5. NUCLEAR ENERGY
• Nuclear Energy is released when atom undergoes nuclear
fission.
• PROCESS:
Heavy atoms bombarded with low
energy neutrons
Tremendous amount of
energy released
Released energy used to
produce steam and generate
electricity

6. Advantages of nuclear power generation:
• Nuclear power generation does emit relatively low amounts of carbon dioxide
(CO2).The emissions of green house gases and therefore the contribution of
nuclear power plants to global warming is therefore relatively little.
• This technology is readily available, it does not have to be developed first.
• It is possible to generate a high amount of electrical energy in one single plant.
Disadvantages of nuclear power generation:
• The waste from nuclear energy is extremely dangerous and it has to be carefully
looked after for several thousand years (10'000 years according to United States
Environmental Protection Agency standards).
• High risks: Despite a generally high security standard, accidents can still happen.
A small probability of failure will always last. The consequences of an accident
would be absolutely devastating both for human being as for the nature .
7. INDIA’s RENEWABLE ENERGY FUTURE
PROSPECTS
• We have a target for renewable energy generation of 175
gigawatts by 2022.
• We have got off to a good start with nearly 12 GW likely to be
installed by 2016, more than three times the current capacity.
• Target capacity, 100 GW would be from solar power, 60 GW
from wind, 10 GW from biomass and 5 GW from small hydro
power, according to the Union Ministry of New and
Renewable Energy.
8. CONCLUSION
• There is an urgent need for transition from petroleum based
energy system to one based on renewable resources to
decrease reliance on depleting reserve e of fossil fuels and to
mitigate climate change.
• It has potential to create employment opportunities especially
at all levels especially at rural level.
• An emphasis on presenting the real picture of massive
renewable energy potential, it would be possible to attract
foreign investments to herald a Green Energy Revolution in
India.
