Monologue About Lockers
(The scene opens on a school hallway. Lockers line one side. They are split in half: there is one locker on top, and one on the bottom. There is a
group of high school girls talking and giggling next to the lockers. Ella Clark is one of the girls, and she is opening a locker on top, while talking
to another girl. Enter Dahlia White. She kneels down at one of the lockers on the bottom, and starts to open it.) ELLA. (Sarcastically) Hey Dahlia, I
like your glasses! (Dahlia ignores her. The other girls laugh. As the teasing goes on, however, they slowly stop laughing.) ELLA. Four Eyes, what are
you doing this weekend? Going out with friends? Oh, wait, you don't have any friends. Oh, well, I guess you'll just be sitting at home, all alone, thinking

Ella, please sit down. ELLA. No! (She stands on the table.) You're just trying to make me look bad in front of everyone. You talk about all the bad
things I've done in my life. And, yeah, I get it, I've done bad things. But you don't say anything about the good things. I have done good things in
my life, but for some reason, they're not in any of your stupid stalker tapes. You don't care if I finally get what I deserve. You just want to make

Jimmy Woods. He used to bully me in preschool. You know, beat me up, call me names, take away all my food. I was lucky I didn't starve to
death. My parents didn't do anything about it, they didn't believe me. LEWIS. Mr. Reed, when did you say Ella started misbehaving? REED.
Around the time she started school. Why? LEWIS. (To himself) So this would've been right before. (Aloud) Could we consider the fact that there
was a reason Ella started being a bully? Because she herself was being bullied? (He turns quickly to face Reed, and points an accusing finger at him.)
Hey! Why weren't there any tapes showing the bullying? They should've been there, as a document of Ella's

Ella Fitzgerald
To some, Ella Fitzgerald had a hard life from the moment she was born. To others, Ella had it made. Ella Fitzgerald was born April 25th 1917 in
Virginia. Soon afterwards, her parents separated and Ella followed her mother to Yonkers, New York. Ella was barely a teenager when her mother
died. While still coping with this tragedy, Ella found herself failing school and having frequent run–ins with the police. She was also abused by her
caretakers while in the custody of a reform school.
At age 15 Ella ran away from school along with the horrible memories of that time. Somehow she managed to support herself through the Great
Depression, a feat that is most commendable. Ella found her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ella's voice had a sweetness to it that was rarely accompanied by such a wide range as hers. Her style has been described as effortless, natural, flexible,
ageless and accessible. Many call her "The First Lady of Song". She started as a swing singer, moved to bebop, perfected scat and jazz and could sing
modern or classic songs. Artists whose songs she stylized included Louis Armstrong, Cole Porter, Johnny Mercer, Irving Berlin,Duke Ellington and the
Gershwins.
Throughout her life she collaborated on more than 250 albums, sold more than 40 million of those albums and won 13 Grammy awards. Her
influence soon spread throughout the musical circuit and her singing style was much imitated in the 1950s and 1960s. Ella's trademark of "scat"
singing (a technique in which the singer improvises as an instrument would and uses nonsense syllables) was taken up by many male and female jazz
vocalists. Sarah Vaughn, Billie Holiday and the modern day Joss Stone all show signs of Ella's influence. Ella is also credited with inspiring the great
Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennet and Mel Torme to some extent.
Although Ella's influence through style is great, perhaps her greatest achievement can be noticed in her career as a whole. Ella Fitzgerald was an
influential woman with many followers around the world, of all races, religions and nationalities. In many ways she opened the

The Characteristics Of The Jazz Style Of Ella Fitzgerald
Learning a great deal about musicality, the business side of music and how to take care of herself, the next few years brought a great deal of success
to Chick Webb and herself.
With the raise of the new jazz style, bebop, jazz music moved from the diatonic conventions of the swing era to more chromatic harmonies, complex
rhythms and more notes and chord options. This style caught Ella's attention and during her time with the Chick Webb band, she got her start
improvising in the bop style.
Ella is said to have described the early days of the bop revolution as something of a nightmare. "I felt that I was being left behind, and I was," she
says. A few years later Ella found herself as the guest touring with Gillespie's band. She was thrilled to listen to this new music day in and day out on
the road and quickly found she had enough musicianship and "ears" or ability to hear the intricacies of this hipper jazz. Ella Fitzgerald became an expert
with the new modern rhythms and harmonies and her improvisation and musicianship as a singer improved drastically. Her inspirations during this era
were Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie and she was able to imitate their playing style and the timbre of the saxophone and trumpet. Not only was
she able to copy their playing style but also could sound just like Parker and Gillespie. This is made apparent in her solo from the live recording of
"How High the Moon". This song is a great song for any beginning scat singer to

down the stairs and a low angle shot is used to show how he is looking down on his siblings for eating pork. When Meenah notices that George is
coming up the street, the camera does a very far zoom on him. This emphasizes that he is not far away from the house. Music is also used in this clip
to show how the kids are frantic about their father coming home and fast cuts scenes are also used to build up the suspense and make the situation seem

The Harlem Renaissance was an artistic, social, and cultural explosion during the 1920s in Harlem, York. This flourishing of African
–American culture
was an accomplishment in itself, given the times. The early 1900s was a difficult time for African–American people, and a difficult time for women, so
one can imagine the difficulties that a woman of color would have endured. Ella Fitzgerald defied those odds, transformed the face of the jazz world,
and paved a way for other African–American women to achieve stardom. Ella Fitzgerald faced a sundry difficulties before her days as pioneering
singer. Her father disappeared shortly after Ella was born, and her mother quickly moved on to another man. Subsequently, the three of them moved
to New York, where Ella began going to school in 1923. Her family, town, and school all fell significantly below the poverty line. When Ella was
fifteen, her mother, Tempie, passed away. She stayed living with her stepfather for a short while after her mother's death, but he began mistreating her.
An aunt of hers took Ella in, but Ella eventually ran away with no money, but big dreams. (Nicholson 4–11). Ella originally wanted to be a dancer. She
went to an amateur night contest at the legendary Apollo Theatre to perform a dance. Fitzgerald herself said of that night "I never thought I was a
singer, when I first went on the stage, I went out to dance. But I'd never been in front of the lights and I saw all of those people out there, I just got

Trope In Enchanted
Adults historically love to glorify the idealism and emotionality of childhood through storytelling. From Mark Twain's perennial wild boy
Huckleberry Finn, who befriends a runaway slave despite the prejudices of adult society, to Hiccup of the 2010 film How to Train Your Dragon,
the only one of his village who recognizes that dragons are not evil but actually kind animals, American media has no shortage of children who are
somehow able to see more than their adult counterparts. Patricia Read Russell's 1983 essay "Parallel Romantic Fantasies: Barrie's Peter Pan and
Spielberg's E.T.: The Extraterrestrial" traces the echos of the 1904 play Peter Pan in Spielberg's then recent film, E.T. and one of the parallels she
highlights is this very concept. Russell borrows from Wordsworth in her essay to concisely describe the trope of achild's ability to see more clearly
than adults, referring to it as the "visionary gleam". Russell's essay underlines the presence of this trope in E. T.'s protagonist, a ten–year–old boy
named Elliot, and in his bond with the title character, a friendly lost alien. Over twenty–five years later, the same trope is explored in Disney's parody
film Enchanted but through the lense of a young girl. The concept of the "visionary gleam" of childhood perpetuated by Spielberg's film and Enchanted
reflects an inherent desire of adults to return to a simpler, more emotionally driven period of their lives which may or may not have actually existed,

Singer. Born April 25, 1917, in Newport News, Virginia. (Though many biographical sources give her birth date as 1918, her birth certificate and
school records show her to have been born a year earlier.) Often referred to as the "first lady of song," Fitzgerald enjoyed a career that stretched over
six decades. With her lucid intonation and a range of three octaves, she became the preeminent jazz singer of her generation, recording over 2,000
songs, selling over 40 million albums, and winning 13 Grammy Awards, including one in 1967 for Lifetime Achievement.

She began to work with an improvisational style of singing called "scat," or "bop," singing, based on the complex, spontaneous instrumental style of
Dizzy Gillespie. In 1945, Fitzgerald recorded a scat version of "Flying Home," which became one of the most influential vocal jazz records of the
decade.
While on tour with Gillespie's band in 1946, Fitzgerald met and fell in love with the bassist Ray Brown, whom she married in 1947. (She had been
previously married to Benjamin Kornegay, a shipyard worker, but their two–year marriage was annulled in 1943.) Fitzgerald and Brown were divorced
in 1952, but they continued to perform together in Brown's own jazz combo.
Meanwhile, Fitzgerald had begun to work with Norman Granz, the impresario of a popular series called "Jazz at the Philharmonic." In 1955, she
was the first artist signed to Granz's new record label, Verve, and began recording a series of "songbook" albums. The first offering, a two–record set
entitled Ella Fitzgerald Sings the Cole Porter Songbook (1956) led to eight other songbooks, each devoted to the work of a particular composer or
composing team: Harold Arlen, Irving Berlin, Duke Ellington, Jerome Kern, Frank Loesser, Johnny Mercer, Rodgers and Hart, and George and Ira

Themes Of Feminism In Harriet The Spy
It is often questioned whether tween literature is too mature for its targeted age group. With themes of murder, sexual abuse, neglect, and other forms
of violence, both physical and psychological, there seems to be one topic that is slightly more prevalent when speaking about tween literature. Tween
literature and culture is often marketed towards young girls and their parents, because of this, it becomes easy to talk about themes of feminism in tween
literature. More specifically, due to the time period in which tween culture became mainstream, postfeminism is a topic that is often heavily discussed
around tween literature. Both Gail Levine's novel, Ella Enchanted, as well as Louise Fitzhugh's novel Harriet the Spy, can both be analyzed using a
postfeminist lense. By using a postfeminist lense in analyzing these books, the issues of postfeminism become apparent when addressing issues such
as a false sense of choice for young girls, an idea that they must be ashamed for who they are and the views that they hold. It is further complicated
when it becomes apparent that due to postfeminist ideology, women, and specifically young girls have lost the ability to articulate sexism when it
affects them. Through these points of contention regarding postfeminism, it becomes aparent that society is not quite ready to hold postfeminist views,
since there is still an imbalance of power that women face on a day to day basis. It is important to have a baseline understanding of what

A Short Story : A Story
PROLOGUE There Ella stood amongst the crowd on a windy summer day, the sun was shining bright and the birds were chirping. It was a perfect
day, but to the people in the crowd nothing was perfect about this day. She looked around and all she could see for what seemed like miles was
grave after grave. Sadness was present on the faces of everyone in the crowd, some people had tears streaming down their face. Not even the
beauty of the world around them could take them out of the depression they all lived in. The minister stood before the crowd above the open
grave, everyone's eyes were on him waiting to hear the words he would say to help bring closure to those amongst the crowd. "We are here today
to mourn the death of the one who was taken from us to soon in life." Ella looked over at her mom, tears were streaming down her mother's face,
she wished she could do something to stop the pain, but she knew her efforts would be meaningless and that her mother just needed to grieve. Her
father stood on the other side of her, he to had tears streaming down his face. Ella had never truly seen him cry before, she had always seen her dad
as to toughest man on earth, to her he was invincible. As she looked at him she noticed that he no longer looked invincible, all he looked was broken.
Ella looked around her and noticed that every who had gathered on this day at the Crest–Hill Cemetery looked broken inside, as if they were missing
an important piece of themselves that they know will never return. "A life has been taken away from us this week, a beautiful life. No parent
should know the pain of losing a child, but today we do so mournfully bury a child. We come here to mourn a life cut short." The minister
proceeded on with the eulogy, but Ella didn't hear a thing. She never understood how she got to this moment, what little thing happened in her life
that lead her down this road. What could she have done differently, as to escape this fate. Ella's mind wondered off to the moment she believed
started it all. She believes it all began at the start of junior year, last year, the day she met him. CHAPTER ONE Ella wanted to spend her last day of

Have you ever experienced the ravenous desire to travel after watching a movie? I have. Many times. A really well made film draws me into the story,
creating the sensation that I 'm not just observing but participating in the action. If the cast and crew have done their job, everything becomes real – the
characters, plot and especially the setting. A thrilling location becomes a virtual character. An intriguing country, ancient city or far away island calls

Book Vs Movie Ella Enchanted
Gail Carson Levine's fantasy novel of Ella Enchanted was adapted into the film Ella Enchanted with a similar basic concept, though the story elements
in both forms of media differ in ways that alter the themes of the original story. One minor identifiable alteration from the book is the setting, which
barely changes physically in the movie. Another change between the two is the opening, which has a similar basis in both versions of the story. Also,
the characters in Ella Enchanted differ so greatly from their original personas that they almost seem to belong to different stories altogether! The plot
differences between the novel and the film can be easily recognized as they practically tell alternating tales. Finally, the classic "happily ever ... Show

trope of Вґhappily ever afterВґ, similar or nearly exact to how this concept was portrayed in the film. Although, the details in the final scenes or
chapters differ in certain ways. For example, the ending of Ella Enchanted is solely focused on the two main protagonists while the film ends its
story with a grand celebration of all of the characters, showing community and a unified cast. As well, the movie excludes the epilogue chapter
present in the book. Ella Enchanted's epilogue showed the life of Ella and Char after all of the previous chaotic events, which added to the final
resolution. All in all, the endings of Ella Enchanted and its novel counterpart are equal and similar in almost every way until small details change the

Comparison Of Black Beauty And Ella Enchanted
The books Black Beauty by Anna Sewell and Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine may seem worlds apart at first glance. Black Beauty is a
classic tale about a horse in the 1800's as he is passed from owner to owner, each treating him with different levels of respect and kindness, showing
whatever social class, age, or gender someone may be or belong to, kindness is a choice, and it really does affect people and animals. Ella
Enchanted is a more recent story, but no less compelling. It is a creative retelling of Cinderella, with a protagonist cursed to obedience by a fairy, yet
she never stops trying to break the curse. In the end she risks everything at the three balls with the prince – only to have things turn out in a way she

They are happy when with people who are good, like the Birtwicks, Jerry, Mandy (Ella's fairy godmother), and Char (the prince). However, it is
only a problem when selfish people are giving the orders, like Hattie commanding Ella to be a slave, and the earl's wife making his head stretch
back painfully with the bearing rein. While the specifics of the conflicts are different, their general idea is the same. The characters are different,
both at their surfaces and cores, but they are also similar on the inside as well. Ella is a female human, while Black Beauty is a male horse.
However, Ella goes out and actively tries to break the curse (like running away to find Lucinda), while Black Beauty only does his best to follow
commands, even if a stone is breaking apart his foot. They both refuse to give up, carrying on in their own ways. They make the best of what they
have, and find their own joys, among their hardships, like Ella learning another language with her friend Areidia, and Black Beauty playing in the
fields although he was working hard as Jerry's cab horse. Both characters are in similar situations, and while they respond differently, they both
persevere. Both themes are about kindness and freedom, but they explore them differently. In Black Beauty, the theme addresses the person with the
power, to be kind to the people under your jurisdiction. It

Gail Carson Levine's Ella Enchanted
For Summer Reading, I read Ella Enchanted. Ella Enchanted is based off of the story of Cinderella mostly towards the end. The book has fairies,
magic, glass slippers, and even the pumpkin carriage just like in Cinderella! Ella's name came from the end of the name Cinderella. The Cinder part is
supposed to mean dirty or uncleansed. I have come to find out that Cinderella's real name is Ella, but her stepmother called her Cinderella as an insult.
That is how the author, Gail Carson Levine, came up with her name.
Gail Carson Levine was born on September 17, 1947, which makes her 68 years of age. She writes young adult literature. Levine was born and
raised in New York City, New York. Her books always include magic and mythical creatures. After reading the book, I found that it probably takes
place around the medieval time period because there are many princes and princesses. The genre is Fantasy. I realized this when Levine brought up all
of the magic, fairies, elves, and ogres. The author uses allusions, epiphanies, and similes in the story. She uses an allusion when she writes the book

I didn't know what was going to happen! Ella Enchanted relates to the real world because in the real world, you are able to control your own destiny.

novel. I like the magic and the fairies, but most of all, I love the storyline! There are so many twists and turns that make you laugh and cry.
I thought Ella Enchanted was a good book. My favorite part was when Char and Ella started writing to each other. My favorite character over all
was Prince Charmont. He was always in love with Ella no matter what happened. They are the perfect couple. I would recommend this book because
you really get sucked into it and you feel like you're in the story when you read

Traditional Princessed From Snow White And The Traditional...
Growing up as a 90's child, Disney films played an important role in my childhood. As a female viewer, Disney princesses played a bigger role in
deciding which Disney films to watch. As the years went on, new Disney princesses were introduced with different styles compared to the traditional
Disney princesses. A traditional Disney princess can be defined as one of the first princessesWalt Disney created, specifically during the 20th century,
and the newer princesses can be defined as the princesses Disney created in the 21st century. Although Disney continues to create princesses, the roles
and views of the newer princesses in Disney movies have changed, as they are seen as more independent, adventurous, and unfocused on finding their
prince charming, compared to the older traditional Disney princess films. In this essay, I will be comparing a traditional princess, Snow White from
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, with one of the recent princesses Disney has introduced in recent years, Anna and Elsa from Frozen.
After Walt Disney acted out scenes of his movie idea to his co–workers, the production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs began. Disney brought in
real actors and real life animals to his studios to have animators study and reproduce their movements in their film. With over 2000 pictures created
and cleaned by hundreds of workers and a million and a half dollars spent, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was released in December of 1937 and

Pittacus made her change in such a dramatic way that you couldn't misconstrue what he was going for. Seven is now the type of girl that if you
say one thing wrong or out of place she will give you a death stare telling you not to ever make that mistake ever again. This all changed when out
of a rash mistake Five stabbed Eight trying to get to Nine. When Eight was killed Seven felt like a part of her was ripped away never to return.
Which led to the change in Seven that even allowed her to rip Five's eye out with an icicle. In this moment of loss Seven has seemed to have
gained the new legacy of controlling the temp to lower it enough to freeze or even to control the ice and water itself. It was never clearly explained
what she can all do with this new found power, but one thing is clear, she is no longer the girl who will sit back and watch the fight unfold. This is

this behavior extremely reasonable given the circumstances that she was put through and is now enduring. She lost the boy of her dreams and

case. Frozen is one instance where princesses listen to their parents. Elsa's parents tell her to conceal her magic (00:09:01–00:09:07). Elsa is able to
follow this for years after her parents have passed away. Keeping her magic contained for so long made it more difficult to control. During her
coronation celebration, Elsa could not contain it any longer. Following what her parents told her caused her to have a breakdown and lose control of
her magic (00:27:00–00:29:30). Another main plot point in Frozen is Elsa's sister Anna trying to find the perfect man.

Ella Fitzgerald Biography Essay
Biography Dubbed "The First Lady of Song," Ella Fitzgerald was the most popular female jazz singer in the United States for more than half a century.
In her lifetime, she won 13 Grammy awards and sold over 40 million albums. Her voice was flexible, wide–ranging, accurate and ageless. She could
sing sultry ballads, sweet jazz and imitate every instrument in an orchestra. She worked with all the jazz greats, from Duke Ellington, Count Basie
and Nat King Cole, to Frank Sinatra, Dizzy Gillespie and Benny Goodman. (Or rather, some might say all the jazz greats had the pleasure of
working with Ella.) She performed at top venues all over the world, and packed them to the hilt. Her audiences were as diverse as her vocal range.

After staying with Joe for a short time, Tempie 's sister Virginia took Ella home. Shortly afterward Joe suffered a heart attack and died, and her little
sister Frances joined them. Unable to adjust to the new circumstances, Ella became increasingly unhappy and entered into a difficult period of her life.
Her grades dropped dramatically, and she frequently skipped school. After getting into trouble with the police, she was taken into custody and sent to a
reform school. Living there was even more unbearable, as she suffered beatings at the hands of her caretakers. Eventually Ella escaped from the
reformatory. The 15–year–old found herself broke and alone during the Great Depression, and strove to endure. Never one to complain, Ella later
reflected on her most difficult years with an appreciation for how they helped her to mature. She used the memories from these times to help gather
emotions for performances, and felt she was more grateful for her success because she knew what it was like to struggle in life. "What 's she going
to do?" In 1934 Ella 's name was pulled in a weekly drawing at the Apollo and she won the opportunity to compete in Amateur Night. Ella went to the
theater that night planning to dance, but when the frenzied Edwards Sisters closed the main show, Ella changed her mind. "They were the dancingest
sisters around," Ella said, and she felt her act would not compare. Once on stage, faced with boos and murmurs of "What 's she going to do?" from

Mona Lisa Rhymes
I am going to do another song analysis, but this time for two completely different song. Today's songs are "The ballad of Mona Lisa" and "Vegas
Lights" by Panic! at the Disco. "The ballad of Mona Lisa" is off of the "Vice & Virtues" album. "Vegas Lights" is a little weird at first, but once
you listen to it once you can't get the words out Panic at the Disco is quirky and interesting band that always has a twist to their songs, and both of
these songs follows suit. "The Ballad of Mona Lisa" begins with the ominous and kind of creepy playing of piano. Then the lyrics begin and it's
kind of confusing, but then you are like yeah that's actually cool. Once you actually listen to the words though it takes a darker turn. Whoever this
woman is apparently has some drinking problems and has some sins she might have paid for. The lead singer, Brendon Urie, eloquently puts it like
"She paints her fingers with a close precision He starts to notice empty bottles of gin And takes a moment to assess the sins she's paid for". This is
less of a poetic song, but more of a story.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now i'm just guessing here but I'm betting this lady is a prostitute and makes some bad decisions even. Now I'm guessing since it is called "The
Ballad of Mona Lisa" The writer must be alluding to the famous painting the "Mona Lisa" by the great Leonardo da Vinci. This song also mentions
"Mona Lisa, I'd pay to see you frown". I think that this "Mona Lisa", the main character of this story, is a master at concealing her emotions, she is
probably struggling with some awful decisions she has made in the past and the present. This Song is about the struggle a person who has made awful
decisions and has to put on a "Mona Lisa" smile to hide his/her problems from the

The Revenge Of Seven
The Revenge of Seven starts off right where The Fall of Five left off. The Mogadorians have just destroyed the Garde's hideout in Chicago and
Five has just accidently killed Eight. Seven, Six, and Nine are all down in Florida trying to recuperate after they lost their friend, Eight. Four is
with Sam, Sarah, Malcolm, and an unlikely ally, Adam a Mogadorian. He has taken the powers from One after she was killed so Adam can control
some seismic activity, which he used to save John, and to fight against his father. The group in Florida is going back to find Eight's body so another
Mogadorian like Adam can take his powers to use against them. Ella was taken by the Mogadorians and is now in one of the ships orbiting Earth.

This is
never more prevenient then when Seven confronts a man at a local bar who is hitting on her: "Marina roughly snatches his wrist. I can hear the
moisture on his arm crackle as it flash freezes, and a second later the guy is crying out as Marina twists his arm behind his back" (Lore 71). I see
this behavior extremely reasonable given the circumstances that she was put through and is now enduring. She lost the boy of her dreams and
somebody is now hitting on her. I also can relate her in this way because of how she feels after these terrible events hit her all at once. Mainly it is
when I get into an argument with my parents. I keep on thinking that they are treating me unfairly just because I am there son and I convince myself
that it is there fault or that they refuse to see my side of the story. Either way immediately after I get in the mood that as soon as the littlest things start

A Short Story : A Story?
Ella followed her mother down the narrow streets of mud and stone, between the sagging, grey buildings. It was a long walk, and hard not to slip
and fall in the mud, but by now the stench from the garbage piles was hard to notice. Each new street was like a dirty mirror to the last, and
scrawny cats claimed their territory among the tired, starving people. They were heading deeper into the city, and finally turned onto the cleaner
streets. It was a sudden change, from the broken walls to where men played that they were gods without the immortality of heros. There were no
garbage piles here, and the dry stones felt strange to Ella's small bare feet. They reached the wide open space, where a crowd was steadily
growing, a tense pool of souls, before the proudest building of all. Ella knew this place, the white pillars and the high balcony where sugar words
rained from the sky and left puddles of blood on the smooth pavement. Standing in the crowd, along the walls and street corners, stood the guards in
their metal skin, watching with their metal eyes. "Mommy?" "Yes, love?" "Can I have a flower? I want one of those white ones up there. Can I have
one, please?" "No." "But why? Why Mom?"
"Because that's the way things are." Ella looked up at her face, the sad eyes set in the mask of grime and sweat. She said that a lot, and that was
always the end of it.
And then Ella saw the shadow. The dark human figure was perched on the roof close by. "Mommy, look!"
"Not now, love."

Book Review: Ella Enchanted
I enjoyed your book Ella Enchanted. It was full of descriptive words and detailed writing. I loved the amazing personality you gave Ella because it
made the story full of excitement. The only event in the story that made me upset was the part where Ella's mother passed away. If only she had
eaten the hair in the cutting soup, she would still be alive. I would also like to add that her father was not supportive at all. He told Ella that he was
sorry for her mother's death, but I don't think he meant it. At her mother's funeral, Ella collapsed and broke into tears. Her father pressed her face into
his chest (not to comfort her), but to muffle the sound of her crying. Then, all he said to her was, "Get away from here. Come back when you can be

A Life Worth Remembering
A Life Worth Remembering Significance can be defined as being worthy of attention, and in a world filled to the brim with more than seven
billion people, it can be difficult to decipher who is actually worthy. There are many different qualities and aspects to look at, and there may be a
lot of controversy surrounding the topic, depending upon who is determining the significance; there is no questioning the fact that individuals come
with varying opinions and in response to this, it can be very challenging in choosing who is worthy of attention. In addition, it also raises the
question of what the qualities are that signify importance to the world. In today's world, these qualities are very mixed and significance comes in
many differing categories. A specific category that comes into play is centered around individuals who have made a difference in the world of
music. Music carries a lot of weight due to the gift it gives to the world; especially today, many people use music as an outlet, as something that keeps
them going, as something to make everything wrong, right again. There are many different genres and with each genre comes specific names that
hold significance. An exceptional example of this would be a woman who made a name for herself in jazz music, a woman by the name of Ella
Fitzgerald. Ella Fitzgerald was born on April 25th in 1917 in the state of Virginia. Shortly after her birth, her father passed away and with her mother,

Causes Of The Harlem Renaissance
The Harlem Renaissance was an important "national movement with connections to international developments in art and culture" in the African
American culture (Wintz). The movement also known as the "Jazz Age", started on different dates depending on the viewer's interpretation of the
Harlem Renaissance. For instance, if your interpretation of the Harlem Renaissance is literature, then it began in the year 1924. However, most
people associate the year 1920 with the creation of the Harlem Renaissance. The Great Migration was one major start to the Harlem Renaissance
due to the movement of African Americans from the South to Harlem. The Great Migration was caused by racial discrimination against African
Americans as well as slavery. There were racial groups such as the KKK (Ku Klux Klan) that used violence against African Americans to prove a
point. Not only were the KKK the cause of the Great Migration but as well as the wanting of improvement in lifestyle. Harlem provided the African
Americans the opportunity to receive a better paying job to support their families as well as superior education. As we all know, African Americans
did not have an easy life in the South as a result of slavery and segregation. As a result, many African Americans saw Harlem in New York as an
opportunity to improve their family's lifestyles along with their own. This led to the development of African American culture, such asjazz music, art
and literature. For instance, Chick Webb reflects the ideas, values and contributions of the Harlem Renaissance through his accomplishments and
musical influence. William Henry Webb was a famous swing–era jazz drummer and bandleader, however; he did face many challenges to accomplish
his goal. William Henry Webb was born in Baltimore, Maryland with spinal tuberculosis. Spinal tuberculosis affects the spinal vertebrates, which
causes the individual to have a lump in their back and prevent them from growing like a normal human being. As a result, William Henry Webb was
given the nickname Chick Webb. In addition, his date of birth is unclear due to the lack of documentation during his birth. However, some believe he
was born in the year 1902 while others believe it was 1909. Due to the condition he

Myths and fairy tales have a way of sending an audience into a whole new world. Things are happening that would seem crazy in real life. This new
world is often something everyone wishes they could be apart of. It triggers the creative side of the brain, and allows people to use their imagination.
Cinderella is one of the many fairy tales that allows people to be apart of a different world.
According to Per Ankh, Cinderella first came about in Egypt around the first century BC. Rhodopis a young maiden was born in Greece, but was
kidnapped by pirates and carried to Egypt. Rhodopis became a servant to an old man, where all the other servant girls would taunt her for having

George Gershwin's "The ultimate collection", is a compilation of Gershwin's greatest hits. The compilation is made out of two CD's; the first cd is
Gershwins pieces sung by different jazz singers such as Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Bing Crosby and more… The second cd, is
Gerswhin's famous pieces taken from musical shows such as Porgy and Bess, Rhapsody in Blue, Cuban overture, Funny face and more. First Cd:
The cd starts with the song "Strike up the Band " performed by Oscar Peterson. The piece consists of a piano, cello. This song in my opinion sets the

Very mellow song, very enjoyable.
" S' wonderful" performed by Joe William & Count Basie, one of my favorite songs composed by Gerswhin. Use of typical instruments for jazz
songs (drums, pianos, trumpets…). This song has a very party mood; it is a very upbeat song. The next couple of songs, are basic love songs
/blues songs.
"For you, for me, forever more" performed by Morgan King, in my opinion this song repeats itself from the other love songs, still great performance
by Morgan King. "Who Care's" the title for the song speaks for itself, im getting slowly disappointed of the first cd, the songs basically repeat
themselves, same themes (mostly about love), same kind of instruments used in each song.
"They All laughed" performed by Bing Crosby and Buddy Bergman, great song, very enjoyable and upbeat tune. This song is short but very good.
Orchestral work done very well. This Cd ends with "Embreaceble you" performed by Ella Fitzgerald, i feel very neutral towards this song, it basically
concludes the first cd in a good way. In conclusion for the first cd, i really enjoyed the first parts, the upbeat tunes, and the "jazzy" songs, i was just
disappointed in the second half; for the reason that it was very

Janis Siegel, who has won nine Grammy's and has been nominated for another seventeen Grammy's is most famous for her diverse musical talent.
Janis Siegel was born on July 23rd, 1952 in Brooklyn, New York. She began learning about music at an early age and she began singing with a trio
girl group at the age of twelve. The group was called The Young Generation. By the time she had graduated high school, she and her band had already
released two singles both produced by Richard Perry. Janis Siegel says, "At that time, I was exclusively listening to pop and folk music. When Motown
became popular, I fell head over heels for it" [ ]. In high school and college though, she said John Coltrane was her musical idol for jazz. Afterthe band
The Young Generation had graduated high school, they transitioned to becoming an acoustic folk type of band. They then renamed themselves as

Ella Fitzgerald – The Gold Collection
The overall illusion of Ella Fitzgerald's The Gold Collection album is a reflection of the trials and tribulations of love. The collection consists of many
tracks that have passionate lyrical value, that the words instantly relate to those moments in life when you are struggling with devotion for a significant
other. The album is arranged in a precise manner, where those melancholy and heartrending songs are preceded by upbeat, catchy tunes, that even with
the gloomy lyrics, make you want to return to your childhood, where everything was simple and uncomplicated.
Certain songs, like "Angel Heart" and "Sophisticated Love" are prime examples of the slow, and remorseful songs where Ella's strong ... Show more

Other songs on the album are the perfect contrast to compliment the unhappy songs of love and tenderness. "A tisket– A tasket" is such a silly song,
that although the lyrics are simple and repetitive, it makes you feel like you are a little five year old child, with no cares in the world. This song
immediately puts a smile on your face, and makes you want to tap and bob your head to the beat. The last track, "Just a Simple Melody" is also one of
those cheerful songs, that has minimal lyrical value, but the moderate quick pace, and the extensive play on the syllables of words and consonants
makes you laugh. The rhyming of the verses is an effective quality, that puts the words right into your mouth, and sooner than you can believe, you're
singing along to the lively music.
One difference from the beginning of the album to the end, is that the first half concentrates more on Ella's voice, while the second half is a larger
concentration of arrangements with instrumental bands. In the beginning, you get to listen more to tunes where there is more emphasis on the lyrics,
and the instrumentalists are only background accompaniment to Ella. However, in the second portion there is more of a sharing of the role, where the
band has solos and Ella mimics the tune of the band with her singing. The difference provides good variety to the album, where you get a taste of both

Duke Ellington : The Duke's Serenader
Edward Kennedy "Duke" Ellington was born April 29th, 1899 in Washington DC to James Edward Ellington and Daisy Ellington. His parents
were both pianists, and Duke would later follow suit. At the age of seven Duke began piano lessons, but didn't really gain interest in piano till he
was 14. At age 15, Ellington wrote his first song, the 'Soda Fountain Rag'. He did not know how to read and write music at this time in his life, so
his tune was crafted by ear. Later, Ellington would learn to read sheet music from Oliver "Doc" Perry, another known pianist. After more
education, Duke began to play gigs in clubs and cafes in his home city. His love for music was so strong at this time that Duke actually turned down
an art scholarship, and dropped out of school to pursue his passion and make his full time career his music.1 When he was 20 years old, Duke met
Sonny Greer, a fellow musician who's focus was percussion and drums. This acquaintance helped encourage Ellington to become a professional
musician. From here, Ellington would use every chance he had to build his music business, asking strangers if they knew how to play. In 1917
Ellington formed his first group, The Duke's Serenaders. Duke was both the pianist and the booking agent for the group, and the group was successful
during the time, especially because it had both White and African–American artists among its members.1 Later, Ellington would decide to leave DC
and move to Harlem, New York, joining the artistic movement that was happening there. Eventually, Ellington and his group would do several songs
with Adelaide Hall. One of the most popular songs created by the artists was 'Creole Love Call', which became a worldwide sensation. His fame
would only grow from here. Eventually, in 1956, Ellington would perform at the Newport Jazz Festival. His concert there would make international
headlines, and even make TIME magazine. After many musical achievements, and writing around 1000 compositions, Ellington died May 24th, 1974
at age 75.1
One of Duke's more popular albums, titled 'Such Sweet Thunder' and released in 1957 was created as a 12 part suite representing Shakespeare's plays
and characters, and was intended for the 1957

Comparison Between Ella Fitzgerald And Louis Armstrong
The collaborations between Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong demonstrate some of jazz's finest performances. One of their duets is, "You Won't Be
Satisfied", in which they share a hopelessly romantic moment. After the brief instrumental introduction, the pair take their turns singing the same
chorus for followed by a collaborative effort with a short solo trumpet performance between the second and third sections. Fitzgerald starts off the first
chorus singing to Armstrong very casually but quickly allows her classic sassy and emotional vocal tone to shine through by the end of the third line.
The chorus sings out about how the singer tries so hard to please the other but the companion does not reciprocate the same feelings; the other side

Louis Armstrong: Stcat Singing In Music And Jazz Music
Louis Armstrong shaping scat singing to make it achieve posterity Louis Armstrong (1901–1971) is surely one of the most famous and incredible jazz
singer and trumpet player. He influenced widely, and still does, jazz music. But there is something that only jazz specialists or some aficionados know:
he actually reinvented a brand new genre of vocal jazz, the scat singing. And I said "reinvented" on purpose. Indeed, though Louis Armstrong's
recording Heebie Jeebies in the mid 1926 is often cited as the first song to use scatting, there are some earlier examples of artists' pieces of work that
could be considered as premises of scat singing. There were even some who believed that scat singing had its origins in the music of Western Africa....

But even if he still is the uncontested master of scat singing thanks to his talent in innovation, many very talented singers followed his paths. Annie
Ross, a singer, summarized what was happening among vocalists at that time in one simple sentence: "The [scat] music was so exciting, everyone
wanted to do it" (Singing Jazz: the Singers and their Styles, Crowther & Pinfold, p.130). And that is what occurred, but some artists did it with more
talent than others. The main ones, in my opinion, are Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan and Eddie Jefferson. Ella Fitzgerald was known for her imitation
of jazz instruments (of the horn especially) and for her three octaves, she had a very sturdy technique (perfect diction, phrasing, etc.) and a pure
voice. She could improvise any kind of solo in a very natural and unforced manner. In opposition to that, Sarah Vaughan was a free lancer in singing,
she underwent training as a musician at the beginning. But her "wondrous voice", as the music critic Scott Yanow calls it, and her knowledge in
harmony made her one of the greatest scat singers. She also has a very singular way to perform her songs, she could be sensual and funny at the same
time. Concerning Eddie Jefferson, he sort of "jumped on the bandwagon". Initially he was a pro in vocalese and a first–rate lyricist, but when scat
singing was very

and the way it impacts the way teens think about themselves. For example, two contemporary young adult stories that have similarities and differences
are Ella Enchanted and Cinderella that can impact a teen's way of thinking mainly young girls but can influence boys as well. For instance, Cinderella
is a classic form of literature that develops ideas about adolescents. In Cinderella, she was the only daughter of a wealthy man who had lost his wife.
He remarries this women who was extremely cruel and self–interested; along with her two daughters. They all disliked Cinderella who was a very
kindhearted and beautiful and resembled her mother. Her stepmother and stepsisters ridiculed her and treated her like an outcast of the family, as if she
was taking up space. Cinderella devoted a lot of her time cleaning and doing all the chores around the house. She was very obedient and her animal
friends would often question on why she wouldn't just stand up against her evil stepmother and stepsisters for herself and take what is rightfully hers.
However, Cinderella was a prisoner in her own life who was forbidden from any form of outside activities. Ella Enchanted is a more moralized

Show

The book and the movie share many of the same components in their ending scenes, a few examples being apparent expression of joy identified on
every major or minor protagonist and the collective atmosphere of success. Ella Enchanted ends with the wedding of the two main characters and the
trope of Вґhappily ever afterВґ, similar or nearly exact to how this concept was portrayed in the film.
Ella Enchanted's epilogue showed the life of Ella and Char after all of the previous chaotic events, which added to the final
resolution. All in all, the endings of Ella Enchanted and its novel counterpart are equal and similar in almost every way until small details change the
directions of the

Monologue About Lockers

  • 1. Monologue About Lockers (The scene opens on a school hallway. Lockers line one side. They are split in half: there is one locker on top, and one on the bottom. There is a group of high school girls talking and giggling next to the lockers. Ella Clark is one of the girls, and she is opening a locker on top, while talking to another girl. Enter Dahlia White. She kneels down at one of the lockers on the bottom, and starts to open it.) ELLA. (Sarcastically) Hey Dahlia, I like your glasses! (Dahlia ignores her. The other girls laugh. As the teasing goes on, however, they slowly stop laughing.) ELLA. Four Eyes, what are you doing this weekend? Going out with friends? Oh, wait, you don't have any friends. You're just trying to make me look bad in front of everyone. You talk about all the bad things I've done in my life. And, yeah, I get it, I've done bad things. But you don't say anything about the good things. I have done good things in my life, but for some reason, they're not in any of your stupid stalker tapes. You don't care if I finally get what I deserve. You just want to make sure Steve Lewis loses every case against you. But I don't care about your stupid rivalry. I don't want to go to Hell, or suffer from "eternal punishment", or whatever. You're only a bully! (Muttering to herself) It's just like Jimmy Woods all over again. LEWIS. Jimmy who? ELLA. Jimmy Woods. He used to bully me in preschool. You know, beat me up, call me names, take away all my food. I was lucky I didn't starve to death. My parents didn't do anything about it, they didn't believe me. LEWIS. Mr. Reed, when did you say Ella started misbehaving? REED. Around the time she started school. Why? LEWIS. (To himself) So this would've been right before. (Aloud) Could we consider the fact that there was a reason Ella started being a bully? Because she herself was being bullied? (He turns quickly to face Reed, and points an accusing finger at him.) Hey! Why weren't there any tapes showing the bullying? They should've been there, as a document of Ella's ... • 2. Ella Fitzgerald Essay examples Ella Fitzgerald To some, Ella Fitzgerald had a hard life from the moment she was born. To others, Ella had it made. Ella Fitzgerald was born April 25th 1917 in Virginia. Soon afterwards, her parents separated and Ella followed her mother to Yonkers, New York. Ella was barely a teenager when her mother died. While still coping with this tragedy, Ella found herself failing school and having frequent run–ins with the police. She was also abused by her caretakers while in the custody of a reform school. At age 15 Ella ran away from school along with the horrible memories of that time. Somehow she managed to support herself through the Great Depression, a feat that is most commendable. Ella found her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ella's voice had a sweetness to it that was rarely accompanied by such a wide range as hers. Her style has been described as effortless, natural, flexible, ageless and accessible. Many call her "The First Lady of Song". She started as a swing singer, moved to bebop, perfected scat and jazz and could sing modern or classic songs. Artists whose songs she stylized included Louis Armstrong, Cole Porter, Johnny Mercer, Irving Berlin,Duke Ellington and the Gershwins. Throughout her life she collaborated on more than 250 albums, sold more than 40 million of those albums and won 13 Grammy awards. Her influence soon spread throughout the musical circuit and her singing style was much imitated in the 1950s and 1960s. Ella's trademark of "scat" singing (a technique in which the singer improvises as an instrument would and uses nonsense syllables) was taken up by many male and female jazz vocalists. Sarah Vaughn, Billie Holiday and the modern day Joss Stone all show signs of Ella's influence. Ella is also credited with inspiring the great Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennet and Mel Torme to some extent. Although Ella's influence through style is great, perhaps her greatest achievement can be noticed in her career as a whole. • 3. The Characteristics Of The Jazz Style Of Ella Fitzgerald Learning a great deal about musicality, the business side of music and how to take care of herself, the next few years brought a great deal of success to Chick Webb and herself. With the raise of the new jazz style, bebop, jazz music moved from the diatonic conventions of the swing era to more chromatic harmonies, complex rhythms and more notes and chord options. This style caught Ella's attention and during her time with the Chick Webb band, she got her start improvising in the bop style. Ella is said to have described the early days of the bop revolution as something of a nightmare. "I felt that I was being left behind, and I was," she says. A few years later Ella found herself as the guest touring with Gillespie's band. She was thrilled to listen to this new music day in and day out on the road and quickly found she had enough musicianship and "ears" or ability to hear the intricacies of this hipper jazz. Ella Fitzgerald became an expert with the new modern rhythms and harmonies and her improvisation and musicianship as a singer improved drastically. Her inspirations during this era were Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie and she was able to imitate their playing style and the timbre of the saxophone and trumpet. Not only was she able to copy their playing style but also could sound just like Parker and Gillespie. This is made apparent in her solo from the live recording of "How High the Moon". This song is a great song for any beginning scat singer to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Ella Fitzgerald Research Paper The Harlem Renaissance was an artistic, social, and cultural explosion during the 1920s in Harlem, York. This flourishing of African –American culture was an accomplishment in itself, given the times. The early 1900s was a difficult time for African–American people, and a difficult time for women, so one can imagine the difficulties that a woman of color would have endured. Ella Fitzgerald defied those odds, transformed the face of the jazz world, and paved a way for other African–American women to achieve stardom. Ella Fitzgerald faced a sundry difficulties before her days as pioneering singer. Her father disappeared shortly after Ella was born, and her mother quickly moved on to another man. Subsequently, the three of them moved to New York, where Ella began going to school in 1923. Her family, town, and school all fell significantly below the poverty line. When Ella was fifteen, her mother, Tempie, passed away. She stayed living with her stepfather for a short while after her mother's death, but he began mistreating her. An aunt of hers took Ella in, but Ella eventually ran away with no money, but big dreams. (Nicholson 4–11). Ella originally wanted to be a dancer. She went to an amateur night contest at the legendary Apollo Theatre to perform a dance. Fitzgerald herself said of that night "I never thought I was a singer, when I first went on the stage, I went out to dance. • 6. Trope In Enchanted Adults historically love to glorify the idealism and emotionality of childhood through storytelling. From Mark Twain's perennial wild boy Huckleberry Finn, who befriends a runaway slave despite the prejudices of adult society, to Hiccup of the 2010 film How to Train Your Dragon, the only one of his village who recognizes that dragons are not evil but actually kind animals, American media has no shortage of children who are somehow able to see more than their adult counterparts. Patricia Read Russell's 1983 essay "Parallel Romantic Fantasies: Barrie's Peter Pan and Spielberg's E.T.: The Extraterrestrial" traces the echos of the 1904 play Peter Pan in Spielberg's then recent film, E.T. and one of the parallels she highlights is this very concept. Russell borrows from Wordsworth in her essay to concisely describe the trope of achild's ability to see more clearly than adults, referring to it as the "visionary gleam". Russell's essay underlines the presence of this trope in E. T.'s protagonist, a ten–year–old boy named Elliot, and in his bond with the title character, a friendly lost alien. Over twenty–five years later, the same trope is explored in Disney's parody film Enchanted but through the lense of a young girl. The concept of the "visionary gleam" of childhood perpetuated by Spielberg's film and Enchanted reflects an inherent desire of adults to return to a simpler, more emotionally driven period of their lives which may or may not have actually existed, and this ... (Though many biographical sources give her birth date as 1918, her birth certificate and school records show her to have been born a year earlier.) Often referred to as the "first lady of song," Fitzgerald enjoyed a career that stretched over six decades. With her lucid intonation and a range of three octaves, she became the preeminent jazz singer of her generation, recording over 2,000 songs, selling over 40 million albums, and winning 13 Grammy Awards, including one in 1967 for Lifetime Achievement. She began to work with an improvisational style of singing called "scat," or "bop," singing, based on the complex, spontaneous instrumental style of Dizzy Gillespie. In 1945, Fitzgerald recorded a scat version of "Flying Home," which became one of the most influential vocal jazz records of the decade. While on tour with Gillespie's band in 1946, Fitzgerald met and fell in love with the bassist Ray Brown, whom she married in 1947. (She had been previously married to Benjamin Kornegay, a shipyard worker, but their two–year marriage was annulled in 1943.) Fitzgerald and Brown were divorced in 1952, but they continued to perform together in Brown's own jazz combo. Meanwhile, Fitzgerald had begun to work with Norman Granz, the impresario of a popular series called "Jazz at the Philharmonic." In 1955, she was the first artist signed to Granz's new record label, Verve, and began recording a series of "songbook" albums. The first offering, a two–record set entitled Ella Fitzgerald Sings the Cole Porter Songbook (1956) led to eight other songbooks, each devoted to the work of a particular composer or composing team: Harold Arlen, Irving Berlin, Duke Ellington, Jerome Kern, Frank Loesser, Johnny Mercer, Rodgers and Hart, and George and Ira Gershwin. • 8. Themes Of Feminism In Harriet The Spy It is often questioned whether tween literature is too mature for its targeted age group. With themes of murder, sexual abuse, neglect, and other forms of violence, both physical and psychological, there seems to be one topic that is slightly more prevalent when speaking about tween literature. Tween literature and culture is often marketed towards young girls and their parents, because of this, it becomes easy to talk about themes of feminism in tween literature. More specifically, due to the time period in which tween culture became mainstream, postfeminism is a topic that is often heavily discussed around tween literature. Both Gail Levine's novel, Ella Enchanted, as well as Louise Fitzhugh's novel Harriet the Spy, can both be analyzed using a postfeminist lense. By using a postfeminist lense in analyzing these books, the issues of postfeminism become apparent when addressing issues such as a false sense of choice for young girls, an idea that they must be ashamed for who they are and the views that they hold. It is further complicated when it becomes apparent that due to postfeminist ideology, women, and specifically young girls have lost the ability to articulate sexism when it affects them. Through these points of contention regarding postfeminism, it becomes aparent that society is not quite ready to hold postfeminist views, since there is still an imbalance of power that women face on a day to day basis. It is important to have a baseline understanding of what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. A Short Story : A Story PROLOGUE There Ella stood amongst the crowd on a windy summer day, the sun was shining bright and the birds were chirping. It was a perfect day, but to the people in the crowd nothing was perfect about this day. She looked around and all she could see for what seemed like miles was grave after grave. Sadness was present on the faces of everyone in the crowd, some people had tears streaming down their face. Not even the beauty of the world around them could take them out of the depression they all lived in. The minister stood before the crowd above the open grave, everyone's eyes were on him waiting to hear the words he would say to help bring closure to those amongst the crowd. "We are here today to mourn the death of the one who was taken from us to soon in life." Ella looked over at her mom, tears were streaming down her mother's face, she wished she could do something to stop the pain, but she knew her efforts would be meaningless and that her mother just needed to grieve. Her father stood on the other side of her, he to had tears streaming down his face. Ella had never truly seen him cry before, she had always seen her dad as to toughest man on earth, to her he was invincible. As she looked at him she noticed that he no longer looked invincible, all he looked was broken. Ella looked around her and noticed that every who had gathered on this day at the Crest–Hill Cemetery looked broken inside, as if they were missing an important piece of themselves that they know will never return. "A life has been taken away from us this week, a beautiful life. No parent should know the pain of losing a child, but today we do so mournfully bury a child. We come here to mourn a life cut short." The minister proceeded on with the eulogy, but Ella didn't hear a thing. She never understood how she got to this moment, what little thing happened in her life that lead her down this road. What could she have done differently, as to escape this fate. Ella's mind wondered off to the moment she believed started it all. She believes it all began at the start of junior year, last year, the day she met him. CHAPTER ONE Ella wanted to spend her last day of her summer break lying in bed watching movies, and much on ... If the cast and crew have done their job, everything becomes real – the characters, plot and especially the setting. A thrilling location becomes a virtual character. Starring Boris Karloff as Imhotep/Ardath Bey; Zita Johann as Helen Grosvenor/Princess Ankhesenamon. As a child, this movie about a man returned to life after thousands of years got me hooked on the study of Ancient Egypt. Although filmed entirely in the USA, the set designs evoked in me the lure of the ruins of Cairo, Luxor and the arcane Valley of the Kings. Filmed only 10 years after the discovery of King Tut 's tomb, the movie expresses the world 's wonder and excitement at the unveiling of all those artifacts and gold. And malefic curses. Book Vs Movie Ella Enchanted Gail Carson Levine's fantasy novel of Ella Enchanted was adapted into the film Ella Enchanted with a similar basic concept, though the story elements in both forms of media differ in ways that alter the themes of the original story. One minor identifiable alteration from the book is the setting, which barely changes physically in the movie. Another change between the two is the opening, which has a similar basis in both versions of the story. Also, the characters in Ella Enchanted differ so greatly from their original personas that they almost seem to belong to different stories altogether! The plot differences between the novel and the film can be easily recognized as they practically tell alternating tales. Finally, the classic "happily ever ... Ella Enchanted ends with the wedding of the two main characters and the trope of Вґhappily ever afterВґ, similar or nearly exact to how this concept was portrayed in the film. Although, the details in the final scenes or chapters differ in certain ways. For example, the ending of Ella Enchanted is solely focused on the two main protagonists while the film ends its story with a grand celebration of all of the characters, showing community and a unified cast. As well, the movie excludes the epilogue chapter present in the book. • 12. Comparison Of Black Beauty And Ella Enchanted The books Black Beauty by Anna Sewell and Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine may seem worlds apart at first glance. Black Beauty is a classic tale about a horse in the 1800's as he is passed from owner to owner, each treating him with different levels of respect and kindness, showing whatever social class, age, or gender someone may be or belong to, kindness is a choice, and it really does affect people and animals. Ella Enchanted is a more recent story, but no less compelling. It is a creative retelling of Cinderella, with a protagonist cursed to obedience by a fairy, yet she never stops trying to break the curse. In the end she risks everything at the three balls with the prince – only to have things turn out in a way she never could... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They are happy when with people who are good, like the Birtwicks, Jerry, Mandy (Ella's fairy godmother), and Char (the prince). However, it is only a problem when selfish people are giving the orders, like Hattie commanding Ella to be a slave, and the earl's wife making his head stretch back painfully with the bearing rein. While the specifics of the conflicts are different, their general idea is the same. The characters are different, both at their surfaces and cores, but they are also similar on the inside as well. Ella is a female human, while Black Beauty is a male horse. However, Ella goes out and actively tries to break the curse (like running away to find Lucinda), while Black Beauty only does his best to follow commands, even if a stone is breaking apart his foot. They both refuse to give up, carrying on in their own ways. They make the best of what they have, and find their own joys, among their hardships, like Ella learning another language with her friend Areidia, and Black Beauty playing in the fields although he was working hard as Jerry's cab horse. Both characters are in similar situations, and while they respond differently, they both persevere. Both themes are about kindness and freedom, but they explore them differently. • 13. Gail Carson Levine's Ella Enchanted For Summer Reading, I read Ella Enchanted. Ella Enchanted is based off of the story of Cinderella mostly towards the end. The book has fairies, magic, glass slippers, and even the pumpkin carriage just like in Cinderella! Ella's name came from the end of the name Cinderella. The Cinder part is supposed to mean dirty or uncleansed. Levine was born and raised in New York City, New York. Her books always include magic and mythical creatures. After reading the book, I found that it probably takes place around the medieval time period because there are many princes and princesses. The genre is Fantasy. I realized this when Levine brought up all of the magic, fairies, elves, and ogres. The author uses allusions, epiphanies, and similes in the story. I like the magic and the fairies, but most of all, I love the storyline! There are so many twists and turns that make you laugh and cry. I thought Ella Enchanted was a good book. • 14. Traditional Princessed From Snow White And The Traditional... Growing up as a 90's child, Disney films played an important role in my childhood. As a female viewer, Disney princesses played a bigger role in deciding which Disney films to watch. As the years went on, new Disney princesses were introduced with different styles compared to the traditional Disney princesses. A traditional Disney princess can be defined as one of the first princessesWalt Disney created, specifically during the 20th century, and the newer princesses can be defined as the princesses Disney created in the 21st century. Although Disney continues to create princesses, the roles and views of the newer princesses in Disney movies have changed, as they are seen as more independent, adventurous, and unfocused on finding their prince charming, compared to the older traditional Disney princess films. In this essay, I will be comparing a traditional princess, Snow White from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, with one of the recent princesses Disney has introduced in recent years, Anna and Elsa from Frozen. After Walt Disney acted out scenes of his movie idea to his co–workers, the production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs began. Disney brought in real actors and real life animals to his studios to have animators study and reproduce their movements in their film. With over 2000 pictures created and cleaned by hundreds of workers and a million and a half dollars spent, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was released in December of 1937 and received a standing ovation ... It was a long walk, and hard not to slip and fall in the mud, but by now the stench from the garbage piles was hard to notice. There were no garbage piles here, and the dry stones felt strange to Ella's small bare feet. A Life Worth Remembering A Life Worth Remembering Significance can be defined as being worthy of attention, and in a world filled to the brim with more than seven billion people, it can be difficult to decipher who is actually worthy. There are many different qualities and aspects to look at, and there may be a lot of controversy surrounding the topic, depending upon who is determining the significance; there is no questioning the fact that individuals come with varying opinions and in response to this, it can be very challenging in choosing who is worthy of attention. In addition, it also raises the question of what the qualities are that signify importance to the world. In today's world, these qualities are very mixed and significance comes in many differing categories. A specific category that comes into play is centered around individuals who have made a difference in the world of music. Music carries a lot of weight due to the gift it gives to the world; especially today, many people use music as an outlet, as something that keeps them going, as something to make everything wrong, right again. There are many different genres and with each genre comes specific names that hold significance. An exceptional example of this would be a woman who made a name for herself in jazz music, a woman by the name of Ella Fitzgerald. For instance, if your interpretation of the Harlem Renaissance is literature, then it began in the year 1924. However, most people associate the year 1920 with the creation of the Harlem Renaissance. The Great Migration was one major start to the Harlem Renaissance due to the movement of African Americans from the South to Harlem. The Great Migration was caused by racial discrimination against African Americans as well as slavery. There were racial groups such as the KKK (Ku Klux Klan) that used violence against African Americans to prove a point. Not only were the KKK the cause of the Great Migration but as well as the wanting of improvement in lifestyle. Harlem provided the African Americans the opportunity to receive a better paying job to support their families as well as superior education. As we all know, African Americans did not have an easy life in the South as a result of slavery and segregation. As a result, many African Americans saw Harlem in New York as an opportunity to improve their family's lifestyles along with their own. This led to the development of African American culture, such asjazz music, art and literature. For instance, Chick Webb reflects the ideas, values and contributions of the Harlem Renaissance through his accomplishments and musical influence. William Henry Webb was a famous swing–era jazz drummer and bandleader, however; he did face many challenges to accomplish his goal. William Henry Webb was born in Baltimore, Maryland with spinal tuberculosis. Spinal tuberculosis affects the spinal vertebrates, which causes the individual to have a lump in their back and prevent them from growing like a normal human being. As a result, William Henry Webb was given the nickname Chick Webb. In addition, his date of birth is unclear due to the lack of documentation during his birth. The compilation is made out of two CD's; the first cd is Gershwins pieces sung by different jazz singers such as Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Bing Crosby and more… The second cd, is Gerswhin's famous pieces taken from musical shows such as Porgy and Bess, Rhapsody in Blue, Cuban overture, Funny face and more. " S' wonderful" performed by Joe William & Count Basie, one of my favorite songs composed by Gerswhin. Use of typical instruments for jazz songs (drums, pianos, trumpets…). This song has a very party mood; it is a very upbeat song. The next couple of songs, are basic love songs /blues songs. "For you, for me, forever more" performed by Morgan King, in my opinion this song repeats itself from the other love songs, still great performance by Morgan King. "Who Care's" the title for the song speaks for itself, im getting slowly disappointed of the first cd, the songs basically repeat themselves, same themes (mostly about love), same kind of instruments used in each song. "They All laughed" performed by Bing Crosby and Buddy Bergman, great song, very enjoyable and upbeat tune. This song is short but very good. Orchestral work done very well. This Cd ends with "Embreaceble you" performed by Ella Fitzgerald, i feel very neutral towards this song, it basically concludes the first cd in a good way. The collection consists of many tracks that have passionate lyrical value, that the words instantly relate to those moments in life when you are struggling with devotion for a significant other. The album is arranged in a precise manner, where those melancholy and heartrending songs are preceded by upbeat, catchy tunes, that even with the gloomy lyrics, make you want to return to your childhood, where everything was simple and uncomplicated. "A tisket– A tasket" is such a silly song, that although the lyrics are simple and repetitive, it makes you feel like you are a little five year old child, with no cares in the world. This song immediately puts a smile on your face, and makes you want to tap and bob your head to the beat. The last track, "Just a Simple Melody" is also one of those cheerful songs, that has minimal lyrical value, but the moderate quick pace, and the extensive play on the syllables of words and consonants makes you laugh. The rhyming of the verses is an effective quality, that puts the words right into your mouth, and sooner than you can believe, you're singing along to the lively music. One difference from the beginning of the album to the end, is that the first half concentrates more on Ella's voice, while the second half is a larger concentration of arrangements with instrumental bands. In the beginning, you get to listen more to tunes where there is more emphasis on the lyrics, and the instrumentalists are only background accompaniment to Ella. However, in the second portion there is more of a sharing of the role, where the band has solos and Ella mimics the tune of the band with her singing. • 34. Duke Ellington : The Duke's Serenader Edward Kennedy "Duke" Ellington was born April 29th, 1899 in Washington DC to James Edward Ellington and Daisy Ellington. His parents were both pianists, and Duke would later follow suit. At the age of seven Duke began piano lessons, but didn't really gain interest in piano till he was 14. At age 15, Ellington wrote his first song, the 'Soda Fountain Rag'. He did not know how to read and write music at this time in his life, so his tune was crafted by ear. Later, Ellington would learn to read sheet music from Oliver "Doc" Perry, another known pianist. After more education, Duke began to play gigs in clubs and cafes in his home city. His love for music was so strong at this time that Duke actually turned down an art scholarship, and dropped out of school to pursue his passion and make his full time career his music.1 When he was 20 years old, Duke met Sonny Greer, a fellow musician who's focus was percussion and drums. This acquaintance helped encourage Ellington to become a professional musician. From here, Ellington would use every chance he had to build his music business, asking strangers if they knew how to play. In 1917 Ellington formed his first group, The Duke's Serenaders. Duke was both the pianist and the booking agent for the group, and the group was successful during the time, especially because it had both White and African–American artists among its members.1 Later, Ellington would decide to leave DC and move to Harlem, New York, joining the artistic movement that was happening there. Eventually, Ellington and his group would do several songs with Adelaide Hall. One of the most popular songs created by the artists was 'Creole Love Call', which became a worldwide sensation. His fame would only grow from here. Eventually, in 1956, Ellington would perform at the Newport Jazz Festival. His concert there would make international headlines, and even make TIME magazine. After many musical achievements, and writing around 1000 compositions, Ellington died May 24th, 1974 at age 75.1 One of Duke's more popular albums, titled 'Such Sweet Thunder' and released in 1957 was created as a 12 part suite representing Shakespeare's plays and characters, and was intended for the 1957 ... • 35. Levine was born and raised in New York City, New York. Her books always include magic and mythical creatures. After reading the book, I found that it probably takes place around the medieval time period because there are many princes and princesses. The genre is Fantasy. One of their duets is, "You Won't Be Satisfied", in which they share a hopelessly romantic moment. After the brief instrumental introduction, the pair take their turns singing the same chorus for followed by a collaborative effort with a short solo trumpet performance between the second and third sections. Fitzgerald starts off the first chorus singing to Armstrong very casually but quickly allows her classic sassy and emotional vocal tone to shine through by the end of the third line. • 37. Louis Armstrong: Stcat Singing In Music And Jazz Music Louis Armstrong shaping scat singing to make it achieve posterity Louis Armstrong (1901–1971) is surely one of the most famous and incredible jazz singer and trumpet player. He influenced widely, and still does, jazz music. But there is something that only jazz specialists or some aficionados know: he actually reinvented a brand new genre of vocal jazz, the scat singing. And I said "reinvented" on purpose. Indeed, though Louis Armstrong's recording Heebie Jeebies in the mid 1926 is often cited as the first song to use scatting, there are some earlier examples of artists' pieces of work that could be considered as premises of scat singing. There were even some who believed that scat singing had its origins in the music of Western Africa.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But even if he still is the uncontested master of scat singing thanks to his talent in innovation, many very talented singers followed his paths. Annie Ross, a singer, summarized what was happening among vocalists at that time in one simple sentence: "The [scat] music was so exciting, everyone wanted to do it" (Singing Jazz: the Singers and their Styles, Crowther & Pinfold, p.130). And that is what occurred, but some artists did it with more talent than others. The main ones, in my opinion, are Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan and Eddie Jefferson. Ella Fitzgerald was known for her imitation of jazz instruments (of the horn especially) and for her three octaves, she had a very sturdy technique (perfect diction, phrasing, etc.) and a pure voice. She could improvise any kind of solo in a very natural and unforced manner. In opposition to that, Sarah Vaughan was a free lancer in singing, she underwent training as a musician at the beginning. But her "wondrous voice", as the music critic Scott Yanow calls it, and her knowledge in harmony made her one of the greatest scat singers. She also has a very singular way to perform her songs, she could be sensual and funny at the same time. Concerning Eddie Jefferson, he sort of "jumped on the bandwagon". Initially he was a pro in vocalese and a first–rate lyricist, but when scat singing was very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
