collection code call number no order

7. Open Excel spreadsheet; Go back to Aleph; Mouse click inside “General
Retrieval Form”; Ctrl-A (select all); Ctrl-C (copy); Go back to Excel; Ctrl-V (Paste)

8. In Excel format the barcode column into a number column; Highlight
“barcode” column; Format menu; Format Cells; Number; “0” decimals;

9. Before the call number column can be sorted, the “Media Books” must be
removed; Highlight entire spreadsheet; “Find & Select”; “Replace”

10. Leave the “replace with” area blank; mouse click on the “options” button

11. Must have “Search by columns”; “Replace all”

12. “media Books” is now gone from each call number column; ta-da

13. Highlight all spreadsheet columns; sort & filter; custom sort

14. Choose call number; OK

15. It is not a perfect world; as you can see at the bottom of the list; there are some things
out of order; the choice is either to do nothing or analyze to see if a quick change can
be made that would effect the sort; Here it might be the space between the $$h and
the $$i (cutter)

16. After removing the extra space and re-sorting the bottom few are still out of order;
closer inspection reveals a call number item without a title; one could insert the extra
items into the list in order or leave them; in this case I would leave them; something
else might be happening; IT IS NOT A PERFECT WORLD
