Reflective Essay on Writing Skills
I always thought that my writing skills were pretty good until I started this class. It has been
thirteen years since I graduated high school and I quickly realized that I had a lot of "refreshing"
to do as far as writing papers. I actually felt very discouraged when I took the grammar test and did
not score very well. I knew that I had to dedicate myself and put a lot of effort into this class to
really improve. The practice quizzes were a major help to refresh on everything I must have
forgotten since high school. Being able to write a quality paper is a skill that everyone should
master. Writing is such a major part of communication in this day and age so being able to write
an intelligent paper will benefit you not just through school but also through life. Writing skills
are a reflection of intelligence and I want to perfect my writing the best that I can. Being able to

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Academic Writing
Writing is a very helpful skill for most of the people who want to achieve success in their life.
Improving your writing skills is very helpful before entering the university. Students are facing a
lot of issues in their university because they are being asked to write academic essays, or scientific
papers, and they did not have the expected skills to write what is being asked from them. On the
other hand, those who have studied APA, and MLA in their high school, or by self
–learning, are more
likely to get high scores in their universities academic essays than those who did not. Those who
have studied academic writing are having a big chance to achieve their goals in their university life
because most of the courses in the university requires...show more content...
My point of weakness is that I always go off topic, and I think most of the students do that in the
beginning of their academic papers practices. It is not easy to stay on topic. However, I have learned
some techniques that made me able to stay on topic, and I would like to mention them to students to
avoid making my mistakes. First, students could make an outline before writing their final draft, and
submit it. This has helped me so much in organizing my paper, and making it easy for me follow up
with the points that I want to talk about without going off topic. Second, students should have a
strong thesis statement, and restating it in each paragraph. By restating your thesis statement, you
are not only making the reader following up with your points, but you are also making your thesis
statement stronger because it has been mentioned in many paragraphs with different examples.
Lastly, students should use transition words in their essay. Transition words helps the reader to
progress from one idea to the next. Therefore, students should learn how to write academic essays,
and take it more seriously because it could improve their

Grit Essay Examples
Grit is a predictor of academic, professional, and personal success. Grit can be defined as strength
of character or the ability to overcome failure and continue to work toward success. People with
grit are not always the people with the most natural ability, but their work ethic and ability to
overcome obstacles allows them to achieve success. Grit is a very valuable characteristic in almost
any venture, as it gives someone an advantage in overcoming the inevitable obstacles they will face.
However, grit is much easier adopted when an individual has a growth mindset. The first step to
obtaining grit is to correlate both self–control and self–confidence when trying to reach an objective.
By doing this, one can focus on the task at hand...show more content...
I had no experience as a runner nor did I have the form. This did not phase me however. That year
I promised myself to push through all the six mile runs, sore legs, gnarly blisters, and at times,
lack of oxygen. At every meet and speed workout practice I pushed myself further and further. I
set a goal every time I kicked off from the starting line and never let myself get discouraged when
I failed. By my senior year, I was the fourth fastest runner on varsity. That year our varsity team
won the district meet, which qualified us to run in the 2016 state meet in Oregon. The
transformation over the years were evident. My determination to accomplish my goal of
becoming a faster runner was complete. If I had simply just given up that first day of practice, I
wouldn't have ran along side of the fastest runners in Oregon or have met the multitude of people
that are now my closest friends. Having a goal sets one up for a challenge, whether it being
physically or mentally, goals keep us active and thinking in more ways than one. Still, if someone
has self–control, confidence, and a goal, they are still not complete. Growth mindset is the cone to
an ice cream. It is the foundation of what I think a successful person is. Without it one couldn't use
the characteristics mentioned above in more ways than one. Someone with a growth mindset believe
that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work, brains and talent
are just the starting point.

Writting In Cursive
I agree that the United Sate should should have cursive writting as an extra curriculum. First, it
provide better understanding of the material being teach, it can also help the student to develop and
stimulate a better moto–skill. Also it helps students with medical conditions to have another acces to
writting. Finally, we are still bringing a cultural tradition learn from centuries. Writting in cursive is
an open door for students to analyze what is being teach. By witting in cursive it teaches the brain to

Why I Am A Bad Writer
From the time I was in about fourth or fifth grade I began to dislike certain subjects in school. I
loathed everything about writing assignments. I didn't write at home before that the thought of
writing for myself never really occurred to me. I hated the deadlines the length requirements and I
just tried to get them done and had no intention of writing well because I told myself I was a bad
writer. I have never really known whether or not I truly am a bad writer. I continued these habits of
just writing something down to get a decent grade all throughout school. I usually got an okay
grade because I followed the prompt closely and did the minimum amount of work for the paper. I
didn't start the assignments until either the night before it was due. As I got older I would type
the paper on my phone in school that day then print it off in the library moments before class. I
continued writing in that awful ritual of complacency until the end of 11th grade. We had to
write a paper on The Great Gatsby a book that I never read. I read couple of notes on the internet and
then wrote the paper and never reread it or edited it all. I did my usual routine and followed the
prompt and turned my paper in. When I got my paper back I was shocked to find out I didn't get
even a half decent grade I was given a zero. I went to my teacher after class to speak with him about
the grade and he told me I got the grade that I deserved. He said I was lazy and never tried to truly

Experience Of Writing
Writing, it has it's good, and it's bad. Regardless of who you are however, you have had an
experience with it. College, High School, Middle School, etc. We all have written something at
some point in our lives. Personally I haven't been exposed to massive amounts of writing outside
of school although, I do enjoy writing songs. There's many different types from Novels, Poetry,
Music, all the way to texting. Most people I feel enjoy writing and as do I. I enjoy writing for a few
reasons,One. It allows me to relieve stress or anything on my mind and keep sane. I have a
journal to keep track of days for later memories and I add to it every day. I have a few experiences
worth sharing as well. One of my first experiences seriously writing is when, I was in Highschool,
and had to write a speech. I spent four days writing this speech. Although it wasn't what you would
call outstandingly fun. The speech was for my graduation on the last day of school BSEP. BSEP
was a project all seniors had to complete and pass to graduate. I have been out of school for two
years since that experience....show more content...
I began writing songs about a year ago. The drive really came out of nowhere I wasn't in a very
good place emotionally. Since I was feeling kind of down I began to write songs mostly R&B and
as well as Hip Hop. Writing these however doesn't require much punctuation. I write a lot of
songs, and I have compiled about 30 total in the past year. I get a lot of good feedback from the
people who have heard them but I am very skittish about singing in front of people. I mostly do it
for self satisfaction in my own head it helps me relax. I'm also building a skill that might one day

Reflection On My Writing Skills
Reflection
My writing skills which I have worked on over the few months I have been in English 102 have
changed quite a bit in my opinion. There are many things which I have improved upon that were
amongst my weaker writing skills when the year began. On the opposite side of that point, there are
also many things which I still need to improve upon if I want to truly elevate my writing to a level
that I will be confident in. Finally, I have gained new skills outside of writing from this class,
particularly the activities which we did in class at various points throughout the year. These things
all cumulate together to give me an appreciation of English courses which I did not previously have.
Throughout this semester there are many skills that I have noticed have improved through the
constant writing of essays for this class. The one that I find most noticeable is a habit I had long
struggled with which was essentially my tendency to be over necessarily wordy when writing my
essays. I believe that I was able to somewhat fix this subconsciously, just by knowing that I was no
longer in high school, and could no longer get by with just attempting to fill up my word count. I
also believe I have greatly improved in my topic selection. In high school I would throw caution to
the wind and just pick whatever topic came to mind just in an effort to get it done. I have been
much more calculated in college, and I believe that it has helped me write better essays. While these

Essay on Writing Experience
My Writing Experiences My experiences in writing have been minimal. I have only learned the
basics of writing, like putting together sentences, forming paragraphs with sentences, and things
like that. Since I have been taking college English, I can tell my writing has improved a lot. In the
future, I hope to be able to improve tremendously at writing essays, paragraphs, research papers,
documents, and stories so that I have very little to no errors with drafting and final products. I
predict I will be a well rounded writer when I graduate from college. Writing in the past started in
kindergarten. My teacher taught me how to write my name over and over until I could write it with
no errors. All through elementary my teachers taught me...show more content...
I need to learn to quit thinking as much on what I want to write about and how to write about a topic
and just starting jotting stuff down in outline form as it comes to mind. Run–ons and fragments I
need to be able to spot and fix right away or I really need to not have any in my papers at all. My
goals are to write papers and not have to reassure myself that maybe I need to do more research or
have more data or even have to rethink my whole topic over. I would love to have the knowledge
to be a tutor someday and teach other people how to properly write papers, paragraphs, essays,
and maybe even books. To have excellent skills in writing will definitely be a great advantage in
my nursing profession. In nursing, I will have to do lots of charting on my patients. I will have to
do health presentations on various subjects such as exercising, how our society eats, and sex
education if I want to be a course instructor. Researching information on all of those topics I will
have to make sure I do an excellent job on and collect accurate information and statistics so that I
can compare to other sources. Dictating to the doctor means that I will need to write properly so
that he understands what I am saying. Other nurses will have to be able to understand what I am
talking about by my writing skills when doing shift changes. I will have to be very precise so that
other nurses will not

Relationship with Writing. Essay
My Relationship With Writing Like most people, writing has made an impact on my life. I didn't
notice it right away, but once I did it changed my life forever. I consider myself to be a fairly
decent writer and I would say it was the only thing that kept me going. I love writing that involves
thinking and real emotion. Writing journals and letters have helped me get through a lot in my life
and that is really something I will never forget. For the most part, I like to write. I surprise myself
sometimes when I read what I have written. Essays don't seem to be that hard for me and most of
the time comes naturally to write. Ever since I was younger, reading and writing were always my

Some times it would be a free write where we could write anything on our mind. Most of the time
I just wrote on what I had done and how I was feeling that day. Other times, he would write down
a quote on the board and we would interpret what we thought it meant. This is where I realized
that writing can really have an impact on peoples lives. Things can be interpreted in so many
ways and by sharing our thoughts on the quotes, I noticed that not everyone was the same. With
my experience in a sophomore English class, this really helped me realize that this is a passion
for me. In the beginning of the year, I really dreaded it because I thought I couldn't write a full
page in 10 minutes. By the end of the year, I couldn't wait to get to English class to write down
how I was feeling or interpret a quote that was chosen. I guess you could say that my favorite type
of writing would have to be in journal format. I have enjoyed essay writing and letters just as
much though. Since the day one of my best friends left for basic training for the military, I have
written him a whole bunch of letters. I enjoyed doing this because not only was it the only way to
communicate with him, but it was somewhere I could write down my feelings. Having the
opportunity to let things off my chest by writing has probably changed my life. I don't say that
lightly because there have been instances where I felt like I was hopeless and having the chance to

My Experience In English Writing
English is a core concept in the Untied States and other countries that has allowed inviduals to
advance their knowledge. Not only does English provide an advancement in knowlege, but has
created a way for individuals to share their thoughts and feelings through writing. Which is why
English is one of the four subjects that is required to be taught in almost every school district in
America including mine. I began taking English from a young age which allowed me to take
advanced placement English IV my senior year at Tupelo High School. Advanced Placement English
IV allowed me to further my education in writing, which in return allowed me to overcome
obstacles, low points and discover strengths I never knew I had. Like any other thing in life there
are always obstacles individuals face everyday, for me in my English IV class writing was
something that was very challenging. The first challenge writing presented to me was trying to
organize all of my thoughts, so that it made sense. The first essay I ever wrote in my English class
was a journal entry about a memorable experience, so with that being said I decided I would write
about the experience I had while hunting with my Dad. The hunting experience with my dad had
many different parts, and one of my biggest challenges I had was organizing my thoughts, so that it
flowed correctly. Since I was telling a story within my journal I realized that I was jumping around
more then I should have and this became a problem. I learned

knowing that there are different perspectives on everything. Another habit I've developed is
engagement. Ever since elementary school I was taught to engage with my classmates. I shared
ideas on what I've learned by raising my hand and sharing with my peers. When others share their
ideas I build and compare on my own. Curiosity is another habit I've developed. I've naturally grown

when something is wrong are: severity, physical distance, relationship, and time exposed. Deciding
to help someone in an emergency situation is also important. At sometime everyone in life will
have to decide whether to help another person. However, the most important time to make a

The Writing Process Essay
The Writing Process
Writing a paper on the writing process is pretty hard. The writing process is different from one
person to another. You come across questions like, 'What exactly is the writing process?'; and
'Must you follow one persons writing process if yours is different?'; This is where I came across
the answer to my questions, write however you wish to write. If one person likes free write first
and another person likes to write a draft first, let them do how they please.
The writing process is something that you figure out yourself as you go through school. I personally
think that is why they make us take English for so many years. Through the years, I found that some
teachers forced you to write certain ways. I believe that...show more content...
I don't agree with him. The only way for someone to improve his or her writing is if a peer reads
over it and explains what could be done to improve it.
In The Maker's Eye: Revising Your Own Manuscript, Murray says, 'Writers must learn to be their
own worst enemy'; (Murray 87). He is trying to say that when it comes to editing, you must be able
to accept criticism from others and be suspicious of it. Just because they say that you should
rearrange that paragraph doesn't necessarily mean you have to. The way you wrote the paragraph
could be in your own voice.
Your papers should be filled with your voice. Voice is what makes your writing personal. But your
voice could be different depending on what you write about. I would put a lot more of my feelings
in a paper about food, than a paper about how the polar ice caps are melting.
Revising and rewriting a paper is a common step in the writing process. Personally, I think your
paper would be crap if you skipped these steps but I'm sure someone has done it before. Every
writer has revised and rewritten a paper. Do you think that Shakespeare wrote Romeo and Juliet in
one shot? I don't think so.
In conclusion, writing is up to the writer. If the writer decides to follow the formal writing process,
then that's their choice. Nothing should be forced when it comes to writing. Then the writer does not
put out their best work possible. Thank you for reading my

CT interpret effective leadership as affected by situational variables, including the followers, work
environment and tasks, and the external environment (Daft, 2005, p.111). CT includes Fiedler's
proposal of predominance and interaction between relationship or taskoriented leadership styles, as
well as Hersey and Blanchard's focus on the characteristics of followers as producing favorable or
unfavorable results, followed by the path–goal theory, Vroom Jago model, and
substitutes–for–leadership approaches. If the leader understands how to properly interrelate with
situational variables, the possibilities for success would be maximized. Influence Theories Leaders
are challenged to persuade followers effectively integrating power and influence. Followers should
be motivated, shaped and guided through Charismatic Leadership, "influence based...on the qualities

Essay about Rain
Stepping outside, I instantly notice the fresh, wet scent of earth. As I continue walking, I willingly
allow the sprinkling droplets to envelop my entire body. My shoes are soon soaked; with each step
I take, I feel a puddle of water move beneath my feet. The rain hurls itself violently on the dark,
slippery pavement. My hair is dripping with ice–cold raindrops which plummet to the earth with
every movement I make. The numbing effect of the icy downpour is finally setting in. Fierce
thunder clouds sneak into the murderous sky and flashing lightning strikes begin. The rain falls faster
and heavier. My feet move quickly as I run down the road. I rush into my house and proceed to stare
out the window and observe the vicious storm that is only...show more content...
As a person lets the cool rain wash over them, a feeling of renewal and cleanliness is created.
Depression rates skyrocket during the dark and dreary seasons. This condition is known as Seasonal
Affective Disorder. About 5–percent of adults in the United States live with this condition. The loss
of sunlight and increase of poor weather – snow, rain, wind– contribute to the severity of the
disorder. During the fall and winter months, it often rains. This is one contributing factor to SAD.
Although rain can be light and happy, it can also be extremely harsh. Thunderstorms are often
present during heavy rainstorms. The electric flashes of light bring about nothing but fear; the
pounding rain only intensifies the storm. It is easy to see why the mere sight of rain depresses
some people. When rain is mentioned, I think of light ecstatic sprinkling. However, because of
the different experiences each individual has, the opposite conclusion could be made. Rain drops
strongly resemble teardrops. Because of this astounding resemblance, a connection between sad
teardrops and rain is made. During a rain storm, the sky is not clear and blue; it is murky and gray.
Colors have feelings associated with them. Blue is happy and bubbly while gray is sad and dull. A
depressed person will take a quick look at the rain and jump back in their beds.

Essay My Thoughts on Writing
My Thoughts on Writing
The only thing I care about; the only thing I hope to get from this course, is some improvement in
my ability to write what I think –– explain ideas and feelings to other people. I don't give a damn
about anything else, and so far I haven't been disappointed. At the beginning of the course I was
informed that we were going to be discussing exposition, which isn't so much a kind of writing as a
purpose or attitude behind it. This purpose is to explore, unfold, or develop an idea or issue. And the
sense I've gotten from our discussion is that the attitude is one of intellectual honesty, of dedication
to learning something and reporting what's there , instead of protecting preconceived notions or
projecting agendas...show more content...
A friend of mine has already graduated from a university, and she recently went through a whole
crate of papers she wrote in the process. She told me she couldn't remember what many of them
were about; couldn't even remember writing most of them. We've talked about "themewriting"as
something written for and from a closed environment: a mini–universe apart from everyday life, with
its own abbreviated rules, in which oversimplification is acceptable. When I consider the sheer
tonnage of the stuff that's written every midquarter and finals week around here, it sure seems that
most of it is intended to, deserves to, and does head right for the wastebasket immediately when it's
of no further use in that universe: after it's recorded in the grade book. "Commitment" is a term
applied to solid exposition, and themewriting frequently lacks it.
Does anyone like to do this –– does it provide a warm, human, joyous feeling of having made
contact and saying something Important? Or do we just get comfortable doing it? Like being an
accountant: is there a real sense of joy to be found in adding up columns of figures? There may be
some people who would tell me "sure, it's fun," but I think actually they're just feeling safe in a sort
of half–sleep state which isn't exactly happy and may in fact be miserable, but at least is stable.
There may be a different kind of warmth, reserved for "a job well done," and "I might get a
promotion," and most especially: "I feel good

Reading and Writing Skills Essay
Reading and Writing Skills
I remember when I started kindergarten. It was August 27, 1990. I'm still a little angry about that
day because it was my fifth birthday and I still remember that I didn't get to wear a crown on that

because it was the first day of school. But besides that, kindergarten was a really great year. In the
mornings we'd go around the classroom to different stations and play different games, then we'd go

I also went through a phase in junior high where I bought non–fiction diaries of teenagers that
struggled through different problems. Those always kept me entertained and they were the type
of books that I could never put down. Reading was never something that I just did in school. I did
it whenever we had free time in class, after school, and at night before bed. It was always one of
my hobbies. I also found writing very interesting. I enjoyed writing papers for all of my English
classes. Every one was a little different and every year I truly believe that I became a better writer.
I learned different ways to write and I believe that I always met my teacher's expectations in my
papers. I remember in fifth grade I had to write my first autobiography. That was the only time
until now that I got to write entirely about myself. It's a project that I'll never forget. My teacher
gave us about a month to write this paper and put a book together. The book consisted of my paper
and pictures all glued to construction paper. In that autobiography I wrote about my time growing
up, my family, my friends, my hobbies, etc. My parents still have that book. It was such an
impacting project. It was really nice to reflect on my time growing up and the things I enjoyed.

My Writing Experience
Reading and writing has always created a sense of understanding for me in my art. Reading in the
literal sense is a way that we understand text or symbols in our minds which in turn create meaning.
Writing also in a literal sense is our way of communicating our knowledge and emotions to others
through symbols in text. The human experience for all people includes communication and through
reading and writing this experience is created. From the beginning of this course, my only prior
experience with reading and writing were high school level course over literature and reading. I had
an average level of rhetoric, reading, writing and language overall however, understanding the
significance of these subjects was never put forth in such a way until I took this course. I discovered
through this course that reading is a combination of not only our "visual information" but also our

My Writing Journey
Writing Journey Have you ever been given an assignment where you say to yourself, "how the
heck am I going to do this?" or maybe, "what am I supposed to write about?" Well that's exactly
how I felt, thought, and did with this writing journey. Coming up with something to say about my
writing journey has been difficult. I would be bold enough to say nearly impossible. So impossible
it's like trying to get a camel through the eye of a needle. Okay that might be an exaggeration, but it
has been difficult. The idea that I have a writing journey I understand. But thinking of an event or
something that has made my writing the way it is has been difficult. So, what I've decided to do
then is to write about my writing journey writing this paper. It all started the morning of August 22,

remember wondering how to get to the Metro Campus of Tulsa Community College or TCC for

English 0933, or better known as Writing Foundations. It was an interesting first class session with
Dr. Dewayne Dickson. At this point I don't even remember what was taught that first time. I'm sure it
was the Syllabus. But the first thing he did was have us write about our "writing journey."

The art of writing is a complex and difficult process. Proper writing requires careful planning,
revision, and proofreading. Throughout the past semester, the quality of my writing has evolved
significantly. At first, I struggled with the separation of different types of paragraphs, and I found
writing them laborious. Constant practice, however, has eliminated many of my original difficulties,
and helped to inspire confidence in my skills. As a collegiate writer, my strength lies in my clear
understanding of the fundamentals of writing, while my primary weakness is proofreading my own
work. During the transition from a high school writer to a collegiate writer, my strength at
understanding the basic principles of...show more content...
Finding an introductory paragraph that hooks the reader can be troublesome, but throughout the
course, I have spent considerable time developing that technique. The body of my arguments
each exhibit strong support for the thesis. In addition, my conclusions summarize the papers
without restating unnecessary information. Overall, my comprehension of the basic format of an
argument has proved to be a valuable asset. The weakest portion of my writing is my lack of good
proofreading. All papers require a significant amount of proofreading not only for grammatical
errors, but also for structural problems. Proofreading my own work is difficult. Many times, I
wrongly assume that the reader is able to understand my thoughts, while the various points of my
argument are actually not expressed clearly. In some instances, I fail to catch obvious errors, such
as sentence fragments or contractions, which I should be able to eliminate easily from my
writing. Proofreading my own work has consistently been the most difficult part of my writing
process, and I continue to struggle with catching all of the errors in my papers. Analyzing my
strengths and weaknesses as a writer is extremely important. Despite the fact that I understand the
structure of a good argument, I still miss obvious errors in my papers because I lack the skills
necessary to properly proofread my own work. In the future, I plan on spending a large portion of

The First And Hardest Part Of Writing An Essay
The first and hardest part of writing an essay is figuring out how to start. A professor may give a
topic to be written about, but in some cases that may not happen. The first step is to pick a topic.
The topic will serve as your thesis. You want to pick a topic that you are relatively knowledgeable
about so you are not completely in the dark. By picking a topic that you know even a little about,
will take away the anxiety of not knowing where to start or what to write about. If you chose to
challenge yourself and write a paper about something you are novice about, then you want to pick
a topic that is broad enough to find enough information about. For example, if you want to write a
paper about cars, do not make cars what your paper is about, because although it is a broad topic
it is also somewhat narrow. Try to broaden your topic buy changing it to, "how cars have changed
our lives." Changing your topic to a more argumentative thesis gives you a pinpoint area to write
about and leaves the door open to give you more to write about. The second step, and what I believe
to be the most important step is locating sources to support your thesis. A researchessay without
sources becomes an opinion essay, and that is what you as the writer want to stay away from.
Sources make your essay more creditable. If your essay is about "how technology has benefited
students and teachers in the classrooms," then you should find sources that are about how
technology is used in

The company's creams inventory remains constant because it does not follow a trend in
innovation and changes so often as the other products. The surplus in inventory is a big
disadvantage since; last year's products may not be in style this year in addition to the cost of
storage. For all these reasons their cash flow is less in comparison with previous years causing that
Luxor Cosmetics keeps increasing their bank loans, creating more debt, making it harder to pay out
as 2011. In this particular situation the company could have either decrease its budgeted sales
(productions) or increase its actual sales by improving more effective marketing strategy and
research and development of its products in the markets. This way their inventory would decrease
and their cash flow would increase. (Hopkins, 2009)
Further, through effective marketing strategy Luxor

Essay Writting

  • 1. Reflective Essay on Writing Skills I always thought that my writing skills were pretty good until I started this class. It has been thirteen years since I graduated high school and I quickly realized that I had a lot of "refreshing" to do as far as writing papers. I actually felt very discouraged when I took the grammar test and did not score very well. I knew that I had to dedicate myself and put a lot of effort into this class to really improve. The practice quizzes were a major help to refresh on everything I must have forgotten since high school. Being able to write a quality paper is a skill that everyone should master. Writing is such a major part of communication in this day and age so being able to write an intelligent paper will benefit you not just through school but also through life. Writing skills are a reflection of intelligence and I want to perfect my writing the best that I can. Being able to write a quality paper is a skill that everyone should master. Writing is such a major part of communication in this day and age so being able to write an intelligent paper will benefit you not just through school but also through life. Writing skills are a reflection of intelligence and I want to perfect my writing the best that I can. The first essay was a persuasive essay on the right for gays/lesbians to marry. • 2. Strengths And Weaknesses Of Academic Writing Writing is a very helpful skill for most of the people who want to achieve success in their life. Improving your writing skills is very helpful before entering the university. Students are facing a lot of issues in their university because they are being asked to write academic essays, or scientific papers, and they did not have the expected skills to write what is being asked from them. On the other hand, those who have studied APA, and MLA in their high school, or by self –learning, are more likely to get high scores in their universities academic essays than those who did not. Those who have studied academic writing are having a big chance to achieve their goals in their university life because most of the courses in the university requires...show more content... My point of weakness is that I always go off topic, and I think most of the students do that in the beginning of their academic papers practices. It is not easy to stay on topic. However, I have learned some techniques that made me able to stay on topic, and I would like to mention them to students to avoid making my mistakes. First, students could make an outline before writing their final draft, and submit it. This has helped me so much in organizing my paper, and making it easy for me follow up with the points that I want to talk about without going off topic. Second, students should have a strong thesis statement, and restating it in each paragraph. By restating your thesis statement, you are not only making the reader following up with your points, but you are also making your thesis statement stronger because it has been mentioned in many paragraphs with different examples. Lastly, students should use transition words in their essay. Transition words helps the reader to progress from one idea to the next. Therefore, students should learn how to write academic essays, and take it more seriously because it could improve their Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 4. Grit Essay Examples Grit is a predictor of academic, professional, and personal success. Grit can be defined as strength of character or the ability to overcome failure and continue to work toward success. People with grit are not always the people with the most natural ability, but their work ethic and ability to overcome obstacles allows them to achieve success. Grit is a very valuable characteristic in almost any venture, as it gives someone an advantage in overcoming the inevitable obstacles they will face. However, grit is much easier adopted when an individual has a growth mindset. The first step to obtaining grit is to correlate both self–control and self–confidence when trying to reach an objective. By doing this, one can focus on the task at hand...show more content... I had no experience as a runner nor did I have the form. This did not phase me however. That year I promised myself to push through all the six mile runs, sore legs, gnarly blisters, and at times, lack of oxygen. At every meet and speed workout practice I pushed myself further and further. I set a goal every time I kicked off from the starting line and never let myself get discouraged when I failed. By my senior year, I was the fourth fastest runner on varsity. That year our varsity team won the district meet, which qualified us to run in the 2016 state meet in Oregon. The transformation over the years were evident. My determination to accomplish my goal of becoming a faster runner was complete. If I had simply just given up that first day of practice, I wouldn't have ran along side of the fastest runners in Oregon or have met the multitude of people that are now my closest friends. Having a goal sets one up for a challenge, whether it being physically or mentally, goals keep us active and thinking in more ways than one. Still, if someone has self–control, confidence, and a goal, they are still not complete. Growth mindset is the cone to an ice cream. It is the foundation of what I think a successful person is. Without it one couldn't use the characteristics mentioned above in more ways than one. Someone with a growth mindset believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work, brains and talent are just the starting point. • 6. Why I Am A Bad Writer From the time I was in about fourth or fifth grade I began to dislike certain subjects in school. I loathed everything about writing assignments. I didn't write at home before that the thought of writing for myself never really occurred to me. I hated the deadlines the length requirements and I just tried to get them done and had no intention of writing well because I told myself I was a bad writer. I have never really known whether or not I truly am a bad writer. I continued these habits of just writing something down to get a decent grade all throughout school. I usually got an okay grade because I followed the prompt closely and did the minimum amount of work for the paper. I didn't start the assignments until either the night before it was due. As I got older I would type the paper on my phone in school that day then print it off in the library moments before class. I continued writing in that awful ritual of complacency until the end of 11th grade. We had to write a paper on The Great Gatsby a book that I never read. I read couple of notes on the internet and then wrote the paper and never reread it or edited it all. I did my usual routine and followed the prompt and turned my paper in. When I got my paper back I was shocked to find out I didn't get even a half decent grade I was given a zero. I went to my teacher after class to speak with him about the grade and he told me I got the grade that I deserved. He said I was lazy and never tried to truly work in Get more content on HelpWriting.net

College, High School, Middle School, etc. We all have written something at some point in our lives. Personally I haven't been exposed to massive amounts of writing outside of school although, I do enjoy writing songs. There's many different types from Novels, Poetry, Music, all the way to texting. Most people I feel enjoy writing and as do I. I enjoy writing for a few reasons,One. It allows me to relieve stress or anything on my mind and keep sane. I have a journal to keep track of days for later memories and I add to it every day. I have a few experiences worth sharing as well. One of my first experiences seriously writing is when, I was in Highschool, and had to write a speech. I spent four days writing this speech. Although it wasn't what you would call outstandingly fun. The speech was for my graduation on the last day of school BSEP. BSEP was a project all seniors had to complete and pass to graduate. • 8. Reflection On My Writing Skills Reflection My writing skills which I have worked on over the few months I have been in English 102 have changed quite a bit in my opinion. There are many things which I have improved upon that were amongst my weaker writing skills when the year began. On the opposite side of that point, there are also many things which I still need to improve upon if I want to truly elevate my writing to a level that I will be confident in. Finally, I have gained new skills outside of writing from this class, particularly the activities which we did in class at various points throughout the year. These things all cumulate together to give me an appreciation of English courses which I did not previously have. Throughout this semester there are many skills that I have noticed have improved through the constant writing of essays for this class. The one that I find most noticeable is a habit I had long struggled with which was essentially my tendency to be over necessarily wordy when writing my essays. I believe that I was able to somewhat fix this subconsciously, just by knowing that I was no longer in high school, and could no longer get by with just attempting to fill up my word count. I also believe I have greatly improved in my topic selection. In high school I would throw caution to the wind and just pick whatever topic came to mind just in an effort to get it done. I have been much more calculated in college, and I believe that it has helped me write better essays. While these were the Get more content on HelpWriting.net

I have only learned the basics of writing, like putting together sentences, forming paragraphs with sentences, and things like that. Since I have been taking college English, I can tell my writing has improved a lot. In the future, I hope to be able to improve tremendously at writing essays, paragraphs, research papers, documents, and stories so that I have very little to no errors with drafting and final products. My goals are to write papers and not have to reassure myself that maybe I need to do more research or have more data or even have to rethink my whole topic over. I would love to have the knowledge to be a tutor someday and teach other people how to properly write papers, paragraphs, essays, and maybe even books. To have excellent skills in writing will definitely be a great advantage in my nursing profession. In nursing, I will have to do lots of charting on my patients. I will have to do health presentations on various subjects such as exercising, how our society eats, and sex education if I want to be a course instructor. • 10. Relationship with Writing. Essay My Relationship With Writing Like most people, writing has made an impact on my life. I didn't notice it right away, but once I did it changed my life forever. I consider myself to be a fairly decent writer and I would say it was the only thing that kept me going. I love writing that involves thinking and real emotion. Writing journals and letters have helped me get through a lot in my life and that is really something I will never forget. For the most part, I like to write. I surprise myself sometimes when I read what I have written. Essays don't seem to be that hard for me and most of the time comes naturally to write. Some times it would be a free write where we could write anything on our mind. Most of the time I just wrote on what I had done and how I was feeling that day. Other times, he would write down a quote on the board and we would interpret what we thought it meant. This is where I realized that writing can really have an impact on peoples lives. Things can be interpreted in so many ways and by sharing our thoughts on the quotes, I noticed that not everyone was the same. With my experience in a sophomore English class, this really helped me realize that this is a passion for me. In the beginning of the year, I really dreaded it because I thought I couldn't write a full page in 10 minutes. By the end of the year, I couldn't wait to get to English class to write down how I was feeling or interpret a quote that was chosen. I guess you could say that my favorite type of writing would have to be in journal format. I have enjoyed essay writing and letters just as much though. Since the day one of my best friends left for basic training for the military, I have written him a whole bunch of letters. I enjoyed doing this because not only was it the only way to communicate with him, but it was somewhere I could write down my feelings. Having the opportunity to let things off my chest by writing has probably changed my life. I don't say that lightly because there have been instances where I felt like I was hopeless and having the chance to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. My Experience In English Writing English is a core concept in the Untied States and other countries that has allowed inviduals to advance their knowledge. Not only does English provide an advancement in knowlege, but has created a way for individuals to share their thoughts and feelings through writing. Which is why English is one of the four subjects that is required to be taught in almost every school district in America including mine. I began taking English from a young age which allowed me to take advanced placement English IV my senior year at Tupelo High School. Advanced Placement English IV allowed me to further my education in writing, which in return allowed me to overcome obstacles, low points and discover strengths I never knew I had. Like any other thing in life there are always obstacles individuals face everyday, for me in my English IV class writing was something that was very challenging. The first challenge writing presented to me was trying to organize all of my thoughts, so that it made sense. The first essay I ever wrote in my English class was a journal entry about a memorable experience, so with that being said I decided I would write about the experience I had while hunting with my Dad. The hunting experience with my dad had many different parts, and one of my biggest challenges I had was organizing my thoughts, so that it flowed correctly. Since I was telling a story within my journal I realized that I was jumping around more then I should have and this became a problem. I learned Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. My Writing Habits Essay 1. Over the years, my habits of mind have developed in my writing. My habit of openness stems from learning how to write well developed essays in the beginning of high school. I was introduced to new perspectives on specific topics discussed in class and compared them with my peers. I discovered new ways to take in and present information. I now come into my writing knowing that there are different perspectives on everything. Another habit I've developed is engagement. Ever since elementary school I was taught to engage with my classmates. I shared ideas on what I've learned by raising my hand and sharing with my peers. When others share their ideas I build and compare on my own. Curiosity is another habit I've developed. I've naturally grown Get more content on HelpWriting.net

The three things I learned about are: recognizing an emergency, deciding to help, and call 911 if EMS is needed. Recognizing an emergency is very important. Four factors to notice when something is wrong are: severity, physical distance, relationship, and time exposed. Deciding to help someone in an emergency situation is also important. At sometime everyone in life will have to decide whether to help another person. However, the most important time to make a decision to help is before you ever come up on an emergency. Lastly, it is important to know when to call 911 for help from EMS. However, to know when to call one must be able to tell Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. The Writing Process Essay The Writing Process Writing a paper on the writing process is pretty hard. The writing process is different from one person to another. You come across questions like, 'What exactly is the writing process?'; and 'Must you follow one persons writing process if yours is different?'; This is where I came across the answer to my questions, write however you wish to write. If one person likes free write first and another person likes to write a draft first, let them do how they please. The writing process is something that you figure out yourself as you go through school. I personally think that is why they make us take English for so many years. The only way for someone to improve his or her writing is if a peer reads over it and explains what could be done to improve it. In The Maker's Eye: Revising Your Own Manuscript, Murray says, 'Writers must learn to be their own worst enemy'; (Murray 87). He is trying to say that when it comes to editing, you must be able to accept criticism from others and be suspicious of it. Just because they say that you should rearrange that paragraph doesn't necessarily mean you have to. The way you wrote the paragraph could be in your own voice. Your papers should be filled with your voice. Voice is what makes your writing personal. But your voice could be different depending on what you write about. I would put a lot more of my feelings in a paper about food, than a paper about how the polar ice caps are melting. Revising and rewriting a paper is a common step in the writing process. Personally, I think your paper would be crap if you skipped these steps but I'm sure someone has done it before. Every writer has revised and rewritten a paper. Do you think that Shakespeare wrote Romeo and Juliet in one shot? I don't think so. In conclusion, writing is up to the writer. If the writer decides to follow the formal writing process, then that's their choice. Nothing should be forced when it comes to writing. Then the writer does not put out their best work possible. CT includes Fiedler's proposal of predominance and interaction between relationship or taskoriented leadership styles, as well as Hersey and Blanchard's focus on the characteristics of followers as producing favorable or unfavorable results, followed by the path–goal theory, Vroom Jago model, and substitutes–for–leadership approaches. My shoes are soon soaked; with each step I take, I feel a puddle of water move beneath my feet. The rain hurls itself violently on the dark, slippery pavement. My hair is dripping with ice–cold raindrops which plummet to the earth with every movement I make. The numbing effect of the icy downpour is finally setting in. Fierce thunder clouds sneak into the murderous sky and flashing lightning strikes begin. The rain falls faster and heavier. My feet move quickly as I run down the road. I rush into my house and proceed to stare out the window and observe the vicious storm that is only...show more content... As a person lets the cool rain wash over them, a feeling of renewal and cleanliness is created. Depression rates skyrocket during the dark and dreary seasons. This condition is known as Seasonal Affective Disorder. About 5–percent of adults in the United States live with this condition. The loss of sunlight and increase of poor weather – snow, rain, wind– contribute to the severity of the disorder. During the fall and winter months, it often rains. This is one contributing factor to SAD. Although rain can be light and happy, it can also be extremely harsh. Thunderstorms are often present during heavy rainstorms. The electric flashes of light bring about nothing but fear; the pounding rain only intensifies the storm. It is easy to see why the mere sight of rain depresses some people. When rain is mentioned, I think of light ecstatic sprinkling. However, because of the different experiences each individual has, the opposite conclusion could be made. Rain drops strongly resemble teardrops. Because of this astounding resemblance, a connection between sad teardrops and rain is made. During a rain storm, the sky is not clear and blue; it is murky and gray. Colors have feelings associated with them. Blue is happy and bubbly while gray is sad and dull. A depressed person will take a quick look at the rain and jump back in their beds. It seems like in every good love story there is always a passionate kissing scene. • 18. Essay My Thoughts on Writing My Thoughts on Writing The only thing I care about; the only thing I hope to get from this course, is some improvement in my ability to write what I think –– explain ideas and feelings to other people. I don't give a damn about anything else, and so far I haven't been disappointed. At the beginning of the course I was informed that we were going to be discussing exposition, which isn't so much a kind of writing as a purpose or attitude behind it. This purpose is to explore, unfold, or develop an idea or issue. And the sense I've gotten from our discussion is that the attitude is one of intellectual honesty, of dedication to learning something and reporting what's there , instead of protecting preconceived notions or projecting agendas...show more content... A friend of mine has already graduated from a university, and she recently went through a whole crate of papers she wrote in the process. She told me she couldn't remember what many of them were about; couldn't even remember writing most of them. We've talked about "themewriting"as something written for and from a closed environment: a mini–universe apart from everyday life, with its own abbreviated rules, in which oversimplification is acceptable. When I consider the sheer tonnage of the stuff that's written every midquarter and finals week around here, it sure seems that most of it is intended to, deserves to, and does head right for the wastebasket immediately when it's of no further use in that universe: after it's recorded in the grade book. "Commitment" is a term applied to solid exposition, and themewriting frequently lacks it. Does anyone like to do this –– does it provide a warm, human, joyous feeling of having made contact and saying something Important? Or do we just get comfortable doing it? Like being an accountant: is there a real sense of joy to be found in adding up columns of figures? There may be some people who would tell me "sure, it's fun," but I think actually they're just feeling safe in a sort of half–sleep state which isn't exactly happy and may in fact be miserable, but at least is stable. There may be a different kind of warmth, reserved for "a job well done," and "I might get a promotion," and most especially: "I feel good Get more content on HelpWriting.net

I'm still a little angry about that day because it was my fifth birthday and I still remember that I didn't get to wear a crown on that day like the rest of my classmates did on their birthdays. I guess I didn't get to wear the crown because it was the first day of school. But besides that, kindergarten was a really great year. In the mornings we'd go around the classroom to different stations and play different games, then we'd go to P.E., thenlunch, and finally nap time. I learned different ways to write and I believe that I always met my teacher's expectations in my papers. I remember in fifth grade I had to write my first autobiography. That was the only time until now that I got to write entirely about myself. It's a project that I'll never forget. My teacher gave us about a month to write this paper and put a book together. The book consisted of my paper and pictures all glued to construction paper. In that autobiography I wrote about my time growing up, my family, my friends, my hobbies, etc. My parents still have that book. It was such an impacting project. It was really nice to reflect on my time growing up and the things I enjoyed. When I was eight years old, I learned how to play the piano. Well that's exactly how I felt, thought, and did with this writing journey. Coming up with something to say about my writing journey has been difficult. I would be bold enough to say nearly impossible. So impossible it's like trying to get a camel through the eye of a needle. Okay that might be an exaggeration, but it has been difficult. The idea that I have a writing journey I understand. But thinking of an event or something that has made my writing the way it is has been difficult. So, what I've decided to do then is to write about my writing journey writing this paper. It all started the morning of August 22, 2017. I don't remember what the weather was, or even what I had for breakfast. But I do remember wondering how to get to the Metro Campus of Tulsa Community College or TCC for short. Throughout the past semester, the quality of my writing has evolved significantly. At first, I struggled with the separation of different types of paragraphs, and I found writing them laborious. Constant practice, however, has eliminated many of my original difficulties, and helped to inspire confidence in my skills. Finding an introductory paragraph that hooks the reader can be troublesome, but throughout the course, I have spent considerable time developing that technique. The body of my arguments each exhibit strong support for the thesis. In addition, my conclusions summarize the papers without restating unnecessary information. Overall, my comprehension of the basic format of an argument has proved to be a valuable asset. The weakest portion of my writing is my lack of good proofreading. All papers require a significant amount of proofreading not only for grammatical errors, but also for structural problems. Proofreading my own work is difficult. Many times, I wrongly assume that the reader is able to understand my thoughts, while the various points of my argument are actually not expressed clearly. In some instances, I fail to catch obvious errors, such as sentence fragments or contractions, which I should be able to eliminate easily from my writing. Proofreading my own work has consistently been the most difficult part of my writing process, and I continue to struggle with catching all of the errors in my papers. Analyzing my strengths and weaknesses as a writer is extremely important. Despite the fact that I understand the structure of a good argument, I still miss obvious errors in my papers because I lack the skills necessary to properly proofread my own work. • 23. The First And Hardest Part Of Writing An Essay The first and hardest part of writing an essay is figuring out how to start. A professor may give a topic to be written about, but in some cases that may not happen. The first step is to pick a topic. The topic will serve as your thesis. You want to pick a topic that you are relatively knowledgeable about so you are not completely in the dark. By picking a topic that you know even a little about, will take away the anxiety of not knowing where to start or what to write about. If you chose to challenge yourself and write a paper about something you are novice about, then you want to pick a topic that is broad enough to find enough information about. For example, if you want to write a paper about cars, do not make cars what your paper is about, because although it is a broad topic it is also somewhat narrow. Try to broaden your topic buy changing it to, "how cars have changed our lives." Changing your topic to a more argumentative thesis gives you a pinpoint area to write about and leaves the door open to give you more to write about. The second step, and what I believe to be the most important step is locating sources to support your thesis. A researchessay without sources becomes an opinion essay, and that is what you as the writer want to stay away from. Sources make your essay more creditable. If your essay is about "how technology has benefited students and teachers in the classrooms," then you should find sources that are about how technology is used in Get more content on HelpWriting.net
