Describe how you located, retrieved and stored information:
I located the information by searching key terms such as “camera operator” and found pages full information. I then
collected the information and added it to my pro forma. I then retrieved the url and pasted it into Neils tool box. I then
copied the text from Neils tool box and pasted into the bibliography. I stored information on to a slide and later changed it
to 10 facts about camera operators. I then located more information located on a different website to find the average
salary for a camera operator. I retrieved the information by selecting bits of the information and graphs that were on the
website. I then added it to the pro forma for research later on for my final project. I then used the information I gathered
to make an info graphic about camera operators. I then used the most relevant points to make graphs for my info graphic
to make it stand out to the audience. I also used Google books to help me with my research as it had valuable information
to help me with creating my info graphic. I stored the information by saving it to a power point then saving the power
point to the mac.

The advert hints that when you drink irn bru it promises to solve peoples problems. The lines of appeal are comedy and
humour and happy families. You can see this in the advert where the boy drinks irn bru his problems disappear. The
persuasion of the advert is reward power, for example when the boy drinks the irn bru he's rewarded with being happy and
not caring about the problems he's going to face. The narrative is the boy arrives at home to find old people naked, this
convinces the audience to spread and share the advert as its funny/hilarious. The advert is realist as it can happen to anybody.
The advert is also linear as it has a start a middle and a end.

humour and happy families. The persuasion of the advert is reward power which promises some positive effect/benefit. You
can see this in the advert when the man drinks the irn bru because the boy is wearing a English football top. Before he was
angry and frustrated and after drinking the product he becomes calm and happy. The narrative is about a dad who's daughter
is making bad dissections. This relates to dads watching this, therefore there more likely to buy the product. The advert is
realist as this can happen in real life. The advert is linear as it has a start a middle and a end.

Client research:
Robert Barr invented irn bru in 1875
It was originally called Strachan’s Brew The original firm was
founded in Falkirk by Robert Barr in 1875, and initially sold
‘aerated waters’, as soft drinks were then called. Robert’s son
Andrew launched the soft drink in 1901 under the name
Strachan’s Brew. Only three people in the whole world
reportedly know the recipe for making Irn-Bru: Former
company chairman Robin Barr; his daughter Julie Barr (the
firm’s Company Secretary and Legal Affairs Manager) and one
other A.G. Barr board director, whose identity remains
confidential.
Coca-Cola is the number one-
selling soft drink everywhere
in the world – except in
Scotland and the Middle East
Client research:
Though the recycling scheme recently ended the 750ml glass bottles that the drink comes in used to be returned to the
manufacturer in exchange for the 30 pence deposit paid – a scheme that was widely available in shops across Scotland. It
was established in 1905, with each returned bottle worth one halfpenny.
Client research:
The advert was funny as it showed a teenager using a grip however from behind its suggests that he’s jacking off. The lines of
appeal are comedy & humor and happy family. This is because there target market is teens from 16-19. The persuasion of the
advert is reward power which promises some positive effect/benefit. This is shown in the advert when the mother thinks he’s
jacking off, to calm her from what's she's seeing she drinks some irn bru. The advert also relates to the teenage audience as
this could happen to them. The advert is realist as this happens to most teenagers. The advert is linear as it has a middle and
a end.

The advert shows the drink is irresistible to even
share to a friend, this suggests to the audience
that its to good to give up. The lines of appeal are
comedy, humor and child hood for example
nostalgia as the advert is from an old kids film.
Therefore there targeting older people as the kids
film came out years ago. The persuasion is star
power because the snowman is well know across
the world for being a famous animation. The
advert is anti realist because the snowman is flying
with a child. The adverts is also linear as it has a
start a middle and a end.

Client research: The first step in manufacturing a carbonated
soft drink is to prepare a syrup containing all
the ingredients of the finished product other
than the carbonated water. The lists of
ingredients were laid down in recipe books
used by syrup room staff.
Hydrometers were used to check the
density of first the syrup and then the
finished product – ensuring that the right
amount of sugar was present. A pressure
gauge, when attached to the top of the
bottle, indicated how much carbon
dioxide (CO2) was contained in the
finished drink. The final check on the
quality of the product was a simple taste
test!
Both Barr businesses, Robert Barr, Falkirk and
A.G. Barr & Co. Glasgow, jointly launched their
own original recipe ‘IRON BREW’ soft drink on
Monday 15th April 1901. Adam Brown, a famous
highland athlete from Shotts, featured on the
label design.
Plastishield covered glass bottles enabled the
supermarkets to sell large bottles of soft drinks
for the first time. The covering made it safe to
sell glass although the maximum pack size was
only 1 litre.
Market research:
Irn-bru is a Scottish carbonated soft drink which is there national drink.
Irn-bru is apart of the soft drinks category with competitors like Pepsi,
Coca-Cola, doctor pepper, tango and others. However in Scotland the
best selling soft drink is irn bru and the second is Coca-Cola. Where in
the rest of the world Coca-Cola is the best selling drink. On average,
more than 10,000 soft drinks from Coca-Cola are consumed every second
of every day. There are nearly 10,450 soft drinks from Coca-Cola
consumed every second of every day including diet coke, Fanta and sprite.
Irn-bru made silly adverts to appeal to teenagers, where coke made
adverts to appeal to 9 to 25. Compared to one other adverts in Scotland
about irn bru are shown more than Coca-Cola. From the designs they are
completely different as for irn bru that have a bright orange colour
where coke has red. The red colour symbolizes Santa where the orange
can resembles Scotland.
Market research:
Irn-bru has another competitor which is a drink called Pepsi, Pepsi is the 3rd most popular drink in Scotland. The reason is
that the adverts for Pepsi in Scotland are shown less frequently than irn bru. The creator of Pepsi, Caleb Bradham, was a
chemist who worked at a pharmacy in New Bern, North Carolina. Bradham designed the beverage to be a fountain drink that
would help cure indigestion. Pepsi's original name was 'Brad's Drink'. It became Pepsi-Cola in 1898. Pepsi's original name was
'Brad's Drink'. It became Pepsi-Cola in 1898. The original Pepsi logo was designed by Bradham. He used a scribbled logo
script. The logo was changed more than 10 times. The current logo was designed in 2008 by the Arnell Group.
The original firm was founded in Falkirk by Robert Barr in 1875, and initially sold ‘aerated waters’, as soft drinks were then
called. Robert’s son Andrew launched the soft drink in 1901 under the name Strachan’s Brew. The name was originally
supposed to be Iron Brew but proposed branding laws forced Barr’s in July 1946 to alter the name as the drink is not actually
brewed. The new ‘Irn-Bru’ trademark was first registered on Thursday 18th July 1946. Irn-Bru was born and the rest they say,
is history. Irn-Bru is manufactured in five factories in Russia alone, and has been produced under licence in Canada, the USA
and Norway since 2008.
Audience research:
From secondary sources I have found that irn bru has a positive
reviews with hardly anyone disliking it. The age its most popular is
late teen age years. I found out that males prefer this drink than
females. I also found out that people who drink/buy this tend to
watch “The Politics Show Scotland”.
I also found out the people who buy this drink tend to be left.
People who drink irn bru have an account at bank of
“Scotland”. People who buy irn bru like going to the cinema,
listening to music, watching live music and video games.
Audience research:
From the data I have collected people prefer coke. I
will try to appeal to the audience by adding coke
vibes into my adverts
From the data I have gathered the people who took this
survey were mostly male. I will try to appeal to the male
gender by making my project targeted at males.
The people who took this survey were between 16-21 years. I
will try to appeal to 16 -21 years by making a silly and
humorous project.
From the data I have collected the people who took this
survey were from mostly from England. I will appeal to
the audience by targeting at the English demographic.
Audience research:
Most of the audience said that Irn-bru isn't over priced.
Therefore I will stick to the same price for my project.
Most of the audience do like the taste of
irn bru, therefore I will stick to the way
irn bru present their taste in adverts.
From the graph, the audience do
prefer glass rather than canned.
Therefore I will appeal to this by
presenting my project as a glass
bottle.
My audience have not been drinking irn bru
for long. Therefore I will appeal to this by
using different brands like Pepsi or coke.
Audience research:
My audience does like the design of irn bru. I will
appeal to this by making my project similar to
their design.
My audience does not think irn-bru will become
more favorable over coke in Briton, therefore I
will appall to this by sticking to other famous
brands, for example coke and Pepsi.

Use this space to record your idea generation. Whatever method(s) you use, get it all together here. Remember you are

police and civilians watching the hooded women.
The video will be a hooded old women in a mobility scooter driving into some
Irn-Bru then leaving the shop with stolen Irn-Bru in her basket.
The adver game will be a platformer game where the old women driving
around is collecting Irn-Bru cans by jumping platform to platform. When the

My idea:
The adver game will be about a man who's slowly dying and
needs irn bru to live, therefore you have to collect Irn Bru
around the map. The more irn bru you get the longer you will
be alive, this will result in getting a much higher score.
The video will be about a guy who's being injured or being
clumsy and when he gets hurt he will drink irn bru and will be
fine and then will say “Irn-Bru gets you through”.
The poster will be a guy injured but smiling because he's
drinking Irn Bru and the slogan will be “irn bru gets you
through”. The slogan will be placed at the top of the poster.

Use the Irn Bru Project UAL 2017 presentation to see the planning requirements. Include all the required planning.
You may need to copy this slide several times, so you can fit all the work on here.
Contingency plan:
• Check to see if the SD card is full, if so check before leaving or book an extra SD card.
• Save your work often onto the Mack or USB, as your computer could turn off.
• Book the equipment the day before, therefore making sure you will get the equipment.
• If you missed a lesson go to a catch up lesson or do the work at lunch time.
• Book the right sort of equipment as you could get two different types of models.
• Plan before hand as you could waste valuable time getting started.
• Make sure to keep the camera in focus as the advert will be hard to see.
Shot lists:
Static: When the shot is locked off, the camera doesn’t pan, tilt, zoom or change in any way.
Tilt: When you rotate the camera vertically from a fixed location.
Pedestal: when the camera is moved vertically up or down (without tilting)
Handheld: The camera is held by the operator without a stabilizer.
Zoom: when you zoom in or out of a subject.

Another idea I have thought of is a first person shooter where the gamer plays as irn bru and has to shoot the other competitors to win. If you get
captured by the other brands of soft drink you will lose. However you will have 3 lives in the game so you wont instantly die when you spawn in.
Another idea is the adver game will be a plat former where you are an unhappy sad man who jumps to plat form to plat form collecting Irn-Bru. When you
collect Irn-Bru the happy meter will go up at the bottom right of the screen and the man becomes happy, however if you don’t collect enough you will lose.
The adver game idea I have chosen is going to be a plat former, where the character is injured and for him to keep on living he needs to collect irn bru. I
will be also adding a meter to let the player know when he's about to die, therefore letting the player know when to collect an irn bru. The game will speed
up as you gradually progress through the level. Another way the character can die is that if he falls of the platform, the player will get a gamer over on the
screen.
Planning Docs (Advergame):
I will record the dialogue using a microphone and transferring it over to the computer for my Adver game.
The Dialogue:
• “mmmm Irn Bru”
• “ooo look at me jump”
• “Irn Bru makes the world go round”
• “Game Over”
• “Better look next time”
• “Walk it off”
• “Theres nothing better than a cold bottle of Irn bru”
• “Ahhhhhhhh”
• “Yummy”
• “Exciting”

Planning Docs (Advergame):
Sound Effect Make this sound by
Bouncing sound effect Stretching out an elastic band and flicking it.
8 bit music in the background I will use an app called Garage band
A ding sound when you collect Irn Bru I will use a bell
Foot steps when the character is walking on the platform Record my own foot steps in the college corridor
A losing sound effect when the character dies I will use a ruler along the table and twang the edge
A can opening sound effect I will buy an Irn bru and record me opening the irn bru to get
the fizz sound.
Planning Docs (Print Advert):
Poster Draft
For my planning I made a draft to get me familiar with the tools and
process I will have to go through for my final print advert. I started by
finding a image on the internet, who fitted the character I was
describing in my planning. I then edited the image because there was
water marks and a irrelevant background that would ruin the selling
point for Irn-Bru. I then put the Irn Bru slogan to suggest that when you
drink irn bru it will motivate you through tough times. I then added the
hospital background to give it a better hospital vibe. I then researched
the font style by searching on a website called “Dafont”. I then installed
the font to the computer/Mack and used it in my draft poster.
These are the colours I will be using in my print advert. The reason I will be using orange is because the colour of the bottle of irn
bru is orange, therefore this colour will be seen a lot in my print advert. The colour red will be in my print advert, because the
injured man will be bleeding to show how hurt he really is, therefore showing how good irn bru is to make him feel happy/better.
The colour white will be seen in my print advert because the bandages on the injured man will be white. The reason white will be
used in my print advert is because the injured man will have white bandages to visibly show how injured he is. The reason why I
will be adding blue to my colour scheme is because the design of irn bru has the colour blue on the can.
Colour scheme
Planning Docs (Print Advert):
Resources Location
Word Located on the college computers
PowerPoint Located on the computers at york college
Photoshop Located at college on the college computers
The font I decided to use was
on a Website called Dafont
where I searched for a suitable
font text called “equalize”. I
then installed the font and
then added it to my print draft.
Planning Docs (Print Advert):
We are going to use Barr
Irn Bru as are prop in the
video. One of the group
members has offered to
pay for the Irn Bru.

  • 10. Research: Describe how you located, retrieved and stored information: I located the information by searching key terms such as “camera operator” and found pages full information. I then collected the information and added it to my pro forma. I then retrieved the url and pasted it into Neils tool box. I then copied the text from Neils tool box and pasted into the bibliography. I stored information on to a slide and later changed it to 10 facts about camera operators. I then located more information located on a different website to find the average salary for a camera operator. I retrieved the information by selecting bits of the information and graphs that were on the website. I then added it to the pro forma for research later on for my final project. I then used the information I gathered to make an info graphic about camera operators. I then used the most relevant points to make graphs for my info graphic to make it stand out to the audience. I also used Google books to help me with my research as it had valuable information to help me with creating my info graphic. I stored the information by saving it to a power point then saving the power point to the mac.
  • 11. Client research: Primary research The advert hints that when you drink irn bru it promises to solve peoples problems. The lines of appeal are comedy and humour and happy families. You can see this in the advert where the boy drinks irn bru his problems disappear. The persuasion of the advert is reward power, for example when the boy drinks the irn bru he's rewarded with being happy and not caring about the problems he's going to face. The narrative is the boy arrives at home to find old people naked, this convinces the audience to spread and share the advert as its funny/hilarious. The advert is realist as it can happen to anybody. The advert is also linear as it has a start a middle and a end. https://youtu.be/P_LVBcnDDQ4 Primary research The advert suggests that when you buy/drink irn bru you'll be happy no matter what situation your in, as shown in the advert the man drinks irn bru as the boy is wearing a English football top and becomes happy. • 13. Client research: Robert Barr invented irn bru in 1875 It was originally called Strachan’s Brew The original firm was founded in Falkirk by Robert Barr in 1875, and initially sold ‘aerated waters’, as soft drinks were then called. Robert’s son Andrew launched the soft drink in 1901 under the name Strachan’s Brew. Only three people in the whole world reportedly know the recipe for making Irn-Bru: Former company chairman Robin Barr; his daughter Julie Barr (the firm’s Company Secretary and Legal Affairs Manager) and one other A.G. Barr board director, whose identity remains confidential. Coca-Cola is the number one- selling soft drink everywhere in the world – except in Scotland and the Middle East
  • 14. Client research: Though the recycling scheme recently ended the 750ml glass bottles that the drink comes in used to be returned to the manufacturer in exchange for the 30 pence deposit paid – a scheme that was widely available in shops across Scotland. It was established in 1905, with each returned bottle worth one halfpenny.

  • 16. Client research: The first step in manufacturing a carbonated soft drink is to prepare a syrup containing all the ingredients of the finished product other than the carbonated water. The lists of ingredients were laid down in recipe books used by syrup room staff. Hydrometers were used to check the density of first the syrup and then the finished product – ensuring that the right amount of sugar was present. A pressure gauge, when attached to the top of the bottle, indicated how much carbon dioxide (CO2) was contained in the finished drink. The final check on the quality of the product was a simple taste test! Both Barr businesses, Robert Barr, Falkirk and A.G. Barr & Co. Glasgow, jointly launched their own original recipe ‘IRON BREW’ soft drink on Monday 15th April 1901. Adam Brown, a famous highland athlete from Shotts, featured on the label design. Plastishield covered glass bottles enabled the supermarkets to sell large bottles of soft drinks for the first time. The covering made it safe to sell glass although the maximum pack size was only 1 litre.
  • 17. Market research: Irn-bru is a Scottish carbonated soft drink which is there national drink. Irn-bru is apart of the soft drinks category with competitors like Pepsi, Coca-Cola, doctor pepper, tango and others. However in Scotland the best selling soft drink is irn bru and the second is Coca-Cola. Where in the rest of the world Coca-Cola is the best selling drink. On average, more than 10,000 soft drinks from Coca-Cola are consumed every second of every day. There are nearly 10,450 soft drinks from Coca-Cola consumed every second of every day including diet coke, Fanta and sprite. Irn-bru made silly adverts to appeal to teenagers, where coke made adverts to appeal to 9 to 25. Compared to one other adverts in Scotland about irn bru are shown more than Coca-Cola. From the designs they are completely different as for irn bru that have a bright orange colour where coke has red. The red colour symbolizes Santa where the orange can resembles Scotland.
  • 18. Market research: Irn-bru has another competitor which is a drink called Pepsi, Pepsi is the 3rd most popular drink in Scotland. The reason is that the adverts for Pepsi in Scotland are shown less frequently than irn bru. The creator of Pepsi, Caleb Bradham, was a chemist who worked at a pharmacy in New Bern, North Carolina. Bradham designed the beverage to be a fountain drink that would help cure indigestion. Pepsi's original name was 'Brad's Drink'. It became Pepsi-Cola in 1898. Pepsi's original name was 'Brad's Drink'. It became Pepsi-Cola in 1898. The original Pepsi logo was designed by Bradham. He used a scribbled logo script. The logo was changed more than 10 times. The current logo was designed in 2008 by the Arnell Group. The original firm was founded in Falkirk by Robert Barr in 1875, and initially sold ‘aerated waters’, as soft drinks were then called. Robert’s son Andrew launched the soft drink in 1901 under the name Strachan’s Brew. The name was originally supposed to be Iron Brew but proposed branding laws forced Barr’s in July 1946 to alter the name as the drink is not actually brewed. The new ‘Irn-Bru’ trademark was first registered on Thursday 18th July 1946. Irn-Bru was born and the rest they say, is history. Irn-Bru is manufactured in five factories in Russia alone, and has been produced under licence in Canada, the USA and Norway since 2008.
  • 19. Audience research: From secondary sources I have found that irn bru has a positive reviews with hardly anyone disliking it. The age its most popular is late teen age years. I found out that males prefer this drink than females. I also found out that people who drink/buy this tend to watch “The Politics Show Scotland”. I also found out the people who buy this drink tend to be left. People who drink irn bru have an account at bank of “Scotland”. I will try to appeal to 16 -21 years by making a silly and humorous project. From the data I have collected the people who took this survey were from mostly from England. I will appeal to the audience by targeting at the English demographic.
  • 21. Audience research: Most of the audience said that Irn-bru isn't over priced. Therefore I will stick to the same price for my project. Most of the audience do like the taste of irn bru, therefore I will stick to the way irn bru present their taste in adverts. From the graph, the audience do prefer glass rather than canned. Therefore I will appeal to this by presenting my project as a glass bottle. My audience have not been drinking irn bru for long. Therefore I will appeal to this by using different brands like Pepsi or coke.
  • 22. Audience research: My audience does like the design of irn bru. I will appeal to this by making my project similar to their design. My audience does not think irn-bru will become more favorable over coke in Briton, therefore I will appall to this by sticking to other famous brands, for example coke and Pepsi.

They’re okay, they catch the attention of viewers but aren’t very realistic. Do you like the design of irn bru and why ? The design with the contrasting colours of blue and orange is effective because it is eye-catching but the drink doesn’t really appeal to me.

You may need to copy this slide several times, so you can fit all the work on here. Contingency plan: • Check to see if the SD card is full, if so check before leaving or book an extra SD card. Shot lists: Static: When the shot is locked off, the camera doesn’t pan, tilt, zoom or change in any way. Tilt: When you rotate the camera vertically from a fixed location. Pedestal: when the camera is moved vertically up or down (without tilting) Handheld: The camera is held by the operator without a stabilizer. Zoom: when you zoom in or out of a subject.

  • 36. Planning Docs (Advergame): An idea I am thinking about is a adver game that will be a platformer game where the old women driving around is collecting Irn-Bru cans by jumping platform to platform. When the old women collects the Irn-Bru her mobility scooter gets a slight charge boost to get through the game quicker. Another idea I have thought of is a first person shooter where the gamer plays as irn bru and has to shoot the other competitors to win. If you get captured by the other brands of soft drink you will lose. However you will have 3 lives in the game so you wont instantly die when you spawn in. Another idea is the adver game will be a plat former where you are an unhappy sad man who jumps to plat form to plat form collecting Irn-Bru. When you collect Irn-Bru the happy meter will go up at the bottom right of the screen and the man becomes happy, however if you don’t collect enough you will lose. The adver game idea I have chosen is going to be a plat former, where the character is injured and for him to keep on living he needs to collect irn bru. I will be also adding a meter to let the player know when he's about to die, therefore letting the player know when to collect an irn bru. The game will speed up as you gradually progress through the level. Another way the character can die is that if he falls of the platform, the player will get a gamer over on the screen.

  • 39. Planning Docs (Print Advert): Poster Draft For my planning I made a draft to get me familiar with the tools and process I will have to go through for my final print advert. I started by finding a image on the internet, who fitted the character I was describing in my planning. I then edited the image because there was water marks and a irrelevant background that would ruin the selling point for Irn-Bru. I then put the Irn Bru slogan to suggest that when you drink irn bru it will motivate you through tough times. I then added the hospital background to give it a better hospital vibe. I then researched the font style by searching on a website called “Dafont”. I then installed the font to the computer/Mack and used it in my draft poster. These are the colours I will be using in my print advert. The reason I will be using orange is because the colour of the bottle of irn bru is orange, therefore this colour will be seen a lot in my print advert. The colour red will be in my print advert, because the injured man will be bleeding to show how hurt he really is, therefore showing how good irn bru is to make him feel happy/better. The colour white will be seen in my print advert because the bandages on the injured man will be white. The reason white will be used in my print advert is because the injured man will have white bandages to visibly show how injured he is. The reason why I will be adding blue to my colour scheme is because the design of irn bru has the colour blue on the can. Colour scheme
