2. Age classification is the age ratings given to
different films depending on what is shown.
For instance if the film contains a certain
amount of gore or violence it will have a
higher rating, the less of that shown the
lower the rating.

BBFC play an important role in the film
industry as they have a big impact on the
target audience for certain films. They could
cause such issues as the director wanting
their film to be a 12 but then it be classified
as an 15, which affects who can go see the
film in the cinema and how much they will
produce in box office.
4. Universal - this means that this film is suitable
for everyone (4 and over). There is no
reference to sex, drugs or crime and doesn’t
contain nudity or violence and gore.
5. Parental Guidance –It is suitable for all, but it is
recommended that younger children are
accompanied by adults, recommended that
they are with a parent if 8 or under.
6. 12 – Films classified 12A or12 contain material
that is not suitable for children aged under 12.
No one younger than 12 may see a 12A film in
a cinema unless accompanied by an adult.
Adults who are planning to take their child to
see a 12A should consider whether it will be
appropriate for them to see.
7. 15 – No one under the age of 15 can see this
film as it may partially contain disturbing
images, nudity, drug abuse or rude language.
8. 18 – No one under the age of 18 can see this
film as an 18 will contain bad language,
nudity, drug abuse or disturbing images.
