Before completely deciding the entire plot and characters of our
trailer I decided to research other films which have similar genres
and storylines.

2. Taken (2008)
The film is of a hybrid genre and mixes elements from Crime,
Thriller and Action films.
Taken follows a retired CIA agent (played by Liam Neeson) as
he travels across Europe and relies on his old skills to save his
estranged daughter, who was kidnapped on a trip to Paris to
be sold into prostitution.
Taken is similar to our own initial idea as it shows the
protagonist on a journey to save someone who is important
to him.
Reviews of this film were positive branding it a ‘must see’ and
commenting that Liam Neeson provided a ‘thrilling
performance.’

3. In Time (2011)
In Time is film which incorporates a hybrid genre of Sci-fi,
Action and Thriller.
In Time is based in the future where time has become
the ultimate currency. You stop aging at 25, but you're
genetically-engineered to live only one more year, unless
you can buy your way out of it. The rich "earn" decades
at a time, becoming essentially immortal, while the rest
beg, borrow or steal enough hours to make it through
the day.
According to reviewers the film was highly anticipated
and the concept is’ extremely unique and innovative’ but
it was the screen-play and performance which let it
down.

4. Obsessed (2009) Obsessed is a Drama, Thriller starring Beyonce Knowles.
Obsessed follows the life of a successful asset manager
(Idris Elba) who has just received a huge promotion. He is
blissfully happy in his career and in his marriage. But when
a temp worker starts stalking him, all the things he's
worked so hard for are placed in jeopardy.
The movie received very bad reviews and was described
as ‘cliché’ and ‘predictable.’ Reviewers also commented
that ‘the pace never changes’. The performance was
described as mediocre and characters were unbelievable.
Obsessed is similar to our idea as it contains a woman
with a strong personality who ‘calls the shots’ within the
relationship.

5. Enough (2002)
Enough is a Drama Thriller, similar to Obsessed, starring
Jennifer Lopez.
Enough is about an abused woman who discovers that
the dream man she married isn't who she thought he
was. She and her daughter try to escape), but he
pursues her relentlessly. Fearing also for the safety of
her daughter, she decides that there's only one way out
of the marriage: kill him.
The movie had varied reviews, with some people
commenting that it was a ‘rip-off’ of ‘Sleeping With The
Enemy.’ Whilst others described it as extremely ‘tense’
and ‘enjoyable’.

6. Protagonists
These are images of the protagonists
from the films that I looked at on the
previous slides. All the films that I
looked at fall under the similar
Action/Thriller/Drama genre in which
we would like to base our final idea for
our film on. By looking at the images it
shows that the main characters don’t
generally fall under a specific
specification and they don’t have to
look a certain way. The characters are
stereotypically good looking (the
women in particular) however this is
most likely to change throughout
different parts of the film.
This shows that the person chosen for
our film doesn’t have to have a
particular look in order to produce a
convincing performance.

Taken (2008) –
All of the films have age restrictions which
only allow people aged 12+ (at least) to
view the films. This is because the films
In Time (2011) – contain themes which are deemed
inappropriate for younger audiences. Our
film will have to adopt similar age
restrictions depending on the seriousness of
the subject matters which we will explore.

After looking at films similar to our initial ideas I have now up with a clearer idea of how I would
like our own film to be like. I have a much clearer idea of the types of main characters that
would be suitable to act in the film.
The target audience of the film must fall under the age range of at least 12+ as the film will be
based around some very extreme ideas.
I now have a much broader understanding of how well the film will do after looking at financial
details (see table above) and it seems as though the release date of the film has no direct
correlation of how well the film will do.
