instruments.
Cordillera people are known to be nature lovers. They appreciate the beauty of nature and create artistic expressions through songs, dances and ither art forms. Their music also plays a big part in the day to day activities of the people.
The indigenous musical instruments of the Cordillera people play a very important role in their different rites, ceremonies and traditions. They are made from various materials such as metals, bamboo, sticks ,wood and animal skin.
And this is how they play the Gangsa toppaya and gangsa palook
In toppaya style the musicians play the surface of the gangsa with their hands while in a sitting position
While the gangsa palook is beaten with wodden mallets while held by the left hand. And this are usually played by men of the tribe.
Because of it s tube like form our ancestors were able to invent different musical instruments that can produce melody or rhytmical patterns.
Here are the different kinds of musical instruments made of bamboo
Use by the Tinguuians. Also known as bamboo buzzer, this is played by striking the open end of the bamboo against the palm of the hand.
Isntrument consisting of five or more bamboo pipes fixed together. It is played by blowing air into the reeds as it is moved from side to side.
It ispopulary known as the “jaw’s harp”
This instrument is cut into variety of lengths and is played by striking the base of the instrument against a hard surface like a stone, cement or flooring. It can be played with alternate rhthym and can be used as accompaniment to the chanting while dancing.
This bamboo zither instrument has 6-10 parallel strings. It is played by plucking the strings of the zither.
Is a hollowed wooden drum covered with pig or lizard skin. Its sound is produced by hitting the drum with the palm of the hand.
