3. How does the film use, develop or challenge
conventions of the genre?
The hunger games uses the conventions of genre by
introducing the main characters, Katniss and Gale in the
beginning and establishing the setting of the film which is
the forest.
It also introduces the main prop which is the bow and
arrow to hook the audience into watching the film this also
challenges the conventions of an adventure film because
most of the time there's weapons involved such as guns
whereas here its not.
4. Structure
The film starts off calmly introducing the characters and setting
and then starts to build up as soon as the reaping starts off
which then it escalates. The adventure part is shown to the
audience as soon as the characters enter the games which builds
up the tension.
Throughout the film there is links to science fiction through
showing the audience the technology used to control the games
which is impossible in real life. The ending to the film is
unpredictable and grips the audience through the props which is
the berries that can end a persons life but in the end both the
characters stay alive.

Her character is very heroic and protective which is also shown from
the beginning to the end of the film such as her volunteering as a
tribute for her sister and looking after a young tribute in the arena,

He is well known for his charisma and remarkable speaking ability
which is shown in when he is being interviewed on live television
before the hunger games.
He is caring as he always comforts katniss when she has nightmares
and is willing to die for her in the arena.

Mise-en-scene: The residents of the capitol wear bright and
extravagant clothes reflecting their personalities and lifestyle. This is in
contrast with residents of the districts who wear old and dull coloured
clothes reflecting their mood and lifestyle.
Cinematography: There are a lot of point of view shots which makes
us feel as though we are there which instils fear in the audience. There
are low angles shots used when the camera shows the head game
keeper to make him look powerful and superior.
Editing: There are a lot of fast paced editing to create tension and
feeling of chaos to show so much going on.
There is also eye-line match for example when katniss is looking at
something then it cuts to what she is looking at which makes us see
through her eyes and feel like were part of the game.
