2. Setting
The audience Seth and I are hoping to attract to our
film is made up of older teens, of typically 16-23 year
olds.
The time in which ‘Visions’ is going to be set is some
time around the present, possibly a few years in the
future or past, but we aren’t sure quite how the time
scale would effect the story, if at all. ‘Visions’, being a
thriller, means that our film will be somewhat
appealing to this age group regardless. However,
using good spec equipment and high end editing
techniques this will make our film attractive to the
media-consuming behemoths that are the youth of
today.
3. Conventions
‘Visions’ will feature many common thriller
conventions such as eerie atmospheres,
everyday normal seeming characters with
underlying issues, and of course the editing
style.
Using so many of these thriller conventions
will make our film easily recognizable as
one of the genre, being that it keeps up
with many staples of a regular, high-budget
thriller production.
4. Personal understandings
As a member of our target audience age range I
have a moderate understanding of what people my
age like, especially in films, giving me the ability to
tailor our film more towards those that are into films
as well as those that are simply along for the ride.
For example, being friends with many 16-year-old
film enthusiasts has helped us understand
techniques to use better, like people really enjoy the
look of high saturation chiaroscuro shots. Also our
colour grade will be dark and gloomier than an action
adventure or romance film, because we are trying to
create a darker and gloomier atmosphere In
comparison to these other movies.
5. Psychosis element
‘Visions’ focuses a lot on psychological
themes and as a result we are trying to
avoid using much observable writing in our
film, like road signs or license plates this
will create a more metaphysical element to
‘Visions’, as if it took place in a characters
had with no real indication to an actual
location or setting. This is because we
want to give our audience a feeling of
confusion and disconnect from the
characters, yet only physically, and slightly
emotionally.
