5. RESEARCH EXPERIENCE IN LV PRASAD EYE INSTITUTE
1) Worked as a Research Assistant / Research Associate for “Antibacterial activity
of contact lens study” an Australian (Sydney - CCLRU ( CIBA VISION) funded
research project in L.V. Prasad Eye and Research Institute – Hyderabad.
ABCL STUDY:
Aim: To determine the incidence of serious significant and non significant adverse
events if any, with contra lateral wear of FOCUS NIGHT & DAY (FND)
antibacterial lenses ( test) versus FND lenses (control) when worn on a 30 night
( 30N) EW and disposal schedule.
1. Processing of the sample (Lens and lid swabs)
2. Identification of the grown organism.( Using Mini API )
3. Stocking the organisms.
4. Adhesion study. ( 3 days Experiment)
In this study, we will put the lenses (which are antibacterial coated with silver and
other type of lenses are F&D lenses) in the patients eye, and collect it after every 1week,
1month, 3months & 6months.after these periods lenses will be collected in sterile PBS,
and lenses will be inoculated in chocolate agar plates by using sand witch method, and
the lens solution will be inoculated in 3 different ways like aerobically, anaerobically and
for fungal too. After 48 hours of incubation these plates, aerobic plates will be taken out
and using Mini API will do further processing. system. And anaerobic plates will be
taken out from incubators after 4 days, and finally for fungal plates which are inoculated
in sabouraud’s dextrose agar, reading will be taken after 7 days of incubation.
And very important experiment in this study was the adhesion study. In this
experiment, some of the lenses which are randomized according to the patient diagnosis,
will be collected and infect the lenses with the P.seudomonas aeruginosa.
Staphyolococcus.epeidermidis. andcertain dilutions will be done and reading will be
taken. Iam not going to details of the procedures because the work was confidential.
6. 2) Worked as a Research Assistant for “Clinical efficacy & safety of T 1225 1.4%Eye
drops ( 3day treatment ) versus Tobramycin 0.3% Eye drops ( 7day treatment ) in
the treatment of Purulent Bacterial Conjunctivitis” a France country( THEA
LABORATORIES) funded Research Project in R&D in L.V Prasad Eye and Research
Institute- Hyderabad.
In this project we came to know that bacterial conjunctivitis will be
caused not only by major normal flora like Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, we found
came to know that some, other bacteria like E.coli, Klebsiella etc .which are Gram
negative bacteria also cause bacterial conjunctivitis. As project is confidential am not
going to details of the methodology.
3) Worked as a Research Assistant for “Pilot determination of the antimicrobial
efficacy of 10 foaming hand cleansers using the health care personnel hand wash
procedure.” Standard Test Method Evaluation of the Effectiveness of Health care
personnel consumer hand wash formulations. ASTM method E:174-00. Standard test
methods for evaluation of in activators of Antimicrobial agents. E:1054-02.
Purpose of the Study.
1) The purpose of the study is to determine the antimicrobial effectiveness of three
Antibacterial Foam cleansers for use as Health care Personnel Hand washes. The
indicator microorganism used for hand wash contaminations will be Serratia marcescens
(ATCC # 14756) Eight subjects will testes per test article for a total of twenty –four
subjects. Over the course of eleven consecutive hand contamination. The first followed
by a sample for baseline, and the remaining ten by product applications, with microbial
samples taken after product applications one, three, seven and ten.
2. Determine the effect of surfactant load on the performance of foaming cleanser
prototypes.
3.Accrue additional benchmark data for Antibacterial Foam Cleanser prototype 3.
