1. RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN LYRICS
AND VISUALS
“Do we chase the rabbit into wonder
land”.
The lyrics claim “Do we chase the rabbit into wonderland” and instantly we
see a person dressed up as a rabbit going towards a wood with lights and a
party/festival atmosphere which could be considered as “wonderland”.
Without seeing the video we would assume that the lyrics are a metaphor
however they have brought this simple idea to life and used within the video.
“Don’t need sleeping beauty”
2. As we hear this it cuts to a long shot of a young girl sleeping in the position as
the Disney character has been portrayed.
RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MUSIC AND
VISUALS
MUSIC AND VISUALS…
As the music becomes upbeat you see a group of friends dancing to the pace
of the music, this is reflected very well as when the music increases it goes
from a long shot to a zoom with a medium shot of the friends dancing. The
relationship between the music and visuals works very well in the case.
3. Particular music genres have their own music video style and
iconography
Indie Genre- Black and white
shots are very stereotypical and
the establishing shot is of the
male artist in skinny jeans in
black and white.
Within the indie genre, it is very iconic for people to have masks on, the
reason for this I am not sure however from my research I have realised that
there have been many, this adds to the indie definition and uniqueness.
In many music videos there are scenes within a forest with parties going on,
this is a very iconic and stereotypical representation of indie people enjoying
themselves, as you can see is someone dressed with a horse mask and
rabbit, this is very similar to “foals- Airways”.
Mise-en-scene- we know its an indie genre due to the males clothing, no shirt,
tattoo up his arm, beanie hat and skinny jeans which is very stereotypical and
easily recognisable.
4. Close ups
The above screen grabs represent Andrew Goodwin’s theory very well. The
demand on the part of the record company wants lots of close ups of the main
artist to promote his image, this also links in with the notion of looking. There
5. are many shots within the video that cut to him singing within a close up which
creates emphasis on the artist himself.
