Stranger Things Analysis
Aaron Bady's review of the hit show Stranger Things defends the show and its use of "play".
Stranger Things quite remarkably manages to encapture elements of the sci–fi, fantasy, romance, and
horror genres, making it a universally liked show. However, some critics have disagreed. First, Bady
restates the circulating conversations about the show. These particular conversations state that the
show is not original. Bady addresses that these findings are indeed correct but "do not matter." Then,
he discusses why it "does not matter" and why there ought to be some other standard than originality
when critiquing artwork. More broadly, Bady appeals to the television community as a whole and he
suggests that its extreme concern with source...show more content...
Stranger Things––while it might seem so with its corrupt government plot and female hero––isn't
trying to make a political statement, or for that matter, any statement. The moment of this article
is particularly important to note for its extremely heavy influence on TV and entertainment as a
whole. The most apparent binary Bady mentions in his article is the contrast between viewers
who are aware of the source material of Stranger Things and those who are not. Take the monster,
for instance. Bady says, "there is also another derivation of the creature, one that describes the
creature's career as a Dungeons and Dragons monster, and which is animated by the necessary
ignorance of all of those previous origins, which reduces it to a name and a general feeling. The
two are separated by a vast aesthetic chasm; the first requires you to know, the second not to
know." Bady says the monster in Stranger Things "belongs to the second category, because it
bears no necessary relationship to any of the other Demogorgons; it just is whatever it is." Put
simply, Stranger Things only copied the 80s vibe and Dungeons and Dragons for the sake of
asthestic, to look cool. Quite frankly, it wasn't counting on its audience to be familiar with the
demogorgon's roots nor does the audience need to know in order to appreciate the show and the
show's message. Bady used this example of the demogorgon and the binary of knowing the
origins––or not

Minecraft Essay
Minecraft is a game where the player uses their imagination to shape the world around them using
the resources they find. In the world everything is shaped like a block or a cube, this includes the
trees, the dirt, the water, the clouds, even the sun, everything. This simple game hasn't even been
released yet but has already sold over one million copies. Minecraft was created by one man,
Markus "Notch" Persson, and this is his story. What makes the story of Minecraft so unique is that
it was created by Notch and only Notch. Notch had a job before Minecraft, working on games for a
company. He started to work on Minecraft in his free time but after a giant popularity spike he
realized that it could be a hit, so he quit his job and began...show more content...
The game sells around 10,000 copies per day. It has become a cultural phenomenon and on
January 12, 2011 sales passed the one million mark, but they continued to rise. With popularity
increasing, big name comics like "Penny Arcade" and "Hejibits" discovered the game too and
published comic strips about minecraft, leading to even further sales. Minecraft makes $250,000
a day and continues to do so. On June 13, 2011, Minecraft passed 2.5 million sales. Today Mojang
has 10 employees. Markus Persson, Jens Bergensten, Daniel Kaplan, Junkboy, Jakob Porser, Carl
Manneh, Tobias Mollstam, Aron Neiminen, Daniel Frisk, and Daniel Rosenfeld. These few
people make up the team that continues to work towards Minecraft's future. But with so few
employees things take time. Even though the game has not been officially released, people who
buy the game get a copy of what it is right now as the updates are being pushed out. With such
success Mojang is the target of some heavy criticism from blogs, critics, and even their own fans.
One speculation from fans is that Minecraft will be the company's 1 hit wonder. What happens if it
truly is a one hit wonder? Will the company go down under? Will it be the end of Mojang? Will
they join a publisher in order to stay afloat and lose their title of "indie?" Another speculation
concerns Mojang's next game that has absolutely nothing to do with Minecraft, not even in the same
genre. What if nobody likes the game? What

Essay The Dangers of Technology
The Dangers of Technology
Within the past two years computers have become a new way of doing business, enjoying various
forms of entertainment, and interacting with others for the majority of our nation. Almost every
aspect of technical work in industry today involves the computer in some way. It is hard to find
something in the world at this present time that wasn't either made by a computer program, or houses
a computer of its own. Keeping this in mind while reading Ray Kurzweil's article "The Virtual
Thomas Edison" makes one realize just how much humans depend on computers, and Kurzweil's
hypothesizes that "Within three decades machines will be as intelligent as human beings"(Kurzweil,
pars 16). Kurweil continues, by stating,...show more content...
If this prediction in fact does manifest itself it could mean an expansion of human brainpower and
dramatic decrease in disease among the population. There even exists the possibility that these
medical robots could eliminate the need for most modern day medicines. The entire idea of using
computerized implants was initially based upon current research and therapy being done using
cochlear implants for the deaf and neural implants, which are used to help treat Parkinson's patients.
Despite some of his positive statements about nanobots, Kurzweil does not end his discussion on the
topic with such optimism. He delves in the potential evils that may arise with the use of nanobots.
He believes that nanobots could also be used against people without anyone knowing because of
their germ–like size. "New concerns will include such questions as 'Who is controlling the nanobots?'
and 'Whom are the nanobots talking to?' For example, organizations (e.g., governments, extremist
groups) could distribute trillions of undetectable nanobots that could then monitor, influence, or even
control our thoughts and actions"(Kurzweil, pars 10). He also states that the nanobots could be used
to create diseases that only the computers have a cure for. The nanobots could use their extensive
knowledge of the human anatomy to create virulent diseases far worse than nature could ever
concoct.

Essay on Organ Sales
Organ Sales: Legalize for the Greater Good
Every day, numerous people across the world stop their lives for four hours to get hooked up to a
dialysis machine at a hospital nearby. This machine helps to remove harmful wastes, toxins, excess
salt, and water from their body because unfortunately their body cannot do so for them. These
people wait on a list until they can one day receive a kidney transplant because kidney failure has
resulted in their body not being able to clean their blood properly. More than 300,000 Americans
have kidney failure and use dialysis daily and the statistics are only continuing to grow. I am going
to argue that the best to solve this problem is to legalize the regulated sale of organs to better
society as a...show more content...
In this scenario, the good of saving lives out–weighs the bad of the selling of organs. Another
utilitarian argument is that donating and selling the argument is essentially the same thing
however the donor receives a greater good and happiness in one situation than in the other. If the
donor donates his or her organ without receiving any sort of compensation they leave only with
the idea that they have helped someone and saved their life. However, in the other situation
where the donor receives a compensation for donating their organ, the donor then leaves
knowing not only that they helped someone, but they also receive a compensation to make them
happy but to also encourage others to donate their organs as well. Therefore, the idea of having a
waiting list will slowly diminish. The only way to better the economy as a whole would also be
supported by the rich who would be spending money to receive an organ. Exploitation is an
influential or manipulative act cause by to superior knowledge or power. It normally occurs
when a profit is involved and the profit is the incentive. Exploitation of the poor for organ sales
could occur because the poor would be selling their organs at a lower price below market value be.
The rich are able to use the poor's lack of knowledge and need for money to their advantage.
However, if organ

Career Research Essay
"I feel sorry for the person who can't get genuinely excited about his work. Not only will he never
be satisfied, but he will never achieve anything worthwhile" (Walter Chrysler). Deciding on what
one wants to be in life can prove to be a demanding task. There are so many, yet limited, different
opportunities in the world to have an excellent career and make a decent living while doing
something one loves. It is limited because there are only a few specific career paths that someone
could take to make good money. It is very difficult to make a fulfilling living being a garbage man.

overwhelming amount of information on every little detail of these jobs. Psychology "Few
fields of study offer more career opportunities than does psychology" (Sternburg 3). There are a
wide selection of specialties a person could go into with a bachelor's degree in psychology. In
graduate school, which is a must to attend, there is the option to explore the different specialities
or to go into the desired specialty without any research of the others. There are also many options
within a specific specialty. There is the option to be a teacher, to work for various organizations,
be a speaker, to have your own practice, and many others. In the psychology field these options
can all be combined. In fact it is expected of psychologists to do more activities involving their
specialty than solely sit in an office and listen to patients. There are two specialities that I am
interested in however, over the years, these specialties have become very similar. Clinical and
counseling psychology have evolved to become one in the same. Someone who specializes in
clinical psychology are more

Informative Speech Importance of Art Essay
Informative Speech Outline General Purpose: To inform the audience about the importance of art
Specific Purpose: To inform the audience about the importance of art in the society by stating the
impact of art on the society through history, in a cultural point of view, and as a way to convey a

is something created by humans to affect feelings, emotions, and intellects. According to Aristotle:

Essay Growing Up
When I Grow Up..
"Being 'grown up' isn't as fun as the idea of growing up."
–AmberGrace Seguin
Remember when we were young and all we could think of was growing up and getting to do
'grownup' things? We spent our whole childhood thinking of what we would do when we finally
'grew up', and here we are, almost completely grown up and we still haven't made up our mind of
what it is we will do when we grow up. We've painted this pretty little picture in our head of what
it'll be like when we eventually do grow up, and when it finally comes for the picture to be taken off
the wall and put into action, it's not nearly as fun as creating the painting.

"The day the child realizes that all adults are imperfect, he becomes an adolescent; the day he
forgives them, he becomes an adult; the day he forgives himself, he becomes wise." –Alden Nowlan
As we continue to grow up, we learn that being grown up is not as we imagined it. We once
convinced ourselves that growing up was the goal to achieve, and life would be much better once
we were in fact grown up. When we in fact do grow up, we think back at our youth and laugh
because we thought growing up was the most wondrous thing to accomplish, but now, more than
ever, we crave for our youth; for the days we would sit in the grass and daydream of what we are to
become when we grow up; and finally for the days when life was simple and we could imagine it
any which way we wanted it and no one could do a thing about it.

Essay On Gas Prices
Same Company, Same Item, Different Price
In today's society, everyone seems to be in a rush. Convenience trumps nearly anything and
everything. The closest and the promptest option is the one we often lean toward, regardless of the
consequence or cost. One of the biggest convenience items within the 21st Century is gasoline.
Regardless of the price, we often purchase this item at the most suitable site and time, especially
when we are in desperate need of the item. Gasoline companies are alert that convenience is ideal;
therefore, they alter gas prices to obtain the greatest amount of business. Within the past couple of
weeks, numerous natural disasters have occurred throughout the United States. When natural

The chart above shows a graphic comparison regarding the different gas prices at the two different
Marathon locations. This graph shows a visual trend of each of the various gasoline prices.
According to the data recorded, the gasoline prices at the Angola Marathon throughout the week
were, on average, about fourteen cents more per gallon than at the Muncie Marathon. The prices
of gasoline at the Muncie Marathon declined, on average, about four cents per gallon per day
throughout the week. While the gas prices at the Muncie Marathon continuously decreased each
day, the gas prices at the Angola Marathon varied each day. Within the first three days, the gas
prices at the Angola Marathon decreased about two and a half cents each day, on average. On the
last day data was recorded, the trend at the Angola Marathon was reversed, and the price of gas
increased by one cent. While the gas prices at the two different locations slightly wavered
throughout the week, they did not change as much as expected. Considering all of the natural
disasters occurring throughout the United States, I projected much different results. Even though the
prices did not change significantly, the data recorded was from the same gas station. We often
compare prices of the same item between various companies, but we do not often ponder about
comparing prices of the same item from the same company. From the data recorded, we can see that
the same item from the same company also varies in price.

An Introduction to Globalization Essay
Globalization is a historical phenomenon that has been happening for decades now, and whether it
generates growth or not is a matter of whose point of view it is. The western countries, especially
America and some European nations, are the ones taking full advantage of the benefits of
globalization. On the other hand, some experts say that globalization is not doing much for the
developing countries, or that it may be even worsening their scenarios of poverty and social
inequality. But, I will get back to that later . The point is that globalization, while it was primarily
triggered by the emergence of a global market and facilitated by the democratization of
communication technologies, also caused cultural, social and even political...show more content...
We are in the era of free information flow and democratization of communication tools. Through the
Internet, people are able to produce content and distribute it in many different ways to infinite
different people. What is really amazing is that the idea of distance lost its significance. Now, you
are able to communicate from your house in the south of Brazil with friends who live in India,
America or any other place in the world. Messages are overcoming huge distances because of
technological improvements and the implementation of global networks. The third movement is
political. Basically, it means that since globalization implies a compression of national boundaries,
which were brought about by the increase of trade at the global level, the importance of both the
activity of international legal institutions and treats, like the World Trade Organization, and the
dialogue between political leaders of different nations has risen significantly. Also, in the globalized
world we see a quite interesting phenomenon: the importance given by nations' leaders to their
self–image in the international political scene. Think this way: when countries were not dependent
on the businesses they had with other countries why would presidents bother to be admired by other
national leaders? What we see now is a scenario where nations' leaders struggle for status among the
international political elite. The last set

The Importance of Homework Essay
Students spend hours doing it, teachers spend hours checking it. Homework is sometimes a burden
to teachers and students but still it is necessary. Some people doubt homework's effectiveness, but
teachers and researchers agree homework is essential. Homework helps students get better grades in
school.
Some people don't know exactly what homework is. Homework is defined as an out of class
activity assigned to students as an extension or elaboration of classroom work(KidSource). There
are three types of homework teachers generally give out. The first is Practice assignments, they are
assignments that reinforce newly acquired skills or knowledge(KidSource). An example of these

Parents, students, and teachers all sometimes wonder how useful is homework? Though studies
examining the relationship between homework and school achievement have been inclusive(ERIC).
Still many teachers and researchers still agree that homework helps students achieve higher grades in
school. Schools that assigned homework frequently showed higher student achievement than schools
that assigned little homework(ERIC). This means that homework is working. Studies have generally
found that if teachers carefully plan homework, homework can be quite helpful(KidSource).
Homework has proven its effectiveness and is a very powerful factor in student performance.
Students should only spend enough time on homework so that the subject is reinforced and not just
a waste of time. The national PTA suggest that from K–3 grades there should be no more than 20
minutes a day, for 4–6 grades there should be 20–40 minutes of homework, and from 7–12 grades
time varies do to types of subjects and number of subjects taken(KidSource). Anymore than these
recommended amount of times is seen excessive by the national PTA. Surprisingly U.S. students
are working as hard as Asians: 24% of eighth graders do more then two hour of homework
compared to Japans 28% and Germanys 17%(Brimelow108). Are we working to hard, researchers
don't think so, U.S. student grades are improving. As of 1996 one in every sixth grader does more

Essay about Higher Education
Higher education is optional, but to enter a respectable career, one must continue their education in
order to achieve his financial and/or personal goals. Teenagers who attend college use their extended
schooling to further obtain knowledge. The primary objective of higher education is to enhance
one's abilities for his future. A student can learn from school in numerous ways, but liberal education
is not a way to attract students into further and higher education. However, students can learn a lot
more through experiences that have affected their personal lives. I agree with author Mike Rose's

However, he has not thought about the students who want to attend college and quickly earn their
degree so they can start their careers.
I disagree with Bloom because he encourages the idea of taking extra irrelevant classes to achieve
the experience of education. It usually takes about four years to earn a bachelors degree. There are
many courses such as English, math, history, art, etc. that a student must go through before they get
to start on the classes that concentrate on their intended major. These basic courses are part of a
program called general education. After completing general education (which usually takes about
two years), the students can then begin to study for their degree. Colleges should abandon the law
of students having to take general education courses because the courses are irrelevant to their field
of study, unnecessary and a waste of time. Instead of taking the extra courses, students can simply
meet their needs of a degree in a shorter period of time. Also, Bloom not only that wants students to
take general education courses, he wants them to further their education by taking advanced
irrelevant courses. Therefore, in their future, they would have numerous opportunities for a better
career. Because if a job is not right for the student, he would have other choices to obtain a new job.
Rose feels students should not learn from the canon books style. Students have an easier time
learning when they relate to the

Persuasive Essay On Charter Schools
Open to all children, free of tuition, and does not have special entrance requirements, charter schools
believe that children should have the opportunity to achieve at a high level. When creating charter
schools, they focused on a desire to create greater flexibility for innovation within public education.
It was hoped that successful innovations could be adapted to benefit public education more broadly.
(NEA, 2017). Charter schools also, foster partnership between parents, teachers, and students in
hopes of creating an environment in which parents can be more involved, teachers are allowed to
innovate, and students are provided with structure they need to learn.
Unlike public schools, charter schools believe that smaller class sizes are important to student
learning. According to Homeschooling "Pros and Cons of Charter Schools" article, "Rather than
having a student attend a public school where students will be one among thirty to thirty–five other
pupils, charter school students will be one of twelve, sometimes fifteen other students" (2017). In a
classroom with many students, a teacher may not have the ability to spend sufficient quality time
one–on–one with every student . This may result in teachers having more of a challenge in
motivating each student and encouraging students individually. The teacher may not have the time
to recognize each student's particular challenges, passions, and talents (Homeschooling, 2017 ). In
addition, according to EF Academy's "10

Friendship Essay: What Makes A Good Friend?
A friend is someone difficult to find. A friend is someone you can always count on when times

when a boy breaks your heart a good friend walks you through it and offers a shoulder to cry on.
According to Bree Neff, a good friend is someone who is trustworthy, doesn't talk behind your

When a person uses another to gain money, power or goods, it is self–centered. These television

the fact that one of the two individuals have money. Choosing to be in a relationship on the basis
that the later has money will lead to unhappiness. With no love and only money keeping the two

Often times it can be difficult if not impossible to make what you think at that moment will be the

are not completely clear on what type of result or outcome we want from a situation. Think about
it, if you don't really know what kind of result you want it is going to be pretty hard to know what
choice is going to be the right one. So what do you do? You get a clear understanding, before you
make any choice. Think about its effects in the long term, and short term. Knowing exactly what
you want is very powerful. We have all heard the golden rule; do onto others as you would have
them do onto you. This is probably one of the most important ideas to keep in mind when making
good choices. When we are young a lot of us develop this me, me, me, attitude. We want all the
toys, and we don't want to share. Now this mentality may get us a lot of toys, but it defiantly
doesn't help you make friends. In this day and age a large part of personal success is based on
working with others to achieve our goals. If we can help others get what they want, it will be
much easier and they will be much more willing to help us get what we want. So when making any
choice it is always ideal to think about how can I

Business plays a major role within our society. It is a creative and competitive activity that
continuously contributes to the shaping of our society. By satisfying the needs and wants people

standard of living.
It is a way for individuals to provide goods and services to consumers, and at the same time, produce

for consumers, but they also improve the economy and increase jobs for people within society
which is an additional fact producing a higher standard of living. To measure our societies standard of

A businesses environment creates many opportunities as well as problems for prospering businesses.
The environment determines what a business can do by shaping and channeling its development.
Businesses function within an environment by allowing entrepreneurs to raise capital and create

illness that involves the body, mood and thoughts. Depression affects the way a person eats and
sleeps, feels about themselves, and the way they think of the things around them. It comes as no
surprise to discover that adolescent depression is strongly linked to teen suicide. Adolescent suicide
is now responsible for more deaths...show more content...
Adolescence is a stressful experience for all teens. It is a time of physical and social changes
producing rapid mood swings from sadness to elation. Even an emotionally healthy teenager may
have the constant fear of not being good enough, not making the varsity team, or getting good
grades. Special situations such as a parents divorce can trigger intense sadness and feelings of
wanting to die.
People who usually experience depression, can seem fine. But there are many key signs to show that
they are depressed. Such as, change in school performance, eating habits change, constant
unhappiness, low self esteem, guilt, social isolation, inability to concentrate, irritable or angered
easily, or has a severe lost of energy.
For a teen suffering from severe depression, has feelings of worthlessness that dominates their day.
Despair is ever present and emotional pain feels like it will never end. Any situation of anger or
disappointment may cause the teen to cross the line from wanting to die, to actually trying to kill
themselves.
Many of them feel pains inside of them, that they can't describe when someone asks them how they
feel. They just know that they are sad, or angry, or upset. Many teenagers will try to communicate
their pains through

The Boston Marathon Bombing Essay
The Boston Marathon is an annual marathon hosted by several cities in Greater Boston in eastern
Massachusetts. It is always held on Patriot's Day, the third Monday in April. Begun in 1897, the
Boston Marathon is the world's oldest annual marathons and ranks as the world's best–known
road–racing events ("Boston Bombing," n.d.). But on April 15, 2013, the marathon made history for
something else. At approximately 2:49 EST, two pressure cooker bombs struck near the finish line
of the marathon, leaving three dead and one hundred and forty one injured. Among the injured,
twelve were reported in critical condition. The victims, who were treated in eight different hospitals,
were as young as two (Lev, 2013).
The suspects, brothers Dzhokhar and...show more content...
(2013) To analyze this event, I chose Travis Hirschi's social bond theory. I choose this one because
the theory begins with the proposition that delinquent acts result when an individual's bond to
society is weak or broken. The bond is comprised of four elements, which are attachment,
committed, involvement, and belief (Akers and Sellers, 2013 p. 117). As the information continues
to unfold regarding the past of the two suspects in this particular case, it is clear that attachment,
which is the extent to which we identify with others and care about their expectations, and belief,
which refers to the belief that laws and society's rules in general are morally correct and should be
obeyed, (Akers and Sellers, 2013 p. 117) constituted as the weakened elements for the two bomb
suspects.
Context
Statistically, on average, there have been eleven thousand, seven hundred and ninety–seven acts of
terrorism, the category which the Boston Marathon

  • 1. Stranger Things Analysis Aaron Bady's review of the hit show Stranger Things defends the show and its use of "play". Stranger Things quite remarkably manages to encapture elements of the sci–fi, fantasy, romance, and horror genres, making it a universally liked show. However, some critics have disagreed. First, Bady restates the circulating conversations about the show. These particular conversations state that the show is not original. Bady addresses that these findings are indeed correct but "do not matter." Then, he discusses why it "does not matter" and why there ought to be some other standard than originality when critiquing artwork. More broadly, Bady appeals to the television community as a whole and he suggests that its extreme concern with source...show more content... Stranger Things––while it might seem so with its corrupt government plot and female hero––isn't trying to make a political statement, or for that matter, any statement. The moment of this article is particularly important to note for its extremely heavy influence on TV and entertainment as a whole. The most apparent binary Bady mentions in his article is the contrast between viewers who are aware of the source material of Stranger Things and those who are not. Take the monster, for instance. Bady says, "there is also another derivation of the creature, one that describes the creature's career as a Dungeons and Dragons monster, and which is animated by the necessary ignorance of all of those previous origins, which reduces it to a name and a general feeling. The two are separated by a vast aesthetic chasm; the first requires you to know, the second not to know." Bady says the monster in Stranger Things "belongs to the second category, because it bears no necessary relationship to any of the other Demogorgons; it just is whatever it is." Put simply, Stranger Things only copied the 80s vibe and Dungeons and Dragons for the sake of asthestic, to look cool. Quite frankly, it wasn't counting on its audience to be familiar with the demogorgon's roots nor does the audience need to know in order to appreciate the show and the show's message. Bady used this example of the demogorgon and the binary of knowing the origins––or not Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Minecraft Essay Minecraft is a game where the player uses their imagination to shape the world around them using the resources they find. In the world everything is shaped like a block or a cube, this includes the trees, the dirt, the water, the clouds, even the sun, everything. This simple game hasn't even been released yet but has already sold over one million copies. Minecraft was created by one man, Markus "Notch" Persson, and this is his story. What makes the story of Minecraft so unique is that it was created by Notch and only Notch. Notch had a job before Minecraft, working on games for a company. He started to work on Minecraft in his free time but after a giant popularity spike he realized that it could be a hit, so he quit his job and began...show more content... The game sells around 10,000 copies per day. It has become a cultural phenomenon and on January 12, 2011 sales passed the one million mark, but they continued to rise. With popularity increasing, big name comics like "Penny Arcade" and "Hejibits" discovered the game too and published comic strips about minecraft, leading to even further sales. Minecraft makes $250,000 a day and continues to do so. On June 13, 2011, Minecraft passed 2.5 million sales. Today Mojang has 10 employees. Markus Persson, Jens Bergensten, Daniel Kaplan, Junkboy, Jakob Porser, Carl Manneh, Tobias Mollstam, Aron Neiminen, Daniel Frisk, and Daniel Rosenfeld. These few people make up the team that continues to work towards Minecraft's future. But with so few employees things take time. Even though the game has not been officially released, people who buy the game get a copy of what it is right now as the updates are being pushed out. With such success Mojang is the target of some heavy criticism from blogs, critics, and even their own fans. One speculation from fans is that Minecraft will be the company's 1 hit wonder. What happens if it truly is a one hit wonder? Will the company go down under? Will it be the end of Mojang? Will they join a publisher in order to stay afloat and lose their title of "indie?" Another speculation concerns Mojang's next game that has absolutely nothing to do with Minecraft, not even in the same genre. What if nobody likes the game? What Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Essay The Dangers of Technology The Dangers of Technology Within the past two years computers have become a new way of doing business, enjoying various forms of entertainment, and interacting with others for the majority of our nation. Almost every aspect of technical work in industry today involves the computer in some way. It is hard to find something in the world at this present time that wasn't either made by a computer program, or houses a computer of its own. Keeping this in mind while reading Ray Kurzweil's article "The Virtual Thomas Edison" makes one realize just how much humans depend on computers, and Kurzweil's hypothesizes that "Within three decades machines will be as intelligent as human beings"(Kurzweil, pars 16). Kurweil continues, by stating,...show more content... If this prediction in fact does manifest itself it could mean an expansion of human brainpower and dramatic decrease in disease among the population. There even exists the possibility that these medical robots could eliminate the need for most modern day medicines. The entire idea of using computerized implants was initially based upon current research and therapy being done using cochlear implants for the deaf and neural implants, which are used to help treat Parkinson's patients. Despite some of his positive statements about nanobots, Kurzweil does not end his discussion on the topic with such optimism. He delves in the potential evils that may arise with the use of nanobots. He believes that nanobots could also be used against people without anyone knowing because of their germ–like size. "New concerns will include such questions as 'Who is controlling the nanobots?' and 'Whom are the nanobots talking to?' For example, organizations (e.g., governments, extremist groups) could distribute trillions of undetectable nanobots that could then monitor, influence, or even control our thoughts and actions"(Kurzweil, pars 10). He also states that the nanobots could be used to create diseases that only the computers have a cure for. The nanobots could use their extensive knowledge of the human anatomy to create virulent diseases far worse than nature could ever concoct. Computer technology has Get more content on HelpWriting.net

This machine helps to remove harmful wastes, toxins, excess salt, and water from their body because unfortunately their body cannot do so for them. These people wait on a list until they can one day receive a kidney transplant because kidney failure has resulted in their body not being able to clean their blood properly. In this scenario, the good of saving lives out–weighs the bad of the selling of organs. Another utilitarian argument is that donating and selling the argument is essentially the same thing however the donor receives a greater good and happiness in one situation than in the other. If the donor donates his or her organ without receiving any sort of compensation they leave only with the idea that they have helped someone and saved their life. However, in the other situation where the donor receives a compensation for donating their organ, the donor then leaves knowing not only that they helped someone, but they also receive a compensation to make them happy but to also encourage others to donate their organs as well. Therefore, the idea of having a waiting list will slowly diminish. The only way to better the economy as a whole would also be supported by the rich who would be spending money to receive an organ. Exploitation is an influential or manipulative act cause by to superior knowledge or power. It normally occurs when a profit is involved and the profit is the incentive. Exploitation of the poor for organ sales could occur because the poor would be selling their organs at a lower price below market value be. There are so many, yet limited, different opportunities in the world to have an excellent career and make a decent living while doing something one loves. It is limited because there are only a few specific career paths that someone could take to make good money. It is very difficult to make a fulfilling living being a garbage man. Psychology "Few fields of study offer more career opportunities than does psychology" (Sternburg 3). There are a wide selection of specialties a person could go into with a bachelor's degree in psychology. In graduate school, which is a must to attend, there is the option to explore the different specialities or to go into the desired specialty without any research of the others. There are also many options within a specific specialty. There is the option to be a teacher, to work for various organizations, be a speaker, to have your own practice, and many others. In the psychology field these options can all be combined. In fact it is expected of psychologists to do more activities involving their specialty than solely sit in an office and listen to patients. There are two specialities that I am interested in however, over the years, these specialties have become very similar. Clinical and counseling psychology have evolved to become one in the same. "Being 'grown up' isn't as fun as the idea of growing up." –AmberGrace Seguin Remember when we were young and all we could think of was growing up and getting to do 'grownup' things? We spent our whole childhood thinking of what we would do when we finally 'grew up', and here we are, almost completely grown up and we still haven't made up our mind of what it is we will do when we grow up. We've painted this pretty little picture in our head of what it'll be like when we eventually do grow up, and when it finally comes for the picture to be taken off the wall and put into action, it's not nearly as fun as creating the painting. We once convinced ourselves that growing up was the goal to achieve, and life would be much better once we were in fact grown up. When we in fact do grow up, we think back at our youth and laugh because we thought growing up was the most wondrous thing to accomplish, but now, more than ever, we crave for our youth; for the days we would sit in the grass and daydream of what we are to become when we grow up; and finally for the days when life was simple and we could imagine it any which way we wanted it and no one could do a thing about it. The closest and the promptest option is the one we often lean toward, regardless of the consequence or cost. One of the biggest convenience items within the 21st Century is gasoline. Regardless of the price, we often purchase this item at the most suitable site and time, especially when we are in desperate need of the item. Gasoline companies are alert that convenience is ideal; therefore, they alter gas prices to obtain the greatest amount of business. The chart above shows a graphic comparison regarding the different gas prices at the two different Marathon locations. This graph shows a visual trend of each of the various gasoline prices. According to the data recorded, the gasoline prices at the Angola Marathon throughout the week were, on average, about fourteen cents more per gallon than at the Muncie Marathon. The prices of gasoline at the Muncie Marathon declined, on average, about four cents per gallon per day throughout the week. While the gas prices at the Muncie Marathon continuously decreased each day, the gas prices at the Angola Marathon varied each day. Within the first three days, the gas prices at the Angola Marathon decreased about two and a half cents each day, on average. On the last day data was recorded, the trend at the Angola Marathon was reversed, and the price of gas increased by one cent. While the gas prices at the two different locations slightly wavered throughout the week, they did not change as much as expected. Considering all of the natural disasters occurring throughout the United States, I projected much different results. Even though the prices did not change significantly, the data recorded was from the same gas station. We often compare prices of the same item between various companies, but we do not often ponder about comparing prices of the same item from the same company. From the data recorded, we can see that the same item from the same company also varies in price. Get more content on HelpWriting.net

An Introduction to Globalization Essay Globalization is a historical phenomenon that has been happening for decades now, and whether it generates growth or not is a matter of whose point of view it is. The western countries, especially America and some European nations, are the ones taking full advantage of the benefits of globalization. On the other hand, some experts say that globalization is not doing much for the developing countries, or that it may be even worsening their scenarios of poverty and social inequality. But, I will get back to that later . The point is that globalization, while it was primarily triggered by the emergence of a global market and facilitated by the democratization of communication technologies, also caused cultural, social and even political...show more content... What is really amazing is that the idea of distance lost its significance. Now, you are able to communicate from your house in the south of Brazil with friends who live in India, America or any other place in the world. Messages are overcoming huge distances because of technological improvements and the implementation of global networks. The third movement is political. Basically, it means that since globalization implies a compression of national boundaries, which were brought about by the increase of trade at the global level, the importance of both the activity of international legal institutions and treats, like the World Trade Organization, and the dialogue between political leaders of different nations has risen significantly. Also, in the globalized world we see a quite interesting phenomenon: the importance given by nations' leaders to their self–image in the international political scene. Think this way: when countries were not dependent on the businesses they had with other countries why would presidents bother to be admired by other national leaders? What we see now is a scenario where nations' leaders struggle for status among the international political elite. The last set Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Still many teachers and researchers still agree that homework helps students achieve higher grades in school. Schools that assigned homework frequently showed higher student achievement than schools that assigned little homework(ERIC). This means that homework is working. Studies have generally found that if teachers carefully plan homework, homework can be quite helpful(KidSource). Homework has proven its effectiveness and is a very powerful factor in student performance. Students should only spend enough time on homework so that the subject is reinforced and not just a waste of time. The national PTA suggest that from K–3 grades there should be no more than 20 minutes a day, for 4–6 grades there should be 20–40 minutes of homework, and from 7–12 grades time varies do to types of subjects and number of subjects taken(KidSource). Anymore than these recommended amount of times is seen excessive by the national PTA. Surprisingly U.S. students are working as hard as Asians: 24% of eighth graders do more then two hour of homework compared to Japans 28% and Germanys 17%(Brimelow108). Are we working to hard, researchers don't think so, U.S. student grades are improving. As of 1996 one in every sixth grader does more than an hour of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Essay about Higher Education Higher education is optional, but to enter a respectable career, one must continue their education in order to achieve his financial and/or personal goals. Teenagers who attend college use their extended schooling to further obtain knowledge. The primary objective of higher education is to enhance one's abilities for his future. A student can learn from school in numerous ways, but liberal education is not a way to attract students into further and higher education. However, students can learn a lot more through experiences that have affected their personal lives. However, he has not thought about the students who want to attend college and quickly earn their degree so they can start their careers. I disagree with Bloom because he encourages the idea of taking extra irrelevant classes to achieve the experience of education. It usually takes about four years to earn a bachelors degree. There are many courses such as English, math, history, art, etc. that a student must go through before they get to start on the classes that concentrate on their intended major. These basic courses are part of a program called general education. After completing general education (which usually takes about two years), the students can then begin to study for their degree. Colleges should abandon the law of students having to take general education courses because the courses are irrelevant to their field of study, unnecessary and a waste of time. Instead of taking the extra courses, students can simply meet their needs of a degree in a shorter period of time. Also, Bloom not only that wants students to take general education courses, he wants them to further their education by taking advanced irrelevant courses. Therefore, in their future, they would have numerous opportunities for a better career. Because if a job is not right for the student, he would have other choices to obtain a new job. Rose feels students should not learn from the canon books style. Students have an easier time learning when they relate to the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Persuasive Essay On Charter Schools Open to all children, free of tuition, and does not have special entrance requirements, charter schools believe that children should have the opportunity to achieve at a high level. When creating charter schools, they focused on a desire to create greater flexibility for innovation within public education. It was hoped that successful innovations could be adapted to benefit public education more broadly. (NEA, 2017). Charter schools also, foster partnership between parents, teachers, and students in hopes of creating an environment in which parents can be more involved, teachers are allowed to innovate, and students are provided with structure they need to learn. Unlike public schools, charter schools believe that smaller class sizes are important to student learning. According to Homeschooling "Pros and Cons of Charter Schools" article, "Rather than having a student attend a public school where students will be one among thirty to thirty–five other pupils, charter school students will be one of twelve, sometimes fifteen other students" (2017). In a classroom with many students, a teacher may not have the ability to spend sufficient quality time one–on–one with every student . This may result in teachers having more of a challenge in motivating each student and encouraging students individually. The teacher may not have the time to recognize each student's particular challenges, passions, and talents (Homeschooling, 2017 ). If you have something you feel like you can't tell anyone about, they are the friends you can tell. A good friend is someone who when you tell them personal stuff you don't have to worry, you know your secret is safe. When a person uses another to gain money, power or goods, it is self–centered. These television shows are based around bringing together two people who have never met in the past, based on the fact that one of the two individuals have money. (Poniewozik) Countless couples who participate in these television shows do not last more then a year before realizing that the money is not worth being with somebody you do not love or get along with. While individual people who are taken over with greed usually affect smaller portions of the population, the more power a greedy person has, the more people are affected. This idea is shown with the Nike Corporation. Time and time again, there are stories of dishonest companies who take advantage of the fact that they have money, try to create more wealth and subsequently forget their workers well being. Although they have more then enough money, greed takes over and good morals are overlooked. Nike, a popular sports brand, makes billions of dollars a year selling various products. To manufacture them, Nike has created many sweatshops throughout the world. But does that always happen? Nine times out of ten know. Recently, I made a bad choice that affected my life in numerous ways for instance when I got caught shoplifting my parents looked down on me as if I was this thief. Often times it can be difficult if not impossible to make what you think at that moment will be the right choice. One of the biggest factors that will hold people back is that to too often than not we are not completely clear on what type of result or outcome we want from a situation. Think about it, if you don't really know what kind of result you want it is going to be pretty hard to know what choice is going to be the right one. So what do you do? You get a clear understanding, before you make any choice. Think about its effects in the long term, and short term. Knowing exactly what you want is very powerful. We have all heard the golden rule; do onto others as you would have them do onto you. This is probably one of the most important ideas to keep in mind when making good choices. When we are young a lot of us develop this me, me, me, attitude. We want all the toys, and we don't want to share. Now this mentality may get us a lot of toys, but it defiantly doesn't help you make friends. In this day and age a large part of personal success is based on working with others to achieve our goals. If we can help others get what they want, it will be much easier and they will be much more willing to help us get what we want. So when making any choice it is always ideal to think about how can I Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Begun in 1897, the Boston Marathon is the world's oldest annual marathons and ranks as the world's best–known road–racing events ("Boston Bombing," n.d.). As the information continues to unfold regarding the past of the two suspects in this particular case, it is clear that attachment, which is the extent to which we identify with others and care about their expectations, and belief, which refers to the belief that laws and society's rules in general are morally correct and should be obeyed, (Akers and Sellers, 2013 p. 117) constituted as the weakened elements for the two bomb suspects.
