It was an uneventful midmorning day, on the general medical floor; a list of patients already drawn out with what needed to be completed during our
shift. A group of people huddled together discussing treatment plans and options. At that present time, rounding was just for physicians and physician
assistants. But dietitians were recently included, so I got to watch as the providers presented their cases to one another. One individual stood out above

I fell backwards and heard a crack, after that all I remember is excruciating pain. I was rushed to ER, there was my first encounter with caring and

On the eve of my fifth birthday, my mother was rushed to the hospital for an emergency C–section. On this night, my sister was born two and a half
months premature with a gastrointestinal blockage that sent her straight to the operating room and kept her in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for
over three months. Unfortunately, I only had the opportunity to visit my sister a handful of times; my parents adamantly claimed the hospital was "no
place for kids". The fact that the hospital was off–limits to me peaked my curiosity about what transpired behind the closed doors. I yearned to
understand the roles the doctors and nurses played in helping my sister come home. I also longed to see my parents smile and converse in their
usual, carefree manner. These months were extremely difficult, as I struggled to grasp the rich complexity of the situation. At a tender age, I was
exposed to the frailty of life and the stresses of illness on a family. Moreover, I developed a reverence for the physicians who enabled my sister to come
home and live a normal, healthy life.

A majority of the states do not currently have licensure, and there are no national licensure laws either. I grew up and live in Wisconsin, which is
currently not a licensure state, but I know many people here who would rather use a Naturopathic Physician as their primary physician rather than a
conventional physician. However, with the current laws, a Naturopathic Physician cannot be a primary physician. There are still many wonderful
Naturopaths working in Wisconsin, and I see one of those Physicians. However, they are limited in their scope of practice because they do not have

This can make it hard to treat patients who need certain treatments. In addition, they are often blocked from using certain modalities that would help the

abilities, the patients lose. It is important that patients throughout the US have the opportunity to receive Naturopathic treatment if that is what they
