ATTENDANCE PROCEDURE
If your child is ill, going out of
town, or will be late to school,
please call the school office at
476-3035 by 8:45 a.m.
Dear McGary Families and Friends,
Happy New Year! We hope your winter break was enjoyable, and you are ready to
make 2015 a great year at McGary.
This time of year the weather is often unpredictable. Please make sure that you
have updated phone numbers with us so that you receive the Connect-Ed phone
calls regarding school delays and closings! Also, from now until spring break, pants
or skirts are allowed, but students are not allowed to wear shorts to school.
Our after school programs will begin again on January 21st.
The boys basketball season began this month. Games start at 5pm this year, and
admission price is $1 for students and $3 for adults. The EVSC policy regarding
students attending ballgames is as follows. Middle school students may attend
home games under the supervision of the staff and administration at their school;
however, students who wish to attend away games must be accompanied by parent/
guardian. We do not have supervision until game time, so students who wish to
attend ballgames MUST go home after school and return to McGary for the game.
Thank you for working with us at McGary to provide the best education for your
child. Please call or come in to let us know of any questions or concerns that you
may have.
Sincerely,
Tammy Dexter

HARRISON FOOTBALL WORKOUTS
If your son is interested in playing football next fall, winter workouts have started at Harrison High School. This
is a great opportunity to build speed and strength, along with learning the fundamentals of football from the Var-
sity coaches. We meet every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday
from 3:00-4:30. The kids are bussed from McGary to Harrison af-
ter school on these days. You MUST pick them up from Harrison
at 4:30. Your child cannot attend if they do not have a ride
home. You need to pick them up on the east side of the school, in
the small parking lot next to the football field. If there are any
questions, feel free to contact Mr. Barrett. Go Warriors!

Theatre Arts Historic Architecture Field Trip
In December, Theater students read the mystery play , “Trifles”, by Susan Glaspell, which is set in the 1930's. Stu-
dents researched interiors of houses and buildings from the 1920’s in order to create a box set scene design model.
They created designs/textures for wall applications through painting techniques to recreate wall coverings of this
time period. On February 20th, students will be involved in a field trip which will center on a look at Evansville's
Historic Architecture. The goal of our project is to introduce students to professions related to theatre which have
real- world impact. Theatre arts students will experience speakers & architecture which emphasizes professions
including engineering, planning & construction, renovation, and large scale event planning. Students will witness
renovations and research historic architectural details of local buildings. During their Artitude lesson at CMOE,
students will discover architecture features from the 1920’ s and complete a scavenger hunt. Their ability to recog-
nize minute details will be the focus of this experience. Student will then travel to Willard Library where they will
continue their research through exploration of their community. They will have chosen a building, builder/
craftsman or event to research. Guest Allen Higgins director of Architectural and Cultural History for Cultural
Resource Analysts Inc. and president of Preservation Alliance of Evansville will field questions from students to
aid their research. Students will then design their page on McGary’s Googlesite: “Exploring Evansville Via Archi-
tecture”. This site will be linked to McGary’s home page. By researching and publishing their findings, students
will not only gain insight about careers, preservation, and appreciation, they will give their community a different
perspective of landmarks as seen through their eyes. This field trip was sponsored by a grant from the Evansville
Teacher's Association.

Stu- dents researched interiors of houses and buildings from the 1920’s in order to create a box set scene design model. They created designs/textures for wall applications through painting techniques to recreate wall coverings of this time period. On February 20th, students will be involved in a field trip which will center on a look at Evansville's Historic Architecture. The goal of our project is to introduce students to professions related to theatre which have real- world impact. Theatre arts students will experience speakers & architecture which emphasizes professions including engineering, planning & construction, renovation, and large scale event planning. Students will witness renovations and research historic architectural details of local buildings. During their Artitude lesson at CMOE, students will discover architecture features from the 1920’ s and complete a scavenger hunt. Their ability to recog- nize minute details will be the focus of this experience. Student will then travel to Willard Library where they will continue their research through exploration of their community. They will have chosen a building, builder/ craftsman or event to research. Guest Allen Higgins director of Architectural and Cultural History for Cultural Resource Analysts Inc. and president of Preservation Alliance of Evansville will field questions from students to aid their research. Students will then design their page on McGary’s Googlesite: “Exploring Evansville Via Archi- tecture”. This site will be linked to McGary’s home page. By researching and publishing their findings, students will not only gain insight about careers, preservation, and appreciation, they will give their community a different perspective of landmarks as seen through their eyes. This field trip was sponsored by a grant from the Evansville Teacher's Association.
