The Stephen P. Timoshenko Collection contains over 2,400 volumes from Dr. Timoshenko's personal library on the history of mechanics. Dr. Timoshenko was considered the father of applied mechanics in the United States and wrote seminal works in engineering mechanics, elasticity, and strength of materials. After donating his collection to Stanford University in the late 1950s, many of the books are housed in the Terman Engineering Library, while rare items are kept in the university's Special Collections.
