1.What is the formal meaning of psychology?
-in my formal meaning, the word Psychology"psyche" per the above definitions in the sense of mind,
thought, and emotions. Most would also agree they have a "soul" per the second definition above relating
to man's mental, moral or emotional nature. We might all have different notions about what these
ultimately are, but few could sanely disagree they exist. And the derivation of "psyche" comes from Latin
and the Greek psukhe - breath, life, soul. To get a better "feel" for this term try to think of it as the
invisible animating principle or entity that occupies, interacts with and directs the physical body. is the
science of the mind and behavior.Itsit theResearch of psychology seeks to understand and explain how we

-The nature versus nurture debate is one of the oldest issues in psychology. Currently, the argument of
Nature vs. Nurture is being argued in the recent adoptions from Russian orphanages. The emotional bias

a child's brain can be damaged beyond what nurture can repair.

-Many people reference William James as the father of psychology. It's certainly what I was taught as
an undergraduate psychology student.Wundt was a similarly significant figure, though less well known in
some quarters.I think the consensus is that they were between them the fathers of psychology - of two
diffferent main strands of what is a multifaceted discipline.he considered such because by some as the
father of psychology was addicted to cocaine for many years and prescribed it to his patients, at the time
it was legal. By today's standards he would be called a drug dealer. In the future will psychologist be
viewed in the same way from their use of mind altering drugs. Is this type of treatment really a cure or
just masking the symptoms.
5.What were the chemes focus of psychology during the latter 19th century?
-eventually during 19th century psychology was focus into the progressed, the problem of the
relationship of mind to brain became ever more pressing. Indeed, so deep was the concern with
mind/brain relations that it is difficult to find a systematic text written after 1860 that does not contain
a discussion of this issue. To a large extent, this directly reflected two major developments that
converged to impress philosophers and psychologists with the centrality of the mind/brain problem. The
first of these involved progress in understanding the localization of cerebral function, based on the idea
that the brain serves as the organ of mind. The second involved a growing familiarity with the thesis that
mental events -- beliefs, mental suggestions, mesmeric trance states, psychic traumas and the like --
sometimes bring about radical alterations in the state of the body.
