1. How will ‘Deus ex Machina’ be suited to our target
audience?
Our film, ‘DeusEx Machina’, will be set in a time that is appealingto
peoplefrom the ages of about 14-25. Thistime will be roughly the
present, possibly a few yearsin the future, butwe aren’t surequite
how the futureelementswould effectthe story, if at all. Being a
thriller meansthat our film will be somewhat appealing to this age
group regardless, however, usinggood spec equipmentthis will
make our film attractive to the media-consumingbehemoths that are
the youthof today.
Also, usingmany typicalconventionsof thriller films our film will be
easily recognizable as one of the genre, being that it keepsup with
many staples of a regular, high-budget thriller production.
As a member of our target audienceage rangeI have a moderate
understandingof whatpeoplemy age like, especially in films, giving
me the ability to tailor our film moretowardsthose that are into
films as well as those that are simply along for the ride. For example,
being friendswith many 16-year-old film enthusiasts has helped us
understand techniquesto use better, like peoplereally enjoy the look
of high saturation chiaroscuro shots. Also our colour gradewill be
dark and gloomier than an action adventureor romancefilm,
because we are tryingto create a darker and gloomier atmosphere In
comparison to these other movies.
