Separation by Flotation
▪ Slurry is agitated with additional chemicals making the desired ore hydrophobic.
▪ Air is introduced which create bubbles that the ore attaches to.
▪ Concentrated ore floats to the top. Tailing are removed through the underflow.

Attrition Scrubbers

Attrition Scrubbers
▪ Flotation – cleaning particle surfaces prior to flotation to
increase selectivity.
▪ Glass sand – removing iron oxide coating on silica sand by
attrition and flotation to produce a low-iron glass sand.
▪ Industrial sand – Scrubbing blasting sand and fracturing
sand to disperse contaminating soft particles and other
impurities, which are then removed by desliming. This
process helps your sand product meet API standards by
creating a high purity, more crush resistant silica sand that
will meet your customers’ specifications.
▪ Ores and other minerals (e.g. phosphate) – freeing
impurities so they can be removed with the help of a spiral
classifier or hydrocyclone.
▪ Dissolving solids – using the attrition machine to dissolve
solids, reducing contact time by continuously exposing fresh
surfaces to the solvent.

▪ Come in pairs with a downdraft and updraft
cell.
▪ Compact machines that require minimal floor
space.
▪ Octagonal tank design provides folding of the
pulp at each apex.
▪ Eliminates dead zones.
▪ Abrasion resistant liners on sides and
impellers.

▪ Retention Time Testing:
Samples are scrubbed for prescribed times at set % solids and particle size
distribution.
▪ Percent Solids Testing:
Samples are scrubbed at different % solids values at set retention time and
particle size distribution.
▪ Attrition Feed - Particle Size Distribution:
Samples can be tested at varying size distributions (e.g. removal of slimes) to
identify optimum scrubbing conditions.

▪ Flotation Testing:
Scrubbed samples are submitted to lab-scale flotation tests under
standard conditions to evaluate the effect of the attrition scrubbing
on flotation performance.
Examples: Preparing surfaces prior to Cu/Mo separation. Floating silica
away from phosphates.
▪ Solid/Liquid Separation Testing:
Scrubbed samples are submitted to lab-scale thickening/filtration
tests under standard conditions to evaluate the effect of the
attrition scrubbing on the rheology of the material.
