1. Final cut
Final cut pro was the main form of media technology used, this was
the main software which was used to edit and put together all the
footage we took.
I had also used final cut to create the animatic for our music video
this was then later on put in our pitch to show the audience as well
as our teachers a brief idea of how we expect our video to turn out.
Creating this was important as it gave us an idea of the ideas which
we put forward and was used as a back up for us to go back and look
over if we had forgotten any ideas.
2. Editing the green screen
• This was the skill which we
learnt from the teachers.
Removing the green screen on
final cut was tricky but
interesting. There were many
processes involved when doing
this. To remove the green screen
we had to go onto edit key and
cromma key select the color we
wanted to remove then re select
the image dragging the color
icon till the green on the screen
disappeared. When removing all
the green we then made sure
that we smoothed the edges so
that it didn't’t look rough or
unprofessional. Toolbar which was used to smooth down
the edges and remove the color green
from the artist
3. Adding markers.
Adding markers really helped the process
of editing although this was long it made
life much easier when coming to edit and
drag the scenes we wanted. We added
markers onto every beat by using ‘m’ as
indicated. This was an easy and precise
Here are the markers illustrated on every
way to make sure that the lip sync was on
beat followed by the sound on top at
point and matched with the action going
each beat we included a base track
on. Also as the sound was an important making the lip sync more precise.
aspect we were able to look at the sound
in more detail making sure it was precise.
4. Using color correction
This was what I planned on using
near the end when all the clips
were placed in order. This was
where I was able to make the
contrast of each scene more
brighter making it look like a more
happy atmosphere rather than
being boring. When looking back
at the video as a group we Color correction moving the saturation to
thought that the main scene that change brightness
needed the color correction was
the roof scene. When we filmed
this scene it was cloudy, but luckily
we made the sky more brighter
making it more interesting and
vibrant.

roof as shown opposite
5. Changing capacity
Unlike obvious effects which we used in AS,
changing the capacity of each scene was what
we also used this was to make the scene more
interesting and link well with what was being
told. Due to having a variety of clips based on
top of each other it was crucial that we
changed the capacity of the scene to make
the clips come into one another. An example
where we changed the capacity was the party
scene and the artist together. Due to the party
scene not coming out how we expected
changing the capacity so that it was faded out
and that the artist was behind it made the
scene more interesting and looked really well.
As we started off with changing the capacity
we thought doing this for other parts such as
the waterfall would also look good
Examples of where we changed the capacity
6. Reverse/ slow motion and speeding up
Another form of edit we used was the reverse , slow motion and also
speeding clips up. This for me was one edit I liked most as it made
something simple look interesting and professional. We used the reverse
for many of the skate park scenes. From the audience when we showed
them they thought it worked really well and liked the effect it brought on
the video. To simply change the speed we pressed cmd shift j where we
were able to change the speed and click reverse if wanted.

7. Overall
With final cut you learn new things every time. I feel from AS my final
cut skills have improved more and I am more confortable editing.
Making a music video was stress but tested my ability to edit which
overall I feel succeeded. Throughout the process the main objective
was for our video to appeal to our audience, which had to be taken on
board when filming and editing. I had made sure whilst I was editing I
got feedback from our audience to see what they liked and what
needed to be improved. The main edits I found out that attracted our
audience were the fast edits, quick cuts and also the transitions from
one scene to the next.
Using final cut has been an interesting journey which I have enjoyed
overall.
