- Welcome everybody! Thank you for joining us today for our biggest announcement in our history
- This year is a very special year for Veeam. This year we are “Veeam: Celebrating 10th Anniversary” of Veeam. The company was founded in 2006, and released its flagship product VBR in February 2008. Our product has been on the market only 8 ½ years and we have achieved a lot during this time. Brief history of evolution: We started with the focus on VMware data protection and originally positioned ourselves as “#1 VMware Backup”; as the business needs and requirements of our customers increased so that our capabilities, and we changed our positioning to “Modern Data Protection – Built for Virtualization”; Finally two years ago we realized that our customers are entering a new era of Always-On Business, a business that operates Globally 24.7.365 and require what we call “Availability for the Always-On Enterprise” that is the ability to restore any IT service, any application, any piece of data within seconds and minutes vs hours and days offered by the legacy backup solutions
- I don’t know which images best to use. My idea I want to deliver is very simple: all businesses to survive must deliver new and innovate products and services to the market faster. And these new products and services are based on Software and Hybrid Cloud which must operate 24.7.365 BUT WE ARE IN THE MIDST OF A MAJOR REVOLUTION – A TECHNOLOGY REVOLUTION OUR INTERACTION WITH TECHNOLOGY HAS CHANGED BEYONG IMAGINATION IN THE LAST DECADE THE CURRENT WAVE OF DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION IS DRIVING MODERN LIFE … BUT WHAT ABOUT THE NEXT 5 YEARS, OR EVEN BEYOND? NO-ONE HAS A CRYSTAL BALL, BUT THE ONE THING WE CAN ALL AGREE ON IS THAT THE PACE OF INNOVATION IS MIND-BLOWING. BUT WHAT IS COMING??? IN THE LAST 100 YEARS, WE HAVE EVOLVED FROM THE HORSE AND CARRIAGE TO THE CUSP OF A DRIVERLESS MOTORING ERA. OUR HOMES ARE NOW SMART HOMES WITH METERS AND APPS RUNNING MANY FACETS OF OUR LIVES. CLASSROOM EXPERIENCES ARE NOW FULLY DIGITISED THIS TRANSFORMATION IS CHALLENGING STATUS QUO THINKING… “OK” ACCESS TO APPLICATIONS AND DATA IS NO LONGER SATISFACTORY IN TODAY’S DIGITAL AGE. all businesses to stay relevant and alive to innovate in order to deliver more products and services to the market faster. And this innovation, these new products and services are based on Software and Hybrid Cloud which must operate 24.7.365 24.7.365 IS THE ONLY ACCEPTABLE LEVEL OF ACCESSIBILITY <NEXT SLIDE>
- As a result of 10 year innovation Veeam has experienced exponential revenue growth. As you can see from this chart our revenue growth is accelerating: in 2015 we did about $474 in revenue bookings, and in 2016 we will be over $600M which represents 27% annual growth According to industry analysts Veeam is # 5 in terms of market share in the marketing of Enterprise Backup and Recovery Software And it took us only 8 years of organic growth to get this market share! And we are planning to take on #4 in 2016
- At the end of last quarter we had over 205 thousand customers. HARD ROCK HOTEL AND CASINO – LAS VEGAS, WAS OUR 200,000TH CUSTOMER 70% of Fortune 500 use Veeam to achieve 24.7.365 Availability We have one of the highest Net Promoter Scores in the industry – 61 which translates into the fact that 9 out of 10 customers would recommend Veeam We estimate that we protect about 11.8M VMs in private clouds which translates to about 20% market share in virtualized private cloud GARTNER MAGIC QUADRANT Q2: 38% YoY and that is 35 SEQUENTIAL QUARTERS of YoY growth
- Before we move to the announcement I would like to introduce Peter McKay, our new President and Chief Operating Officer Peter joined Veeam a few weeks ago, and I am very excited to have him on board as part of the Veeam Teeam! Peter is an industry veteran with a unique and powerful track record of success with some very large companies running large groups and projects at CA, IBM and VMware as well as successfully growing smaller startups such as Watchfire, Desktone and others, and selling them to those larger organizations Please join me in welcoming Peter McKay on stage! - Introducing the Veeam Availability Platform for the Hybrid Cloud You can see here all the components that I was just discussing, bringing about the Next Generation of Availability for virtual, physical, and cloud-based workloads – across the hybrid cloud -- to enable the Always-On Enterprise With this platform, Veeam will deliver enterprise continuity through our award winning virtual server technology, now with the addition of public cloud and physical server workload availability – and with the new Veeam Availability Console which brings these offerings, via cloud connect, to the private, managed, and public cloud. In fact, Veeam Cloud Connect now serves as the underpinning technology that takes backups or replicas to the cloud, and that moves data between clouds, allowing you to achieve workload mobility. And finally DR orchestration thru Veeam Availability Orchestrator, which not only aids in enterprise continuity, but also provides automatic DR plan documentation, for compliance, and visibility. We’ll dig into these platform components a bit more later, but let me tell you a little more about our capabilities I just mentioned, listed at the bottom here.
- <go thru capabilities> So that’s the Veeam Availability Platform for the Hybrid Cloud – the next generation of Availability from Veeam. Now, to go thru the components of the platform – and to bring you some additional product announcements, let’s welcome Jeff Crum and John Metzger.
- Jeff Thanks John – so let’s talk a little about the features and benefits we’ve announced so far for VAS 9.5: First, a few months ago we announced Nimble Storage integration, giving you another way to get lower RTOs and RPOs to maintain availability Next, we announced Direct Restore to Microsoft Azure, to help minimize business disruption and optimize on-prem resources by allowing you to take on-prem workloads and restore them to Microsoft Azure With enhanced VMware vCloud Director support, you get simplified management & increased efficiency And finally, you’ll be able to modernize your data center & enterprise applications with our upcoming full integration with MSFT 2016 data center technologies So as we get closer to the release of 9.5, let’s talk about what else we have in store for you, with our first product announcement of the day.
- Jeff In 9.5, we’ll be bringing you a number of enhancements to help you scale efficiently and effectively regardless of the size of your environment In fact, VAS 9.5 will be our most scalable release ever. So how are we delivering that? First, we’ll have backup acceleration technologies that double your i/o performance and shorten your backup windows by up to 5x while reducing the production load Next, we’ll deliver full VM restore acceleration technologies, which greatly improve VM restore performance with custom-tailored logic for raw disk, deduplicating storage, and tape And finally, we’re adding processing engine enhancements to add more efficient backup job processing so that you can scale up more efficiently to very large environments But that’s not all, in addition to these scalability enhancements…
- Jeff …With 9.5 we’re also delivering Advanced ReFS integration, for greater performance and capacity efficiencies for large scale datasets. This functionality will allow you to Reduce production impact with faster backups via fast cloning technology Save $ with reduced backup storage consumption with spaceless full backups Avoid data loss and corruption with data integrity streams
- Jeff Finally, it wouldn’t be VAS without Veeam ONE, where we’ll be bringing you chargeback capabilities to help you save money and better allocate resources thru better understanding of the real costs of IT For enterprises, this means understanding the cost of internal IT services, and for service providers, it means billing clients based on VM configuration & performance usage This feature also includes full vCloud Director support, where you can login to Veeam ONE with your VMware vCloud Director credentials, view and receive alerts, and generate reports
- John – Why, physical workloads, and why now? Well, on Average, nearly 80% of business workloads are virtualized. However due to hardware configurations and regulatory compliance requirements, some physical workloads cannot be virtualized. Yet, these workloads have the same Availability requirements. And Enterprises can’t rely on legacy backup to recover what they need when they need it. -Veeam Agents for Windows and Linux help you reduce downtime and data loss -Further workload mobility between on-premises and public clouds. -And removes the need for multiple backup solutions to protect physical machines, virtual machines, and public cloud-based workloads. Now, they can all be protected with Veeam. Jeff – can you tell us more about the new Veeam Agents?
- Jeff Thanks John, that’s right our new Veeam agents bring enterprise-level features such as application-aware processing, flexible scheduling, and more retention options There will be workstation and server versions with different levels of functionality, and, as according to Veeam tradition to give to the IT community, we’ll offer a free version of this product as well. We’ll also be adding the ability to back up from an agent directly to a service provider or primary data center with Veeam Cloud Connect - a must-have for mobile or home office-based workforces
- Jeff Licensing will be per agent, on an annual subscription basis with full 24.7 support And as I just mentioned, there will free, workstation, and server versions
- John Veeam Availability Orchestrator provides Disaster Recovery Orchestration for the Enterprise with: Orchestration of Veeam backups and replicas through a defined disaster recovery plan Automated non-disruptive disaster recovery testing to ensure successful plan execution if disaster strikes Built-in documenting, updating, and reporting of DR plans to satisfy compliance requirements Jeff – can you tell us more about how VAO works?
- Jeff Sure – the key to how VAO can help you is in this 3-step description which I’ll share with you here. First, VAO lets you build flexible, cross-site workflows that orchestrate Veeam replicas to perform failover plans Next, you get automated, on-demand testing of these failover plans to confirm the location of replicas and the functionality of applications And third, you get automatically maintained DR documentation to ensure up-to-date DR plans
- Jeff VAO will be priced per VM via annual subscription – and you’ll need VAS to use it
- John With Veeam Cloud Connect, we make getting a copy of your data offsite easy! Veeam Cloud Connect delivers integrated, fast and secure backup and disaster recovery from the cloud: Enabling a comprehensive Availability strategy for the hybrid cloud Removing the cost of building/maintaining offsite data centers Reducing complexity with cloud backup, replication and restore Jeff – can you tell us more about how VCC works?
- Jeff Sure – when you think about VCC, there are two basic functionalities: First, you can use VCC-backup, which copies backups offsite to a service provider so you don’t have to maintain your own secondary site, or potentially to a central enterprise location And second, there’s VCC-replication which lets you take replicas off-site bringing DR as a service capabilities
- Jeff In delivering this functionality Veeam Cloud Connect not only provides the means for customers to connect to service providers – it also enables remote offices with the ability to connect to central enterprise locations
- John In fact, analyst estimate nearly 40% of enterprises are using DRaaS or BaaS already, with another 40% are planning or to use these services in the next 12 or interested in using these services. The primary drivers… IT efficiency and cost savings. So, as enterprises make the move to the cloud they are demanding DRaaS and BaaS offerings that are easy to setup and use. And here is where VAC can help.
- Jeff So John mentioned how this new product helps both service providers and enterprises manage either their customers or their remote offices. This is the case because service providers and distributed enterprises share many similar challenges that impact management costs. They both need to manage tenants, or departments; they both deal with remote backup & replica management They also require monitoring and alerting – as well as showback in the case of enterprises or chargeback & billing in the case of service providers Veeam Availability Console addresses these challenges by including functionality to make all of these tasks easier…
- Jeff Integrated with VCC, VAC allows service providers to streamline delivery of Veeam-powered BaaS and DRaaS to their customers…
- Jeff … while distributed enterprises can more easily and efficiently manage remote offices and distributed locations.
- Jeff Finally, it was mentioned earlier that VAC was built on the technology of VMBP – our management portal for service providers, available today. And with that comes an additional benefit that VAC brings, of enabling partners and resellers to launch new service provider businesses – and capture new revenue streams
- Jeff VAC is available for service providers and enterprises – you can think of it as a framework for managing other licensed components of the VAP
- John Don’t worry about that! With New Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 you can backup you email data locally – mitigating the risk of data loss and email downtime. So Jeff, tell us more about Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365?
- Jeff Sure John – and again, you can learn more about this new product – and all of the announcements today – in our on-demand breakout sessions that will be made available immediately after the live keynote. Integrated with Veeam Backup & Replication, this new product allows you to: Maintain email access by securely backing up Office 365 email data back to your environment Avoid data loss via quick recovery of individual mailbox items with best-of breed granularity Satisfy legal & regulatory requirements with efficient eDiscovery of email archives
- Veeam has proven track record for delivering real value to customers and partners with joint alliance partner solutions We work in concert with our alliances to deliver Fast, efficient backup and recovery critical to meeting SLAs and business expectations Unified IT operations and less complex management Greater value and return on modern storage investments [Click] Storage integration is a critical element of Veeam Availability solutions. We first introduced storage integration in version 6.5 and with each subsequent release since then, we’ve added new capabilities and supported additional vendors. With the upcoming release of version 9.5, we add Nimble Storage to our list of integrations.
- Today we are announcing IBM storage as our next integration. In the Veeam v10 release, we will integrate with IBM Spectrum Virtualize – enabling support for the IBM Storewize family and IBM SAN Volume Controller Veeam and IBM already have many joint customers and partners. Veeam version 10 integration will provide a much deeper return on IBM storage investments To better understand the significance of this move and to talk about our plans, please help me welcome to the stage, Doug O’Flaherty – Portfolio Marketing Director for IBM Spectrum Storage.
