The Role
ITB is now looking for a Research Student to work on the “Copy editing of forthcoming
book”
Overview of the Project:
The contributed book consists of approximately 25 chapters which need to be copy
edited. It is a use case book written by many authors. English is often not the first
language of authors and therefore copy editing is crucial to the project.
Main deliverables from the project:
Copy edited first and second draft chapters
Main responsibilities:
The person is responsible to copy edit each chapter providing sufficient feedback and
improvements which will be implemented by the author of the respective chapter. There
are two periods for which this work is required. The first period takes place for the entire
month of June and the second period is taking place throughout the entire month of
August.
The main tasks include:
Correcting errors in spelling, grammar and punctuation
Making sure the text is in the publisher's or publication’s style ('house style')
Making sure that the meaning of the text is clear
Checking that references are quoted correctly and pictures have the right captions
Checking for possible legal issues, such as libel, partiality or breach of copyright
Resolving queries with the author
Skills and Qualifications Required:
The person should have the following preferred skills and qulaifications:
A 2.1 or higher at an appropriate degree (ordinary or higher)
A good command of English
Excellent levels of concentration, accuracy and attention to detail
The ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
Tact and diplomacy for working with authors
A methodical and well-organised approach
Good computer skills
A high level of self-motivation.

2. Hours of work:
40 hours per week. Normal working hours will be 9 to 5 Monday to Friday for a period of
2 months which are not in consecutive order. The work will take place in the month of
June and August.
Salary:
The salary will be Euro 660 per month.
