2. Schedule
■ Week 1 - to start I will do my logo. I think this will e the best to start with so I can then use
this to influence the rest of my work on the same colours and also the design of the logo.
To start doing this I will look into other brands and what they have done. I will then try to
make my own maybe using someone's idea as inspiration for mine.
■ Week 2 – in week 2 I hope I will have my logo done or close to being done. I think if it is
nearly done I will finish it In the first lesson but if it is far off I will wait until late on in the
week. I have looked at some posters so I think I will just need to do a mood board as I have
some ideas.Therefor I think I will have some more time to finish my logo or make some t-
shirts that can be warn by people trying to promote the event
■ Week 3 - in week 3 I would like to make a website front page for Stoptober. I think I will try
to use some of the things in the original but make it more clear, easy to use and look nicer.
■ Week 4 – I hope to use the last week to improve the work that I have done. I think this can
be used for my final project but if not I will use it to work on some work I have done before
this.
3. What I will need
■ Firstly I will need a PC and Photoshop and InDesign this is what I will be doing all of my
final work on.
■ I will also need to use the internet to get my images for my mood board and also to
use bubl.us if I use any mind maps.
5. Logo analysis
■ Looking at all of the logos I can see they all use text as the base for the logo and this is an
easy way to show what the logo is and what it Is trying to show. I think this is good at the
start but when you get well know it is nice to have a logo that can be recognized right
away. Some examples of this are Apple, Nike or Adidas. If you see there logo you know
what it is right away and I think at the start having the name is key as people don’t know
what it is but over time.
■ They are all very simple logos and don’t have many graphics in them.There are a few
trends in the logos. Some are the colors like the blue and red that are the same. I think the
red is to represent a stop sign and for the blue it looks good with the red.
■ As well as the colours they also have a cigarette on them. I would like to put something to
do with a cigarette in my logo and try to put the weighting in it or something like that I also
think that I can put things that might represent a cigarette without not putting an actual
one on. I can also do this as the name is well known for stopping smoking.
6. Ideas for my logo
■ I think that my logo I will have the words on it in some was.As well as this I would like
to have some reference to a cigarette so when people look at the logo they know what
it is.
■ I will put the name on it so that people know what it is and also as it is a well known
name and also it is associated with the NHS and it is a well respected as a scheme and I
need to take advantage of this and use it in the rebrand so people trust the brand.
■ I like the idea of having the the Stoptober in a thick font as the end of the cigarette
with a red end as if it was burning down. I was trying to make it so I can show that it is
burning your life away. I don't know if I can do both and I might need to have it for my
poster or other things.
8. What I changed through production.
■ I had a lot of things to change. I started with the idea and I had to pick a good font to
make it work. I picked Impact as it was a thick font so you can the red to grey fade on
it.This is ment to be like a lit cigarette.
■ I changed the lettering to capitals to make them all the same height and also to make
more of the lettering colored and also so you can see the burning end.
■ I also had to change the colour of the brown/orange colour. I did this to make it look
like the ones in the poster to keep it consistent.
■ I also wanted to make the colour of the text the same as on the poster.There is one big
issue with this which is you can't see it on a white background so I will have to ether
change this or put a background.
10. Poster analysis
■ From looking at the posters there are a few things that are in a lot of them. One thing
is they have cigarettes in them and they also use shocking stats to try and scare the
people who read them. Although they have the shocking things they are often not
looked at by smokers even when it in on the packet right in front of them.
■ I also can see that a lot of the posters have numbers for support.This is because it is
very hard to do it alone if you are addicted. As well as being supportive they also make
it seen like the smokers family's are suffering by smoking.
■ They use darker colours as well as green and orange.This can be for a verity or reasons
like wanting it to stand out and also making the letters and colours of photos stand
out.
11. Poster ideas
■ My first ideas where to have a stair of cigarettes going down to a grave and putting stats on
each of them. I was also thinking about putting a family without that person on top of the
stairs and a cut out of them of them.
■ I could also have a photo of the effects and have some of the stats on it to try and scare
people who look at the poster.
■ For the bus one I will have to change toe look but I think I will need to keep the same colour
schemes and have the logo in it.This can make it so people will know the brand right away
and also know the link to an official brand and also the NHS.
■ I will put the logo and also the NHS logo on all of the posters I make this is because there
will be a lot of people who will trust this and this will take the advice more seriously.
■ Another idea is to have a cigarette burning down like the smokers life is. I can also use
money on it as well as this is another negative of smoking.
13. What I will look to improve in my poster.
■ I think for my poster I need to make the coffin more clear.To do this I think I should
make the steps at different levels this would make it a clearer drop into the coffin.
■ I could also change the font to make it look a bit more official and maybe have a
harder font. I can also change the colour as well.
■ I think I need to also change the man making it a lot more clear or make him not there.
■ I also think I should change the background colour and try to make it lighter and see
how this goes. I will do this because I think the poster looks a bit to dark and I want it
to look lighter and therefor it should be more positive.
15. Bus Poster ideas.
■ For the bus poster It will be hard to make a poster that is in the same style as the A3 poster.This is because it
is a very different place. I think for my first idea I will have a man walking up the middle and then at the top
there is a sign and on one side a dark forest/marsh and on the other side a nice park with the sun out. I will
have the tree trunks as cigarettes and this will hopefully get the message out that they are not good. I will
also make it so that the guy has a choice when he is at the top of the stairs.
■ Another idea that I have is a kind of obstacle in the way of stopping him getting into the clear I have 2 ideas
from this.With one being where there is a guy on a escalator down the middle and he cant get to the top as
he is out of breath or there are cigarettes rolling down the middle. As well as this I can do it so that the man
was at the top and there are 2 packs of cigarettes closing in and there is a big gap in the middle that he is
trying to not fall down. I could also have it so that he has to make the jump across the gap also an make it to
try and stop addiction. I think as the top bit is long on one side and then short on the right. I think because of
this I will do the second one because I can just put the darkness down theT and then the light from the right.
And the guy trying to push the packet back as he is near the edge.
■ I will be sure I have the logos and other things like phone numbers, slogans and encouragement for
stopping.
16. Bus poster.
this is the first idea for my poster and I think that it turned out
well. I think if I did another poster I would try to make it so I have
some more room to make the text bigger and also make it so it
has a lot other things on it like the website address, a longer
slogan or that you can give them advice.This will make it easier
for people looking at the poster to contact the NHS and also the
Stoptober website. I think this would be a good idea because the
idea of the posters is to attract people to the places where they
can get help for stopping. I like how I was able to use the shape of
the poster to make my design around. If I where to do a different
design I would also try and use the shape of the poster to
influence my idea.
18. Merchandise
■ I don’t think I will do an merch for people to buy. If I was going to make anything I
would do it for people to ware if there is an event and they are volunteering or helping
out. I think I will keep them simple and also have all of the things like the logo and the
NHS logo on them. I think this will work better than a more complex design.This is
because it makes it a lot more easy to understand what it is and also you know what it
is about right away.
19. Other things I can do and change to stop
smoking.
■ I think there are more things that I can do and some of the things that I can do include more posters, a
side bus poster or event posters with a lot of information and ways to contact Stoptober.
■ As well as this it would be good for event at places like schools, unis or colleges. I think this is a key
area as they are the next generation of smokers and therefor will be costing the NHs money trying to
deal with the issues they will have in the future.This is why I think there should be a big focus on the
age group of 14-20.
■ As well as doing things like having posters about there also should be things to try and restrict the
areas where smoking can take place. An example of this asYork college would be restricting the
smoking area at the front of the college.There are a large range if issues that this area causes with
some being it encourages smoking with friends if you happen to see some people you know on the
way out of college, people who are walking it college don’t want to have to be around smokers and
having to passively smoke and it is an easy place for smokers to get to where if it was further away
this would make people less likely to want to smoke I think.
■ I think for the main aims of the Stoptober campaign they should be changed from stopping people
who are smoking to spending more time on preventing.This will make Stoptober the actual event not
needed and will hopefully stop a lot of the smoking in younger ages.
