Intel
Intel is an American multinational corporation founded in the
year 1968 by two American Engineers Gordon Moore and
Robert Noyce. The initial investment for Intel was $2.5 million
dollars arranged by an investor Arthur Rock. The two engineers
both worked at Fairchild semiconductor and after establishing
Intel let with most of its employees.
Intel manufactures devices related to computers like processers,
motherboard chipsets, flash memory, graphic chips and
integrated circuits. The corporation also supplies processors to
big computer manufacturers like Apple Inc, Lenovo, HP and
Dell. Their first products were the micro chip and the first metal
oxide semiconductor. The oxide semiconductor failures led to
better and improved dynamic Random Access Memory chip. The
corporation has been modifying and developing new products
from then to meet a customer base made of computer
manufacturers and individuals. The corporation is well known
for their processors which are found in over 70% of all
computers due to its supply of major computer manufacturers.
Intel Corporation is recognized throughout the world as a
reputable company. Through the years the company has
appeared in Forbes list with the current being in 2019 where
they were named the most reputable companies for efforts in
innovation and governance. (Intel, n.d.). The company is listed
as the 14th most in the Forbes list of world’s most reputable
brands. (Intel, n.d.). There are many awards which show that
Intel Corporation is one of the leading brands in the world. The
awards are also for workforce, ethics and admiration and this is
why I chose Intel Corporation. The company has a rich history
and its thirst for innovation in the computing industry keeps
getting bigger every time.
The company has a rich history from the start in July 1968 to
the current time being ranked as one of the best globally. The
original business plan stated the company would be
manufacturing integrated circuits in a larger scale. The past 15
years has seen tremendous growth in Intel Corporation. Apple
Inc decided its entire PC’s would in future use Intel CPU’s.
This was a big leap for Intel as currently Intel and its Intel
compatible microprocessors are literally found in every PC in
the world. (Hall, 2019). This is the same period the company
appeared in Fortune 500 list of big companies. It is also during
this period that Intel has made a lot of acquisitions to boost its
brand. The acquisition of Infineon Technologies to be used on
laptops, smartphones and tablets, Telmap the Israeli software
company and Password box. In total Intel made more than
twenty acquisitions over the last 15 years to boost its business.
There have been expansions like the new processor
manufacturing facility in Arizona which was completed in 2013.
In 2011 a pilot project with ZTE Corporation to incorporate its
processor Intel Atom in mobile markets.
The company’s strategic goal of developing products that
competitors cannot match has seen a big growth in its
innovation department. The company keeps coming up with new
innovations that are better than the last ones and are spurring
growth in the company. There have been major changes in the
company over the last 15 years. The changes have not only been
on management but also with the way business is conducted.
The period between 2010 to 2019 saw the acquisition of
software and other technology companies in order to keep up
with the changes in the technology industry. The same period
also saw investments in companies which were deemed as
partners that could help Intel achieve its goals. The partnership
with ZTE Technologies to try and penetrate the Chinese market
is one of the major partnerships. In 2012 Intel partnered with
Google where Google’s Androids 2.3 used Intel’s Atom
microprocessor. The dwindling sales of CPU’s have also led the
company to focus on other devices like smart phones, laptops
and tablets. The company introduced new mobile processor
technology in June 2011and this helped the company increase
its share in global processor market to 82%.
Intel’s first CEO was co founder Robert Noyce in 1968. He was
succeeded by co founder Gordon Moore in 1975 followed by
Andy Grove who eventually handed the reins to Paul Otellini in
2005. Otellini retired in 2012 and was succeeded by Brian
Krzanich who had to resign in 2018 and was replaced by Bob
Swan. The main role of the CEO over the past year has been to
oversee the growth of the company. During the tenure of
Otellini revenue grew by over 50% while Krzanich oversaw the
most mergers and acquisitions during his tenure as he steered
the company towards changes in the technology sector.
The existing mission statement of delighting stakeholders by
delivering advancements in technology that are essential in the
way they work and live and the code of ethics which states that
business should be conducted with professionalism, honesty and
integrity and treating stakeholders with fairness and respect.
The company has various community based programs that have
benefited the community in lifting up their lives. In New
Mexico Intel is the leading employer. These two statements
have been the driving force in achieving global status for the
company.
Brian Krzanich a former CEO had to resign due to relationship
with an employee. Patent infringement lawsuits. These two
scenarios are of ethical concern for a company that markets
itself with integrity, professionalism, honesty and respect.
The new mission statement should be; Intel advancing
technology to empower you. The mission statement is to set a
path for the company to make more advancement in technology
through better innovations that will make life easier for the
customer. The changes have been made to make a simple
statement showing the customer is the king.

Running head SWOT Analysis

Intel has been leading in the manufacture of microprocessors for
the past decades. This success can be attributed to the business
strategy that addresses the strength, weaknesses, opportunities
and threats (SWOT). SWOT analysis is used to decide the most
critical internal strategic factors which are the strength and
weaknesses and external strategic factors which are
opportunities and threats that influence the performance of the
corporation. Intel as a leader in global business must be able to
use its strengths and overcome its weaknesses.
Strengths
As the business world is changing more companies are relying
on human assets rather than the traditional fixed assets.
Businesses are valued based on human capital and one Intel’s
strength is being able to hire and retain the best talents in the
market. This can be seen on the strength of some of its
innovations over the years. Intel motivates its employees and
keeps them on toes through rotating them into new positions
every 18 to 24 months. This encourages the employees to learn
new things and opens up the door for future growth.
Weaknesses
The changes taking place in the technology industry require
companies to be able to diversify into new developments taking
place each day. The mobile industry’s growth is one of the areas
Intel has been unable to make its presence felt. (Ferguson,
2017). There have been attempts to penetrate the mobile market
like the pilot project with ZTE Corporation and Google. The
company relies heavily on windows machine and this
partnership with Microsoft has made it impossible to focus on
development of other products for other markets.
Opportunities
Intel’s growth is also dependant on external factors like
available business opportunities. The mobile market offers new
business opportunities for the company. Intel has gone ahead
and developed products that would help in penetrating the
market. Intel’s Atom microprocessor was developed for
Google’s android 2.3 and also the introduction new mobile
processor technology in June 2011. The company’s sociacultural
factors are influencing its business environment in a positive
way. The company interacts with its followers and customers
via social media and the internet has made it possible for the
company to create better products and hence create
opportunities for online communication and network gaming.
(Ferguson, 2017). There various economic factors that have
created opportunities for the company. Developing markets are
growing at a faster rate trying to catch up with already
established markets. This creates opportunity for Intel due to
increased purchase rates in these markets. Other factors include
an increase in disposable income which has also increased
purchasing power and stable economies in developing markets.
All these create opportunities for the company to thrive.
Threats
Legal issues are the major threats affecting Intel Corporation.
The company recently was sued by over 30 shareholders and
customers over security flaws in their microchips. Over the
years the company has had to settle outside the court after
facing lawsuits over intellectual property. The growth of mobile
market has led to most of Intel’s competitors to invest heavily
into product development which is a major threat to the
company that is trying to penetrate the mobile market.
The SWOT analysis is beneficial in trying to find solutions for
the weaknesses and finding ways to deal with the threats. In
also assist in capitalizing on the strengths and available
opportunities. The analysis has led to the below strategic goals
for the company;
· Increasing market share in the mobile market.
· Increasing sales
· Increasing our product line to match the needs of all our
clientele.

Market analysis involves a quantitative and qualitative
assessment of the market. The analysis will look into the size of
the market, the completion, customers and the economic
environment. Intel manufactures computer devices like
processers, motherboard chipsets, flash memory, graphic chips
and integrated circuits. The big computer manufacturers like
Apple Inc, Lenovo, HP and Dell use Intel’s processors in their
computers. This means the company’s core business is the
manufacture of processors. The growing mobile market has also
seen the company trying to increase its presence in that market.
The industry has been growing over the last few years as seen
with the growth of the company’s revenue which grew in 2016
from $59.4 billion to $70.8 billion. As at the current year a
combined $412.02 billion will be spent on sales of semi
conductors. The current semiconductors are on the maturity
state. The industry is largely saturated with competitors like
AMD also increasing their market share. The company has
begun changing its products to meet market demands with the
release of the new 10nm chips. The competition is high and
sales have started to shrink. Target markets for Intel will
include big computer manufacturing companies, consumers and
resellers. Big computer companies are the biggest customers as
they will use the semi conductors in production of their
desktops and notebooks. Customers also form part of the target
market as they use the semi conductors to replace worn out in
their desktops and notebooks. The company will need authorize
resellers from across the globe to sale their products worldwide.
Big computer companies are companies dealing with the
manufacture of computers and notebooks. These companies
have a high customer base for their products and usually sale
their products worldwide. They use the semiconductors during
the manufacture of their products. These big companies are
looking for innovative company that is able to change with the
changes in technology and packages that suit their products.
The companies have various products for their customers and
require customized semiconductors for each product. The
company should be able to change based on technological
changes in the market. The target market is not a niche as
products are not developed specifically to meet certain markets
but these are big companies that develop products that suit the
whole market. They make sure that their products are acceptable
to the whole market.
The biggest competitor in the semiconductors industry is
Advanced Micro Devices. This company develops computer
processors for both business and consumers and is based in
Santa Clara USA. The company has reliable suppliers of the raw
materials it uses in the manufacture of computer processors.
The company is also good at developing new products and
keeping at par with new technologies in the market. Some of the
weaknesses of the company are; a very low rate of investment in
research and technology which makes it unable to compete with
some leading industry players. When compared with other
companies in the industry their attrition rate is higher in the
workforce as they spend a lot in training and developing their
workers.
Intel’s strategy market is the same as Advanced Micro Devices
since both companies have their computer processors in
desktops and notebooks. There is an increase in Personal
computer sales and notebooks that have AMD’s micro
processor.
One legal trend that will affect how Intel does business is
lawsuits due to data privacy. The hefty fines charged have led
to Intel sponsoring a bill in Congress to shield them from such
fines. The bill will make sure they are protected if they attest to
the US Federal Trade Commission that strong measures have
been taken to protect consumer data.

Running head Company Selection And Mission StatementCompany Se.docx

  • 1. Running head Company Selection And Mission Statement Company Selection And Mission Statement Company Selection and Mission Statement Name Course Institution Intel Intel is an American multinational corporation founded in the year 1968 by two American Engineers Gordon Moore and Robert Noyce. The initial investment for Intel was $2.5 million dollars arranged by an investor Arthur Rock. The two engineers both worked at Fairchild semiconductor and after establishing Intel let with most of its employees. Intel manufactures devices related to computers like processers, motherboard chipsets, flash memory, graphic chips and integrated circuits. The corporation also supplies processors to big computer manufacturers like Apple Inc, Lenovo, HP and Dell. Their first products were the micro chip and the first metal oxide semiconductor. The oxide semiconductor failures led to better and improved dynamic Random Access Memory chip. The corporation has been modifying and developing new products from then to meet a customer base made of computer manufacturers and individuals. The corporation is well known for their processors which are found in over 70% of all computers due to its supply of major computer manufacturers. Intel Corporation is recognized throughout the world as a reputable company. Through the years the company has appeared in Forbes list with the current being in 2019 where they were named the most reputable companies for efforts in innovation and governance. (Intel, n.d.). The company is listed
  • 2. as the 14th most in the Forbes list of world’s most reputable brands. (Intel, n.d.). There are many awards which show that Intel Corporation is one of the leading brands in the world. The awards are also for workforce, ethics and admiration and this is why I chose Intel Corporation. The company has a rich history and its thirst for innovation in the computing industry keeps getting bigger every time. The company has a rich history from the start in July 1968 to the current time being ranked as one of the best globally. The original business plan stated the company would be manufacturing integrated circuits in a larger scale. The past 15 years has seen tremendous growth in Intel Corporation. Apple Inc decided its entire PC’s would in future use Intel CPU’s. This was a big leap for Intel as currently Intel and its Intel compatible microprocessors are literally found in every PC in the world. (Hall, 2019). This is the same period the company appeared in Fortune 500 list of big companies. It is also during this period that Intel has made a lot of acquisitions to boost its brand. The acquisition of Infineon Technologies to be used on laptops, smartphones and tablets, Telmap the Israeli software company and Password box. In total Intel made more than twenty acquisitions over the last 15 years to boost its business. There have been expansions like the new processor manufacturing facility in Arizona which was completed in 2013. In 2011 a pilot project with ZTE Corporation to incorporate its processor Intel Atom in mobile markets. The company’s strategic goal of developing products that competitors cannot match has seen a big growth in its innovation department. The company keeps coming up with new innovations that are better than the last ones and are spurring growth in the company. There have been major changes in the company over the last 15 years. The changes have not only been on management but also with the way business is conducted. The period between 2010 to 2019 saw the acquisition of software and other technology companies in order to keep up with the changes in the technology industry. The same period
  • 3. also saw investments in companies which were deemed as partners that could help Intel achieve its goals. The partnership with ZTE Technologies to try and penetrate the Chinese market is one of the major partnerships. In 2012 Intel partnered with Google where Google’s Androids 2.3 used Intel’s Atom microprocessor. The dwindling sales of CPU’s have also led the company to focus on other devices like smart phones, laptops and tablets. The company introduced new mobile processor technology in June 2011and this helped the company increase its share in global processor market to 82%. Intel’s first CEO was co founder Robert Noyce in 1968. He was succeeded by co founder Gordon Moore in 1975 followed by Andy Grove who eventually handed the reins to Paul Otellini in 2005. Otellini retired in 2012 and was succeeded by Brian Krzanich who had to resign in 2018 and was replaced by Bob Swan. The main role of the CEO over the past year has been to oversee the growth of the company. During the tenure of Otellini revenue grew by over 50% while Krzanich oversaw the most mergers and acquisitions during his tenure as he steered the company towards changes in the technology sector. The existing mission statement of delighting stakeholders by delivering advancements in technology that are essential in the way they work and live and the code of ethics which states that business should be conducted with professionalism, honesty and integrity and treating stakeholders with fairness and respect. The company has various community based programs that have benefited the community in lifting up their lives. In New Mexico Intel is the leading employer. These two statements have been the driving force in achieving global status for the company. Brian Krzanich a former CEO had to resign due to relationship with an employee. Patent infringement lawsuits. These two scenarios are of ethical concern for a company that markets itself with integrity, professionalism, honesty and respect. The new mission statement should be; Intel advancing
  • 4. technology to empower you. The mission statement is to set a path for the company to make more advancement in technology through better innovations that will make life easier for the customer. The changes have been made to make a simple statement showing the customer is the king. References Intel (n.d.) Company overview. This success can be attributed to the business strategy that addresses the strength, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT). SWOT analysis is used to decide the most critical internal strategic factors which are the strength and weaknesses and external strategic factors which are opportunities and threats that influence the performance of the corporation. Intel as a leader in global business must be able to
  • 5. use its strengths and overcome its weaknesses. Strengths As the business world is changing more companies are relying on human assets rather than the traditional fixed assets. Businesses are valued based on human capital and one Intel’s strength is being able to hire and retain the best talents in the market. This can be seen on the strength of some of its innovations over the years. Intel motivates its employees and keeps them on toes through rotating them into new positions every 18 to 24 months. This encourages the employees to learn new things and opens up the door for future growth. Weaknesses The changes taking place in the technology industry require companies to be able to diversify into new developments taking place each day. The mobile industry’s growth is one of the areas Intel has been unable to make its presence felt. (Ferguson, 2017). There have been attempts to penetrate the mobile market like the pilot project with ZTE Corporation and Google. The company relies heavily on windows machine and this partnership with Microsoft has made it impossible to focus on development of other products for other markets. Opportunities Intel’s growth is also dependant on external factors like available business opportunities. The mobile market offers new business opportunities for the company. Intel has gone ahead and developed products that would help in penetrating the market. Intel’s Atom microprocessor was developed for Google’s android 2.3 and also the introduction new mobile processor technology in June 2011. The company’s sociacultural factors are influencing its business environment in a positive way. The company interacts with its followers and customers via social media and the internet has made it possible for the company to create better products and hence create
  • 6. opportunities for online communication and network gaming. (Ferguson, 2017). There various economic factors that have created opportunities for the company. Developing markets are growing at a faster rate trying to catch up with already established markets. This creates opportunity for Intel due to increased purchase rates in these markets. Other factors include an increase in disposable income which has also increased purchasing power and stable economies in developing markets. All these create opportunities for the company to thrive. Threats Legal issues are the major threats affecting Intel Corporation. The company recently was sued by over 30 shareholders and customers over security flaws in their microchips. Over the years the company has had to settle outside the court after facing lawsuits over intellectual property. The growth of mobile market has led to most of Intel’s competitors to invest heavily into product development which is a major threat to the company that is trying to penetrate the mobile market. The SWOT analysis is beneficial in trying to find solutions for the weaknesses and finding ways to deal with the threats. In also assist in capitalizing on the strengths and available opportunities. The analysis has led to the below strategic goals for the company; · Increasing market share in the mobile market. · Increasing sales · Increasing our product line to match the needs of all our clientele. The analysis will look into the size of the market, the completion, customers and the economic environment. Intel manufactures computer devices like processers, motherboard chipsets, flash memory, graphic chips and integrated circuits. The big computer manufacturers like Apple Inc, Lenovo, HP and Dell use Intel’s processors in their computers. This means the company’s core business is the manufacture of processors. The growing mobile market has also seen the company trying to increase its presence in that market. The industry has been growing over the last few years as seen with the growth of the company’s revenue which grew in 2016 from $59.4 billion to $70.8 billion. As at the current year a combined $412.02 billion will be spent on sales of semi conductors. The current semiconductors are on the maturity state. The industry is largely saturated with competitors like AMD also increasing their market share. The company has begun changing its products to meet market demands with the
  • 8. release of the new 10nm chips. The competition is high and sales have started to shrink. Target markets for Intel will include big computer manufacturing companies, consumers and resellers. Big computer companies are the biggest customers as they will use the semi conductors in production of their desktops and notebooks. Customers also form part of the target market as they use the semi conductors to replace worn out in their desktops and notebooks. The company will need authorize resellers from across the globe to sale their products worldwide. Big computer companies are companies dealing with the manufacture of computers and notebooks. These companies have a high customer base for their products and usually sale their products worldwide. They use the semiconductors during the manufacture of their products. These big companies are looking for innovative company that is able to change with the changes in technology and packages that suit their products. The companies have various products for their customers and require customized semiconductors for each product. The company should be able to change based on technological changes in the market. The target market is not a niche as products are not developed specifically to meet certain markets but these are big companies that develop products that suit the whole market. They make sure that their products are acceptable to the whole market. The biggest competitor in the semiconductors industry is Advanced Micro Devices. This company develops computer processors for both business and consumers and is based in Santa Clara USA. The company has reliable suppliers of the raw materials it uses in the manufacture of computer processors. The company is also good at developing new products and keeping at par with new technologies in the market. Some of the weaknesses of the company are; a very low rate of investment in research and technology which makes it unable to compete with some leading industry players. When compared with other companies in the industry their attrition rate is higher in the workforce as they spend a lot in training and developing their
  • 9. workers. Intel’s strategy market is the same as Advanced Micro Devices since both companies have their computer processors in desktops and notebooks. There is an increase in Personal computer sales and notebooks that have AMD’s micro processor. One legal trend that will affect how Intel does business is lawsuits due to data privacy. The hefty fines charged have led to Intel sponsoring a bill in Congress to shield them from such fines. The bill will make sure they are protected if they attest to the US Federal Trade Commission that strong measures have been taken to protect consumer data. References Forbes (Nov 2019).
