2. CONTINUITY
• We wanted to keep continuity between all three media products and kept the
melancholy feel, of the title track, constant so that the theme didn’t juxtapose and
confuse our audience. Throughout the production of our three media products we
kept the font as similar as it can be, we chose thin lettering that was kept in capitals.
The font for important headings was black and the side headings were in a baby pink
colour which was also kept consistent through the album and insert booklet. and in All
the photos we used have quite a plain tone and we didn’t edit a lot of them as we
wanted it to look natural.
to get the idea of her being a up and coming artist
we decided to stick to a rural setting to show that
she isn’t well known and lives with nature
surroundings not big city buildings. We chose to
use photos where she wasn’t looking directly into
the camera because we believed that this would
allow the audience to get a feel for what sort of a
person Ava – Mae is as a new artist.
3. TRANSITIONS/FADE
• When filming our media product we decided to film in colour and then edit scenes to
look black and white this allowed us to clearly show a time difference and the tone of
the video too. An example of this would be when we show the couple shopping and as
they’re messing about the colour of the shot slowly fades to black and white and then
back to normal colour again in a different shot.
We included this to show that the scene was in the past as normally black and
white is associated with past times. We also used black and white to show the
tone of the video more, sometimes we placed a video of the protagonist lip
syncing in black and white because it shows her mood and emotion more
than it being in full colour and it .
4. SHOOTING PHOTOS AND FILMING
• We shot some of our website and album photos at the same time we filmed, this is to
show a clear connection between the three media products and allowed us to develop
a band identity which when researching we found was very important to promote a
successful album, this enabled us to keep the consistency we were hoping for. Similarly
when looking at our website you can see we keep a clear pattern of black and light
pink, this is so we can portray the identity of the song which is innocence and
heartbreak, the contrast of the black to the pink works really well with this idea as it
presents the binary opposition we see in our music video of happy(being the pink) to
sad(being the black)
• We also kept with the idea of
having the protagonist looking away
from the camera in order to show her
as down to earth and to not have a
huge ego; we feel this is typical of the
artist’s characteristics we were aiming
for. All the shots that were taken at
this location have been kept in colour
as we believe the scenery is very good
at showing the location our artist is
from and showing off the idea of that
rural/urban setting we were going for.
5. CROSS MEDIA CONVERGENCE
• We did use cross media convergence in our music video by featuring our album cover.
In the video we see the protagonist walking down a lane with her dog, and by the use
of an over the shoulder shot we see she then stops to check her phone and as the
phone unlocks it reveals the alum cover we as a group put together. For me this is
probably one of the best bits of our music video and it help to promote the album and
the artist.
6. PRODUCING OUR DIGIPACK
• When producing our digipack we wanted to keep
it simple along with the tone of the song and the
theme of our website, we didn’t feel the need to
over complicate the look due to the tone and
lyrics of the song being very straight forward in
their meaning. However this didn’t mean it was a
easy ride! We had to crop down the photos of
our protagonist in order to place them on the
contrasting baby pink background, we chose to
do this in order to make the album cover stand
out which we know is very important when it
comes to the purchase of the album. A point to
not be that the contrast of happy to sad consists
on the front of our album as we see the artist in a
dark green patched camo jacket shoeing her as
the heartbroken one and then the background is
light pink suggesting that there have been
7. STAR THEORY
• our artist is a ‘Star’ and not just a singer. This is because we have
given a whole world surrounding her like a website and
merchandise for fans to buy making the fans then idolise her
more and be able to relate more to her than if she was just a
singer.
• by making the persona of the artist in the video seem upset and
heartbroken means that people will relate therefore creating a
place in the audiences heart for the star herself. Dyer also states
that the star is there to take money from people, and by having a
merchandise shop it prompts them to buy from it. Dyer also
states that the star creates an ideology and therefore provokes
opinions on certain topics, in our artists life she is shown to be
independent and strong at the end of the media product
therefore prompting a positive outlook; in this situation, to her
8. WHICH WE WOULD RELEASE FIRST
• Personally I would choose to release the music video first because then as we have
incorporated the album cover into the video so as the audience would see this it would
raise interest into wondering when the album is going to come out and it would cause
speculation about what the album is going to involve and what sort of tone you would
see. I would follow with the release of the actual album because if people like the
album they’re more likely to go online and purchase the merchandise we have made.
9. ALTMAN GENRE THEROY
Our product would relate to Altman’s theory because he says the audience feel a set of
pleasures.
• Emotional – the audience will feel an emotional connection with the video as they may
relate to it or just feel sorry for the protagonist as having to suffer in this way.
• Viscular – They may get a gut feeling of sadness or the sense of a knot in their
stomach when you see the boy with the new girl.
• Intellectual – It could be argued that the audience will feel a sense of a plot because
when they see the boy with the new girl they may wonder if hes cheating or just
moved on also when we see a flashback to him giving her the ring it makes the
audience wonder if the relationship is as serious as getting engaged or if its just a
present.
