3. CAMERA
• At the very beginning of the opening sequence there is an establishing shot. This is a
wide shot in which allows the audience to see where the scene is set. In this case there
was an establishing shot of London looking out of the hospital bed. From here the camera
zooms out turning into an over the shoulder shot. By doing this it is giving the audience
prospective as this character. It could be argued that the establishing shot was also a
point of view which sympathizes us as an audience with this character. From here the
camera continues to zoom out and moves position giving the audience a two shot. It
shows the difference in power in both characters. The male talking gets high angle shots
making us look up at him showing his power and status, while his brother gets low angle
shots showing his weakness and imminent death.
4. EDITING
• There was the use of a transition. This was used when the man walking out of the hospital
got to his car. The camera turns into a crane and tilts up to the sky vertically. The camera
then rolls back which then transitions into a different scene and country entirely. When
this happens we are introduced to a new character as well. By doing this it shows the
difference in the two characters, highlighting the status of each character. The character
in London is an obvious villain where everyone is scared of him. The other character is by
himself showing that maybe he doesn't’t have friends or likes to be alone.
5. SOUND
• Dialogue was key throughout this opening sequence. It displayed the power throughout
the opening sequence. An example of this was when the male character said to his
brother on the hospital bed “I knew you would end up like this, even after everything I
taught you”. “Anything happens, ill come looking for you”. This shows clear power
between the two. He acts like he was the teacher and the one to teach his brother
everything he knew. This shows power as the older brother foreshadowed his younger
brother fate as well as teaching him everything he knew.
6. MISE EN SCENE
• There was the use of make up on the younger brother. This also showed power between
the two brothers. The younger brother has make up all over his chest and face showing
burn marks. The make up is used for affect. This made the younger brother look
defenseless and weak while he laid in his hospital bed. The make up showed the
audience that the younger brother must have been involved in a fire or fight. There is a
clear difference in the two brothers. The older brother has no make up where as the
younger brother does showing his power loss and weakness in comparison to the older
brother.
