2. Introduction
Certificate ratings are very important as if a child were to view a film
that was not visually appropriate for them their parents would get
angry and the child could be horrified. Film companies need certificate
ratings as if younger children were to view a violent and inappropriate
film it could lead to them saying the things they heard and starting
violent fights with others which is why certificate ratings are important
for children.
3. U- universal
A u film should be appropriate for children of aged 4 and above. Inappropriate language and violence
is not often seen in u rated films unless it's clearly being disapproved of. No drug abuse is to be
shown in u rated films as it gives children the wrong idea unless it is being used for an anti drug
message for all children. Furthermore sex is not seen in u rated films, the most sexual content seen
during a u film is kissing, however nudity is sometimes seen with no sexual content. Scary violence is
mild in these types of films as it may frighten the children watching or it could cause them to start a
fight of their own with someone they are not on good terms with.
4. Pg- parental guidance
A pg rated film is suitable for most audiences however some scenes may no be for young children
who are not accompanied by an adult. However an adult won't be necessary at a pg film. The
language in a pg rated film is mild, and the nudity may be allowed but not if it is linked to any romantic
activities, furthermore sex can be mentioned and joked about but only if it is discreetly. During a pg
film there won't be detail of anyone fighting this is so that children won't easily cop fighting techniques.
5. 12 a
Suitable for 12 years and older Films that are rated 12a are no visually suitable for children
under the age of 12. Anyone who is younger than 12 and wants to see a 12a rated film has
to be accompanied by an adult. During a 12a rated film discriminatory language is unlikely
to be acceptable unless clearly condemned. Strong language could sometimes be permitted
depending on the situation and here might be violence.
6. 15
Suitable only for 15 years and over No one under the age of 15 will be able to ret or see a
15 rated movie. These films may show drug abuse, sex and imitable behavior although
dangerous behavior won't dwell on detail as it could be copied, sexual behavior might be
portrayed throughout a 15 rate film. Furthermore drug abuse will be shown but the film will
not promote or encourage drug use.
7. 18
Suitable only for adults During an 18 rated film sex is used to educated in matters such as
human sexuality, safer sex and health, unlike in 15 rated films, explicit images of sexual
activity may be permitted. Violence is also permitted as it will be mature adults who would
be watching the film instead of childish teenagers.
8. My horror film will be of the rating 15 as it is going to be a horror and it
will have violence in it as well as graphic scenes which are appropriate
enough for a 15 year old. However, I will not class it as an 18 rated film
as I will not include much violence, strong language or aggressive
behavior.
