1. How effective is the combination of
your main product and ancillary
texts?
2. •
Overall the Main products and ancillary texts successfully relate to each other because
we incorporate the main theme's used by the Arctic Monkeys from the research I've conducted. This
includes elements such as the use of the locations from around York as well as incorporating the bands
image from the radio frequency. We thought this would be a good idea because it's a new icon for the
band, something the target audience could relate to, as well as something we thought would be able to
sell as a whole because it would be widely recognisable.

As well, there's a link through the fonts used. The poster for the album and the other ancillary texts which
creates another way of branding the band, where I made a difference with the poster by using an effect
which wears the text to tie together the research of the Arctic Monkeys influence of the older music
groups, to signify that the older bands are never going to be forgotten because of the influences that this
and the next generations of artists will have.
3. We use the Uses and gratifications theory here because of Personal Identity. This is through the
ancillary product of the Poster because we’re giving them something to identify themselves with the
Arctic Monkeys. The audience will be used to the location shot because it’s a recurring factor which is
affiliated with the band since they released their first album. Also the music video acts as
Entertainment because by watching it, they’re being diverted from their problems , they’re seeking
enjoyment while watching the music video so they can immerse themselves with the different
ideologies of the institution (the group).
As well, we use the reception theory (Stuart Hall) by using our own ideologies. We have the genre of
the Romance Tragedy because one of the female robots dies in the middle of the music video. By
doing this, we recognise our own ideology and possibly some of the audience’s ideology because we
recognise that some relationships won’t work out, shown by the female robot breaking. Another
ideology is that some relationships may work because we have the male robot find a second female
robot where they both go off together, leaving the ideology of the narrative open to interpretation
of the audience by the thought that one on hand, it can go well and they’ll stay together but on the
other hand, either one of them breaking and the relationship broken once again.

Through the images used in the digi-pack, they relate to each other as a result of the recurring theme of
the robots taken from the lyrics of the song. This way, we stay with the media product that's used to
identify our project so all of the products together have something which makes them a collective.
Steve Neale: says ‘Genres are instances of repetition and difference’ through this We decided that we
wanted to have some sort of recurring theme into the Arctic Monkeys style, which we achieved through
linking the location scouting from the posters to back up the location scouting of the digi-pack and the
poster. Through this we're recognising what the target audience wants when they're looking at something
that is seen as the Arctic Monkeys, as this combination of the two products sets up the similarity between
our video and an Arctic monkeys video or posters.
