1. The ideas Filipinos in the USA are invisible to others and even to
themselves; we get “lost” in the mix.
2. FIlipinos are the least researched of the Asian American groups
in the United States.
3. Racial categories shift and change historically.
4. There are waves of different “kinds” of Filipinos to the US:
Pensionados, Manual Laborers, Domestics, Military, Nurse +
Professional waves.
5. Generations: 1st generation immigrated, 2nd generation are born
here, 3rd generation are the children of 2nd generation. There’s a
notion of 1.5 generation, too.

Filipino Values. For each value, briefly discuss
your interest in that value. What’s personally,
politically, academically important about each
value?
2. List four or five compelling ideas from your Nadal
reading (quotes and paraphrases). For each

or meaningful about that point. Why is it
