The founder and chairman of PT Harvest International Indonesia, Harvey Goldstein has over four decades of business experience in the Southeast Asia region. He has facilitated significant foreign investments in countries including the Philippines and Singapore. Harvey Goldstein played a central role in the multi-billion dollar Exxon (now ExxonMobil) and Indonesia national oil company Pertamina agreement to develop one of the world’s largest offshore natural gas deposits. One of the largest publicly traded energy companies, ExxonMobil has undertaken various initiatives to reduce methane emissions in gas and oil operations since this is a significant way of lessening greenhouse gas emissions. One of these efforts is Project Astra, the firm’s new collaboration involving environmental groups, other industry players, and universities to search for better and novel ways to monitor and decrease methane emissions. Project Astra aims to create a cutting-edge sensor network covering large areas, which feeds to a central system that can rapidly inform specific people to repair the leak. The continuously monitoring network will allow operators to better direct assets to a particular area. The success of the project could offer a more economical and effective means of lowering methane emissions.
