Treatment presentation
1. AS Media Coursework
Treatment Presentation
In this presentation we will be discussing our plans for
the fourth coming months in terms of our media
coursework and breaking down the order of shots and
discussing our chosen locations.
2. Title of the film: Captive
● We were fairly spontaneous in choosing the title for the opening scene. The
main reason we agreed on the title ‘Captive’ was because the one word evokes
many relatable emotions throughout the film and creates a common
underlying theme throughout the opening scene.
● Below, is our prototype font that we believe fits best with the genre and
elements of the opening scene.
3. Genre and how we intend to establish it
● Genre: Spy / Action
● In order to establish this genre, we will make sure particular elements of the film consistent
throughout the opening scene in order to reinforce the idea of spy and action through the use
of four main factors…
■ Colour correction (dark for abandoned house, light for offices)
■ Music (climactic music in areas and atmospheric music)
■ Locations (contrasting locations to emphasise atmosphere)
■ Costumes (Suits for agents, rough cloths for kidnapper)
5. The tone and atmosphere we are creating
The atmosphere we are try to get across to the audience is one which keeps them on their toes, one
minute we show the abandoned conditions and next we cut back to the business centre. It creates a
juxtaposition and a nice contrast. This sets the audience up nicely for the rest of the movie. As a
result of this, the tone may be quite unpredictable in the sense that the audience may not know
what's to come but are eager to carry on watching.
● Rustic metal
● Dark for stealth
● Light for happiness
● Abandoned buildings (Poor and gloomy)
● Business center (Upper class)
● No plants can represent death as in conventional society, plants are symbolic to life. Also,
plants represent growth which may be like the progression to the rescue of the kidnapped man
and the storyline.
6. Target audience
● Captive is designed to be viewed by everyone, hence the reason why we have made it a 12A.
This is so we can widen the target audience and generate the most amount of money out of
the opening scene as possible because anybody can go and see it no matter what their age is.
However, this means we are restricted in some ways as we can;t contain much swearing and
the violence can’t be too graphic. In order to stick with the BBFC's guidelines, we will refer to
their rules and regulations for 12A films.
7. Locations
● We will be filming at 3 main locations that will be important in creating the atmosphere and to
contrast one another throughout the opening scene.
Name Address Reason for Location
Salesforce Tower 110 Bishopsgate, London EC2N 4AY An upper class and prestigious location chosen to
compliment the agents in suits. This will contrast
perfectly with the run down and abandoned house.
Abandoned Location Bridgewater Rd, Wembley, Greater
London HA0
This is where the kidnapped man will be dumped
by the russian kidnapper in order to be left for
death.
Town Centre Car Park Reading, West Berkshire RG1 2AG This location is going to occur at the very start of
the opening scene. This location won't be featured
too prominently as we will be using extreme close
ups in terms of montage editing to represent the
stealthiness and efficiency of the kidnap.
8. Risk Assessment
Hazard People at risk Risk control in place Risk assessment (LOW.

9. Influence from other films
For our film opening we've used both ‘James Bond’ and ‘Kingsman: The secret
service’ for inspiration. The upper class variation of espionage is something we
focus on throughout our opening, whether it be a skyrise building in central
London or an old derelict property we make sure to incorporate that smug
affluence that characters such as James Bond have.
