2. Clothing
Clothing has always played an integral role in
Rocky’s image, even referring himself as a “Fashion
Killa”. He is widely recognized as a pioneer of the
“Street Goth” which consists of dark, minimalist
clothing cut in modern ways and finished with
premium materials like leather. References to past
styles are common too, most notably late 80s/early
90s hip-hop and grunge. Rocky has also brought a
number of high-end designers to the mainstream
including Rick Owens and Raf Simons. He is also a
regular at all the fashion weeks often seen sitting in
the front row amongst some of fashions elite.
3. Setting
Hailing from Harlem, New York Rocky always has always
had a certain illicit appeal often shooting videos in the
block’s and rooftops of New York city. However as Rocky’s
career has evolved so to have his music videos, now
usually shot in expensive studio sets or foreign cities and
exotic islands. Though Rocky could be said to be a oddity
in the hip hop genre he still conforms to some of the
braggadocios mainstays women, money and drugs. This
open approach to his image makes him highly accessible
to a wide audience, capturing both the hip hop fans and
people who wouldn’t usually listen to it.
4. Web presence
Rocky being the hip hop superstar that he is has had his fair
share of controversies, from brawls to relationships he never fails
to get the media’s attention whether he wants it or not. The
most recent of these incidents is his recent disses of two street
wear labels which Rocky had previously championed. As a highly
regarded trendsetter Rocky’s opinions carry a lot weight and will
most likely spell the end of the two labels. Rocky also has a
twitter account with 765k followers which he uses to promote his
latest projects and tours.
