
"How charming of you to be punctual!" at the welcoming–the–Normans–sister part. Personally, this
could be a message the director wants to delicately send through the movie. Likewise, on seeking
information of the leading lady, I was apprised that Renée Zellweger who played the role of Miss
Potter was American, and her accent in the film was just her imitation. Therefore, I was

Compare And Contrast Emma Watson
On our everyday, we are surrounded by heroes. A hero is a person who has special abilities in
helping others and in thinking about others priorities before their own. Classical heroes are super
humans that are brave, that use their abilities to help other, that go on a journey, and in some point of
their life they have a revelation about their true identity as a hero. Modern–day heroes are average
people, that face challenges and have problems to which people can relate. They don't go on the
classical heroes' physical journey; they go on an internal one. They also care about others' problems
and are always ready to help. Emma Watson is a perfect example of a hero. She relates to a classical
hero because she is brave, she likes helping people that needs her help and she uses her power,
influence, to help other people. Emma Watson can also be seen as a hero because she goes on
multiple journeys during her life. She relates to a modern–day hero because she started her life as an
average person, faces daily challenges, and she helps others. Overall, Emma Watson can be seen as a
hero because of several aspects. Even though she lives in the 21st Century, Emma Watson has
similarities with a classical hero. First, she is very brave. During her career, a lot of people said bad
things about her, and she had to be brave to deal with these commentaries. In 2011, for example,

Text Of World Is Education And Health
Text to World Connection: A connection that I can make from the text to the world is education and
health. In the story Ged went in to a coma when the monster claws his face off. I can relate this to
the world because a lot of kids who go to school often hurt themselves with injuries and will have to
miss out on school and they might not be the same again. This can even relate in professional sports
as a player for the Chicago Bulls of the NBA named Derrick Rose had multiple knee injuries which
did not let him play for a long time and now he can never live up to the outstanding player he was in
his younger days. For example, Ged had to miss out on school as he healed slowly and he missed
out on a lot of things at wizard school. After the coma the kids don't even recognize him and leave
him alone as before the coma they used to bother him. An example of a real world situation of this is
when a friend of mine broke his wrist and had to miss out on a lot and it was just too hard to catch
up as he ended up struggling a lot till he got back on track and this is the same thing that happened
to Ged. Text to Self Connection: A connection that I can make to myself is when Ged meats a really

Analysis Of ' The Color Of Skin, Blood, And Species. J. K....
Literal and Metaphorical Racial Ideologies in Harry Potter The Colour of Skin, Blood, and Species
J. K. Rowling has long been lauded for her inventive implementation of underlying complexities
within the Harry Potter series. Further analyzation reveals how, through magical and metaphorical
racial themes, she also evaluates contemporary and historical racial ideologies outside of the
wizarding world. The series perpetrates antiquated racial constructs with no hint of satire on the
surface. However, she takes advantage of the readers ' willing suspension of disbelief, effectively
penetrating psychological defences, in order to offer contradictory examinations explicitly
encompassing race–related issues. As opposed to dealing specifically with skin colour and
nationality, Rowling safely explores under the guise of magical species and blood purity. Per contra,
the conversely related metaphorical and literal interpretations are complementary; the metaphorical
elements create a deeper layer of insight into the Eurocentrism than a surface observation would
provide. Regarding the literal and modern perception of racial prejudice, J. K. Rowling presents a
universe ostensibly void of racial tension and unrestrained by "constrictive" ethnic identity
(Lyubansky 2). Though multiple minorities are featured in the novels and film adaptations, race is
made irrelevant and never acknowledged by the characters. The mainly neoconservative racial
ideology Rowling adopts for the books assumes

Voldemort From The Context Of The Bhagavad Gita Analysis
Iniquitous: Voldemort from the Context of the Bhagavad Gita What is good? What is evil? We
cannot concretely define these words because of the grey area both definitions possess. According to
the Oxford Dictionaries, "possessing or displaying moral virtue" (Oxford1) quantifies as good, but
what are "moral virtue(s)" exactly? A definition could vary significantly depending on who you ask.
I would consider giving a friend the answers to the homework if they have had a rough week moral.
As a friend, I would do what I could to lighten their load. But someone else could consider it
cheating and ethically wrong because I am letting my friend take credit for my work. In their eyes, I
would be considered as "profoundly immoral," (Oxford2) Oxford's definition of evil. Defining such
words can be psychologically straining, especially when society places constant pressure on people
to act a certain way to look good in everyone's eyes and avoid being ostracized by those people. But
wanting to please every person and receive their approval turns into unobtainable expectations.
Although evil has an ambiguous definition, a certain type of evil prevails no matter the
circumstance. One specific fictional character fits the criteria for evil, Tom Riddle. Riddle, also
known as Voldemort, has copious amounts of people's blood on his hands, from his father to James
and Lily Potter. His actions would directly align with Oxford's definition of evil: "profoundly
immoral" and "wicked." (Oxford2) In

My Love For Media In The Film Industry
Growing up, my family established in me a love for media in the film industry early on. Being an
only child, we would watch movies together all the time. It became a tradition to watch movies
together, whether they are Disney movies or some random film that no one's ever heard of before
that my dad found on TV. The film industry has always been a gateway to another world for me, and
I have always enjoyed sitting down by myself or with a group of people and watching a good movie.
The movies The Sound of Music, High School Musical, and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
have all had a significant impact on my life and most accurately describe who I am today. When I
was younger, I used to watch The Sound of Music all the time. My mom has always loved that
movie, and we constantly used to watch it in music class at my school. Watching it over and over
again finally made me fall in love with it. The Sound of Music, for me, was a way for me to escape
and just listen to Julie Andrews' voice. I loved the soundtrack so much, my favorite track being "My
Favorite Things," and the music helped me develop my strong love for music that I have now.
Throughout my life, I have been member of a church choir, and I was in show choir from the fifth
grade until the ninth grade. I have always loved to sing and perform, and this film pushed me to
music, which makes it a reflection of who I am today. The song "My Favorite Things" was also

Roles Of Harry Potter And The Basildoter
Snakes and their serpentine kin play important antagonistic roles in the world of Harry Potter. The
Basilisk is the monster in Harry's second annual death–courting in Harry Potter and the Chamber of
Secrets. A Freudian analysis sees the battle between Harry and the Basilisk as a sublimation of the
Oedipal Complex. This has been recognized in books such as Classical Myths and Films in the New
Millennium. Jungians also see other archetypes in play around Harry and snakes. However, the
Basilisk was not just another of Harry's trials. The Basilisk imparted much more in Harry's
fulfillment of his story. Harry Potter is almost a trope for Oedipal. Harry has often and clearly been
diagnosed with the Oedipal complex. The elements are similarly often and clearly portrayed
throughout the series. Lily's undying love saves Harry through her own death. It is a transcendent
love for her son. Voldemort had imparted part of his soul onto Harry, which is pivotal to his defeat.
Voldemort is a part progenitor that Harry kills. Even his wife Ginny is portrayed with semblances of
Harry's mother. In accordance to Freudian Theory of Eros–Thanatos, the libido is unable to satisfy
the Life Drive, therefore the Death Drive becomes dominant. Harry kills the forbearer that prevents
him from relations with his mother. Then sublimates that continued frustration with marriage and
career. Psychoanalysis is very cut and dry in terms of explanation. In fact, Freudian interpretations

An Integral Location Within The Harry Potter Series By Jk...
Platform 9 ¾, an integral location within the Harry Potter series by JK Rowling, provides the focus
for the final third of this chapter. Initially, I analyse the site as a barrier to the tourist, before
considering its nature as a collectively read text, and finally I discuss the platform as a disregarded
location within the Harry Potter series. Located within the concourse of King 's Cross station, a
space which sees a footfall of approximately 48 million individuals per year (Network Rail, n.d.),
Platform 9 ¾ is one of the most visible literary spaces within the United Kingdom, with replicas of
the platform existing internationally in sites as diverse as The Wizarding World of Harry Potter

Driven by the perpetual success of the Harry Potter series across a range of diverse media, these
worldwide representations of the platform offer tourists the opportunity to experience a simulacrum
of the platform at King 's Cross, a site embodied with a primacy of location. This primacy, led
through the primary evidence of the texts and the visual authority providing by the locations used in
the film, seems set to continue upon the imminent cinematic release of Fantastic Beasts and Where

To my immense frustration, I didn 't have a pen that worked, and I was too shy to ask anybody if I
could borrow one." At first, Rowling wrote Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in private. She
hadn't told anyone her project, and only a few people knew that she was writing anything of
importance. In December 1990, before Rowling had told her mother anything, Anne died after
suffering from multiple sclerosis for ten years. Her death affected Rowling greatly, and impacted her
writing. Due to the death, Rowling could go much more into depth of the killing of Harry's parents,
and how he felt, all because she felt it too.
Rowling moved away from her family so she could live in Portugal, where she met Jorge Arantes, a
Portuguese journalist. In October 1992, Rowling married Jorge, and their daughter, Jessica Isabel,
was born in Portugal on the 27th of July, 1993. A couple of months later the couple separated
(eventually divorced in 1994); many say that Rowling had been abused during the marriage, but the
truth has been kept quiet. The following month, Rowling and her daughter moved to Scotland, near
her sister.
Being jobless, divorced, and raising a child by herself, Rowling was not happy with her life. She fell
into depression, which led to the creation of dementors in the third installment of Harry Potter;
black, hooded, soul sucking beings that will drain you of all happiness.

Importance Of Reading In My Life
Life In Between The Pages Everybody reads. Everybody has picked up a book at least once in their
life and flipped through its pages. Everybody reads, but once they reach that final page, do they feel
an indifference, or do they feel a personal connection? From early childhood to young adulthood,
reading has always been a part of my life. Reading had always been important to me because as a
child, I was very shy, and being an only child, I had a lot of time on my own, so I often turned to
books to fuel my urge for adventure. Reading became personal to me at a very young age because I
read as if I was living in the book myself. Ever since that point in my life, my joy of reading
continued to flourish. The pages of my books grew thicker and thicker as I aged, and the genres
broadened and the vocabulary matured. Literature has played a meaningful role in my life since the
very beginning and helped shape me into the kind of person I am today, it has influenced my
personality directly, and the close relationship I hold with literature. If we are going to be reflecting
on the impact literature has had on me as a person, it would make the most logical sense to rewind
all the way back to the earliest point of reading in my life. Childhood. I learned to read the same
way most children did, in Kindergarten. There I was taught letters and the sounds that they made,
and from there, to put two sounds together to form a word. I caught on very fast, I was 5 years old

J. K. Rowling?s Portrayal of Magical Creatures in the Harry Potter Series as Compared to Creatures
in Ancient Mythology The world famous book series, Harry Potter, has been an instant success
worldwide. This series follows the life of a young boy, Harry Potter, in chronological order from the
beginning to the end of his schooling. Harry Potter is schooled at a magical school somewhere in
England, which is where the majority of the books take place. He is an adventurous boy who
experiences many different quests and journeys with his loyal friends. This book series focuses
mainly on the many magical creatures from many different types of mythology, some even including
stories with Indian, Greek, or Roman backgrounds. J. K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter
series, incorporates these magical animals into the stories? plots and help to convey several
messages about Harry Potter. The mythical creatures that are the most prominent in Rowling?s
series are the dragons and werewolves. The dragon and werewolf both have origins found in
mythology and are crucial to Rowling?s themes in the books Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, furthering the messages that Rowling is trying to portray
to her audience. In the Harry Potter series, written by J. K. Rowling, Rowling uses two specific
magical creatures that have many correlations to ancient mythology and help to widen the

John Rowe Townsend once argued that the only practical definition of a children's book is one that
appears on the children's list by a publisher. Contemporary publishers are not making that distinction
any easier; for example, Maurice Sendak's Outside Over There (1981) was published as a picture
book for both children and adults, and J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter series is available in adult and
children's versions with the only difference being the book's cover art. While folk and Fairy Tales
were not originally intended for children, they have become a staple of children's literature since the
early nineteenth century. On the other hand, many books written for and widely read by children
during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries are considered historical children's literature today
and are read almost exclusively by adult scholars of children's literature. Children's literature has
been written, illustrated, published, marketed, and purchased consistently by adults to be given to
children for their edification and entertainment. Generally speaking, it is the intended audience
rather than the producers of the texts who define the field. Children's texts written by child or
adolescent authors, such as Daisy Ashford's The Young Visiters(1919) or Anne Frank's Het
Achterhuis (1947; The Diary of a Young Girl, 1952), are exceptions to the rule. Many famous

Research Paper On Beatrix Potter
150 years ago, Helen (Beatrix) Potter, one of best known children's author, was born July 28th, 1866
in London, England. Both of her parents were interested in art and as a result, Helen had the
opportunity to meet other important artists. During her early childhood, she and her brother were
fascinated by things in nature and sketching animals was one of her favorite things to do. As she
grew up, she studied at the National Art Training School in the late 1870s to help with her develop
her talents. Beatrix Potter found other ways of producing her illustrations other than books. She
found some success by selling her illustration to be used to produce greeting cards. She also had
drawings and paintings featured in many museums such as the Victoria and Albert Museum in
London.
In 1902, The Tale of Peter Rabbit was published. This book originally began as a story that Beatrix
put into letter written for the children of a governess. That specific book launched her career as an

How Does Beatrix Potter Use Illustrations In The Tale Of...
Beatrix Potters, The Tale of Peter Rabbit (1902), is a classic example of how illustrations help create
story using a visual deception of what is happening within the story, and expand the use of text to
add to the overall plot. Illustrations have more to them than just making the page look pretty; they
educate and develop the imagination of young readers, but are also there for the enjoyment and
understanding of the story. On an educational level, the connection of illustration to the child reader
still remain little understood, as Fang (1996) explains 'The relation of pictures to stories and the
nature of the readers interaction with both are an important aspect of literacy too little regarded and
even less understood'. This is why it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On page 66, we appear to see Peter being cared for, (Potter, 1902, p.67) 'His mother put him to bed,
and made some camomile tea', after his traumatic day, however this isn't what the illustration is
really showing. From the image, we can see Peter at the back of the room, looking willingly at his
sisters, with a vision of envy. This could be seen as role reversal due to Peter's actions, because
throughout the book we see Peter as the main character and almost always the center of attention
where the illustrations are concerned. However in this picture he is at the back and the girls are at
the front, even though they still have their backs to us. Young readers would feel sympathy for Peter,
because he is the protagonist and has been the main focus throughout the book, so to see him singled
out like this would encourages this, but an adult reader would read between the lines, and see that he
is actually being punished because he doesn't want to go to bed and have camomile tea. Peter wants
to stay up with his sisters and have 'bread and milk and blackberries for

China, not known for its liberal policy on literature, has allowed 600,000 boxed sets of the first three
books in the series to be printed. This is the largest amount of any fiction ever released by the
People's Literature Publishing House since the Communist party came into power in 1949 (Gray

Despite this unprecedented wave of popularity, the Harry Potter books have topped the list of the

witchcraft is a real and dangerous menace, much as the misguided people of Salem did. These
people provide proof for their belief in witchcraft in part because anyone interested in witchcraft
may evidently log on to the internet and make an inquiry of AskJeeves.com (Komschlies 113). It is

The Lightning Thief Book Analysis
Rick Riordan's The Lightning Thief is book one in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series.
Published in 2005, the series has since grown to include multiple spin–off series, many of which tie
back in to the Olympian series. Many of the readers of Harry Potter would also be interested in this
series, as it also involves magic, previously unknown parentage, and adventure. It differs from the
Harry Potter series however, in that it is written all from Percy Jackson's point of view. This right
away is going to make the film version of the book completely different. The book starts with Percy
talking to the reader: "Look, I didn't want to be a half–blood.
If you're reading this because you think you might be one, my advice is: close this book right now.
Believe whatever lie your mom or dad told you about your birth and try to lead a normal life.
Being a half–blood is dangerous. It's scary. Most of the time, it gets you killed in painful, nasty
ways" (Riordan, p.1).
Percy is not just talking to himself or thinking, he is talking to the real world knowing someone is
reading a book. It sets an interesting contrast to Rowling's book where the book centered around
Harry Potter and not through him like Riordan is doing. Which means the way we get information is
different as well, Percy is doing all the describing. He tells the audience how old he is, where the
plot is, and gives foreshadowing. It makes the reader feel like the events are more at their level, as a

This assignment asked students to construct a summary and to synthesize a response to the various
points of view included in the readings. I selected the chapter that addressed the value of a college
education. Writing effective and analytical summaries is always a challenge, but as I worked on the
assignment I could see how this process is really important to developing an argument in objective
terms. In other words, deciding what I thought about a topic and then finding research to support my
ideas is not an effective way to complete good research. Instead, good research consists of looking a
variety of opinions and then drawing conclusions about what arguments were most compelling.
Moreover, using APA style forced me to look closely at the timeliness of the different essays and to
consider how opinions shift over time. The second project assigned consisted of developing the
information we synthesized from our first project into our own argument. I had originally planned to

There are two artists from distinct eras, who have made a profound impact on the world of
illustration. One artist is a contemporary icon known for his success within the movie industry with
his creations used in the 1980s Oscar winning movie, Alien (HR Giger). H.R. Giger was born in
Chur, Switzerland in 1940. Though he studied architecture and industrial design, he became one of
the most famous surrealist artists concentrating on works of fantastic realism (HR Giger). The other
artist used her illustrations to bring children's literature to mainstream society in the early 1900s:
Helen Beatrix Potter. Born on July 28, 1866 in Kensington, London, Potter was a self–taught

For this fact, both H.R. Giger and Beatrix Potter should be studied for their separate and varying
contributions to the world of illustration.
H.R.Giger's illustrations are considered gothic with a twist of the cosmic supernatural. Best known
for his book, Necronomicon, he published in 1977, Giger quickly rose to attention. This book is a
collection of images with his most recognized being depictions of aliens in a "surrealistic
biochemical dreamscape" (HR Giger). These representations caught the eye of Hollywood director
Ridley Scott, who based his horror movie, Alien, upon Giger's creations. This movie would be
awarded the 1980s Oscar for the Best Achievement in Visual Effects for title character, stages of life
cycle and environment (HR Giger). As an artist, Giger's strongest illustration characteristic is artistic
technique. Using ink, oils and airbrushing, Giger's compositions are bold with the use of all

Comparing Jesus Christ and Harry Potter as Heroes Essay
If there are two names that can be recognized anywhere in the world, one would definitely be Harry

boy wizard who encountered many different trials and tribulations during his stay in the Hogwarts
School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The seven books have been read by millions of children and

King Herod ordered the deaths of all baby boys in Bethlehem because of the prophecy that someone
would overthrow his oppressive rule. In order to save Jesus' life, his parents fled and brought him to
Egypt. (Murphy 28). In the story of Harry Potter, the dark wizard Voldemort attempted to kill the
one–year old Harry Potter because "a boy of Harry's description was prophesied before his birth to
be the coming vanquisher of the dark lord." (Granger 72) However, his mother saved his life and a
magical protection was put upon him, which came from the so–called power of love (Brown 58).
The second conflict that both Jesus Christ and Harry Potter faced was that they were the savior–
figures in their stories. Malone (57) defined a savior–figure as someone who "can and does suffer,
but the meaning of the figure is more in leadership, in rescuing and saving, in helping fellow human
beings to a destiny that images paradise." This was precisely the duty of both Harry Potter and Jesus
Christ. They had to better the worlds that they lived in, and to do that, they had to suffer. In their
case, they had to sacrifice their lives. The Romans thought that Jesus was a blasphemer who was
using God's name to spread his own false messages (Bredin 190) and ended up having to crucify
him. This crucifixion was all part of God's plan, and through this action, Jesus ended up

The Fringe Benefits Of Failure, And The Importance Of Speech
Nearly all writing exhibits rhetorical elements to convey the writer's message in a meaningful way.
These techniques assist the readers in connecting with the author to fully understand the message
and can also be used by the writer to influence the audience to feel a certain way about a topic. As
Doug Downs said, "Some people learn to be rhetorical experts who can take those underlying
principles shaping human interaction and finesse them in specific activities," (460,1).Using
rhetorical elements to appeal to an audience's emotions have always been a foolproof way for urging
people to pay attention to what you have to say and is almost the most persuasive technique.
However, many other rhetorical techniques can also be used to prompt an audience to really adhere
to what the writer is trying to convey. Such devices are beautifully displayed in J.K. Rowling's
commencement speech, "The Fringe Benefits of Failure, and the Importance of Imagination", to
Harvard University's 2008 graduates and in George Saunders' speech, "Congratulations, by the
Way", to the Syracuse University 2013 graduates. J.K. Rowling and George Saunders use many
rhetorical elements in their speeches, such as identification, motivational aspects, and the use of
story–telling to gracefully convey their personal experiences and wisdom to the audience of young
adults. Both speeches were influential and powerful; However, I feel as though J.K. Rowling's
speech was more effective in terms of delivery, because of

Examples Of Transmedia Storytelling In The Harry Potter...
Back in 2003 Henry Jenkins caused a massive stir in the media world when he introduced the idea
of transmedia storytelling. Jenkins describes it as a process where elements of fiction are dispersed
across multiple media platforms in order to serve the purpose of creating a coordinated
entertainment experience. Jenkins goes on to say that preferably, each medium will contribute
different aspects which will assist in the telling of a story and unveil new aspects. However a good
transmedia text does not simply supply information, instead it allows the fans, or fandom, to interact
with the world within the text (Jenkins, 2007). This essay will argue that transmedia storytelling

If we are watching a film on the television we may be scrolling through social media sites at the
same time but the problem has emerged that stories don't follow that (Humphrey, 2011). An
unnamed screenwriter once said that "When I first started you would pitch a story because without a
good story, you didn't really have a film. Later, once sequels started to take off, you pitched a
character because a good character could support multiple stories. And now, you pitch a world
because a world can support multiple characters and multiple stories across multiple media."
(Jenkins, 2006) Modern stories have been developed so that they have the ability to become
transmedia stories, compared to older stories where they alone were enough to entertain the
audience. Some older films have struggled to adapt into this new transmedia era, while others fit
into this area perfectly and now provide us with some of the best examples of transmedia
storytelling, one such example is The Lord of the Rings series, by J.R.R. Tolkien. The journey in
Middle Earth, the world where the series is set, began in 1937 when Tolkien released "The Hobbit",
and ran until 1955. Multiple attempts were made in this time to make the books into films but
Tolkien believed that the technology didn't exist to do them justice. Due to advancements in
filmography, in 2001 director Peter Jackson

Commodity Fetishism In Harry Potter By Turner-Vorbeck
"The fundamental implication at work here is that their needs be nothing aesthetically valuable or
unique about that upon which an imposed phenomena is generated. Is it something special about the
Harry Potter books that has caused such a sensation or is the sensation artificially manufactured and
simply centered around them? An understanding of commodity fetishism supports the latter
position. If the Harry Potter books were, indeed, worthy of such widespread adulation, then the
support for them would have naturally risen up from the readers rather than being pushed down
upon them by mass media marketing" (Turner–Vorbeck, 8)
I noticed that here Turner–Vorbeck is assuming who her audience is by the language that she is
using. To me, the words and phrases that she uses indicate that she assumes that academics are the
only ones who are going to be reading her essay. Her language is not inherently difficult to
understand, it's not something I could envision seeing in a newspaper or magazine where millions of
everyday people would read it. I also noted that in this particular passage Turner–Vorbeck uses a
rhetorical question, the question being "Is it something special about the Harry Potter books that has
caused a sensation or is the sensation artificially manufactured and simply centered around them?"
(Turner–Vorbeck, 8). While she knows we as the readers will not have an answer to that question,
she uses this to set up her next claim: that the Harry Potter books are not good

How Did Beatrix Potter Impact Society

  • 1. How Did Beatrix Potter Impact Society Bright–eyed and bouncing with excitement, I stare up at my father from my bed as he reads The Tale of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter for the umpteenth time. As I drift off to sleep, Flopsy, Mopsy, Cotton–tail, and Peter Rabbit dance around in my dreams and with them, Beatrix Potter's imaginative world cements its lasting impression into my life. Cradling my Peter Rabbit ragdoll, I carry the lessons of her tales into adulthood. Similar to how I draw upon my childhood influences, Beatrix Potter drew upon hers. Throughout her life, Potter was affected by a multitude of influences which built the foundation for her success; in her teenage years, Potter met Hardwicke Rawnsley who impacted the course of her future achievements. The encounterments that people have in their lives reappear subtly throughout their entire lives as they themselves build upon the progress of the past. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His nature campaign encouraged Potter's love of nature and in turn, he began her future legacy. Following in his fashion, Potter became a conservationist for the countryside. As an adult, her work supported the protection of fields, valleys, and the Herdwick sheep she raised herself. Because of the conservation work done by Rawnsley, Potter was galvanized to begin her own powerful conservational work. She saved traditional and natural practices. Moreover, his influence appears in her scientific work. Potter's affinity for nature, specifically mycology, grew because of Ransley. He encouraged her illustrations and Potter used her artistic skills to depict accurate drawings of fungi that modern scientists continue to reference. His early encounter with Potter impassioned her to blaze her own path in vital conservational and scientific work that others continue to build ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Fantastic Beasts And Where Find Them Trailer Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them Trailer The Harry Potter film series is one of the highest grossing movie franchises of all time. It created a rich universe that is beloved by millions, and a few years ago, the author of Harry Potter announced that there will be a new series of films set several decades prior to the events of Harry Potter. The new film, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, had a lot of expectations to uphold. The purpose of this essay is to provide a rhetorical criticism of one of the trailers for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. First, I will report on the film trailer. Next, I will analyze the trailer 's context relative to the communication model, visual appeal, color foundations, nonverbal communication, and language choices. Finally, I will judge the effectiveness of the messages the trailer was trying to communicate. I chose this artifact as Harry Potter was one of my favorite series growing up, and wished to analyze how the trailer for a film that already has a large established universe behind it, yet still has to find a way to create its own context. To be able to analyze the trailer, the facts of what happened in it first must be reported on. Auer (1981) states that a rhetorical critic has three roles, the first of which being to report on the artifact being critiqued, meaning someone just "reports the facts: [they do] not interpret them or make judgements about them" (p. 2). The trailer used in this analysis opens with a shot ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The More Time You Spend Trying To Find Yourself By... Persuasive Essay "The more time you spend trying to find yourself in the world, you're just losing yourself" Stephanie Pellegrin. Just like the author of "Be Yourself", trying to fit in is what others try to do, finding friends while feeling safe with peers is what others try to find. Others found their rightful place of safety with others finding it hard to fit in with the others being "unique" to find peers with the same hobbies and interest. The following quote expresses how being yourself can express your ideas without having to hide being a shell of insecurity about how others think. Stephanie expresses her ideas to the reader to just be yourself and forget about the opinion of others that would have an impact on their trail of thought in a negative way. In my opinion, life can surely be hard while also being questionable at times, but sometimes you just have to strive through to find the meaning of life. The author communicates to her younger self about how she doesn't have to do everything to just find her place in the school. An advice that would find her way into finding more about herself within the world while not losing herself as a person. Life can be hard due to how Stephanie tried to fit in by joining groups that would find her talent in the school. Stephanie brought up this chance to give advice to her younger self to "Just be yourself." Defining their years as a memorable experience with changing interests in the future like the author's tastes in books like her interest in the Harry Potter series. Stephanie revealed to the reader, she could have spent time with her friends in the lunch room instead of being lonely on multiple occasions. In "Just Be Yourself," the author reveals to the readers the teen self of the author only joined multiple groups just to comprehend her skills and talents to going as far to joining groups she had hated to . Resulting, in a clear hatred for ROTC or Reserve Officers' Training Corps along with nightmares about the fifth position in ballet for both versions of the author. Stephanie Pellegrin was determined with an inquisitive mindset as backfired effects of joining the multiple groups had fueled her will to find herself, but at the cost of lost time in doing ... • 7. What Are The Differences Between Beatrix Kidgo And... "I'd rather regret the things I have done, than regret the things I have not done" Lucille Ball. Two completely different stories, one must say when both movies are held in hand. How can an animated Disney movie and an action film directed by the one and only Quentin Tarantino are related? Both of these films share predominant topics, such as, the love of family; the separation of family; and a strong female lead. "Revenge is a dish best served cold" Old Klingon Proverb. Both movies contain two "unalike" main characters of two "unalike" stories. In Kill Bill, Beatrix Kiddo also known as The Bride or Black Mamba is a woman that lacks mercy, compassion, and forgiveness, but with so much history, and surely she does not lack speediness, steadiness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whether these two characters are heroes or not, is very subjective. A hero can be defined as a person distinguished for bold deeds. Chihiro is a hero for the reason that she lives up to the characteristics of it, since she always looked for the others best. She helped Haku when she thought he was dying, helped No Face, helped the God of the River and helped her parents. She aided all of them with hero–like qualities like patience, hard work, humbleness, gentility, and in a very peaceful way. Nevertheless, Beatrix Kiddo does not accomplish these characteristics, yes, she tried to avenge her daughter's "death", but it was for her own sake, as a payback for the atrocious crime done against her. She achieves her goal in a very different way that Chihiro does, she does it with wrath, fury, rage, violence and madness. Nonetheless, Kiddo has not the characteristics of a villain, but of an antihero. She does have a few hero–like features, such as, courage, audacity, quick thinking and endurance. Foucault 's Assertion That One 's Own Written Response Most Persuasive Assertion Michel Foucault 's assertion that one's own "author– function" can exceed their own work is a claim in which can be backed by an array of existing and deceased author 's. An agreeable claim, even though Foucault attempts to disassemble it later on in the essay. Foucault initially states, "One might say that it is not true that the author of a novel is only the author of his own text; in a sense, he also, provided that he acquires some "importance," governs and commands more than that. To take a very simple example, one could say that Ann Radcliffe not only wrote The Castles of Athlin and Dunbayne and several other novels, but also made possible the appearance of the Gothic horror novel at the ... And the authors are given credit for their contributions to the world of literature not only in founding new genres but crafting new styles and expanding on existing genres/formats. The experimental novels of Dorothy Richardson displayed what would eventually be coined by William James as the stream of conscious narrative form. Religious mythologies around the world crafted the parable, which would later get perfected in the form of Grimm 's fairytales and Aesop 's fables. The thread line of the evolution of literature is there and can be followed to its main contributors. Contributors whose work can easily be defined as something which exceeds their "author–function" as Foucault states it. Such a claim can be broadened out to any art form including that of music and art. Even more contemporary style of storytelling in film and cinema had individuals whose work exceeded their "author–intention" and opened up the doors to new styles, genres, and avenues for aspiring artists to venture forth down. Least Persuasive Assertion Foucault 's claim that the Author is "dead" is solely based off of perspective and how you see an author. His assertion mirrors the philosophical concept fashioned by Nietzsche you was famously quoted for his saying "God is dead,". • 13. Motherhood In Peter The Rabbit Motherhood feeling blooms in each woman's heart. As a little girl, motherhood is practiced through doll as if it is her baby. As a woman grows up, she creates her dreams of being a mother, strong bond, and attachment to this world; she naturally belongs to this hood. Motherhood then becomes waking up in the middle of the night to make sure that her child is well tucked in and to give her full attention, care, and love to a child. It is a harsh world, tiredness and exhaustion sometimes. Through the endless journey, she consumes her real, metal and emotional power and energy for the sake of her own children's comfort and happiness. Strangely, if asking any mother about her life as a mother? She would happily say that being a mom is the most satisfying feeling she has ever had. Most important chore in motherhood trip is to teach a child to grow up, as nothing equals the happiness of a mother when finally, she knows that she raised a successful human being. The Bride played by actress Uma Thurman is really Beatrix Kiddo, but is known as Black Mamba as well as Arlene Machiavelli; her real name is bleeped out during Kill Bill, Volume 1 as she recounts the situation which led her to being in the back of a vehicle in a hospital parking lot with her legs in a state of atrophy whispering, "wiggle your big toe." James Stewart's viewpoint becomes gendered to that of the film's director, Alfred Hitchcock. Hollywood is male dominated, in turn, creating cinema which is more male–friendly. A more recent example of the male gaze is exemplified in the Tomb Raider's main character, Lara Croft. Albeit Lara is a certified heroine who can shoot, move, and communicate alongside or against and even better than most males, she is stunningly beautiful. If one were to ask the cause Lara was fighting for, it is forgettable to most audiences. What becomes memorable aside from her remarkable strength and beauty is that Lara has a bountiful bosom, small waistline, and buxom yet athletic lower torso, long hair and gorgeous face. Her actions are very masculine and she doesn't fit the mold of past Hollywood examples of female leads, but these attributes are what makes her the embodiment of the male gaze. Brown discusses how he felt happy and accepted by most of the children because of his ability to play outdoors and become a part of the childish play with the other children " I was happy . I looked out on the world noticing everything except myself." As a child it seems he was almost unaware that he had a disability that made him different from the other children and by the acceptance of his siblings and his own determination it seems that he did feel like a part of normal society ... The main cast comprises Renée Zellweger, playing the role of Miss Potter; Ewan McGregor in the role of publisher Norman Warne; and Lloyd Owen as Potter's husband. The story unfolds in the 1900s in London, Beatrix Potter, an oldest daughter of a wealthy family. As a child, she always shows a strong enthusiasm for rabbits, and, also, is willing to spend all time both sketching out their pictures and inventing colourful stories going along with them. It can be easily seen in the too formal dialogues engaged in by protagonists throughout the movie, which seemingly were taken from formal letters. For instance, in the scene when Beatrix and her brother send good–night kisses to their parents with "Good night, mother" and "Good night, father", I suppose it is rather funny and bizarre when parents are called father and mother in daily conversation, instead of daddy and mommy. The only reason behind this interesting point of the story, probably, could spring from the traditional culture of English in the old society, which means that people usually keep extremely polite and elicit clever responses to each other in every single conversation. One more fascinating English trait subtly immersed in the movie is the punctuality. To observant viewers, they would discover some amusing situations when Beatrix's mother, Mrs. Helen Potter, keeps grumbling about the being late for an event at the good–night scene and once with "How charming of you to be punctual!" at the welcoming–the–Normans–sister part. Personally, this could be a message the director wants to delicately send through the movie. Likewise, on seeking information of the leading lady, I was apprised that Renée Zellweger who played the role of Miss Potter was American, and her accent in the film was just her imitation. • 23. Compare And Contrast Emma Watson On our everyday, we are surrounded by heroes. A hero is a person who has special abilities in helping others and in thinking about others priorities before their own. Classical heroes are super humans that are brave, that use their abilities to help other, that go on a journey, and in some point of their life they have a revelation about their true identity as a hero. Modern–day heroes are average people, that face challenges and have problems to which people can relate. They don't go on the classical heroes' physical journey; they go on an internal one. They also care about others' problems and are always ready to help. Emma Watson is a perfect example of a hero. She relates to a classical hero because she is brave, she likes helping people that needs her help and she uses her power, influence, to help other people. Emma Watson can also be seen as a hero because she goes on multiple journeys during her life. She relates to a modern–day hero because she started her life as an average person, faces daily challenges, and she helps others. Overall, Emma Watson can be seen as a hero because of several aspects. Even though she lives in the 21st Century, Emma Watson has similarities with a classical hero. First, she is very brave. During her career, a lot of people said bad things about her, and she had to be brave to deal with these commentaries. In 2011, for example, when she ended filming the ... In the story Ged went in to a coma when the monster claws his face off. I can relate this to the world because a lot of kids who go to school often hurt themselves with injuries and will have to miss out on school and they might not be the same again. This can even relate in professional sports as a player for the Chicago Bulls of the NBA named Derrick Rose had multiple knee injuries which did not let him play for a long time and now he can never live up to the outstanding player he was in his younger days. For example, Ged had to miss out on school as he healed slowly and he missed out on a lot of things at wizard school. After the coma the kids don't even recognize him and leave him alone as before the coma they used to bother him. An example of a real world situation of this is when a friend of mine broke his wrist and had to miss out on a lot and it was just too hard to catch up as he ended up struggling a lot till he got back on track and this is the same thing that happened to Ged. Text to Self Connection: A connection that I can make to myself is when Ged meats a really mean kid named Jasper and Ged thinks Jasper is mocking him so he acts rood back. Rowling has long been lauded for her inventive implementation of underlying complexities within the Harry Potter series. Further analyzation reveals how, through magical and metaphorical racial themes, she also evaluates contemporary and historical racial ideologies outside of the wizarding world. The series perpetrates antiquated racial constructs with no hint of satire on the surface. However, she takes advantage of the readers ' willing suspension of disbelief, effectively penetrating psychological defences, in order to offer contradictory examinations explicitly encompassing race–related issues. As opposed to dealing specifically with skin colour and nationality, Rowling safely explores under the guise of magical species and blood purity. Per contra, the conversely related metaphorical and literal interpretations are complementary; the metaphorical elements create a deeper layer of insight into the Eurocentrism than a surface observation would provide. Regarding the literal and modern perception of racial prejudice, J. K. Rowling presents a universe ostensibly void of racial tension and unrestrained by "constrictive" ethnic identity (Lyubansky 2). Though multiple minorities are featured in the novels and film adaptations, race is made irrelevant and never acknowledged by the characters. The mainly neoconservative racial ideology Rowling adopts for the books assumes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. Voldemort From The Context Of The Bhagavad Gita Analysis Iniquitous: Voldemort from the Context of the Bhagavad Gita What is good? What is evil? We cannot concretely define these words because of the grey area both definitions possess. According to the Oxford Dictionaries, "possessing or displaying moral virtue" (Oxford1) quantifies as good, but what are "moral virtue(s)" exactly? A definition could vary significantly depending on who you ask. I would consider giving a friend the answers to the homework if they have had a rough week moral. As a friend, I would do what I could to lighten their load. But someone else could consider it cheating and ethically wrong because I am letting my friend take credit for my work. In their eyes, I would be considered as "profoundly immoral," (Oxford2) Oxford's definition of evil. Defining such words can be psychologically straining, especially when society places constant pressure on people to act a certain way to look good in everyone's eyes and avoid being ostracized by those people. But wanting to please every person and receive their approval turns into unobtainable expectations. Although evil has an ambiguous definition, a certain type of evil prevails no matter the circumstance. One specific fictional character fits the criteria for evil, Tom Riddle. Riddle, also known as Voldemort, has copious amounts of people's blood on his hands, from his father to James and Lily Potter. His actions would directly align with Oxford's definition of evil: "profoundly immoral" and "wicked." (Oxford2) In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Being an only child, we would watch movies together all the time. It became a tradition to watch movies together, whether they are Disney movies or some random film that no one's ever heard of before that my dad found on TV. The film industry has always been a gateway to another world for me, and I have always enjoyed sitting down by myself or with a group of people and watching a good movie. The movies The Sound of Music, High School Musical, and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone have all had a significant impact on my life and most accurately describe who I am today. When I was younger, I used to watch The Sound of Music all the time. My mom has always loved that movie, and we constantly used to watch it in music class at my school. Watching it over and over again finally made me fall in love with it. The Sound of Music, for me, was a way for me to escape and just listen to Julie Andrews' voice. I loved the soundtrack so much, my favorite track being "My Favorite Things," and the music helped me develop my strong love for music that I have now. Throughout my life, I have been member of a church choir, and I was in show choir from the fifth grade until the ninth grade. The Basilisk is the monster in Harry's second annual death–courting in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. A Freudian analysis sees the battle between Harry and the Basilisk as a sublimation of the Oedipal Complex. This has been recognized in books such as Classical Myths and Films in the New Millennium. Jungians also see other archetypes in play around Harry and snakes. However, the Basilisk was not just another of Harry's trials. The Basilisk imparted much more in Harry's fulfillment of his story. Harry Potter is almost a trope for Oedipal. Harry has often and clearly been diagnosed with the Oedipal complex. The elements are similarly often and clearly portrayed throughout the series. Lily's undying love saves Harry through her own death. It is a transcendent love for her son. Voldemort had imparted part of his soul onto Harry, which is pivotal to his defeat. Voldemort is a part progenitor that Harry kills. Even his wife Ginny is portrayed with semblances of Harry's mother. In accordance to Freudian Theory of Eros–Thanatos, the libido is unable to satisfy the Life Drive, therefore the Death Drive becomes dominant. Harry kills the forbearer that prevents him from relations with his mother. Then sublimates that continued frustration with marriage and career. Platform 9 ¾, an integral location within the Harry Potter series by JK Rowling, provides the focus for the final third of this chapter. Initially, I analyse the site as a barrier to the tourist, before considering its nature as a collectively read text, and finally I discuss the platform as a disregarded location within the Harry Potter series. Located within the concourse of King 's Cross station, a space which sees a footfall of approximately 48 million individuals per year (Network Rail, n.d.), Platform 9 ¾ is one of the most visible literary spaces within the United Kingdom, with replicas of the platform existing internationally in sites as diverse as The Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park in Orlando, Florida through to the public railway station in Wellington, New Zealand. Driven by the perpetual success of the Harry Potter series across a range of diverse media, these worldwide representations of the platform offer tourists the opportunity to experience a simulacrum of the platform at King 's Cross, a site embodied with a primacy of location. This primacy, led through the primary evidence of the texts and the visual authority providing by the locations used in the film, seems set to continue upon the imminent cinematic release of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016) and the two part play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (2016). Everybody reads, but once they reach that final page, do they feel an indifference, or do they feel a personal connection? From early childhood to young adulthood, reading has always been a part of my life. Reading had always been important to me because as a child, I was very shy, and being an only child, I had a lot of time on my own, so I often turned to books to fuel my urge for adventure. Reading became personal to me at a very young age because I read as if I was living in the book myself. Ever since that point in my life, my joy of reading continued to flourish. The pages of my books grew thicker and thicker as I aged, and the genres broadened and the vocabulary matured. Literature has played a meaningful role in my life since the very beginning and helped shape me into the kind of person I am today, it has influenced my personality directly, and the close relationship I hold with literature. If we are going to be reflecting on the impact literature has had on me as a person, it would make the most logical sense to rewind all the way back to the earliest point of reading in my life. Contemporary publishers are not making that distinction any easier; for example, Maurice Sendak's Outside Over There (1981) was published as a picture book for both children and adults, and J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter series is available in adult and children's versions with the only difference being the book's cover art. While folk and Fairy Tales were not originally intended for children, they have become a staple of children's literature since the early nineteenth century. On the other hand, many books written for and widely read by children during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries are considered historical children's literature today and are read almost exclusively by adult scholars of children's literature. Children's literature has been written, illustrated, published, marketed, and purchased consistently by adults to be given to children for their edification and entertainment. Beatrix Potters, The Tale of Peter Rabbit (1902), is a classic example of how illustrations help create story using a visual deception of what is happening within the story, and expand the use of text to add to the overall plot. Illustrations have more to them than just making the page look pretty; they educate and develop the imagination of young readers, but are also there for the enjoyment and understanding of the story. On an educational level, the connection of illustration to the child reader still remain little understood, as Fang (1996) explains 'The relation of pictures to stories and the nature of the readers interaction with both are an important aspect of literacy too little regarded and even less understood'. From the image, we can see Peter at the back of the room, looking willingly at his sisters, with a vision of envy. Published in 2005, the series has since grown to include multiple spin–off series, many of which tie back in to the Olympian series. Many of the readers of Harry Potter would also be interested in this series, as it also involves magic, previously unknown parentage, and adventure. It differs from the Harry Potter series however, in that it is written all from Percy Jackson's point of view. This right away is going to make the film version of the book completely different. The book starts with Percy talking to the reader: "Look, I didn't want to be a half–blood. If you're reading this because you think you might be one, my advice is: close this book right now. Believe whatever lie your mom or dad told you about your birth and try to lead a normal life. Being a half–blood is dangerous. It's scary. Most of the time, it gets you killed in painful, nasty ways" (Riordan, p.1). Percy is not just talking to himself or thinking, he is talking to the real world knowing someone is reading a book. I am writing to share with you the work I have completed during the Spring 2015 semester in Mrs. Miller's Engl 112 Dual Enrollment College Composition II course at Brooke Point High School. Continuing our work from the first semester, this course emphasized research and argumentative writing for both the social sciences and the humanities, and a very challenging multi–genre project on a topic of our choice. Mrs. Miller encouraged us to strengthen our research skills through the use of annotated bibliographies developed from using readings from our textbook (Graff 2008), and online research databases available through the Germanna Community College Library website, including Opposing Views in Context. I also used Academic Search Complete ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This assignment asked students to construct a summary and to synthesize a response to the various points of view included in the readings. I selected the chapter that addressed the value of a college education. Writing effective and analytical summaries is always a challenge, but as I worked on the assignment I could see how this process is really important to developing an argument in objective terms. In other words, deciding what I thought about a topic and then finding research to support my ideas is not an effective way to complete good research. Instead, good research consists of looking a variety of opinions and then drawing conclusions about what arguments were most compelling. Moreover, using APA style forced me to look closely at the timeliness of the different essays and to consider how opinions shift over time. The second project assigned consisted of developing the information we synthesized from our first project into our own argument. I had originally planned to write about the value of a liberal arts education because that is the model I have always expected to follow, but after completing my preliminary reading I realized that the exploitation of students by for–profit colleges was more compelling to me. The process of drafting the essay was simplified because I had a clear understanding of the larger issues involved, but making sure the essay was properly structured as an ... • 60. Hr Giger Research Paper There are two artists from distinct eras, who have made a profound impact on the world of illustration. One artist is a contemporary icon known for his success within the movie industry with his creations used in the 1980s Oscar winning movie, Alien (HR Giger). H.R. Giger was born in Chur, Switzerland in 1940. Though he studied architecture and industrial design, he became one of the most famous surrealist artists concentrating on works of fantastic realism (HR Giger). The other artist used her illustrations to bring children's literature to mainstream society in the early 1900s: Helen Beatrix Potter. Born on July 28, 1866 in Kensington, London, Potter was a self–taught illustrator, who found recognition and success within a male dominated society (Beatrix Potter). ... H.R.Giger's illustrations are considered gothic with a twist of the cosmic supernatural. Best known for his book, Necronomicon, he published in 1977, Giger quickly rose to attention. This book is a collection of images with his most recognized being depictions of aliens in a "surrealistic biochemical dreamscape" (HR Giger). These representations caught the eye of Hollywood director Ridley Scott, who based his horror movie, Alien, upon Giger's creations. This movie would be awarded the 1980s Oscar for the Best Achievement in Visual Effects for title character, stages of life cycle and environment (HR Giger). As an artist, Giger's strongest illustration characteristic is artistic technique. Using ink, oils and airbrushing, Giger's compositions are bold with the use of all available space filled with imaginative details, depth and/ or patterns. In Necronom V, Giger depicts an alien, which became an iconic figure fulfilling the illustrator's characteristic of the use of the Powers of Observation (Giger, H.R. "Necronom V ... • 66. How Has Beatrix Potter Changed Over Time It is unusual for me to watch a biopic movie due to my misconception of its unattractive features such as boring, monotonous, predictable. However, it seems that everything has changed dramatically since I watched "Miss Potter" – a movie based on true story of a well–known English children's book author– Beatrix Potter. Miss Potter tells the story life of Beatrix Potter – an art young women who possessed a creative imagination at her early age. Born in a British upper–class family, Beatrix did not desire a confining arranged marriage like other women but spent most of the time to dip into her dreamy imaginary world with a myriad of lovely "animal" friends such as Peter Rabbit, Nutkin Squirrel, and Tittlemouse. Besides a great moving story, "Miss Potter" revealed us a corner of British culture. In 19th century in Britain, the social division was depicted vividly through the ball, beautiful dress and especially arranged married. It was the social gap that was a major obstacle separating Beatrix and Norman's love. Most characteristics of Britain reappeared with the breath–taking beauty of Lake District and idyllic rural splendor which was a perfect infinite inspiration for Beatrix to create incredible stories. I hold a strong belief that her creativity derived from deep nature love– an outstanding feature of British. • 68. Comparing Jesus Christ and Harry Potter as Heroes Essay If there are two names that can be recognized anywhere in the world, one would definitely be Harry Potter, and the other would surely be Jesus Christ. On one hand, Harry Potter is known as the protagonist of the best–selling Harry Potter book series, which was written by JK Rowling. He is a boy wizard who encountered many different trials and tribulations during his stay in the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The seven books have been read by millions of children and adults all over the world, and its popularity was evident when four books in the series were on the New York Times bestseller list all at the same time (Brown 32). On the other hand, Jesus Christ is one of the main religious figures of Christianity, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... King Herod ordered the deaths of all baby boys in Bethlehem because of the prophecy that someone would overthrow his oppressive rule. In order to save Jesus' life, his parents fled and brought him to Egypt. (Murphy 28). In the story of Harry Potter, the dark wizard Voldemort attempted to kill the one–year old Harry Potter because "a boy of Harry's description was prophesied before his birth to be the coming vanquisher of the dark lord." (Granger 72) However, his mother saved his life and a magical protection was put upon him, which came from the so–called power of love (Brown 58). The second conflict that both Jesus Christ and Harry Potter faced was that they were the savior– figures in their stories. Malone (57) defined a savior–figure as someone who "can and does suffer, but the meaning of the figure is more in leadership, in rescuing and saving, in helping fellow human beings to a destiny that images paradise." This was precisely the duty of both Harry Potter and Jesus Christ. They had to better the worlds that they lived in, and to do that, they had to suffer. In their case, they had to sacrifice their lives. The Romans thought that Jesus was a blasphemer who was using God's name to spread his own false messages (Bredin 190) and ended up having to crucify him. This crucifixion was all part of God's plan, and through this action, Jesus ended up ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 72. The Fringe Benefits Of Failure, And The Importance Of Speech Nearly all writing exhibits rhetorical elements to convey the writer's message in a meaningful way. These techniques assist the readers in connecting with the author to fully understand the message and can also be used by the writer to influence the audience to feel a certain way about a topic. As Doug Downs said, "Some people learn to be rhetorical experts who can take those underlying principles shaping human interaction and finesse them in specific activities," (460,1).Using rhetorical elements to appeal to an audience's emotions have always been a foolproof way for urging people to pay attention to what you have to say and is almost the most persuasive technique. However, many other rhetorical techniques can also be used to prompt an audience to really adhere to what the writer is trying to convey. Such devices are beautifully displayed in J.K. Rowling's commencement speech, "The Fringe Benefits of Failure, and the Importance of Imagination", to Harvard University's 2008 graduates and in George Saunders' speech, "Congratulations, by the Way", to the Syracuse University 2013 graduates. J.K. Rowling and George Saunders use many rhetorical elements in their speeches, such as identification, motivational aspects, and the use of story–telling to gracefully convey their personal experiences and wisdom to the audience of young adults. Both speeches were influential and powerful; However, I feel as though J.K. Rowling's speech was more effective in terms of delivery, because of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 74. Examples Of Transmedia Storytelling In The Harry Potter... Back in 2003 Henry Jenkins caused a massive stir in the media world when he introduced the idea of transmedia storytelling. Jenkins describes it as a process where elements of fiction are dispersed across multiple media platforms in order to serve the purpose of creating a coordinated entertainment experience. Jenkins goes on to say that preferably, each medium will contribute different aspects which will assist in the telling of a story and unveil new aspects. However a good transmedia text does not simply supply information, instead it allows the fans, or fandom, to interact with the world within the text (Jenkins, 2007). This essay will argue that transmedia storytelling impacts on how the audience interacts with the story, in order to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If we are watching a film on the television we may be scrolling through social media sites at the same time but the problem has emerged that stories don't follow that (Humphrey, 2011). An unnamed screenwriter once said that "When I first started you would pitch a story because without a good story, you didn't really have a film. Later, once sequels started to take off, you pitched a character because a good character could support multiple stories. And now, you pitch a world because a world can support multiple characters and multiple stories across multiple media." (Jenkins, 2006) Modern stories have been developed so that they have the ability to become transmedia stories, compared to older stories where they alone were enough to entertain the audience. Some older films have struggled to adapt into this new transmedia era, while others fit into this area perfectly and now provide us with some of the best examples of transmedia storytelling, one such example is The Lord of the Rings series, by J.R.R. Tolkien. The journey in Middle Earth, the world where the series is set, began in 1937 when Tolkien released "The Hobbit", and ran until 1955. Multiple attempts were made in this time to make the books into films but Tolkien believed that the technology didn't exist to do them justice. • 76. Commodity Fetishism In Harry Potter By Turner-Vorbeck "The fundamental implication at work here is that their needs be nothing aesthetically valuable or unique about that upon which an imposed phenomena is generated. Is it something special about the Harry Potter books that has caused such a sensation or is the sensation artificially manufactured and simply centered around them? An understanding of commodity fetishism supports the latter position. If the Harry Potter books were, indeed, worthy of such widespread adulation, then the support for them would have naturally risen up from the readers rather than being pushed down upon them by mass media marketing" (Turner–Vorbeck, 8) I noticed that here Turner–Vorbeck is assuming who her audience is by the language that she is using. To me, the words and phrases that she uses indicate that she assumes that academics are the only ones who are going to be reading her essay. Her language is not inherently difficult to understand, it's not something I could envision seeing in a newspaper or magazine where millions of everyday people would read it. I also noted that in this particular passage Turner–Vorbeck uses a rhetorical question, the question being "Is it something special about the Harry Potter books that has caused a sensation or is the sensation artificially manufactured and simply centered around them?" (Turner–Vorbeck, 8). While she knows we as the readers will not have an answer to that question, she uses this to set up her next claim: that the Harry Potter books are not good ...
